WILMINGTON, Del. - Genevieve E. (Dixon) Mowery of Wilmington, Del., formerly of Lewistown, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at St. Francis Hospital, Wilmington, Del. Born in Somerset County, she was a daughter of the late Archie and Emma (Pyle) Dixon. Her husband of 55 years, Daniel M. Mowery Sr., survives. Also surviving are: children, Daniel M. Mowery Jr., Port St. Joe Beach, Fla. and Mrs. Kevin M. (Cynthia A.) McGivney; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sister and brothers, Mary Alice Toot, Charles Dixon, Thomas Dixon and Richard Dixon. She worked as a credit manager for JC Penney of Wilmington, Del. for 19 years. After retiring, she was a credit analyst for Beneficial Bank and then worked for Little Learners Day Care, Wilmington, Del. She was a member of Seller's Senior Center and was a Past Worthy Matron of Brandywine Chapter 14, Order of the Eastern Star. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Belleville. Beeson Memorial Services of North Wilmington, Del., is in charge of arrangements.
YORK - Ricky Lee Mowery, 45, of York, died at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at York County Nursing Home. Born Jan. 8, 1955, in Lewistown, he was a son of Helen M. Silar of Red Lion and the late John William Mowery. Survived are: children, Richard A. Mowery and Rachel Mowery, both of Des Moines, Iowa; a sister, Deborah J. Shaffer, Lower Windsor Township; paternal grandfather, Lewis Mowery, Burnham; and stepfather, Eric N. Silar, Red Lion. He was a self-employed hog farmer for five years in Indianola, Warren County, Iowa. He was a member of the Salvation Army, Lewistown. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Salvation Army, 9 South Dorcas St., Lewistown, with Capt. Eddie H. Purvis officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the York/Adams Branch, Multiple Sclerosis Society, 2315 Susquehanna Trail North, York, PA 17404. The Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Home Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, is in charge of arrangements.
MIDDLEBURG - George A. Moyer, 58, of Middleburg RR4, died at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at his home. Born May 5, 1942, in Freeburg, he was a son of the late Henry E. Sr. and Esther Minnie (Shaffer) Moyer. His wife, Barbara E. (Fulmer) Moyer, whom he married March 27, 1971, died Nov. 8, 1991. Surviving are: daughters, Sarah E. Moyer, Hatboro and Rachel A. Moyer, Beaver Springs RR1; three sisters, Ruth DiDomenico, Lady Lake, Fla., Joyce Bachman, Fayetteville and Sandra Keiser, Milroy; three brothers, Henry Moyer Jr., Kreamer, Gerald Moyer, McClure and Gary Moyer,Mifflin; two half-sisters, Betty Herman, Beavertown RR1 and Helen Herman, Penns Creek; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Archie L. Moyer and David E. Moyer in infancy. He graduated from West Snyder High School in 1961. He served in the National Guard. He was a salesman for Allied Products and Services, New Cumberland for 19 years. Earlier in life he had been employed by West Chemicals, Philadelphia. He was a member of Beaver Lutheran Church, Beaver Springs. He enjoyed spending time with his daughters. Graveside services will be held at 1:15 p.m. Saturday at the Adamsburg Cemetery, Beaver Springs, with the Rev. Stanley D. Reep officiating. Following the interment a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at Beaver Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be made to: Snyder County Historical Society, Middleburg, PA 17842. The Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, is in charge of arrangements.
PORT ROYAL - M. Adrienne Moyer, 86, of Port Royal RR1, died at 5:46 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born May 15, 1914, in Milford Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late J. Melvin and Elizabeth Maude (Kurtz) Ernest. Her husband, Jerome H. Moyer, whom she married Sept. 28, 1946, survives. Also surviving are: sons, Ernest H. Moyer, Thompsontown, James N. Moyer, Milroy, and John M. Moyer, Mifflin; brother and sister, W. Nelson Ernest, South Plainfield, NJ and Miriam Swartz, Port Royal; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, John K. Ernest. She was a 1935 graduate of Port Royal High School She had been a helper for Meals on Wheels and had been active with the Juniata County Gray Ladies. She was a member of Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, Academia. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, Academia, with the Rev. Edward M. Trask and the Rev. Harold N. Imes officiating. Interment will be in Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Academia. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal.
THOMPSONTOWN - Donald L. Murray Sr., 51, of Thompsontown (Goodville), died at 11:11 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2000, at Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg. Born Aug. 10, 1948, in Thompsontown, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Anna Margaret (Harshbarger) Murray. Surviving are: sons, Donald L. Murray Jr., Hazelton and Michael W. Murray, Columbus, Ga.; sisters, Beverly J. Spade and Bonnie K. Frick, both of Thompsontown RR1 and Debra K. Nealman, Honey Grove; and one granddaughter. He graduated from East Juniata High School, Cocolamus in 1968. He was employed as a laborer for the past 31 years at Triangle Pacific Inc., Thompsontown. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and the Joiners Union 287, Harrisburg. He was an avid hunter and and racing fan, especially at Port Royal Speedway. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. John White officiating. Interment will be in the Maze Cemetery, Thompsontown RR1. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where family will be present from 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Church of Living Waters, Helping Hand Food Pantry, c/o Rev. John White, Box 571, Liverpool, PA 17045.
LEWISTOWN - Franklin P. Murray, 60, of 132 Valley St., Lewistown, died at 7:55 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at Centre Community Hospital, State College. He was born Nov. 11, 1940, in Somerset County. His companion, Elizabeth B. Esworthy, died Nov. 3, 2000. He was a production employee of Empire Kosher and Coble's Foods. He was a member of City, Hook, and Ladder Fire Company, the American Legion Post 90 and the Owl's Nest, all in Lewistown. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. There will be no viewing. Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
PORT ROYAL - Norma Joy Myers, 68, of Port Royal RR3 (Van Dyke), died at 6:10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born July 13, 1932, in Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Dirven C. and Bessie R. (Wileman) Wileman. Her husband, Roscoe P. Myers, died Sept. 7, 1990. Surviving are: children, Kevin L. Swartz and Mark A. Swartz, both of Port Royal RR3, and Mrs. Robert (Karen L.) Brough, Dillsburg; brother and sisters, Del Wileman, Florida, Naoma Trout, Lancaster, and Eva Ritzman, Locust Grove Retirement Village, HC 67, Mifflin; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Norman Swartz Jr., three brothers and five sisters. She retired on disability as a nurse's aide from Brookline Manor Convalescent Home, Mifflintown RR1. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with Pastor Jack D. Twombly officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Walker Township, Juniata County. LEWISTOWN - Betty L. Narehood, 75, of 833 E. Walnut St., Lewistown, died at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn. Born March 15, 1925, in Milroy, she was the daughter of the late J. and Edna H. (Fultz) Workinger. Her husband, Charles N. Narehood, died June 5, 1991. Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Sandra K.) Bowen, Port Royal; sisters and brothers, Jean Ernest, Brookhaven, Ima Bender, Dean E. Workinger, and Glenn E. Workinger, all of Milroy; two granddaughters and one great-grandson. She was a graduate of Milroy High School. Early in life, she worked at the American Viscose Corporation and the Gerbo Shoe Company, Lewistown. She was a member of White Memorial United Church of Christ, Milroy and the Women of the Moose, Lewistown. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the the Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy, with the Rev. James E. Hughes officiating. There will be no viewing.
