MCVEYTOWN - Robert E. Krick, 81, of 6420 US Highway 522S, McVeytown, died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown. Born Aug. 24, 1919, in Perry County, he was the son of the late Harry and Ida (Lauver) Krick. His wife, Betty L. (Barger) Krick, whom he married April 4, 1941, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. James (Marcia) Hackenberg, 432 Strodes Run Road, Lewistown, Nettie E. Fisher, 1818 Back Maitland Road, Lewistown, Sheila L. Umbenhour, McVeytown, and Mrs. Ken (Brenda) Messerman, 2523 Back Maitland Road, Lewistown; half-sister, Mrs. Charles (Mary) Erb, 1159 Dormantown Road, McClure; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was employed at Arrow Division of Cluett Peabody & Co. as a security guard. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Dale Hippensteel officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery. There will be no public viewing, but family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
MILROY - Charles W. Kuhns Sr., 68, of 100 Cedar Grove Lane, Milroy, died Saturday, July 15, 2000, at his residence. Born March 20, 1932, in Reedsville, he was a son of the late Merle A. and Ruth I. (Rhoades) Kuhns Sr. Surviving are: children, Charles W. Kuhns Jr., Milroy, and Tammy Jean Kuhns, Erie; stepchildren, Penny Morgan, Lewistown, and Russell Matthews, New Lancaster Valley; brothers and sisters, Fred L. Kuhns, San Angelo, Texas, Mrs. Robert (Grace) Reed, Mrs. Maurice (Marlene) Frankhouser Sr., Louise Kuhns, and James A. Kuhns, all of Reedsville, Merle A. Kuhns Jr. and Paul E. Kuhns, both of Milroy, Dorothy Stitt and Mrs. John (Shirley) Wert, both of Lewistown; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Meroney. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He had worked at New Holland, Belleville, and retired as a self-employed farmer. He was a member of the American Legion, Milroy. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with the Rev. Edward P. Fleming Sr. officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville. LEWISTOWN - Joseph Land, 40, of 45 Hawstone Road, Lewistown, formerly of Salem, NJ, was pronounced dead at 12:34 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, in Milford Township, Juniata County. Born Feb. 14, 1960, he was a son of Dorothy (Hymer) George of Pennsville, NJ, and the late Clyde Howard Land II. He is also survived by a brother, Clyde Land III, Salem NJ; three sisters, Christine Seaholtz and Mary Furbush, both of Salem NJ, and Diane Walker, Lewistown; grandfather, Clyde Land I, Pennsville, NJ; grandmother, Mary Anna Hymer, Bridgeton, NJ; and several nieces and nephews. He was formerly employed at Chips Garage, Pennsville, NJ. He enjoyed fishing. Service information is incomplete at this time. Interment will be in Lawnside Cemetery, Sunrise Slope, Woodstown, NJ. Arrangements are being handled by the Woodside Funeral Home, Salem, NJ and the Associated National Cremation Service, Westville, NJ.
BELLEVILLE - William F. Lampmann, 77, of Belleville, formerly of Highland Avenue, Fort Washington, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Sept. 22, 1922, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late William and Ancie (Lupton) Lampman. His wife, Lydia S. (Swindlehurst) Lampmann, died Dec. 30, 1997. Surviving are: children, Lydia Weikel, Belleville, William J. Lampmann, Quakertown, Beth Currie, Maple Glen, Stephen F. Lampman, Mechanicsville, and Peter E. Lampmann, Fort Washington; a sister Doris Arnold, Spartansburg, S.C.; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was a graduate of Northeast High School and attended the University of Kentucky. He was a trust banker, employed by the former Industrial Valley Bank. Services will be held at noon Tuesday at the Oreland Presbyterian Church, Church and Paper Mill Roads, Oreland. Interment will be private. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the services Tuesday at the church. LEWISTOWN - James Harry Laskaris, of 264 Cornfield Circle, Lewistown, died at 12:50 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown. Born in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of Helen (Panos) Laskaris of 264 Cornfield Circle, Lewistown and the late Harry J. Laskaris. He is also survived by a sister, Stephanie Laskaris James of Charlotte, Vermont. He was a 1962 graduate of Lewistown High School and graduated from Juniata College. He also attended Duquesne University and the University of Pittsburgh Law School. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired from Laskaris Restaurant in 1994 after 15 years of service as manager. He was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church, Altoona and the Church of the Annunciation, Baltimore, Md. He was also a member of Lodge 663 BPOE, Lewistown. Services will be held at noon Friday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Father Paul Keriotis officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. There will be no viewing, but family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of the services Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 2209 Forest Hills Drive, Harrisburg, PA 17112.
LEWISTOWN - Sean R. Laughlin, infant son of Bruce Daniel and Stephanie L. (Smith) Laughlin of 3853 W. Main St., Belleville, was stillborn Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital. He is survived by: brothers, Joseph D. Shaeffer, Lehighton, Bruce C. Laughlin and Daniel P. Laughlin, both at home; paternal grandfather, Bruce E. Laughlin, 800 Big Ridge Road, Lewistown; and maternal grandparents, Myrtle Smith and William Zellner, both of Lehighton. He was preceded in death by paternal grandmother, Heloise Mateer and maternal grandfather, Arthur R. Smith. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Ted Janke officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.
MILFORD, N.J. - Emma C. Sourbeck Lawler, 86, of Milford, N.J., formerly of Lewistown, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at her home. Born June 16, 1914, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Herb and Martha Sourbeck. Her husband of 63 years, Bernard S. Lawler, died in 1997. Surviving are: children, Rose Stains, Milford, N.J., with whom she resided and Edward Lawler, Zuni, Va.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. She and her husband owned and operated Lawler's Cafe, Lewistown before moving to Milford in 1951. She then worked as an inspector at R.C.A. in Somerville, N.J., until retiring in 1972. She was a member of St. Edward the Confessor R.C. Church, Milford, N.J. and a member of the N.R.A. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the W.E. Johnson Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, N.J. Interment will be in Milford-Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Monday at the funeral home. MILLERSTOWN - Dora Edna Lawver, 77, of Millerstown RR2, Monroe Township, Juniata County, died at 9:02 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2000, at Brookline Manor Nursing Center, Mifflintown RR1, where she was a resident for the past four weeks. Born Aug. 2, 1922, in Greenwood Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Ross Wilson and Ruth (Piefer) Lawver. Surviving are a sister, Mae V. Lawver, Millerstown RR2 and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Beulah Mae Arbogast, on June 23, 1991. She was educated at the Center Grammar Schoolhouse in Greenwood Township. She was employed at the Liverpool Dress Factory as a seamstress for 20 years. Previously, she drove school bus for the B.K. Buslines for 10 years. She attended Richfield Evangelical Methodist Church, Richfield HCR72. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed gardening. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills, with the Rev. Kenneth E. Walter officiating and the Rev. Roy R. McCarty assisting. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Millerstown RR2. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
