HOLLIDAYSBURG - Shirley M. Smith, 73, formerly of 313 Wayne St., Hollidaysburg, died at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 22, 2000 at Bon Secours-Holy Family Hospital. Born April 10, 1927, in Cambria County, she was a daughter of late James and Anna Viola (Rose) Davidson. Her husband, Delwin Smith of Lewistown, preceded her in death on June 29, 1982. Surviving are: children, Connie Loose of Williamsburg, Scott Smith, Coweta, OK and Timothy Smith, Altoona; sisters, Sarah Mendler, Lewistown and Betty Krantzfelter in Arizona; a brother, William Davidson in Delaware, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Davidson. She had worked as a seamstress at the Saf-T-Bak, Altoona. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Phoenix Volunteer Fire Company. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Simpson-Temple United Parish, Altoona, with the Rev. Denise Arpino officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Sorge Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg.
LEWISTOWN - William A. Smith, 89, of 279 Orchard Grove Ave., Lewistown, died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at his residence. Born July 3, 1911, in Naginey, he was a son of the late David A. and Bessie (Lehman) Smith. His wife, Virginia (Fultz) Smith, died in 1978. Surviving are: daughters, Lois Herbster, Lewistown and Mrs. Terry (Brenda) Carlson, Milroy; a sister, Mildred Hassinger, Yeagertown; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Smith; one granddaughter; three brothers and one sister. He worked at Standard Steel, Beaver Brothers Bakery, and Krentzman's & Sons. He was a life member of Yeagertown Fire Company. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Ralph Wilson officiating. Interment will be held at Birch Hill Cemetery. There will be no viewing. NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - Oneita A. Smyers, 91, of White Oak Manor, North Charleston, S.C., formerly of Mount Union and Reedsville, died at 4:10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at the manor. Born May 29, 1909, in Mount Union, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Virgie (Smith) Shope. Her first husband, George W. Heidler, whom she married in 1925, died in August 1941. Her second husband, Franklin C.S Myers, whom she married in 1944, died in December of 1989. She is survived by a daughter, Bernice M. Fazenbaker, Summerville, S.C.; a sister, Patricia Kemmler, Mount Union; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters Arlene Benkert, Irene Hicks, Banner Shope, Regis Shope, Pauline Shope in infancy, and William Shope in infancy. She retired in 1973 from Arrow Shirt Factory, Lewistown, where she worked from 1949-1973. She had also worked at the L. Grief Brothers Manufacturing Plant, Mount Union. She was a Baptist by faith. She was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America; the Order of Eastern Star, Lewistown Chapter; and the Women's 20th Century Club, Mount Union. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. David Ford officiating. Interment will be in Mount Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home.
YEAGERTOWN - Edward M. Snook Jr., 66, of 215 S. Main St., Yeagertown, died at 5:08 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at Hershey Medical Center. Born April 15, 1934, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Hazel Madora (Heimbaugh) and Edward M. Snook Sr. His wife, Mildred M. (Hassinger) Snook, whom he married Oct. 2, 1952, survives. Also surviving are: Rick L. Snook and Randall E. Snook, both of California, Penny M. Isenberg, Yeagertown, and Jeannie M. Bush, Burnham; brothers and sisters, Shirley Aumiller, Milroy, Judy Bailey, Gains, and M. Kay Stipcich, Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin Snook on Jan. 28, 1969, and Lee Mervin Snook on Feb. 4, 1993. He had been a welder on the Minuteman Missiles, Helena, Mont., and later a truck driver for Jay-Wood, Milroy. He retired on disability in 1972. He attended the Lewistown Assembly of God Church. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Bohn Funeral Home, 55 N. Main St., Reedsville with Rev. Harold N. Imes officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 9 S. Dorcas St, Lewistown, PA 17044.
MILROY - Glenn D. Snook, 81, of 3518 New Lancaster Valley Road, Milroy, died at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at the Malta Home, Granville. Born Jan. 21, 1919, in Milroy, he was a son of the late Walter B. and Maggie Gertrude (Johnson) Snook. His wife, Vivian I. (Holt) Snook, died Nov. 6, 1994. He is survived by a son, Paul J. Snook of Lewistown and a brother, Kenneth Snook of Granville. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. He was a 1937 graduate of Milroy High School and a graduate of Army Command and General Staff College. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Army in 1966 with 26 years of service. He served with the 11th Airborne Division in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. After the war, he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division. He also served with the 25th Division in Korea; served in Germany with the Southern Area Command; served in Ethiopia as Chief of Staff of the Military Advisory Group; served as Inspector General of the New England Area Command; and he had 368 parachute jumps. He also worked 16 years with the Pennsylvania State Parks. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with Marshall Deckard officiating. Interment will be in New Lancaster Valley Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 26 N. REEDSVILLE - Ivy M. Snook, 79, of 715 Honey Creek Road, Reedsville, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Outlook Pointe Commons, Reedsville. Born Nov. 10, 1920, in Siglerville, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Solomon and Sylvia Eddessa (Reed) Brittain. Her husband, Warren I. Snook, died Nov. 23, 1980. Surviving are: a daughter, Judy Ann Mace, Temple; a son, Leonard H. Snook, Reedsville; sisters and brother, Mrs. Boyd (Lavenia) Hostetler, Uniontown, Mrs. James (Selma) Jackson and Mrs. Raymond (Shirley) Lewis, both of Reedsville, Mrs. William (Ethel) Pecht, McVeytown, and Gerald R. Brittain, Milroy; three granddaughters and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey A. Brittain and Thomas M. Brittain and two infant sisters, Rosalie Brittain and Mary Brittain. She was employed at Arrow Shirt Factory, Lewistown, retiring Jan. 1, 1982 after 30 years of service. She was a member of White Memorial Congregational Church, Siglerville. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with the Rev. James A. Yoder officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to HOSPICE: The Bridge, 1126 W. LEWISTOWN - Shirley A. Snook, 62, of 625 Valley St., Lewistown, died at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2000, at her residence. Born May 17, 1938, in Maitland, she was a daughter of the late Clara (VanOrner) Stine and step-father Clarence Stine. Her husband, Raymond Snook, whom she married in 1975, survives. Also surviving are: daughters, Mrs. Abdelazim (Mary) Sayed, Hanover, Mrs. Harry (Debbie) Harmon, Lewistown and Mrs. Matthew (Linda) Byler, Maitland; a brother, Aaron Stine of Georgia; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, William Myers, and by four brothers. She worked as a seamstress. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown with the Rev. Marlin Speckler officiating. Interment will be private. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. The family will provided all flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to HOSPICE: the Bridge, 1126 W. FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Wilbur H. Snook Jr., 73, of 8104 Bridgeway Circle, Fort Wayne, Ind., formerly of Milroy, died at Monday, July 10, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind. Born Oct. 21, 1926, in Milroy, he was a son of the late Wilbur Herman and Mary Martha (McCool) Snook. His wife, Doris J. (Sparks) Snook, survives. Also surviving are: children, Lori A. Vandergriff, Fort Wayne, Ind. and Michael John Snook, Walton, Ind.; brothers, Dick Snook, Shippensburg, Jim Snook, Darlington, N.C., John Snook, Lewistown, and Roy Snook, Hooker, Okla.; sisters, Martha Fultz, Harrisburg, Mary Gibboney, Linda Miller, June Moore and Evelyn Snook, all of Milroy, Eileen Noll, Hooker, Okla., Grace Wagner and Kay Wagner, both of Belleville; and two granddaughters. He was preceded in death by sisters, Iris Louise Snook and Sarah Damancantonio. He was retired from the United States Air Force in 1973, and had served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of First Christian Church, Fort Wayne, Ind. He was also a member of Walton Christian Church, Walton, Ind., where he was a member of the Sunday school, a deacon, and helped with the Vacation Bible School and the Food Pantry. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 296 and active in Boy Scout Troop 250, Walton, Ind. He was an avid reader of American history, especially the Civil War era, loved bluegrass music and played guitar and banjo. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church, 4800 S. Calhoun St., Fort Wayne, Ind. and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Walton Christian Church, 301 W.
