ORLANDO, Fla. - William Nelson Snook Sr., 83, of 29th Street, Orlando, Fla., died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, in Orlando, Fla. Born Dec. 26, 1916, in Burnham, he was a son of the late John David and Ruth (Leeper) Snook. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna R. (Cochran) Snook, who died in May 1982. Surviving are: a son, William N. Snook Jr., Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Holly Lightner, Lake Isabella, Calif.; and three grandchildren. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a manager for Nationwide Insurance Agency in Juniata and Perry counties, retiring to Sun City, Fla., in 1977. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. There will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to the House of Hope, 2020 36th St., Orlando, FL 32839. The National Cremation Society Beacon Chapter-Winter Park, Orlando, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
MIDDLEBURG - Wilmer A. Snook, 86, of Middleburg, died at 11:10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. Born on Nov. 29, 1913, in West Beaver Township, Snyder County, he was a son of the late Irvin and Orpha (Lose) Snook. His wife, Ida Grace Schrader, whom he married April 16, 1938, survives. Also surviving are: three daughters, Mrs. David (Judy) Kuhns, Winfield RR2, Mrs. Roger (Margie) Mitchell, Mechanicsburg, and Mrs. Ed (Carole) Bendick, Winfield; three sisters, Anna Mae Knepp, Selinsgrove, Mary Ellen Mitchell, Harrisburg, and Thelma Knepp, Paoli; a brother, Dallas Snook, Middleburg; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Todd Kuhns, two sisters, Dorothy Aumiller and Mildred Bailey, and seven brothers, Arthur, John, Harry, Paul, Stanford, Gordon and Clair Snook. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Beaver Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Stanley D. Reep officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Beavertown. Family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until the time of services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Beaver Lutheran Church, Beaver Springs, PA 17812.
RICHFIELD - Bernice R. Snyder, 80, formerly of Richfield, died at 9:15 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at Albright Care Services, Riverwoods, Lewisburg. Born April 24, 1920, in Richfield, she was a daughter of the late Paul S. and Flora I. (Graybill) Pellman. Her husband, the Rev. Paul E. Snyder, whom she married Oct. 7, 1939, died Dec. 1, 1996. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Robert (Kathryn "Kitty") Dunn, Richfield, Mrs. Bill (Carole) Davis, Dillsburg and Glenn Snyder, Northumberland; a sister and brother, Marian Shirk, Richfield and the Rev. Donald G. Pellman, Bloomsburg; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Pellman. She attended Crossroads Grammar School, Richfield. She was employed as a waitress at Mengel's Restaurant, Richfield in the 50's, then later at Donges Restaurant, Meyersdale. She was also a bookkeeper for Berry's Well Drilling, Berlin and then as a homemaker. She was a member of Brown's United Methodist Church, McAlisterville RR2. She had been a member of the church in Maze, where she had been the church pianist, for years. She accompanied her husband during his ministry and sang with him at various functions. She enjoyed putting puzzles together and reading. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Brown's United Methodist Church, McAlisterville RR2, with the Rev. Ronald E. Landis officiating. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery, Mifflintown. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Thursday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, where the family will be present to receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: Brown's United Methodist Church, RR2, Box 2395, McAlisterville, PA 17049.
COHUTTA, GA - Elsie May Snyder, 70, of Cohutta, GA, formerly of Melbourne, FL, and Lewistown, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at her residence after a prolonged illness. Born May 15, 1930, in Wagner, she was a daughter of the late Julia Spigelmyer. Her husband, Robert L. Snyder, preceded her in death. Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Connie) Winter of Cohutta, GA and Mrs. Atul (Susan) Modi of Brandon, FL; six grandchildren; and special caregivers, Joan and Norm Fleet of Dalton, GA. She was employed by Eckard Drug Store in Florida. She was a member of the Mifflin County Historical Society and was especially interested in genealogy. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Love Funeral Home, Dalton, GA, with the Rev. Jim Burgess officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Mt. Rock Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home. The family requests flowers to be omitted, but memorial contributions to be made to Fellowship Bible Church Building Fund, 2044 Dug Gap Road, Dalton, GA 30720 or to the A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig's Disease) Support Group, 3641-C, West Kennedy Blvd., Tampa, FL 33609.
STATE COLLEGE - Mary C. Smith Snyder, 61, of State College, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at the Hershey Medical Center. Born in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Harry G. and Anna B. (Weaver) Smith. Her husband, Millard Snyder, preceded her in death. Surviving are: a daughter, Susan A. Stull, Vesuvius, Va. and a son, Dana Snyder, Gaston, SC; sisters and brothers, Shirley L. Addleman, State College, Martha J. Snyder and Harold Smith Jr., both of Bellefonte, Grace A. Fultz, Spring Mills, and Clair E. Smith, Milroy; two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Centre Hall Mountain Church. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the Centre Hall Mountain Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local chapter of the American Cancer Society. Hoover Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., Hershey is in charge of arrangements.
QUARRYVILLE - Thomas L. Snyder, 53, of 1304 Lancaster Pike, Quarryville, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Hershey Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Born Jan. 29, 1947, in Bratton Township, Mifflin County, he was the son of Walter J. and Catharine (Renninger) Snyder of McVeytown. His wife, Doris (Kreider) Snyder, survives. Also surviving are: sons, Tony L. Snyder, Marietta, Terry L. Snyder, Pittsburgh, and Troy L. Snyder, Mt. Joy; brothers, William R. Snyder, Pine Glen, W. James Snyder Jr., Pickerington, Ohio, John E. Snyder and Mark D. Snyder, both of McVeytown; sister, Mrs. Rick (Sarah C.) Esh, Lewistown; and two granddaughters. He was a partner in K & S Inc., an agribusiness in Quarryville. He was a member of the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren and attended Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren, Quarryville. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of Camp Scyoc, Licking Creek. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren, 1392 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, with Pastor Tom Deal officiating. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no public viewing but family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Reynolds Funeral Home, 144 E. State St., Quarryville and from 2 p.m. until the time of the services Sunday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren, 61 Pine Glen Road, Lewistown, PA 17044 or to the Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren, 1392 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, PA 17566.
SELINSGROVE - Charles H. "Chick" Soder, 68, of North Front Street, Selinsgrove, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at his residence. Born April 6, 1932, in Richfield, he was the son of the late S. James and Catherine (Shellenberger) Soder. He is survived by his companion, Mildred "Millie" R. Nicola. Also surviving are: children, Jeffrey A. Soder and Andrew W. Soder, both of Tyrone and Dawn P. Bergstresser, Lewisburg; sisters, Lydia Ann Long, Selinsgrove and Emily Neitz, Port Trevorton; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Soder; brothers and sister, Russell A. Soder, George A. Soder, James E. Soder and Wilhelmina Oxenreiter. He attended Juniata County schools and was a 1950 graduate of Fayette High School. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and served with the 307th Bomb Wing. He worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator and also for 15 years at the West Side Cemetery. More recently, he was employed in the garden center at Walmart in Selinsgrove. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the V. L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, with the Rev. Robert G. Kidd officiating. Interment will be in the Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
MCALISTERVILLE - Mary E. Soder, 85, of McAlisterville, died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at her home. Born Aug. 16, 1915, in McAlisterville, she was the daughter of the late Charles R. and Mary E. (McAlister) Soder. She is survived by: three nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by brothers and sister, John A. Soder, S. James Soder, Robert E. Soder, and Kathryn Soder Pyle. She graduated from Fayette High School, McAlisterville. She was employed as a telephone operator for United Telephone Company, McAlisterville and for the Selinsgrove Center, Selinsgrove. She was a member of the Lost Creek Presbyterian Church, McAlisterville. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lost Creek Presbyterian Church, McAlisterville, with the Rev. Graham C. Fowler officiating. Interment will be in the Lost Creek Presbyterian Cemetery, McAlisterville. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Friday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, where the family will be present 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Cancer Society, Mifflin/Juniata Unit, 26 N.
