Alphie Allen Zook
HARRISONBURG, Va. - Alphie Allen Zook, 74, of 1236 Upland Drive, Harrisonburg, Va., died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at Oak Lea Nursing Home in Harrisonburg, Va., where he had been a patient since July 1998.

Born May 8, 1925, in Allensville, he was a son the late Uriel S. and Catherine Mae (Durr) Zook. His wife, Mary (Brubaker) Zook, survives.

Also surviving are: sons, Leander Allen Zook, Ethan Dale Zook and Darrell Eugene Zook, all of Harrisonburg, Va.; brothers, Lester I. Zook, Belleville, David M. Zook, Salem, Ohio, Floyd I. Zook, Strasburg, and Merle K. Zook, Denver, Colo.; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Elvin, Ellrose, Wilbur, Melvin and Leroy Zook; and two sisters, Ethel Peachey and Mabel Zook.

He was a 1943 graduate of Eastern Mennonite High School and a 1953 graduate of Eastern Mennonite College, where he received a bachelor's degree in social studies, history and secondary education. He received a master's degree in secondary education from Penn State University in 1961, and a second master's degree in school psychology from James Madison University in 1971. He earned a third master's degree in special education at James Madison University in 1981.

He was a teacher, principal, and counselor of public and church schools for twelve years in Pennsylvania, serving as principal of Belleville Mennonite School from 1948 to 1956, and a teacher and counselor at Lewistown Junior High School from 1957 to 1961.

He served as advisor to Eastern Mennonite College's Student Virginia Education Association, and was awarded a 20-year outstanding service award in Sept. 1992. He served as a representative of the Board of Pleasant View Home and Regional Center for the Developmentally Disabled, Broadway, Va. He was a founder of the Saturday Adoption Program at Eastern Mennonite College.

He served as consultant for Faith Mission Home, Charlottesville, Va., and a member of Park View Mennonite Church, Harrisonburg, Va., and the Virginia State Special Education Advisory Committee for the Harrisonburg city schools.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Park View Mennonite Church, with Pastor Phil Kniss, Pastor Shirlee K. Yoder and Paster Shirley Y. Brubaker officiating. Interment will be private and earlier in the day at Weavers Mennonite Church Cemetery near Harrisonburg, Va.

Family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Park View Mennonite Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to: The Young People's Christian Association or to The Alphie Zook Scholarship Fund for the Shenandoah Valley Chorus, both in care of Eastern Mennonite University, Harrisonburg, VA 22802.

Barbara Z. Zook
BELLEVILLE -Barbara Z. Zook, 91, of 60 Zooks Orchard Lane, Belleville, died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at the Lewistown Hospital.

Born June 1, 1907, in Reedsville, she was a daughter of the late Samuel H. and Lydia M. (Zook) Byler. Her husband, Joseph A. Zook, died April 29, 1984.

Surviving are: children, Joseph C. Zook, Newmanstown, Johnathan R. Zook, Mrs. David H. (Katie) Detweiler, Mrs. John K. (Lydia) Byler, and Ben Y. Zook, all of Belleville; 26 grandchildren; 138 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter and three grandchildren.

She was the last of her immediate family.

She was a member of the Old Order Amish.

Services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Abner N. Zook residence in Belleville, with minister John F. Swarey officiating. Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Belleville.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Abner N. Zook residence, Belleville.

Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, is in charge of arrangements.

Benjamin J. Zook
BELLEVILLE - Benjamin J. Zook, 76, a resident of Valley View Haven, Belleville, formerly of 260 Hartzler Drive, Belleville, died at 11:47 a.m. Sunday, April 25, 1999, at the Lewistown Hospital.

Born May 18, 1922, in Belleville, he was the son of the late Israel B. and Katie Mae (Yoder) Zook. His wife, Martha A. (Byler) Zook, whom he married Aug. 30, 1946, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Thomas J. Zook, Raymond J. Zook, and Benjamin L. Zook, all of Belleville RR, Paul D. Zook, 1430 N. Penryn Road, Manheim, and Mrs. Gary (Lois) Peachey, Port Royal RR2; brothers and sisters, Jonas Y. Zook, Valley View Haven, Belleville, Annie L. Peachey and Mrs. Aaron Z. (Barbara) Peachey, both of Belleville RR; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Daniel H. Zook, Israel B. Zook, Yost M. Zook, and Jacob Zook; and three grandchildren.

He was a farmer, retiring in 1971 and he worked as a carpenter for Allensville Planing Mill, retiring on disability in 1982.

He was a member of Locust Grove Mennonite Church, and the Men's Sunday school class of the church. He served on the first Board of Valley View Haven and on the Belleville Mennonite School Board for nine years. He was also a former member of the Big Valley Men's Chorus and had been active with the Belleville Mennonite Disaster Service.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Locust Grove Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Erie Renno, the Rev. Mayard Beitzel, and the Rev. Galen Sharp officiating. Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Belleville.

Friends may call from 6:30-9 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

David M. Zook
SALEM, Ohio - David M. Zook, 83, 451 Valley Road, Salem, Ohio, formerly of Columbiana, Ohio, died at 1:48 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999, at Salem Community Hospital, Salem, Ohio.

Born Dec. 23, 1915, in Allensville, he was a son of the late Uriel S. and Kathryn M. (Durr) Zook. His first wife, Edna F. (Weaver) Zook, whom he married Sept. 22, 1940, died May 27, 1971. His second wife, Emma M. (Knopp) Zook, whom he married April 9, 1972, died June 30, 1977.

Surviving are: children, Rhoda Zook, Columbiana, Ohio, Mrs. Melvyn (Mary Louise) Uchida, Aurora, Colo., Marlin Zook, Dalton, Ohio, and Herbert Zook, Belleville; brothers, Lester Zook, Belleville, Floyd Zook, Strausburg, and Merle Zook, Denver, Colo.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.

He had worked on several area farms in Ohio and worked for Bucheit Construction of Yo. & Enterrise Co., Columbiana, Ohio. He worked also as a custodian for 27 years for the South Range School System, retiring in 1981. After retirement, he worked part-time as a custodian at the Midway Church, Witmer Implement, and the Columbiana Library.

He was a member of the Midway Mennonite Church, where he was in the choir.

In 1982-1984, he served with the United World Missions Builders Groups and went for a two week mission trip to Venezuela to construct Bible Institute buildings. He also served one summer with the Kentucky Mennonite Disaster Services.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Midway Mennonite Church, Columbiana, Ohio, with the Rev. Larry Rohrer officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home, Columbiana, Ohio and from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services Wednesday at the church.

Huldah C. Zook
BELLEVILLE - Huldah C. Zook, 89, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, formerly of Valley View Village, died at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at Valley View Haven.

Born Aug. 26, 1910, in Airydale, she was a daughter of the late James L. and Susie (Peight) Mateer. Her husband, Raymond C. Zook, whom she married Aug. 1, 1935, died Nov. 26, 1991.

Surviving are: a son, Robert R. Zook, 3175 Adirondock Ave., Columbus, Ohio; sister, Mrs. James (Hazel) Allison, 372 W. Back Mountain Road, Belleville; two granddaughters; and three great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Blaine Mateer, Rush Mateer, Charles Mateer, Raymond Mateer, Esther Brown, and Ruth Brenneman.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Allensville Presbyterian Church, member and Past Worthy Matron of Chrysanthemum Chapter 114 Order of the Eastern Star, Gaylord, Mich.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Allensville Presbyterian Church, Allensville, with the Rev. Erie Renno officiating. Interment will be in Allensville Presbyterian Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m until the time of services Thursday at the church.

Jonas Y. Zook
BELLEVILLE - Jonas Y. Zook, 91, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, formerly of Belleville RR, died at 1:07 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at the nursing home.

Born Sept. 29, 1908, in Belleville, he was the son of the late Israel B. and Katie P. (Yoder) Zook. His wife, Mary E. (Spicher) Zook, preceded him in death on May 4, 1977.

Surviving are: children, Mrs. Marlin W. (Anna) Yoder, Belleville, Mrs. Monroe (Katie) Coblentz and Mrs. Emanuel (Sadie) Kennell, both of Sarasota, Fla., and Wilmer Lee Zook, Mifflintown; sisters, Mrs. Rufus A. (Annie) Peachey and Mrs. Aaron Z. (Barbara) Peachey, both of Belleville RR; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Jacob Zook, Israel B. Zook, Daniel H. Zook, Yost Zook and Benjamin J. Zook, and one granddaughter.

A farmer, he retired in 1964. He also worked for D.K. Hostetler and A. J. Peachey.

He was a member of the Allensville Mennonite Church and the Adult Sunday school class.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Allensville Mennonite Church, with ministers Philip Barr and Paul Bender officiating. Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Belleville.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville.
