LEWISTOWN - Connie A. Smith, 63, of 123 Chestnut St., Lewistown, died at 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born June 4, 1937, in Reedsville, she was the daughter of the late James M. and Dorothy (Fultz) Reigle. Her husband, Robert A. Smith, died Dec. 12, 1998. Surviving are: a son, C. Rick Sunday, Bay St. Louis, Mo.; stepdaughter, Deborah Felmlee, Valley Street, Lewistown; brothers and sisters, Donald M. Reigle and Charles Reigle, both of Reedsville, Phyllis M. Rhoades, Milroy and Patsy Bender, Lewistown; one granddaughter and three step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Alan Sunday in 1957; one brother; and an aunt and uncle, Charles and Alma Freed, who raised her. She was an assembler at Sanyo for 20 years and retired from United Commercial Travelers in 1999. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown, with the Rev. Daniel Neff officiating. There will be no public viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044. Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
LEWISTOWN - Emma M. Smith, 77, of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, formerly of 404 S. Brown St., Lewistown, died at 1:07 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, 2000 at the nursing home. Born Sept. 16, 1923 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of late William Henry and Carrie (Page) Smith. She is survived by a niece. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two sisters, Winifred Selden and Erna Smith, a twin sister, and by one brother, Homer "Bud" Smith. She was a retired housekeeper. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Lewistown. She had also attended Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, Mifflintown RR4. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Newport Cemetery, Newport. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 384 S. Main St., Lewistown, PA 17044 or to the Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, RR4, Box 4715 Mifflintown, PA 17059. The Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal is in charge of the arrangements.
SMYRNA, Del. - Ray E. "Dick" Tallon, 70, of Smyrna, Del., formerly of Holmes, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at his home. Born Feb. 13, 1930, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Emanuel and Louise (Snyder) Tallon. His wife of 47 years, Patricia (Riley) Tallon, survives. Also surviving are: children, Rodney L. Tallon, Smyrna, Del., Linda R. Tallon, Media, Brenda K. Lohr and Lisa A. Anderson, both of Holmes; a brother Robert F. Tallon, Centre Hall; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a machinist for Eastman Kodak, Rochester, NY for 10 years, retiring in 1992. He also worked for Sun Shipbuilding and Drydock, Chester and Baldwin-Lima Hamilton Locomotive Co., Eddystone. He was a member of VFW 9483, Webster, NY. Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park. Interment will be private. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until the time of the services Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: Delaware Hospice, 911 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
LEWISTOWN - David L. Tate, 68, of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, 163 Summit Drive, Lewistown, died at 8:37 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn. Born Dec. 3, 1931, in Burnham, he was a son of the late Leroy and Pauline (Logan) Tate. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by a sister. He attended Lewistown and Yeagertown schools. He worked as a custodian at the Inn Town Motor Lodge, Reading. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Burnham. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Juniata Memorial Park with the Rev. Gregory T. Allen officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. There will be no public viewing. MILLERSTOWN - Palmer R. "Goof" Taylor, 75, of Millerstown RR1, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at the Carlisle Hospital. Born Dec. 26, 1924, in Millerstown, he was the son of the late Frank and Marret Mae (Swartz) Taylor. His first wife, Dora May Taylor, preceded him in death. His second wife, Ida (Shafer) Taylor, survives. Also surviving are: sons, Palmer L. Taylor, at home, James Whitesel and George Edward Taylor, both of Lewistown, and David Ray Welsh; stepchildren, Harold Strunk Sr, Mannsville, Frank Holliday, Havelock, NC, Mary Wagner, Newport, Geraldine Shelley, Harrisburg, Betty James, Middletown, Elizabeth Hair, Liverpool, Nancy Rhoades, Annville, Mary Anspock, Pulaski, Tenn., Teresia Radle, Almelia, Va., and Audrey Spotts, Thomasville; brothers and sisters, Roscoe Taylor, Mount Pleasant Mills, Cloyd Taylor and Thelma Reisinger, both of Ickesburg, Howard Taylor, Dornsfife, Margretha Howell, Newport, and Alda Hawkens, Yackama, Wash.; 40 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. He was retired from the former John Kerr Building Contractor Company. He was a member of the Millerstown Moose Lodge 925. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the David Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. George Smith officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Millerstown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
DRY RUN - Beulah M. Thatcher, 95, a resident of the Aprontree Nursing Home, Dry Run, formerly of East Waterford RR1 (Cross Keys), died at 10:36 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born Nov. 13, 1905, in Lack Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late George and Lottie (Pyles) Henry. Her husband, Herman M. Thatcher, died Sept. 12, 1986. Surviving are: two sons, Leroy Thatcher, Lake Orion, Mich. and Brooks Thatcher, Spring Run; a sister, Mary Briggs, Dry Run; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters, one grandchild, and four great-grandchildren. She was a member of Cross Keys United Methodist Church and the Eveready Sunday School Class of the Church. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove, with Pastor Don Walters officiating. Interment will be in the East Waterford Cemetery. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present 7- 9 p.m.
BURNHAM - Anna Dale Thomas, 83, of Open Hearth Manor, Burnham, died at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at Valley View Retirement Community, Belleville. Born Jan. 16, 1917, in St. Joseph, Mo., she was a daughter of the late Dale and Josephine (Stephens) Reno. Her husband, Edwin W. Thomas, died Nov. 16, 1973. She is survived by a number of cousins and four step-grandchildren. Early in life, she was an accounting business person in Detroit, Miami and New York City. She later was a community volunteer and prominent social figure in the Lewistown area. She was a member of the Lewistown Hospital Auxiliary and the Lewistown Garden Club. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Gerald A. Krum officiating. Private interment will be in Downer Methodist Cemetery, Downer, N. J. There will be no public viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to Valley View Retirement Community, 4702 E. Main St., Belleville, PA 17004 or to Lewistown Hospital Auxiliary, c/o Lewistown Hospital, 400 Highland Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044.
BEAVERTOWN - Arietta E. Thomas, 86, of Beavertown, died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at Rolling Hills Manor, Millmont, where she had been a resident since 1995. Born May 8, 1914, in Middleburg, she was a daughter of the late Warren and Nettie (Musser) Ernest. Her husband, Lester Thomas, whom she married in 1953, died Jan. 18, 1972. Surviving are: a daughter, Virginia "Ginny" Layton, West Milton; three sisters, Ethel Hook and Anna Spicher, both of Middleburg and Doris Thompson, Liverpool; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Hare in 1948; two brothers, Russell and Charles Ernest; and two sisters, Laura Knepp and Grace Boyer. She retired in 1981 from the Selinsgrove State School, where she had worked in food service for 11 years. She was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Chapter 910, Milton. She enjoyed flowers and dancing. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2 at the Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, with the Rev. Thomas Schroeder officiating. Interment will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Beavertown. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will be present 7-9 p.m.
