STATE COLLEGE - Sara J. Schell, 55, of 2004 N. Atherton St., State College, died at 2:50 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at Centre Community Hospital. Born Jan. 29, 1945, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Joseph E. and Frances E. (Fleming) Rodgers. Her husband, Robert C. Schell, whom she married in Lewistown Dec. 22, 1967, died Jan. 9, 1989. Surviving are: a daughter, Connie Warefield, Barree; a foster son, William Pennington, Terre Hill; sister and brothers, Barbara Noll, Middleburg, Fla., Duane Fleming, Iowa and Joseph Rodgers, Lewistown. She attended Chief Logan High School, Lewistown. She was a nurses aide at William Penn Nursing Home, Lewistown and later at Clear Care Nursing Service, Bellefonte. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, State College and Women of the Moose, Bellefonte. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 18 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, State College. Interment will be in St. John's Catholic Church Cemetery, Bellefonte. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wetzler Funeral Service Inc., PO Box 7, Bellefonte, PA 16823.
HARRISBURG - Patricia C. Emery Schindler, 69, of 400 Camp Reily Road, Harrisburg and formerly of Port Royal, died at 7:50 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born Sept. 3, 1930, in Port Royal, she was a daughter of the late Leonard and Hazel (Smith) Emery. Surviving are: a son, Nathan P. Schindler, Harrisburg; two sisters, Mrs. Ed (Phyllis) Leonard and Mrs. Hubert (Alice) Parsons, both of Port Royal; and three grandchildren. She was a 1949 graduate of the Tuscarora Valley High School, Port Royal and a retired key-punch operator, having worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Harrisburg. She attended the Columbia Assembly of God Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Rex Funeral Home, 308 Market St., Port Royal, with Pastor Bob Drescher officiating. Interment will be in Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
PORT ROYAL - John M. Schlegel, 78, of Port Royal RR3 (Van Dyke), died at 2:05 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at the Locust Grove Retirement Village. Born Feb. 24, 1922, in Rockville, he was a son of the late John and Pearl (Copenhaver) Schlegel. His wife, Maggie J. (Swailes) Schlegel, survives. Also surviving are: children, John E. Schlegel, Thompsontown RR1, Barbara A. Snook, Middleburg, and Karen S. Beasom, McAlisterville RR1; brother and sisters, Carl Schlegel, Thompsontown, Esther Stoner, Mifflintown RR1 and Tressie Whitesel, Mifflin HC 67; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Schlegel. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He worked with the Conrail track department, retiring in February of 1982. He was a member of the Tuscarora Church of the Brethren, the AFL-CIO, and the Crawford-Brubaker VFW Post 5863, Mifflintown. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Guss Funeral Home, 20 South Third St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Charles Sheaffer officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Mifflintown, where military honors will be provided by the Juniata County Veterans Council. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
RICHFIELD - Chester Lee "Chet" Schrader, 36, of Richfield RR2, died at 12:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at the Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. He had been in declining health for several years. Born June 16, 1964, in Sunbury, he was the son of Joanne C. (Longacre) Schrader of Richfield RR2, with whom he lived, and the late James Robert Schrader, who died in 1990. Also surviving are: sisters and brothers, James R. Schrader, Selinsgrove RR1, Steven C. Schrader and Michael A. Schrader, both of Millerstown RR2, Rosetta J. Shellenberger, Lewistown, Mrs. Brian (Emma L.) Beers, Richfield RR2, and Mrs. Daniel (Patricia A.) Yetter, Liverpool RR1; eight nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by one brother, at birth. He received his schooling at the Selinsgrove Center, Selinsgrove and at SUNCOM in Northumberland. He was disabled his entire life and enjoyed car rides, dominos and his ever-present rawhide string. He was Protestant by faith. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills, with Pastor Warren L. Peachey officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Millerstown RR2. Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the services Saturday at the funeral home.
LEWISTOWN - Etta Mae Sconyers, 79, a resident of University Park Nursing Home, State College and formerly of 215 W. Third St., Lewistown, died at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at the nursing Home. Born June 29, 1921, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Etta Mae (Mort) and Samuel K. Earnest Sr. Her husband, William C. Sconyers, preceded her in death in 1979. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Phillip (Janice) Atwood, Saxton River, VT, Eric C. Sconyers, 208 Logan St., Lewistown, Tammy S. Sconyers, West Third Street, Lewistown and Cecil William Sconyers, Albany, GA; a brother and sister, Jacob Earnest, Stuart, FL and Mrs. Woody (Sarah) Fulkroad, Naples, FL; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. She worked as a school bus driver in Florida. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no public viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2040 Linglestown Road, Suite 106, Harrisburg, PA 17011-9568. Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
HAVRE-DEGRACE, Md. - Robert D. Searer, 93, of 105 Hutchins Court, Havre-DeGrace, Md., formerly of 260 W. Fifth St., Lewistown, died at 12:50 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at the Calvert Manor Health Care Center, Rising Sun, Md. Born Feb. 28, 1907, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Homer O. and Rosa E. (Kreps) Searer. His wife, Catherine (Matter) Searer, died Feb. 12, 2000. He is survived by a daughter, Lucille R. Forrest, Havre-DeGrace, Md., five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. He was employed by the American Viscose Corporation for 39 years, retiring in 1968. He was a member of Evangel Baptist Church. Graveside services will be held at noon Monday at Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. There will be no viewing. Family will provide all funeral flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to: Evangel Baptist Church, 375 W. Fifth St, Lewistown, PA 17044. Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
LEWISTOWN - Joyce A. Sebolt, 69, of Rear 510 E. Walnut St., Lewistown, died at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at her residence. Born Aug. 20, 1930, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Victor N. and Sarah (Steele) Sheaffer Sr. Her husband, Gene O. Sebolt, died Feb. 23, 1998. Surviving are: children, Mrs. James (Joy) Klinefelter, Lewistown, Mrs. Norman (Jean Ellen) Hoover and Charles Sebolt, both of Milroy, Mrs. Eric (Rickey Roxanne) Decker, Mechanicsburg, and Kevin Sebolt, Pleasant Gap; a granddaughter, Tina Marie Spicher, whom she raised; brothers and sisters, Victor N. Sheaffer Jr., Harrisburg, William "Bud" Sheaffer, Georgia, Alva Long and Mrs. John (Vicki) Brothers, both of Florida; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Specht and one grandson. She had worked for the Arrow Shirt Factory, the Penns Valley School District, and Nittany Garden Apartments, State College. Services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Wayne Mast officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. MILLERSTOWN - Ronald I. Secrist, 63, of Millerstown, currently residing in Honaman House, Thompsontown, died at 5:50 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg. Born Oct. 20, 1937, in Millerstown, he was the son of the late J. LeRoy and LeeEmma (Ward) Secrist. He is survived by brothers, Wayne L. Secrist, Charlotte, NC and H. David Secrist, Pine Hurst, NC; six nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary W. Secrist. He graduated from Millerstown High School. He retired after being employed for many years at the Pennsylvania State Museum, Harrisburg. He was a member of the Millerstown United Methodist Church. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, Sunbury and High streets, Millerstown, with the Rev. Dr. James R. Behrens and the Rev. Katherine A. Behrens officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Millerstown. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.
