THOMPSONTOWN - Paul L. Pellman, 82, of Thompsontown RR2, died at 8:15 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Aug. 8, 1917, in West Perry Township, he was the son of the late Esther (Pellman) Watts. His wife, Adaline (Graybill) Pellman, whom he married July 21, 1951, survives. Also surviving are: sons, John Pellman, Millerstown and Anthony Pellman, Mifflintown RR2; half-brother, Frederick P. Watts, Selinsgrove; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a half-brother, Robert Watts. He was employed as a truck driver for W.D. "Bill" Spece, Thompsontown, and later as a salesman for Leidy Chevrolet, Mifflintown, until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Thompsontown; a 50 year member of Tennis Lodge 371 of F&AM, Thompsontown; a member of the Harrisburg Consistory; a past Grand Tall of the Tall Cedars, Lebanon; and a past member of the Thompsontown Borough Council. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking and tinkering. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Thompsontown, with the Rev. Louise L. Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in the church Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the services Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund of to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Organ Fund, PO Box 217, Thompsontown, PA 17094. The Ronald C. MCCLURE - Bradley M. Pennebaker, 61, of 5678 Back Maitland Road, McClure, died at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at his residence. Born July 31, 1939, in Lewistown, he was the son of Howard and Esther (Long) Pennebaker of 5616 Back Maitland Road, McClure. His wife, Elda (Fisher) Pennebaker, whom he married July 21, 1961, survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Nancy Lee Pennebaker, Lewistown and a brother, Kenneth Pennebaker, Troy, W. Va. He served in the United States Air Force from 1957-1961. Early in life, he worked for K. B. Aerotech and later was co-founder of Echo Ultrasound, Lewistown. He was an electronic engineer and owner/operator of Pennebaker Enterprise from 1983 to the present. He was a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: the Decatur Volunteer Fire Company, 4277 US Highway 522N, Lewistown, PA 17044.
LEWISTOWN - Mildred J. Pennebaker, 74, of 595 Hawstone Road, Lewistown, died at 9:56 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born Nov. 11, 1925 in Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late John J. and Elizabeth (Toner) Baker. Her husband James M. Pennebaker Sr. preceded her in death in 1995. Surviving are: children; James M. Pennebaker Jr., 589 Hawstone Road, Lewistown and Mrs. Clifford (Jeannette) Donelson, 595 Hawstone Road, Lewistown; sisters, Margaret Young and Mrs. Marion (Hazel) Semler, both of Reedsville and Mrs. Donald (Florence) Kline, Lewistown; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers. She was a hand presser at Scotty's Fashions, Lewistown for 15 years, before retiring in 1985. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Lewistown. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in St. Mark's Episcopal Cemetery, Lewistown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 501 Howard Ave., Bldg. D, Suite 101, Altoona, PA 16601.
CABOT, Ark. - Shirley Ann Perkins, 71, of Cabot, Ark., died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at Baptist Hospice, Cabot, Ark. Born May 12, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Edna Smith. Her husband, Richard Perkins, preceded her in death. Surviving are: children, William Perkins, North Pole, Ala., Albert Perkins, Leetonia, Ohio, Barry Perkins, Sherwood, Ark., and Betty Houston, Cabot, Ark.; stepchildren, Carl Perkins, Marion, Ark,. and Carolyn Brown, Des Moines, Iowa; brother and sister, Lewis Smith and Evelyn Charlesworth, both of Lewistown; six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. She was a United States Air Force veteran. She retired from civil service. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cabot Funeral Home Chapel, 700 N. Second St., Cabot, Ark. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Cabot, Ark. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to your local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
GRANVILLE - Walter L. Persing, 75, a resident of the Malta Home, Granville, formerly of 8 Woods Lane, Lewistown, died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at the home. Born Jan. 17, 1925, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Vernon and Emma (Sunberry) Persing. He is survived by brothers, William Persing, Hollidaysburg and Howard Persing, 6 Woods Lane, Lewistown. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Persing. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. Gerald A. Krum officiating. Interment will be held at the Lutheran Cemetery, Lewistown. There will be no public viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 120 N. EAST WATERFORD - Dean E. Peterson, 80, of East Waterford, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at his residence. Born Feb. 24, 1920, in Tuscarora Township, Juniata County, he was the son of the late Marshall and Eva (Palm) Peterson. His wife, Mary Katharine "Kate" (Foose) Peterson, preceded him in death on Aug. 19, 1992. Surviving are: three daughters, Cheryl Deanette Runk, Chambersburg, Karen Smith, East Waterford RR1, and Rhonda Foehlinger, Port Royal; a brother, John M. Peterson, New Bloomfield RR1; a sister, Pearl Ritchey, Honey Grove; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a great-granddaughter. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theatre of Operations. He was the former owner-operator of Peterson's Garage in East Waterford. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, VFW Post 5049, Mifflintown, the Boat Owners Association of the United States, the Loyal Order of Moose 925, Millerstown, and the Moose Legion 41. Graveside services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There will be no public viewing. STATE COLLEGE - Dorothy C. Phillips, 86, a resident of University Park Nursing Center, State College, formerly of Lawler Place, Lewistown, died at 11:40 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Centre Community Hospital, State College. Born Sept. 13, 1913, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Blaine James and Alice L. (Davis) Gibboney. She is survived by brother and sisters, Donald Gibboney, Milroy, Mrs. Merle (Hazel) Hafer, Reedsville, Mrs. Jack (Pearl) Gailwick, Haferstown, Md., Mrs. Russell (Shirley) Dolan, Shirmensville, and Betty Gibboney, Lewistown; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Marlin Briggs on July 8, 1982, and two sisters. She retired from Gibboney Woolen Mill. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lind Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Howard Houtz officiating. There will be no viewing. Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
YORK - John R. Phillips, 80, of West Manchester Township, York, and formerly of Camp Hill, died Monday, July 17, 2000, in York Hospital. Born March 27, 1920, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Reese and Emma Jane (Hill) Phillips. His wife, Jean E. (Gentzler) Chronister Phillips, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Donna Jane Goodwin, Beaver Springs; stepchildren, Todd R. Chronister, York and Sandra J. Ellis, Mont Pelier, Va.; a sister, Emma Jane Pazula, Morris Plains, NJ; and five grandchildren. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, earning the European Medal, African Medal and the Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and the Central European Theaters. He was a retired regional vice president and general manager for Maryland Casualty Insurance Company, Camp Hill, and was currently employed by Best & Company, NJ. He was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church, Camp Hill, and attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Manchester. He was also a member of Lowther Manor Lodge No. 781, F&AM, Camp Hill and the Hawks Gunning Club, York. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Interment will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Township. Friends may call 6-8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
