NEWPORT - Margaret M. "Margie" Pyle, 77, of 431 E. Walnut St., Lewistown, formerly of Newport, died at 7:40 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2000, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin. Born Jan. 27, 1923, in Wilmington Del., she was the daughter of the late Stuart and Jeannette (Tillman) Cooke. Her husband, Paul H. Pyle, died in 1991. Surviving are: children, Harry Dale, Lewistown, JoAnn Yoder, Lewistown, with whom she was living, Herb Hunsucker, Delaware City, Del., Patricia Baker, Newark, N.J. and Sharon Baker, New Castle, Del.; sisters, Mary Drummond, Pilesgrove, N.J. and Bertha Davidson, Bishopville, Md.; her twin brother, Ernest Dale, Wilmington, Del. and brother, Robert Dale, Townsend, Del.; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Moose Lodge, New Castle, Del. Chapter 1418, where she was a volunteer and formerly served as Senior Regent and Collegian. She was also a member of the Airport Speedway, and a member of the Lewistown VFW. She enjoyed bingo, garage sales and auto racing. She was an avid Jeff Gordon fan. Services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Nichols-Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 E. Justis St., Newport. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, where an 11 a.m. graveside service will be held Friday after a procession to the Cemetery. Family and friends can gather at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home for the procession. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
LEWISTOWN - Lena M. Rager, 85, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, formerly of 4 Pinewood Road, Yeagertown, died at 2:28 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born March 4, 1915, in Yeagertown, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Florence E. (Kupple) Simpkins. Her first husband, Ray B. Rager, died in 1974 and her second husband, Charles E. Rager, died in 1993. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Charles (Edith) Snook, Belleville; 27 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, three daughters, one great-granddaughter, two brothers and two sisters. Early in life, she worked as a cook at Red's Diner, Lewistown and was last employed as a production worker at Empire Kosher, Mifflintown. She was a member of the auxiliary of the City, Hook, and Ladder Fire Company and the Yeagertown Fire Company. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel at Juniata Memorial Park, with the Rev. William Pidgeon officiating. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: the American Heart Association, 501 Howard Ave., Building D, Suite 101, Altoona, PA 16601. Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
LEWISTOWN - Mary G. Rager, 97, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, formerly of 226 Broad St., Milroy, died at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at the nursing home. Born Dec. 14, 1902, in Orbisonia, she was the daughter of the late George and Ella Rabenstein. Her husband, Ranzel B. Rager, died March 8, 1989. Surviving are: a son, Robert R. Rager, McClure; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and three step-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by one brother and four sisters. She was employed as a nurse in the dispensary of Standard Steel, Burnham for 10 years. She was a member of Milroy United Methodist Church and a former member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class and the administrative board of the church. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Milroy United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bert Bowen officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Milroy United Methodist Church, Main Street, Milroy, PA 17063. MILROY - Frank B. Ramsey, 89, of 5 Ramsey Lane, Milroy, died at 6 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at his residence. Born Sept. 14, 1911, in Milroy, he was the son of the late Charles Wilbur and Lottie May (Wagner) Ramsey. His first wife, Verna Marie (Coulson) Moyer Ramsey, died in 1958 and his second wife, Kathryn Geraldine (Thomas) Peck Ramsey, died in 1993. Surviving are: stepchildren, Francis L. Moyer, Lewistown, Jean B. Martinozzi and Joan B. Bush, both of Williamsport, and Shirley Winder, Hamburg, NY; 10 step-grandchildren and 23 step-great-grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family. He was a self-employed farmer; worked for Precision Wear (Triangle Pacific) for a short time; was a truck driver for Smith Feed Mill, Newport; and retired from Capital Products, Mechanicsburg in 1975 after 18 years of service. He was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church, Havice Valley, where he was a board member. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Marks United Methodist Church, Havice Valley, Milroy, with the Rev. L. Ed Moore and Marshall Deckard officiating. Interment will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the Bohn Funeral Home, 55 N. Main St., Reedsville. SPRING RUN - Thursa Martha Davis Ranck, 75, of 17973 Path Valley Road, Spring Run, died at 10:27 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Chambersburg Hospital. Born June 14, 1925, in Mifflintown, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Rebecca (Dunn) Whipple. Her husband, Norman S. David, died Nov. 5, 1997. Surviving are: sons, Ronald E. David, Orrstown, Guy W. Davis, Waynesboro, and Andrew L. Davis, Chambersburg; brother and sister, Edwin Whipple, Fayetteville and Beatrice Lauver, Manheim; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Norman L. Davis on April 18, 1986. She had been employed for a number of years at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg and also worked as a certified nursing assistant in California and had done private duty nursing in the Franklin County area. She was a member of the Amberson United Methodist Church, Amberson, the United Methodist Women, and the Path Valley Lioness Club. She was an avid bowler, having participated in league bowling and tournaments. She also enjoyed knitting and fishing. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Roxbury United Methodist Church, Roxbury, with the Rev. John Fickett officiating. Interment will be private. Family will receive friends immediately following the service Thursday at the church. DRUMS - Eugene Ray, 85, of 99 Biesels Road, Drums, died at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Boston University Medical Center. He had been vacationing in Boston with his family. Born Dec. 4, 1914, at Fishers Hill, Hazle Township, he was the son of the late C. Frank and Jennie (Ammerman) Ray. His wife, Martha (Gilbert) Ray, preceded him in death. He is survived by a companion, Blanche Miller. Also surviving are: sons, Robert E. Ray, Drums, David G. Ray, Reedsville, and William G. Ray; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters and by a granddaughter, Monica Ray and a grandson, Eugene W. Ray. He graduated from the Mining and Mechanical Institute, Freeland. He was retired from St. Regis Paper Company. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, St. Johns; the Hazleton YMCA Senior Citizens; and the Golden Age Group of Christ Lutheran Church, Hazleton. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Johns Lutheran Church, St. Johns, with the Rev. Manuel Stivers officiating. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday at the church. The family requests no flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to: St. Johns Lutheran Church, PO Box 2, St. Johns, PA 18247. MILROY - Alberta C. "Tiny" Reed, 89, a resident of Valley View Retirement Community, Belleville, formerly of 236 Broad St., Milroy, died at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at Valley View. Born Jan. 6, 1911, in Milroy, she was the daughter of the late William Robert and Eva Victoria (Aumiller) Reed. She is survived by a son, Maurice R. "Tim" Reed, Milroy; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Reed on Sept, 9, 1990 and a brother Morris L. Reed on Aug. 15, 1987. She had been employed at the Thompson Hosery Mill, Milroy, the Alert Shoe Company, Milroy and the Milroy Dry Cleaners. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with the Rev. Robert Zorn and Pastor Bert Bowen officiating. Interment will be in the Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W. TROXELVILLE - Carl A. Reich, 60, of Troxelville, died at 3:58 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. Born March 22, 1940, in Spring Township, Snyder County, he was a son of the late George V. and Anna D. (Smith) Reich. His wife, Lucille M. (Camp) Reich, whom he married Nov. 29, 1958, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Samuel A. (Dora M.) Geise, Middleburg and Douglas A. Reich, Beaver Springs; sisters and brothers, Julia Keister, Penns Creek, Marian Kreamer, Beavertown, Phyllis Swanger, New Berlin, George Richard, Selinsgrove RR; Dale Reich and Norman Reich, both of Beavertown RR1; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucy Reich, Marjorie Ettinger and Helen Hood; two brothers, Harold Reich and Donald Reich; and a granddaughter, Shawna B. Reich. He was a charter member and helped build the St. Peter's Independent Bible Church, Beavertown RR1. He served as a lay leader, board member and Sunday School teacher of the church for many years. He completed his pastoral studies through the American Evangelical Christian Church School, where he became licensed and ordained. His first church was the Church of the Open Door, Evendale, 1972-1979. He also served at St. Thomas Independent Brethren Church and St. Peter's Independent Bible Church. He also served in the Mexican Indian Missions in Arizona 1979-1980. He was last employed by JPM, Beaver Springs in the coax department. He had also been employed by Beavertown Weaving Mill, Milton Shoe, Beaver Shoe, Cameron Hatchery, Walnut Acres, Marlin Industries, drove handicapped school children in the Midd-West School District and served as an Adams Township supervisor. He sang and played bass for the Gospel Strings. He enjoyed his family, hiking, camping, singing, baseball, softball and eating. Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at St. Peter's Independent Church, with the Rev. Thomas Schroeder and B. C. Threet officiating. Interment will be in the church Cemetery. Friends may call 5-9 p.m. Thursday at the church, where the family will be present 6:30-9 p.m. The family will also receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be to: the Child Evangelism Fellowship Building Fund, PO Box 38, Middleburg, PA 17842 or to the Snyder County Gideons, PO Box 125, Selinsgrove, PA 17870.
