MILROY - Carl D. Kitting, 68, of Milroy, died at 1:50 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin. Born Aug. 30, 1932, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late David Kitting and the late Goldie (Traxler) Markley. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Joseph Markley. Surviving are: a daughter, Karen Bodin, Memphis, TN; two sons, Carl A. Kitting, Mifflintown and Stacy A. Kitting, McAlisterville; two step-daughters, Norene Baughman, Mifflintown RR1 and Katherine Leach, Mifflin; two brothers, Sam Markley, Lewistown and Joe Markley, McVeytown; two sisters, Mrs. Ken (Nina) Shilling and Mrs. Larry (Linda) Harpster, both of Lewistown; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Debra Baker. A retired machinist from Standard Steel, he was also a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1952 to 1956. He was a member of the Lewistown Moose, life member of the Lewistown VFW and Lewistown American Legion, and a social member of City Hook and Ladder Company, Fame Fire Company, Brooklyn Hose Company and Yeagertown Volunteer Fire Company. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Douglas Kelley officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Mifflintown, where military honors will be provided by the Juniata County Veterans Council. Friends will be received 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diebetes Association, 2040 Linglestown Road, Suite 106, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
LEWISTOWN - Carl J. Klein, 82, of 304 Terrace Boulevard, Lewistown, died at 2:41 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn. He was born Oct. 8, 1917, in Sharon. His wife, Della B. (Linn) Klein, whom he married June 15, 1948, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Barry (Linda) Shade, Sofia, Bulgaria and Carl J. Klein Jr., Lewistown; stepchildren, Mrs. Herbert (Mona) Bailey, Columbus, Ohio, Donna Rizor, Lima, Ohio, and Ronald Martin, Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Ann Miller, New York; and one grandson. He was a seaman in the Merchant Marines for 12 years, retiring in 1955. He was a member of the Owls Club, the Brooklyn Hose Co., the City, Hook and Ladder Fire Co. and the Yeagertown Fire Co. He is an anatomical gift to the Humanity Gifts Registry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, 163 Summit Drive, Lewistown, PA 17044 or to the Lewistown Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 50 Hudson Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044. MCCLURE - Frances A. Kline, 84, of McClure RR2, died at 8:50 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at Penn Lutheran Village, Selinsgrove, where she has been a resident since 1994. Born Feb. 16, 1916, in State College, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Kerstetter) Hecker. Her husband, Clifford D. Kline, whom she married April 11, 1936, died April 2, 1993. She is survived by: a daughter, Audrey L. Shur, St. Clair; two sons, Edward D. Kline Sr., Middleburg and Alvin L. Kline, St. Clair; two sisters, Ruth Hecker, Lancaster and Margaret of Temple, Fla.; two brothers, Lew Hecker, Lancaster and Malhon Hecker, Lock Haven; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Kline in 1985; two sisters, Becky and Kathryn; and two brothers, Raymond and Bud Hecker. She farmed with her husband most of her married life. She was a member of Mt. Bethel United Church of Christ, McClure and enjoyed collecting dolls. Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Beavertown chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, with the Rev. Donald Wise officiating. Interment will be in the McClure Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Memorial fund of Mt. Bethel UCC Church, McClure, PA 17841.
LEWISTOWN - James N. Kline, 73, of 17 Sunset Road, Lewistown, died at 1:35 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at his residence. Born March 25, 1927, in Burnham, he was a son of the late Norris "Dad" and Claudia (Gates) Kline. His wife, Esther (Taylor) Kline, whom he married July 6, 1948, survives. Also surviving are: three sons, James N. Kline Jr, Blairsville, Ga., Jeffrey T. Kline, Dublin, and Joseph E. Kline, Levittown; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Kathryn Snook. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the North Atlantic Theatre. Early in life, he was a structural ironworker for Local 401, Philadelphia, for 25 years and was last employed as Director of License and Inspection, Bristol Township, Bucks County, for 12 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Lewistown. He was an elected Bristol Township Commissioner from 1960-1972 and served on the Bucks County Redevelopment Authority for eight years. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 21 S. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Derald Stump officiating. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions my be made to: St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 21 S. Main St., Lewistown, PA 17044. Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
MCVEYTOWN - Beulah Appleby Walter Klinger, 85, of 12 S. Market St., McVeytown, died at 7:13 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at Nittany Valley Rehabilitation Center, Pleasant Gap. Born April 28, 1915, in Shirleysburg, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Olive B. (Traxler) Appleby. Her first husband, Roy Walter, died in 1943. Her second husband, Arlanda N. Klinger, died Aug. 10, 1995. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Glenn (Dorothy) Pollock and Danny N. Klinger, both of McVeytown, Roy A. Walter, Huntingdon, Robert E. Walter, Mapleton RR, Charles E. Walter, Saltillo, and Frederick J. Walter, Beavertown; a brother, Jack W. Appleby, Lewistown; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Early in life, she worked at the American Viscose Corporation for 35 years, and then for 10 years in the drapery department at Marlette Mobile Homes, Lewistown. She was a Protestant by faith. She was a member of the McVeytown Fireman's Auxiliary. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. There will be no public viewing; however, family will receive friends from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
BEAVER SPRINGS - Blanche E. Klinger, 76, of Beaver Springs RR1, died at 11:05 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born Feb. 20, 1924, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Everett W. and Jennie E. (Stong) Eddy. Her husband, Byron L. Klinger, whom she married June 10, 1944, survives. Also surviving are: daughters, Mrs. David (Karen) Lauver, Beaver Springs and Mrs. Elwood (Melanie) Russell, Milton; a brother, John Gerald Eddy, Lewistown; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, Troxelville. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Donald Nice officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Messiah Lutheran Church, PO Box 20, Troxelville, PA 17882.
GRANVILLE - Cyril S. "Stan" Klinger, 95, a resident of the Malta Home, Granville, formerly of McClure, died at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at the home. Born April 28, 1905, in Longfellow, he was the son of the late Samuel and Jennie (Swanger) Klinger. His first wife, Eva (Lloyd) Klinger, preceded him in death in 1967 and his second wife, Pauline (Hetrick) Klinger, preceded him in death in 1975. Surviving are: children, Delores M. McClellan, Montoursville and Lloyd R. Klinger, Lewistown; stepchildren, Lewis Hetrick, Beavertown and Michael Hetrick, Beaver Springs; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. He was the superintendent for the Pennsylvania Department of Highways, retiring in 1968 with 26 years of service. He was a member of the Beaver Lutheran Church, Beaver Springs; the Middleburg Masonic Lodge 619 Free and Accepted Masons for over 50 years; the Williamsport Consistory; the Harrisburg Shrine; the Lewistown Chapter and Commandry; the McClure Lions Club; the Tall Cedars of Lebanon; the McClure Chamber of Commerce; the West End Sportsmen's Club of Snyder County; the Union County Sportsmen's Club; and the McClure Realty/Bean Soup Committee. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the Beaver Springs Cemetery, Beaver Springs. SELINSGROVE Mary Pauline Klinger, 87, a resident of Penn Lutheran Village, Selinsgrove, formerly of Beaver Springs RR1, died at 1 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2000, at the village. Born Dec. 7, 1912, in Carbon County, she was the daughter of the late William D. and Carrie (Haldeman) Sitler. Her husband, Merle C. Klinger, whom she married in 1959, survives. Also surviving are: stepchildren, Chandis L. Klinger, Middleburg RR4, Nina B. Klinger, Wilmington, Del., and Wanda M. Cundy, Woodbridge, Va.; and four step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. She attended Temple University in Philadelphia and Mansfield University in Mansfield, where she studied music. She was a homemaker. She was Lutheran by faith. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Calvin F. Morgan officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call from noon until the time of the services Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
