LEWISTOWN - Grace M. O'Kane, 92, of Ohesson Manor, Lewistown, formerly of McClure and Upper Darby, died at 1:25 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2000, at the manor. Born Feb. 26, 1908, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary McFadden. Her husband, James L. O'Kane, whom she married in 1933, died March 2, 1948. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy O. Leonard, Newtown Square and Geraldine M. Langton, McClure; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She worked for the former Bell Telephone Company as an information supervisor. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Lewistown. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Louis Church, W. Cobbs Creek Parkway, Yeadon, with Father Banner officiating. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon. Family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. The Aurand Funeral Home, North Brown St., McClure and the William H. Logan Funeral Home, 805 Longacre Blvd., Yeadon, are in charge of arrangements.
MIFFLIN - Harvey E. Orwan, 62, of Parker Street, Mifflin, died at 9:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Nov. 30, 1937, in Thompsontown, he was a son of the late Harry A. and Bessie K. (Jacobs) Orwan. His wife, Tabitha G. (Trego) Orwan, whom he married Jan. 3, 1997, survives. Also surviving are: children, David W. Orwan, McAlisterville, Donald E. Orwan, Liverpool, Crystal J. Orwan-Collins, Millerstown, Jorgie J. Rodriquez of Mifflintown, Rick Orwan, Myserville, Gloria Master, Mount Pleasant Mills, Brenda Snook, Middleburg and Judy Orwan; sisters, Janet A. Rhoads, Washington, DC, Becky Myers, Marysville, and Charlotte Rice McGowan, Thompsontown; half-sisters, Mildred Fickes, Newport, and Mary Delduana, Philadelphia; and 17 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Franklin E. Orwan and Glenn A. Orwan, and a half-brother, Sam Rice. He had been employed at Empire Kosher Poultry Plant, Mifflintown and at Triangle Pacific, Thompsontown, and also as a construction worker. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Cross Roads Cemetery, Maze, with the Rev. Jack Twombly officiating. Interment will follow the service. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown. REEDSVILLE - Evelyn G. Packard, 81, of 145 Duke St., Reedsville, died at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2000, at Manor Care Health Services, Camp Hill. Born March 3, 1919, in Belleville, she was a daughter of the late James Andrew and Myrtle A. (Stuter) Crownover. Her husband, Donald F. Packard, preceded her in death Oct. 9, 1982. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Joseph (Lois) Goss, Dillsburg, Mrs. Earl (Dorothy) Himes Beatty, Port Royal, and Donald E. Packard, Belleville; seven grandchildren and three great-granddaughters; half-sisters, Mrs. Robert (Donna) Pry, Hershey, Mrs. Jay (Altheda) Shade, Anaheim, Calif., Mrs. James (Darlis) Dell, Huntingdon, and step-sister, Mrs. David (Carol) Farmer, Elizabethtown. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Crownover and A. Mildred Stuck; a brother, Jesse Crownover; half-sisters, Arlene McFadden, Vergie Crownover, Ruth Yoder and Esther Crownover; and a step-mother, Alta Hostetler Crownover Habbershon. She was an inspector for Cluett Peabody, having retired in 1982. She attended United Methodist Church. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville with the Rev. John Libert officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
REEDSVILLE - Christa E. Paden, 77, of 508 Honey Creek Road, Reedsville, died at 11:50 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Dec. 11, 1922, in Breslau, Germany, she was a daughter of the late Ewald and Emma (Herbe) Kanty. Her husband, Ralph B. "Bud" Paden, died Aug. 13, 1963. Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Brian (Christine) Wilhelm, 86 Betty Circle, Reedsville; a sister, Irmgard Steudel Wiesemann, Germany; and two granddaughters. She was preceded in death by a brother, Heinz Steudel, and two sisters, Charlotte Erdmann and Eva Marie Klober. She was a retired secretary of Brown Township and former secretary for Peachey Builders and J.M. Young and Sons, Belleville. She was a member of Reedsville Lutheran Church and the Lady Greenwood Lodge, No. 308 Rebekah's, Belleville. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville, with the Rev. Kenneth Longfield officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Reedsville Lutheran Church, 200 East Logan St., Reedsville, PA 17084.
LEWISTOWN - Phyllis A. Page, 73, of 206 Spring St., Lewistown, died at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2000 at her residence. Born Aug. 9, 1927 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late George and Ledith (Wagner) Fleisher. Her husband Earl Page Jr. preceded her in death on May 29, 1996. Surviving are: children; Mrs. Alan (Linda) Slapinski, Saltsburg and James Page, McClure; brothers, Jerry Fleisher, Burnham and Richard Fleisher, York; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter. She was employed at American Viscose Corporation, Montgomery Ward and at Lewistown Hospital, where she retired as a supervisor in housekeeping. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. James Slapinski officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. LEWISTOWN - Franklin R. Palm, 65, of 166 Valley St., Lewistown, died at 9:29 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at his residence. Born Oct. 19, 1934, in Mifflintown, he was the son of the late Bruce and Esther (Bowersox) Palm. His wife, Marie (Reichley) Palm, whom he married in 1960, survives. Also surviving are: sons, Frank C. Palm, Jerry G. Palm, and William H. Palm, all of Lewistown, and James C. Palm, McClure; sisters, Mrs. Donald (Becky) Eward, Mifflintown RR, Gladys Hall and Janet Panunzio, both of Lewistown; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Palm in 1970; a brother, Gene Palm; and a sister, Dorothy Drupp. He was a laborer, having been employed by Ford Garage, Mifflintown; Laskaris Restaurant, Lewistown; Embassy Theatre, Lewistown; and Weyant's Picture Framing, Lewistown. He was a life member of the Fame Fire Co., the Junction Fire Co., and the Brooklyn Hose Co. He was also a member of the City, Hook and Ladder Fire Co.; VFW Post 7011, Lewistown; the American Legion Post 90, Lewistown; and the Lewistown Moose Lodge 143. He was a former Little League Coach in Lewistown. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel of Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown RR, with the Rev. Gerald A. Krum officiating. There will be no public viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HOSPICE: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St, Lewistown, PA 17044 or to the American Cancer Society, 26 N. MIFFLINTOWN - Beatrice C. Pannebaker, 93, of Perry Village, New Bloomfield, formerly of Mifflintown RR1, died Friday at Harrisburg Hospital. Born March 28, 1907 in Fermanagh Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Edwin L. and Carrie (Warner) Whistler. Her husband Roy F. Pannebaker preceded her in death on May 30, 1977. Surviving are: a sister, Mrs. James (Helen M.) Maddox, Fairfield; a sister, Mary E. Dolin, Mifflintown RR1; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Eva Pannebaker, and by two infant brothers, Ray Whistler and Ed Whistler. She managed the cafeteria at the Fermanagh-Mifflintown Elementary School until her retirement in 1968. She was a member of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church, and a member of the Juniata County Retired School Employees. She enjoyed cooking, reading and crocheting. Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. at Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Karl Herman and the Rev. Norman Marden officiating. Interment will be in Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown. Friends may call from 1 p.m. Tuesday, until the time of the service at the funeral home. LEWISTOWN - Jack E. Parker, 84, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, formerly of 352 Hillsdale Ave., Lewistown, died at 6:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at the nursing home. Born April 23, 1916, in Kansas City, Mo., he was the son of the late James Scott and Mabel Bertha (Prosser) Parker. His wife, Anita R. Parker, died May 4, 2000. Surviving are: sons, Kenneth Parker, Philadelphia and James Parker, Lindsborg, Kan., and four grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family. He was employed as an engineer at Overhead Door Corporation, Lewistown. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing.
