Clarence E. Swartz
Born Aug. 19, 1925, in McAlisterville, he was a son of the late George W. and Gladys O. (Long) Swartz. His wife, E. Jane (Gingerich) Swartz, whom he married July 16, 1947, survives.
Also surviving are: daughters, Linda Blough, Harrisburg, Darlene Varner, McAlisterville RR1, Carol Neidig, McAlisterville, and Nancy Diem, Mifflintown; sisters, Mrs. Merrill (Althea) Auker, East Salem, and Mrs. Roy (Beatrice) Shelley, East Salem; and nine grandchildren.
He attended East Salem Grammar School.
He was a lifelong farmer outside McAlisterville. He was school bus contractor for Juniata County School District for the last 30 years, 20 of those as a driver. He owned and operated three Swartz Car Washes in McAlisterville, Newport and Thompsontown.
He drove a truck for Miller Lumber Co., McAlisterville from 1965 to 1969, and a milk tanker for Tom Daubert in Reedsville in the 1970s.
He was a member of Delaware Mennonite Church, Thompsontown RR1, where he had been a trustee for six years.
He enjoyed hunting, camping, traveling and carpentry.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Delaware Mennonite Church, Thompsontown RR1, with Pastor Adam Espenshade, Pastor Terry Sheaffer, and Pastor David Weaver officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be no public viewing.

Donald E. Swartz Sr.
Born Dec. 15, 1938, in Beale Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Wayne 'Ed" and Viola "Polly" (Koons) Swartz. His wife, Beverly R. (Imes) Swartz, whom he married June 16, 1989, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Donald E. Swartz Jr. and Kay P. Wood, both of Mifflin; stepchildren, Steven R. Swartz and Matthew J. Swartz, both of Mifflintown, Michael L. Swartz, Mexico, and Susan R. Swartz, Mifflin; a sister, Mary C. Gingrich, Wilmington, Del.; four grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
He was a 1955 graduate of Juniata Joint High School.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served from 1956-1958.
He was owner/operator of Don's Electric, Walnut. He also worked in building maintenance for the U. S. Postal Service, Harrisburg, retiring in December of 1999 after 16 years of service.
He was a confirmed member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Nook.
He was a member of the Brooklyn Hose Co., Lewistown, the Millerstown Moose, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Air Force Sargeant's Association.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the New Life Assembly of God Church, intersection of Industrial Park Road and Cedar Spring Road, with the Rev. Harold Imes and the Rev. Jack Twombly officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Nook, where military honors will be provided by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today at the Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown and from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Tuesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HOSPICE: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044 or to the American Cancer Society, Mifflin-Juniata Unit, 26 N. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
G. Dale Swartz
Born March 10, 1907, in Doyles Mills, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Rufus and Catherine (Aurand) Swartz. His wife, Pauline E. (Long) Swartz of the Locust Grove Retirement Village, HC-67, Mifflin, whom he married in 1950, survives.
Also surviving are: a sister, Hilda McGlunnigan, Middletown; a half-sister, Betty Shank, Harrisburg; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Rufus G. "Punch" Swartz, Wilbur A. Swartz, Harold Swartz, and Edwin Swartz.
He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II.
In earlier life, he was employed by the Mann Edge Tool Co., Lewistown and then for D.E. Smith Inc., Mifflintown. He retired from PennDOT, Mifflintown as a foreman.
He was a member of the St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Nook, where he was a Sunday school teacher for 24 years. He was also a member of the Beale Township Fire Co. and the American Legion Post 298, Mifflintown.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Marton Roberson and the Rev. Claude R. Baublitz officiating. Interment will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Nook, where full military honors will be conducted by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
Sallie K. Swartz
Born Oct. 18, 1909, in Richfield, she was a daughter of the late Amos and Sarah (Heitzman) Knouse. Her husband, Ellis "Pete" Swartz, whom she married April 17, 1927, died March 14, 1965.
Surviving are: two daughters, Artie Starr, Harrisburg, and Beulah Seiler, Richfield; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three children, Amos Swartz, Pearl Leonard, and Emily Maneval; brothers and sisters, Frank Knouse, Earl Knouse, Susan Rhodes, Emma Shrawder, May Minium, Violet Sheaffer, Learie Arnold, Minerva Kerstetter, Mertie Simko; and a great-grandson, Dale Ellis Leonard.
She attended Quaker Run Elementary School, Richfield.
She and her family owned and operated Swartz's Restaurant in Richfield from 1947-1955. In 1973, she retired after 12 years as a seamstress for Leonard Garment Co., Mount Pleasant Mills.
She was a member of Richfield United Methodist Church, where she was an active choir member, Sunday school teacher and youth fellowship leader. She was a past member of Richfield Women's Club and Richfield Senior Citizens.
She enjoyed writing poems and published two books of her writings.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Richfield United Methodist Church, with Pastor Dennis S. Seiler and the Rev. Dr. Almon D. Baird officiating. Interment will be in Richfield Union Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the church.

Ida M. Swartzlander
Born Sept. 20, 1915, in Orrville, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late John and Matilda (Jordan) Ferry. Her husband, Vares "Joe" Swartzlander, whom she married Aug. 9, 1931, died Oct. 20,1985.
Surviving are: children, Eleanor Kreitz and Joanne V. Vankirk, both of Middleburg, Winafred J. Ettinger, Beavertown RR1, and Debbie Currier, Arizona, Vares Eugene Swartzlander, Mifflinburg, and Gregory "Joey" Ulrich, York Haven; sisters, Lavina Yeager, Whitehall, and Betty Miller, New Berlin; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Steven Ulrich; a sister, Shirley Bingaman; and a brother, Earnest Ferry.
She worked at Westinghouse, Sunbury, as a welder for 10 years, and at Walnut Farms.
She enjoyed outdoor activities, hunting, fishing and crocheting.
She was Lutheran by faith.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Beavertown chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes Inc., with the Rev. Shiffer officiating. Interment will be in Troxelville Union Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where family will be present to receive friends from 7-9 p.m.
Stinson R. 'Bucky' Swyers
Born Dec. 18, 1916, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Reynolds and Katherine (Trostle) Swyers. His wife, Genevieve (Moran) Swyers of Winston-Salem, N.C., survives.
Also surviving are: children, John Swyers, Mansfield, Maine, Richard Swyers, Ottsville, Pa., Michael Swyers, Winston-Salem, N.C., Genevieve Swyers, Falls Church, Va., and Mary Grace Dorsey, Arlington, Va.; a sister, Louise Parson, McAlisterville; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.
He retired from the Standard Steel in Burnham.
He was a member of Lewistown Elks Lodge 663, A.O.P.A. and E.A.A. Quiet Birdman Association.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Father John Schmalhofer officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Edith L. VanBoskirk
Born Dec. 3, 1911, in Zanesville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Eunice (Swargart) Harvey. Her husband, Paul VanBoskirk, preceded her in death in 1964.
Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. George (Barbara) Cavanaugh, Caldwell Hill Road, Lewistown; half-brother, Dale Harvey, McVeytown; and one grandson.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
She worked as a social worker for child welfare in Mifflin County.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the Alfarata Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Wilbur H. Van Ormer
Born July 2, 1919, in Wayne Township, Mifflin County, he was the son of the late Nordon L. and Sarah E. (Miller) Van Ormer.
He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Edward (Magnus) Dame, Lancaster, Calif. and Paulena E. Parks, Mifflintown.
He was retired from Mexico Forge, Milroy.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana.
