LEWISTOWN - Solomon Y. Hostetler, 69, of 10 Freightliner Lane, Lewistown, died at 12:58 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at his residence. Born Jan. 17, 1931, in Mifflin County, he was the son of the late Ezra B. and Elizabeth (Spicher) Hostetler. His wife, Nancy H. (Hostetler) Hostetler, whom he married Nov. 27, 1952, survives. Also surviving are: children, John L. Hostetler, 10 Freightliner Lane, Lewistown, William L. Hostetler and Mrs. John D. (Barbara J.) McKnight, both of McClure, Mrs. Lloyd F. (Bonnie L.) Cavanaugh, and Mrs. Todd A. (Brenda J.) Jones, both of Lewistown, and Nancy E. Boyer, Duncannon; sisters, Elizabeth Hostetler, Katie Hostetler, and Barbara Hostetler, all of Reedsville; six grandchildren and two step-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. He served in the United States Army and the Pennsylvania National Guard. He was a farmer and truck driver for D & T Trucking, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Paintersville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and a life member of the Blue Juniata Beagle Club, having served two terms as president and two terms as treasurer. He also served as auditor and director for the Atlantic Association of Beagle Clubs. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Paintersville CMA Church, with the Rev. George Mark officiating. Interment will be in the Paintersville CMA Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham. BEAVER SPRINGS - Stephen J. Hostetler, 35, of Beaver Springs RD1 Box 140-A, died at 5 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2000, of natural causes at his residence. Born Sept. 22, 1964 in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Mary S. (Yoder) Hostetler, and of John D. Hostetler, who survives, residing at Beaver Springs, RD1 Box 140-A. Also surviving are: sisters, Mrs. Steven (Lena) Yoder, Mrs. Isaac (Nancy) Yoder and Mrs. Emanuel (Elizabeth) Yoder, all of Beaver Springs, Mrs. Eli (Barbara) Yoder and Mrs. David C. (Ruth) Yoder, both of McClure, and Mary Hostetler, at home. He was preceded in death by a sister, Frannie Hostetler, in 1992, and by a stillborn brother, Michael Hostetler, in 1976. He was a member of Old Order Amish. A service will be held at 9 p.m. Sunday at the John D. Hostetler residence, Beaver Springs RD1 Box 140-A. Interment will be in Samuel's Amish Cemetery. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the John D. Hostetler residence. Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 108 First Ave., Burnham, is in charge of arrangements.
MILROY - Frank O. Houser, 75, of Siglerville Pike Road, Milroy, died at 10:44 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2000, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born Feb. 26, 1925, in Reedsville, he was the son of the late Frank R. and Anna Catherine (Mull) Houser. His wife, Elizabeth Jane "Betty" (Baker) Houser, whom he married March 14, 1946, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. John (Melva) Worley, Siglerville Pike Road, Milroy, Evelyn O'Malley Houser, Burnham, and Timothy T. Houser, Milroy; sisters and brother, Mrs. Raymond (Evelyn) Wilde, Belleville, Mrs. David (Mary) Heimbaugh, Tennessee, Mrs. Harry (Jane) Taylor, Reedsville, and John Houser, Spring Mills; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild. He was a graduate of Reedsville High School. He was a farmer all of his life, and he drove school bus. He was a member of White Memorial Congregational Church, Siglerville; the McVeytown Masonic Lodge F&AM No. 376; the Valley Harrisburg Jaffa Shrine; the Middleburg Moose, and was an honorary member of the Siglerville Men's Club. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. James A. Yoder officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where masonic services will be held at 8:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: Big Valley FFA, 700 Pitt St., c/o J. M. MCVEYTOWN - David L. Huffman, 42, of Little Kansas Road, McVeytown, died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born May 5, 1958, in Derry Township, he was a son of the late Harry I. and Larue (Kratzer) Huffman. Surviving are: five sisters, Mary Frances Huffman, Lewistown, Pearl Ross, Lewistown, Mrs. Dennis (Joan) Mowry, Strodes Mills, Mrs. Melvin (Sharon) Varner, McVeytown, and Wanda Kerr, Elliottsburg; four nephews, three nieces and two great-nieces. He was a member of the chapel of the Selinsgrove Center. He enjoyed watching football and horse racing. His funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, wih the Rev. Donald E. Peters Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service Thursday at the funeral home.
HARRISBURG - Elmer E. Hummel, 81, of Lower Paxton Township, Harrisburg, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg. Born June 13, 1919, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late John A. and Mary (Gilbert) Hummel. His wife, Geraldine D. (Sebolt) Hummel, survives. Also surviving are: daughters, Janice Batula, Merrimack, NH and Karen Carpenter, Harrisburg; brothers, Paul Hummel, Swedesboro, NJ and Harold Hummel, Lewistown; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Sowers on Dec. 17, 1995. He was a graduate of Lewistown High School, a 1968 graduate of Penn State University and did his post graduate work at Elizabethtown College. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired plant manager for AMP Inc. He was a member of Linglestown Life United Methodist Church, the Perserverance Lodge 21, Harrisburg and the Harrisburg Consistory. He was an avid woodworker and carver. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Linglestown Life United Methodist Church, 1430 N. Mountain Road, Harrisburg, with the Rev. Robert George officiating. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Linglestown Life United Methodist Church, 1430 N. Mountain Road, Harrisburg, PA 17112 or to the American Diabetes Association, 2040 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110. HAIKU, HAWAII - Patricia Ann Hummel, 53, of Haiku, Hawaii, formerly of Lewistown, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at the Maui Memorial Center, Wailuku, Hawaii. Born July 17, 1948, in Derry, she was the daughter of the late Paul S. Hummel and Gladys (Kearns) Hummel Dressler. Surviving are: two aunts, Dorothy Stenchever, Brooksville, Fla. and Mary Kearns Mandry, Lee's Summit, Mo.; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother, Neil Edwin Hummel. She graduated from Kishacoquillas High School, Lewistown and Lancaster Bible College, Lancaster. She moved to Maui in 1985 where she taught kindergarten and third grade for the Doris Todd Memorial Christian School in Paia, Hawaii. She was a member of the Paipala Church in Paia, Hawaii. Her mother, Gladys (Kearns) Hummel, preceded her in death by three weeks. They were cremated and a memorial service for both was held at the Paipala Church in Hawaii. There will also be a memorial service at their home church in Mount Joy on Saturday October 7. Inurnment will be at the Maitland Church of the Brethren, Lewistown, at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Doris Todd Memorial Christian School, Paia, HI. The Ballard Family Mortuary in Maui is in charge of arrangements.
LEWISTOWN - Helen F. Hunter, 76, of 982 Parcheytown Road, Lewistown, died at 3:10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Sept. 2, 1924, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Edgar S. and Laura (Shoop) Osborne. Her husband, Boyd W. Hunter, died in 1985. Surviving are: children, William J. Hunter, at home and Anne F. Hunter, 7A Gloucester St., Harrisburg; brothers and sister, Edgar W. Osborne and Melvin B. Osborne, both of Lewistown and Mrs. Charles (Madeline) Kramer, McKeesport. She was a personal caregiver and Methodist by faith. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. Thomas B. Morningstar officiating. Interment will be private. There will be no public viewing, but family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Mifflin-Juniata American Cancer Society, 26 N. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
BETHLEHEM - Charles H. Hutt, 94, of 2303 Kemmerer St., Bethlehem, died at 4:12 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2000, at St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem. Born July 22, 1906, in Linfield, Montgomery County, he was the son of the late Lewis and Hanna (Meyers) Hutt. His wife, Helen L. (Treaster) Hutt, died Dec. 30, 1990. He is survived by a son, Carl Keith Hutt, Hecktown; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Rodney T. Hutt, on Dec. 15, 1999, and three sisters. He retired as a purchasing agent with Bethlehem Steel Corp. Earlier in life, he worked at Clearwater Lumber Co., Lewiston, Idaho and in the 1930s, he worked in central Pennsylvania with the Civil Conservation Corps. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with the Rev. Kenneth Longfield officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.
