LEWISTOWN - Jacob Paul Shearer, 63, 729 W. Fifth St., Lewistown, died at 6:25 a.m. Friday, July 14, 2000, at his residence. Born March 16, 1937 in Spruce Hill, Juniata County, he was the son of the late Arthur and Mildred (Grose) Shearer. His wife Norma (Davis) Shearer, whom he married Dec. 19, 1959, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Mark (Ruth) Eddy, Lewistown and Paul D. Shearer, Lewistown; a brother, Samuel Shearer, Burlington, Vt.; sisters, Mrs. Herbert (Ruth) Loucks, New Cumberland and Mrs. Charles (Mary) Schubert, Camp Hill; and five grandchildren. He was a member of the United States Army, having served from 1959 to 1962. He was employed as a maintenance mechanic for the Mifflin County School District, retiring in 1999. He was a member of Calvary Bible Church, Lewistown. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Evan Iacoboni officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown.
LEWISTOWN - George E. Shehan, 77, of 129 Nolan Drive, Lewistown, died at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital. Born July 5, 1923, in Mifflin County, he was a son of the late James and Sarah (Rowe) Shehan. His first wife, Patricia J. (Nolan) Shehan, died July 12, 1969. His second wife, Arlene (Deamer) Shehan, whom he married June 28, 1972, survives. Also surviving are: children, Constance L. Shehan and Mrs. Mel (Kay) Shehan Hughes, both of Gainesville, Fla., Mrs. John (Susan M.) Goss DeArmitt Jr., Boalsburg, and Polly A. (Goss) Bayerl, Lewisburg; sister and brother, Frances J. Goss, Lewistown and John Shehan, McClure. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 2nd Calvary and was awarded a Bronze Star. He was a self-employed builder contractor. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Lewistown. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Jeffrey D. McCleary officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the First Baptist Church, 111 E. Third St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
LEWISTOWN - Elizabeth J. "Betty" Shellenberger, 88, of 6 Kelly Drive, Lewistown, died at 4:07 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn. Born June 10, 1912, in Reedsville, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Mary B. (Himes) Kuhn. Her husband, Earl Shellenberger, whom she married June 10, 1935, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Donald (Linda) Mast, Lancaster and E. Ronald Shellenberger, Chambersburg; stepbrothers and stepsisters, Merle Stine, Mechanicsburg, Clarence Stine, Middletown, Melvin Stine, Alaska, Katherine Cree, Arizona, and Jay Stine, Kentucky; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters, a half-brother, and an infant daughter. She was a housewife. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lewistown, the Lewistown Hospital Auxiliary, the Women's Society Galilee Shrine 30, the Centre Union Homemakers, and the Order of the Eastern Star 283, Lewistown. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. David Schmuck and the Rev. Richard Swartz officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
BURNHAM - James M. Shemory Jr., 60, of 203 Fifth Ave., Burnham, died at 1:45 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2000, at his residence. Born July 3, 1940 in Lewistown, he was a son of the late James M. and Winifred V. (Wray) Shemory Sr. His wife Ilona J. "Sam" (Marshall) Shemory, whom he married Feb. 4, 1999, survives. Also surviving are: children; James M. Shemory III, in the military in Sicily, Italy and Melissa L. Orth, 424 S. Wayne St., Lewistown, brothers and sisters; Mrs. Donald (Dorothy L.) James, 218 Bratton Ave., Lewistown, Helen Metzger, Fort Myers, Fla. and Mrs. C. Earl (Anna Mary) Johnston, 245 Loop Road, Lewistown, one grandchild and six step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son and son, Sean Shemory. He served in the United States Marine Corp. He was a crane operator at Standard Steel, Burnham for 35 years. He was a member of Granville United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Lewistown Moose Lodge No. 143, the American Legion Post No. 90, VFW Post 7011, and he was also a member of City Hook and Ladder No. 14, Fame Fire Co. No. 2, Brooklyn Hose Co. No. 3 and Yeagertown Fire Co. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. William Danis officiating. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery, Burnham. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to HOSPICE: The Bridge, 1126 W. LEWISTOWN - Miriam R. Sherlock, 79, of Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, Lewistown, formerly of 3398 Route 103 N, Lewistown, died at 4:25 a.m., Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at the nursing home. Born Feb. 19, 1921, in Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late John M. and Anne (Rowe) Goss. Her husband, Kenneth B. Sherlock, preceded her in death Jan. 8, 1976. Surviving are: children, Kenneth B. Sherlock Jr., Gregory E. Sherlock, Jack L. Sherlock and Mrs. Miles (Annette) Crownover, all of Lewistown, and Douglas D. Sherlock, Belleville; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis R. Sherlock, a brother, Robert Goss, and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth. She worked for the Beacon Lodge Camp for the Blind and Yohn's Convalescent Home. She retired from housekeeping at the Holiday Inn, Burnham, in 1983. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Geoff Huish officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
OAKLAND MILLS - Carolyn W. Shertzer, 19, of Oakland Mills, died of natural causes Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at her home. Born Oct. 5, 1981, in Manheim, Lancaster County, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Ruth S. (Weaver) Shertzer of Oakland Mills. Also surviving are: brothers and sister, Nathan W. Shertzer, Benjamin E. Shertzer, and Eunice E. Shertzer, all at home; paternal grandparents, Benjamin and Edith Shertzer of Millersville; and maternal grandparents, John and Annie Weaver of Morgantown. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, Mervin R. Shertzer, Melvin W. Shertzer, and Sharon L. Shertzer. She attended Goodwill Mennonite School, Thompsontown and was a member of the Goodwill Mennonite Church, Thompsontown. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Goodwill Mennonite Church, Thompsontown RR1. Interment will be in Goodwill Mennonite Cemetery. OAKLAND MILLS - Sharon L. Shertzer, 9, of Oakland Mills, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, of natural causes. Born Jan. 25, 1991, in Juniata County, she was the daughter of Benjamin N. and Ruth S. (Weaver) Shertzer of Oakland Mills. Also surviving are: two brothers and two sisters, Nathan W. Shertzer, Benjamin E. Shertzer, Eunice E. Shertzer, and Carolyn W. Shertzer, all at home; paternal grandparents, Benjamin and Edith Shertzer, Millersville; and maternal grandparents, John and Annie Weaver of Manheim. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Mervin R. Shertzer and Melvin W. Shertzer. She attended Goodwill Mennonite School and Goodwill Mennonite Church, Thompsontown. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Goodwill Mennonite Church, Thompsontown. Interment will be in the Goodwill Mennonite Cemetery. Family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today and Friday following the service at the church. The family requests that there be no flowers. The Andrew T. NEW CUMBERLAND - John E. Shilling Sr., 64, formerly of New Cumberland, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at Manor Care, Carlisle. Born Aug. 8, 1936, in Mifflintown, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Agnes F. (Rowe) Shilling. His wife, Joanna P. (Slemons) Shilling, preceded him in death. Surviving are: children, John E. Shilling Jr., Grand Blanc, Miss. and Virona G. Rowe, New Cumberland; brothers and sister, Paul H. Shilling, Ladson, SC, Karl F. Shilling, Milroy, Charles E. Shilling, Lewistown, and Phyllis F. Migliore, Allentown; and five grandchildren. He was a former employee of PPG Industries, Mount Holly Springs. He attended Enola First Church of God. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland, with the Rev. Valentine H. Derr officiating. Interment will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Township. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.
