PORT ROYAL - Kenneth E. Neff, 46, of Port Royal RR2, died at 6:17 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital of natural causes. Born Oct. 18, 1953, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Earl C. and Kathryn A. (Coon) Neff. His wife, Lisa (Aughey) Neff of Port Royal RR2, whom he married March 6, 1982, survives. Also surviving are: children, Michelle R. Neff and Justin C. Neff, both at home. He was a 1972 graduate of Juniata High School, Mifflintown and a 1976 graduate of Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown. He was currently serving as the assessor for Juniata County. He had been a former science teacher at Carson Long Institute, New Bloomfield and worked selling tickets at the Port Royal Speedway and the Juniata County Fair. He was also a bonded locksmith. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Port Royal Lutheran Church, the Turbett Grange 781 and served on the Juniata County Republican committee. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with the Rev. Marton J. Roberson officiating. Interment will be in New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. MCALISTERVILLE - Calvin Nerhood Jr., 73, of McAlisterville RR2, died at 7:55 p.m. Monday, July 10, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Dec. 31, 1926, in Blairs Mills, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the Calvin and Mabel (Kling) Nerhood Sr. His wife, Ardella Ann (Smith) Nerhood, died Oct. 24, 1972. He is survived by a companion of 28 years, Kay Sheaffer, McAlisterville and one son, Douglas C. Nerhood, McAlisterville RR2. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Nerhood and Harold Nerhood. He was a 1944 graduate of Orbisonia High School. He retired in 1988 as a truck driver for Triangle Pacific Cabinets, Thompsontown, after 36 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, boating and motorcycling. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. David P. Landis officiating and William H. Landis Jr. assisting. Interment will be in Goodwill Cemetery, Bunkertown. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. LEWISTOWN - Robin J. Newman, 35, a resident of Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, 276 Green Ave., Lewistown, died at 6:10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at Ohesson Manor. Born Dec. 25, 1964, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of Mary (Miller) Newman Powell and step-father Kenneth Powell, of 154 Orchard Grove, Lewistown. Also surviving are: brothers and sister, Nancy Eriksen, Mrs. David (Vickie) Kauffman and Thomas A. Newman, all of Lewistown, Brian D. Newman, Melborne, Fla., and Barry L. Newman, Long Beach, Miss. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Charles (Linda) Cherry, on Nov. 4, 2000. She attended Skills Inc. of Lewistown. She was a member of the Brooklyn Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary and of the Girl Scouts of America. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ralph Wilson officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. Memorial contributions may be made to Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, 276 Green Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044.
LIVERPOOL - Steven George "Swifty" Newman, 44, of Liverpool RR1, died of a heart attack on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, while on a fishing trip near Syracuse, NY. Born Feb. 26, 1956, in Sunbury, he was a son of the late George William and Patricia Ann (Eckrod) Newman. His wife, Kathy M. (Spade) Newman, whom he married April 9, 1977, survives. Also surviving are: children, Keith R. Newman, at home, Steven L. Strawser, Millerstown RR and Kelly S. Newman, Liverpool, RR1; sisters, Mrs. Roy (Joanna L.) Stahr, Liverpool RR1, Kim L. Newman, Mount Pleasant Mills RR2, Cynthia L. Newman, Port Trevorton RR2 and Rebecca A. Herb, Middleburg; and three grandchildren. He attended Selinsgrove High School. He was employed by the Sunbury Textile Mills, where he worked as a laborer since 1974. He was a Protestant by faith. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills, with the Rev. Timothy L. Cooley, the Academic Dean of Penn View Bible Institute, officiating. Interment will be in the Halls (Zion) Lutheran Church Cemetery, Port Trevorton RR1. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
MIFFLINTOWN - Helen W. Niemond, 81, of Mifflintown RR2, died at 8:50 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg. Born June 28, 1919, in Van Wert, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Harrison and Ruth (Shirk) Winey. Her husband, Marlin W. "Sparky" Niemond, died Sept. 18, 1992. Surviving are: children, George A. Niemond, New York City, NY, Stephen W. Niemond, Mifflintown, Mrs. Kenneth (Marlene) Zook and Jane A. Niemond, both of Harrisburg; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant sister. She was a 1935 graduate of Mifflintown High School and a graduate of Central Penn Business School. She was a teller at the Thompsontown branch of the Russell National Bank, retiring after many years. She was a life-long member of the Free Spring Church of the Brethren, where she was the organist for many years and a former deacon. She enjoyed reading, gardening and playing the piano and organ. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Free Spring Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Terry Smith officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Lost Creek Mennonite Cemetery. There will be no public viewing. DANVILLE - Haydden P. Nobles, infant son of Larry Nobles of Lewistown and Heather Marks of 207 Seventh Ave., Burnham, died at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, shortly after his birth at 5:15 p.m., at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He is survived by a brother, Clayton Nobles, at home; maternal grandparents, William and Bonnie Allen of Burnham and Jeffrey and Shirley Marks of Belleville; paternal grandparents, Rick and Rebecca Gentzel of Reedsville. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
MILLERSTOWN - Anna Mary Noll, 67, of Millerstown, died at approximately 6 a.m. Sunday, Nov. l9, 2000, of natural causes, in her home. Born March 30, 1933, in Ickesburg, she was a daughter of the late Frank G. and Ida Mae (Wilson) Simonton. Her husband, Frederick M. Noll, whom she married Aug. 30, 1952, died April 22, 1980. She is survived by three sons, Keith E. Noll of Thompsontown, Frank A. and Jeffrey L. Noll, both of Enola; a sister, Mildred Showers, Millerstown; and six grandchildren. She graduated from Greenwood High School in l951. She was employed by the United Telephone Company as a telephone operator at Newport and Carlisle, until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of the Millerstown United Methodist Church, where she helped with the church bazaars and the Strawberry Festivals. She was active in the Millerstown Senior Citizens Center and was a member of the Women of the Moose, Millerstown. She was an avid supporter of Greenwood High School Athletics and enjoyed attending Greenwood High School band and choral concerts as well as the high school theater productions. She also followed professional football, baseball and college football. She enjoyed music and reading. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, Sunbury and High St., Millerstown, with the Rev. Katherine A. Behrens and the Rev. Dr. James R. Behrens officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Millerstown. There will be no viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Greenwood Athletic Association, c/o Gary Shipp, 405 E. Sunbury St., Millerstown, PA 17062 or to the Millerstown United Methodist Church, 602 Sunbury St., Millerstown, PA 17062.
MCVEYTOWN - George E. Notestine, 66, of Queen Street, McVeytown, died at 3:50 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at his home. Born Aug. 25, 1934, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late John E. and Mildred (Bourdess) Notestine. His wife, D. Jean (McCormick) Notestine, whom he married Oct. 15, 1966, survives. Also surviving are: sons, Edwin C. Blessing, McVeytown and Eric K. Notestine, Annandale, Va.; brothers and sister, H. Richard Notestine, Tyrone, Frederick W. Notestine and Mrs. Glenn (Jean) Harbst, both of Reedsville, Thomas L. Notestine, McVeytown; one grandson and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, John R. Notestine. He was a U. S. Army veteran. He retired from Pennsylvania Glass Sand Company and Whitaker Brothers, Rockville, Md. He was a member of the McVeytown Presbyterian Church; the McVeytown Lodge 376 F&AM; the Lewistown Chapter 186 Royal Arch Masons; Jaffa Temple, Altoona; and Tall Cedars of Lebanon Juniata Forest 88. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the McVeytown Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jeanette Rapp officiating. Interment will be in the Pine Glen Cemetery. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
