MCVEYTOWN - Donald M. "Sarge" Knouse, 64, of US Highway 522 South, McVeytown, died at 4:50 p.m. Sunday Dec. 24, 2000, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born March 13, 1936 in Snyder County, he was a son of the late Earl and Mary Kathryn (Smith) Knouse. His wife, Evelyn M. (Lockett) Knouse, whom he married Aug. 20, 1956, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Donald (Mary) Rhodes, Atkinson Mills, Donald E. Knouse, Wagner, Ronald L. Knouse, York Haven and Mrs. Andrew (Ellen) Blackburn, Pearland, Texas; brothers and sisters, June Wilburn, Oklahoma, Carl D. Knouse, Mrs. David (Faye) Hovestine, Mrs. George (Sandy) Putnam, all of Sunbury, and Richard E. Knouse, Oriental; and 11 grandchildren. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was employed as an electrician at Standard Steel, Burnham, retiring in 1998 after 29 years service. His funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market Street, McVeytown, with the Rev. Marian E. Hartman officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
MIFFLINBURG - Edgar William Knouse, 86, of Penns Creek Road, Mifflinburg RR1, died at 9:54 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at his home. Born Feb. 8, 1914, in Northumberland, he was the son of the late John William and Jennie Cornelia (Reigel) Knouse. His wife, Evelyn Louise (Kratzer) Knouse, whom he married June 14, 1947, in Middleburg with the Rev. Miller officiating, died Sept. 18, 1998. Surviving are: sons, Gregory D. Knouse, Lewistown, Gale P. Knouse and Robert A. Knouse, both of Mifflinburg RR1; a step-sister, Arlene Byler, Mechanicsburg; two step-brothers, Ralph L. Bordner, Sunbury, and H. Irvin Bordner, Mechanicsburg; two grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Erna Mae Spicher Knouse, on May 27, 1980; a sister, Charlotte Mohler; and two brothers, Clarence Knouse and Irvin Knouse. He attended Middleburg schools. He enlisted in the United States Army in Williamsport, Pa., Aug. 19, 1941, and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant in Washington, D.C., Dec. 1, 1945. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Campaign Ribbon, the Victory Medal, and the Asiatic Theatre Campaign Medal. He was a carpenter for various contractors from 1946-1954 and in 1978, he retired as a millwright after 24 years of service in the Philadelphia area. He was a charter member of the Millwrights and Machinery Erectors Union Local No. 1906, Philadelphia; the Union County Sportsmen's Club, Weikert; the Union County West End Fire Company, Glen Iron; the American Association of Retired Persons; and the American Legion Post 44, Northumberland. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the James L. Schwartz Home for Funerals, 247 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg, with the Rev. James Horace Gold, retired pastor of United Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will be in New Berlin Cemetery, where full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post No. 44, Northumberland. Family will receive friends after 7 p.m. Thursday and prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
LIVERPOOL - Dawn L. Kratzer, 50, of Liverpool RR1, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at her residence. Born Sept. 25, 1950, in Sunbury, she was a daughter of Dorothy (Rauch) Delbaugh of Liverpool and the late Mark "Sparky" Delbaugh Sr. Her husband, Greg L. Kratzer, whom she married Aug. 28, 1971, survives. Also surviving are: children, Greg L. "JR" Kratzer Jr., New Bloomfield, Mrs. Thomas (Kelly A.) Kuhns, Millersville, and Kimberly S. Kratzer, York; brother and sisters, Mark Delbaugh Jr., Liverpool RR1, Annette Goodling, Beavertown, Mrs. Kenneth (Eileen) Linn, Liverpool, Mrs. William (Kathy) Bowman, McAlisterville RR2, and Mary Maiolo, Hershey. She graduated from East Juniata High School in 1968, and from Shippensburg University in 1971 with a degree in business education. She worked as the rural mail carrier for the Millerstown RR2 for the U. S. Postal Service for 14 years. She was a member of the Liverpool United Methodist Church, where she was the church treasurer; served on the finance committee and the administrative board; taught in the Nursery Sunday School Class; and was the pianist for the Sunday school. She also participated in the annual CROP Walk, the Harrisburg American Heart Association Walk-A-Thon, and was a member of the Juniata County Literacy Program. She was an avid reader and loved to knit, cook and bake. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Liverpool United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Peter M. Beddia officiating. Interment will be in the Liverpool Union Cemetery, Liverpool. There will be no viewing, but friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of services Sunday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Liverpool United Methodist Church, Mission Fund, c/o William Pabst, 109 S. Market St., Liverpool, PA 17045. The George P. Garman Funeral Home Inc., 606 N. Front St., Liverpool, is in charge of arrangements.
LEWISTOWN - Hazel E. Kratzer, 93, of West Fifth Street, Lewistown, died at 11:50 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at her residence. Born Jan. 28, 1907, in Clarion, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Nettie Cleo Whisner. Her husband, Bartley "Wally" Kratzer, died Nov. 18, 1975. She is survived by a son, Larry Kratzer, West Fifth Street, Lewistown; four granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by five brothers. She was a member of Lake Park United Methodist Church, Lewistown. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Samuel King officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. LEWISTOWN - Mary E. Kratzer, 88, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, died at 4:25 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at the home. Born Aug. 27, 1912, in Centre Hall, she was the daughter of the late William W. and Florence (Pennel) Gonder. Her husband, John B. Kratzer, died in 1972. Surviving are a brother and a sister, Ruth A. Brindel, New Lancaster Valley, Milroy and Donald C. Gonder, Reedsville. She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. She was employed at the American Viscose Corporation, Lewistown and was the operator of the Lewistown Airport. She was the first licensed female pilot in the state of Pennsylvania. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville, with the Rev. Kenneth Longfield officiating. There will be no public viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to: Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, 163 Summit Drive, Lewistown, PA 17044 or to the charity of one's choice. RICHFIELD - Norman Walter "Norm" Kratzer, 73, of Richfield, died at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born Jan. 11, 1927, in Richfield, he was the son of the late Charles Michael and Edna (Lauver) Kratzer. His wife, Geraldine J. (Pellman) Kratzer, whom he married April 20, 1951, survives. Also surviving are: children, Donald N. Kratzer, Millerstown RR1, Ronald L. Kratzer, Richfield RR2, Mrs. Stanley (Connie J.) Heintzelman, Wernersville, Mrs. Tim (Von) Rickenbaugh, McAlisterville RR1, Mrs. Richard (Bonita K.) Hackenberg and Mrs. Rick (Lonnie J.) Colyer, both of Richfield RR1, and Mrs. Craig (Sondra A.) Bassler, McAlisterville; brothers and sister, Ernest N. Kratzer, Millerstown RR1, Elwood L. Kratzer, Richfield, Harold K. Kratzer, Richfield RR1, and Mrs. Mervin (Geraldine M.) Goodling, Mifflintown RR5; and 17 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence R. Kratzer in 1977 and Earl R. Kratzer Sr. in 1997. He was schooled at Stahl's Grammar schoolhouse, Freeburg High School and then attended Harrisonburg Mennonite High School, Harrisonburg, Va. He was a truck driver for Consolidated Freight Truck Lines, York from 1972 until retiring in 1990. He then did part time work for Gerald Lauver Trucking, Mount Pleasant Mills. He was a member and trustee of the Richfield Mennonite Church, the Richfield Ambulance League, and the Teamsters Local 776 of Harrisburg. He enjoyed camping, fishing, carpentry, and going on trips. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Richfield Mennonite Church, with Pastor Jerry R. O'Connell officiating and Pastor Chandler J. Cutting assisting. Interment will be in the Richfield Union Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at the church. Family will provide all flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to: the Richfield Mennonite Church-Youth Mission Fund, c/o RR1, Box 11, Richfield, PA 17086. The George P. PUEBLO, Colo. - Ruth L. Kratzer, 85, of 1574 25th Lane, Pueblo, Colo., died Thursday in Pueblo, Colo. Born April 15, 1915, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Virginia Logan. Her husband, Blair S. Kratzer, whom she married Oct. 18, 1934, preceded her in death June 25, 1971. Surviving are: children, George R. Kratzer, Pueblo, Colo., and David B. Kratzer, Midlothian, Texas; a sister, Esther V. Rodkey, Lewistown; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers. She was a homemaker. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the George McCarthy Historic Chapel, 401 Broadway, Pueblo, CO 81004. Interment will be in Willits Cemetery, Willits, Calif. Friends may call 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
TROXELVILLE - John F. Kreamer, 71, of Troxelville, died at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at his home after an extended illness. Born Aug. 2, 1928, in Center Township, Snyder County, he was the son of the late Irvin L. and Helen. E. (Blackford) Kreamer. His wife, Lucille A. (Zieber) Kreamer, whom he married April 3, 1953, survives. Also surviving are: sons, James R. Kreamer, Troxelville and John F. Kreamer Jr., Beavertown RR1; sisters, Isabelle G. Walter, Middleburg RR1 and Dorothy F. Kerstetter, Mifflinburg RR3; a brother, Paul R. Kreamer, Beavertown; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua D., in 1988; two sisters, Betty M. Kreamer in 1977 and Cristabelle F. Keister in 1992; and two brothers, Lloyd I. Kreamer and Kenneth A. Kreamer. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, earning a Good Conduct Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, a Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, a United Nations Service Medal and a Representative of Korea Presidential Unit Citation Badge. He worked at Sitkins Smelting and Refining, the Watsontown Brick Company, the Beavertown Block Company and Philco, Watsontown. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Troxelville. He was also a member of American Legion Post 945 of Wormleysburg, and a member of the American Association of Retired Persons. He enjoyed gardening and going for drives in the country. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church, Troxelville, with the Rev. Stanley D. Reep officiating. Interment will be in Troxelville Union Cemetery, where graveside military services will be provided by American Legion Post 23, Beaver Springs. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Friday at the Beavertown chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, where the family will be present 7-9 p.m. and from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to: Messiah Lutheran Church, Troxelville, PA 17882.
