ORBISONIA - Ethel H. Leonard, 89, of HCR 60, Orbisonia, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at her home in Black Log Valley. Born Feb. 23, 1911, in Jacobs, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Maude (Booher) Drake. Her husband, Harry S. Leonard, whom she married Jan. 24, 1931 in McConnellsburg, died June 10, 1994. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Robert (Betty) Konsella, Portland, Ore., Mrs. Russell (Shirley) Pollock, Shirleysburg RR, Fred D. Leonard and Mrs. Dean (Linda) Morgan, both of Rockhill Furnace, and Mrs. John (N. Marie) Bay, Lewistown; 13 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Ann; one brother; and one sister. In earlier years, she had worked at Greif Manufacturing, Mount Union. She was a lifelong member of Rockhill Church of the Brethren, Rockhill Furnace, where she was a deaconess, a Sunday school teacher, and a choir member. She was also a member of the WCTU, the Southern Huntingdon County Farm Women, the Golden Agers, and the Birthday Club. Services were held Wednesday at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with Pastor Len Smith officiating. Interment was in Jordan Cemetery, Orbisonia RR. LEWISTOWN - Robert E. Lepley, 85, of 15 French Drive, Lewistown, died at 12:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Oct. 19, 1915, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Charles W. and Frana (Bowers) Lepley Sr. His wife, Betty M. (Gutshall) Lepley, whom he married July 30, 1940, survives. Also surviving are a son, Robert P. Lepley, 15 Summit Manor, Lewistown, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. He was employed as a supervisor in production control at Standard Steel, Burnham, where he retired after 30 years of service in 1980. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Lewistown. He was also a member of the Lewistown Lions Club, the Lewistown Elks Lodge No. 663, City Hook and Ladder Fire Company, and Fame Fire Company. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown with the Rev. Gerald A. Krum officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Family will provide all funeral flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 120 N. Main St., Lewistown 17044.
LEWISTOWN - Helen E. Lewis, 89, of 12 Edgewood Place, Lewistown, died at 7:55 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2000, at Valley View Retirement Community in Belleville. Born Sept. 20, 1910, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late George H. and Mae (Scott) Lewis Sr. She was raised by the late Orpha Lewis. She is survived by a sister, Ruth Metz, 162 Shawnee Drive, Belleville. She graduated cum laude from Smith College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in languages. She was the first woman in Pennsylvania to serve as a manager of a state employment office. She retired from the Lewistown office after 40 years of service in 1972. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Lewistown, where she served as a member of the Vestry. She was a member of the Round Table of Christians and Jews, having received the Brotherhood Award in 1969. She was also a member of Business and Professional Women, of which she served as district director, Soroptimist and American Association of University Women. She was secretary of both the Mifflin-Juniata United Way and American Red Cross for many years. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Derald Stump officiating. Interment will be in St. Mark's Episcopal Cemetery. There will be no viewing; however, family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 21 S. Main St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
MILROY - Irene J. Lewis, 91, a resident of the Valley View Retirement Community, Belleville, and formerly of Milroy, died at 2:40 a.m. Friday, July 14, 2000, at Valley View Retirement Community. Born Aug. 11, 1908 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Thomas P. and Clara Jane (Little) Fultz. Her husband, Raymond E. Lewis, died July 26, 1977. Surviving are: children, Virginia S. Phillips, Milroy, Raymond A. Lewis, Reedsville and Robert E. Lewis, Milroy; a brother, Rush H. Fultz Sr., Lewistown; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson and 14 brothers and sisters. She was employed by the Cluett-Peabody/Arrow Shirt Company, Lewistown. She was a member of Shrader United Methodist Church and the Milroy Senior Citizens. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with Marshall Deckard officiating. Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, Siglerville. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the services today at the funeral home.
MILLERSTOWN - Violet F. Light, 93, of Millerstown, formerly of Liverpool, died at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at her residence. Born Jan. 16, 1907, in Steelton, she was a daughter of the late John and Daisy (Zeiders) Gelnett. Her husband, John B. Light, whom she married Dec. 4, 1931, died Nov. 7, 1991. Surviving are: daughters, Betty L. Bortell, Rochester, NY and Daisy L. Flanders, Liverpool RR2; a sister, Sara Beaver Hoover, Newport; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Harold Gelnett, Oscar Gelnett, Roy Gelnett and Mae Lyter. She graduated from Millerstown High School and West Chester State Normal School. She was an elementary school teacher at Liverpool Elementary School, retiring in 1972. She also taught in the Millerstown Elementary and many one-room schools in Perry and Juniata counties. She was a member of the Millerstown United Methodist Church and a previous member of Hunter's Valley EUB Church, where she had been Sunday school superintendent, teacher and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Perry County Retired Teachers Association and delivered Meals on Wheels in the Millerstown area. Her hobbies were tatting and sewing. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Millerstown United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Katherine A. Behrens and the Rev. Dr. James R. Behrens officiating. Interment will be the Riverview Cemetery, Millerstown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, Sunbury and High Streets, Millerstown. LEWISTOWN - Irona P. M. Lightner, 76, of 725 Roundhouse Road, Lewistown, died at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Sept. 17, 1924, in Vira, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Fannie (Kauffman) Casner. Her husband, Paul L. Lightner, died in 1987. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Robert (Joan) Barnham and Michael A. Lightner, both of Lewistown, Mrs. Thomas (Sharon) Hesketh Sr., Granville, and Christine E. Waters, Maryland; brothers and sisters, Julia G. Frohm and Alice Leeper, both of Lewistown, Mrs. William (Helen) Parkent, Essex, Md., and Mrs. Emory (Nellie) Hogans, Interlocken, Fla.; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. She was a homemaker and early in life, she was employed at the American Viscose Corporation. She was a member of Calvary Bible Church, Lewistown. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Roger R. Reece officiating. Interment will be in St. Mark's Episcopal Cemetery, Lewistown. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: Calvary Bible Church, 301 S. MILTON - Troy D. Linthurst, 81, of Milton RR1, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at his daughter's home in Mechanicsburg. Born Nov. 28, 1919, in Milroy, he was a son of the late Harvey William and Sarah (Aumiller) Linthurst. His wife of more than 55 years, Kathryn (Weaver) Linthurst, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Doug (Faye A.) Bowman, Mechanicsburg; a sister, Pauline Davidson, Milton; one granddaughter, one great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. He was a graduate of Milroy High School, attended Penn State and attended Bucknell University after serving in the Navy. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Navy as a Petty Officer First Class. He was a supervisor at American Home Foods, Milton, for 22 years, retiring in 1982. He was also co-owner with his wife, of the Linthurst Gift and Apparel Shop in Milton for 19 years. He was a member of Christ's Evangelical Church, Lewisburg; the Milton Elks; the Montandon Legion; and the Lewisburg Guild of Craftsmen. He was an avid tennis player when he was younger and was a woodworking crafter after retirement. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Christ's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewisburg, with the Rev. Scott E. Zimmerer officiating. Interment will be in Harmony Cemetery, Milton. Military services will be provided by members of the Montandon Legion. There will be no viewing. The family will provide all flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to Christ's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 S. Third St., Lewisburg, PA 17837. The John H. Shaw III Funeral Home, Market and Eighth Streets, Lewisburg, is in charge of arrangements.
LEWISTOWN - Lillie Mae Lockett, 96, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, formerly of Granville, died at 7:20 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at the nursing home. Born April 18, 1904, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late George and Ida M. (Knepp) Harbst. Her husband, George I. Lockett, died in 1976. She is survived by a sister, Catherine I. Butler of Lewistown; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, an infant daughter, a granddaughter and two brothers. She was a homemaker. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery, Burnham. Friends may call 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
