Jesse S. Wertz
Born Sept. 6, 1921, in McVeytown, he was a son of the late William B. and Esther A. (Harshbarger) Wertz. His wife, Margaret "Peg" (Ammerman) Wertz, died Nov. 17, 1998.
Surviving are: a son, Kenneth Wertz, Georgia; brothers and sisters, Cora Elder, Brookline Manor, Mifflintown, Ruth E. Sunderland, Newton Hamilton, Roy K. Wertz and Lloyd L. Wertz, both of McVeytown RR, Mrs. Clarence (Betty R.) Cramer, Three Springs RR and Harold I. Wertz, McVeytown.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Russell B. Wertz, H. Blair Wertz and Herman P. Wertz.
He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre.
Early in life, he was employed at the Harbison Walker Refractories, Mount Union. He was a self-employed farmer and he retired from the Oliver Township Highway Department.
Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Jeannette Rapp officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.
Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today and from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Leonard L. Wertz
Born May 15, 1957, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Violet (Hardy) Wertz of McVeytown RR1. His wife, Cathy L. (Bair) Wertz, whom he married April 19, 1975, in Huntingdon, survives.
Also surviving are: sons, Corey A. Wertz, Mount Union and Andrew J. Wertz, Zullinger; brothers and sisters: Stanley Wertz and Mrs. John (Connie) Stimely, both of McVeytown RR1, Mrs. Tom (Denise) Leonard, Yeagertown, Jeff Wertz, Huntingdon and Tom Wertz, Newton Hamilton; and one grandson.
He graduated from Mount Union Area High School in 1975.
He was a carpenter and member of Local Union 2274, Pgh and was currently employed by Dick Corporation in Lewistown.
He was associated with the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Huntingdon.
He was a member of the Bonney-Forge Fastpitch Softball Team, was a PIAA umpire and referee for baseball, softball and wrestling.
He enjoyed playing tennis and golf.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. George "Buddy" Baird officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Union Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
Amy Reese Wessling
Born Feb. 7, 1907, in Blossburg, she was a daughter of the late John J. and Ida (Eddings) Reese. Her husband, Rev. George Alfred Wessling, died Feb. 28, 1964.
She is survived by a son, R. Melvin Davis, 237 Redwood Drive, Bellefonte; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John J. Reese.
She received a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Mansfield State Teachers College and a Master's degree from Pennsylvania State University.
She was an elementary school teacher for Mifflin County School District for 29 years, retiring in 1972.
She was a member of White Memorial Congregational Church of Siglerville.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15 at White Memorial Congregational Church of Siglerville, with the Rev. James A. Yoder officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville.
There will be no public viewing.

Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
William H. 'Bill' Weyandt
Born Feb. 27, 1929, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Charles and Edna Weyandt. His wife, Helen Gae (Van Horne) Weyandt, whom he married October 20, 1950, survives.
Also surviving are: a daughter, Pamela Skinner, Olympia, Wash.; two sisters, Dorothy Crimmel, Lewistown, and Lorraine Casner, Mifflintown; one granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
He served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954.
He retired two years ago and relocated to the state of Washington. Prior to that he lived and worked in Lewistown for over 45 years. He was most recently a real estate agent for Long-Turbett, Lewistown. He spent most of his career as owner of W.H. Weyandt, Co. Custom Framing and Art Gallery. He also previously owned Weyandt Engraving Company, and spent several years as Chief Medical Technician at Blacks Hospital and Lewistown Hospital.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon; and was a 32nd degree Mason of Harrisburg. He was also a member of the Professional Picture Framers' Association.
He enjoyed watercolor and oil painting, photography and golf.
A memorial service was held Feb. 9, 2000, at the Lacey Community Church in Olympia, Wash.
A local memorial service (to be announced) will be held at the First Church of the Brethren, Lewistown, in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of the Brethren, Lewistown, PA 17044.
The Forest Funeral Home, Olympia, Wash, was in charge of arrangements.
Betty Ann Wheeler
Born June 5, 1937, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of Sara Jane (Hill) Hambright, 106 School St., Burnham and the late Charles V. Hambright. Her husband, Harry V. Wheeler, whom she married April 27, 1957, survives.
Also surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Luann) Bumgardner, Mac Lane, Lewistown; brothers, Richard Hambright, Yeagertown and Robert Hambright, Burnham; and two grandsons.
She was a financial secretary for Budget Plan and Security Pacific for 30 years, retiring in 1986.
She was a member of the Walnut Street United Methodist Church, Burnham.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Larry Lutz officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.
There will be no public viewing.
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Howard 'Plug' Wheeler
Born in Kentucky, he was a son of the late Thaddeus and Anna (Smith) Wheeler. He is survived by his wife, Esther (Harpster) Wheeler.
Also surviving are: a daughter, Cindy Way of State College; two sisters, Dona Harmon of Florida and Dodie Ogburn of Kentucky; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter,Lou Ann Reddel.
An Army veteran of World War II and Korea, he received three Bronze Stars while serving in Korea.
He had 35 years combined government service and retired from Mechanicsburg NSPCC.
He was a member of Mechanicsburg Church of the Brethren, Non-Commissioned Officers Association, DAV West Shore Chapter and American Legion Post 109, Mechanicsburg.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at Mechanicsburg Church of the Brethren.
Burial will be at 9:30 a.m., with full military honors at Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Township.
Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until time of service today at the church.

Robert E. Wheeler
Born May 23, 1927, in Lewistown, he was a son of Ruth V. (Moore) Wheeler of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, and the late Howard E. Wheeler. His wife, Ida C. (Shilling) Wheeler, whom he married June 15, 1991, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Mrs. James (Nancy) Weese and Mrs. Richard (Susan) Lund, both of Baltimore, Md., Barbara H. Wheeler, Lewistown, and Mrs. James (Tina) Boylard, Essex, Md.; step-children, Mrs. John (Mary) Spagnoletti, Burnham, and Robert E. Mellinger, Richard A. Mellinger, John H. Mellinger, Judy Romig, Robert Bender, Donald Bender and David Bender, all of Lewistown; sister and brother, Doris Seitz, Cumberland County, and Henry E. Wheeler, Lewistown; five grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He retired from Bethlehem Steel in 1987 and had been employed by the Mifflin County Prison for six years.
He was a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, president and chaplain of Lewistown Fire Police, and a member of United Fire and Rescue Co.; City, Hook and Ladder Fire Co.; Henderson Fire Co.; and East Derry Fire Co.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Linda K. Hendrian officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, where military honors will be given by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mary A. White
Born Oct. 15, 1902, in Oliver Township, Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late North and Clara Stewart.
She is survived by her husband, George N. White, whom she married March 13, 1926.
Also surviving are: children, Arden G. White, Middle Road, Lewistown, Craig S. White, Reading; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters, a grandson and a daughter, Joyce Ann White Irvine in Feb. 1999.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lewistown.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Ronald Hoffman officiating.
There will be no public viewing. Family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Mattawana Cemetery, McVeytown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

MOUNT UNION - Leonard L. Wertz, 42, of 26 W. Garber St., Mount Union, died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday Oct. 20, 1999, in Gregg Township, Centre County.
LEWISTOWN - Amy Reese Wessling, 92, a resident of Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, Lewistown, formerly of Woodland Circle, Reedsville, died at 11:03 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at the home.
OLYMPIA, Wash. - William H. "Bill" Weyandt, 70, a former long time resident of Lewistown, died of natural causes Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at Panorama City Convalescent Center in Olympia, Washington.
BURNHAM - Betty Ann Wheeler, 61, of 200 N. Pine St., Burnham, died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 16, 1999, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
HARRISBURG - Howard "Plug" Wheeler,81, of Lower Allen Township died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at the Hospice of Central Pennsylvania Residence, Linglestown Road.
LEWISTOWN - Robert E. Wheeler, 72, of 16 Locust St., Lewistown, died at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn.
