Harold L. "Pete" Arentz LEWISTOWN - Harold L. "Pete" Arentz, 73, of 852 E. Walnut St., Lewistown, died at 7 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Nov. 29, 1927 in Hawstone, Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Harry and Rosa K. (Bailor) Arentz. His wife, Dorothy A. (Kuhns) Arentz, died May 27, 1999. Surviving are: children, William R. Ritter, Tipton, IN, Dottie Myers, 31 Big Ridge Rd., Lewistown, Lee Michaels, Colorado Springs, CO, and Phyllis L. Moyer, 59 Woodlawn Avenue, Milroy; brothers and sisters, Lillie Leeper, Stine Drive, Lewistown, Lois E. Hower, Parkview, Lewistown, and Harry Arentz, Harvard Street, Lewistown; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Harold L. Arentz Jr., in 1987, and three sisters. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam, retiring in 1968 after 20 years. He was commander of V.F.W. Post 7011, Lewistown, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 13, Lewistown. He was a lieutenant in the Honor Guard. He was a protestant by faith. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville, with the Rev. Roger R. Reece and the Rev. Ralph H. Wilson officiating. Graveside military services will be conducted by V.F.W. Post 7011, Lewistown. There is no viewing. The Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions can be made to V.F.W. Post 7011, 12 Chestnut St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL - Joan A. "Joanie" Alexander, 76, of St. Petersburg, FL, formerly of Lewistown, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Joseph W. "Joe" Alexander. Also surviving are: children, Kathi Kirby and David Alexander, both of St. Petersburg, FL; a sister, Jane DeWitt, St. Petersburg, FL; and one granddaughter. She was a 1942 graduate of Lewistown High School. She retired after 33 years as a Linotype operator for the St. Petersburg Times and also worked for Hall's Wholesale Florist. She was a member of North East Park Baptist Church. Services were held at the Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes & Cremation Tribute Center, 2201 Ninth St. North, St. Petersburg, FL. Entombment was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
KYLERTOWN - Elizabeth M. Almgren, 93, of Kylertown, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Philipsburg Area Hospital, Philipsburg. Born Oct. 27, 1907, in Patton, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Bertha M. (Chapman) Morgan. Her husband, Paul G. Almgren of Kylertown, whom she married April 28, 1941, survives. Also surviving are: children, Margie Martin, Lanse, Paul Dean Almgren, Newark, Del. and Clarence Records, Wilmington, Del.; sisters and brothers, Ida Smith and Jessie Conaway, both of Lewistown, Melvin Morgan, Clearfield and Richard Morgan, Valrico, Fla.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Morgan and Edward Morgan. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Morrisdale. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, (Forest RR) Morrisdale, with the Rev. Norman L. Marden officiating. Interment will be in Grassflat-Lanse Lutheran Cemetery, Grassflat. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Johnson Funeral Home, Route 53, Grassflat and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church. MIFFLINTOWN - Mary K. Amey, 93, formerly of HCR 63 of Richfield, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Brookline Manor, RR1 Mifflintown. Born Oct. 4, 1907, in West Perry Township, Snyder County, she was the daughter of the later Samuel and Grace (Shirk) Leitzel. Her husband, Steril E. Amey, died on June 20, 1995. She is survived by: a daughter, Twila Baker of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Geraldine Arbogast of Mount Pleasant Mills; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: brothers, Shirk, Robert, Ernest and Nobel; sisters, Olive Hornberger, Agnes Fisher and Ethel Earnest. She was a former employee of Shellenberger Shirt Factory, Richfield. She was a member of Richfield Mennonite Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed reading and gardening. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Richfield Mennonite Church with Pastor Jerry R. O'Connell officiating. Interment will be in Richfield Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 7-9 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mission Fund of Richfield Mennonite Church, RR1 Box 11, Richfield, PA 17086. The George P. Garman Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant Mills is in charge of arrangements.
TOPTON - Frances L. (Leister) Amspacker, 78, of Tipton, and formerly of New Tripoli, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at the Lutheran Home at Topton. Born in Vira, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Hattie (Henry) Leister. Her husband, Arthur A. Amspacker, preceded her in death. Surviving are: a son, Arick Amspacker, Bethlehem, daughters, Anita Greenfield, San Jose, CA, Alana DeWitt, Dover, NH, and Andra Hausman, New Tripoli; brothers, Brice Leister, Lewistown, and Clifford Leister, Manheim, sisters, Sylvia Harper, Lewistown, Florence Goss, Centre Hall, Verna Laub, Lewistown; and six grandchildren. She co-owned 3-A Ceramics with her husband for 25 years in New Smithsville before retiring in 1995. She was of the Lutheran Faith and a member of the Eastern Star in Kutztown. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Monday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements by Keller Funeral Home, Fogelsville.
BEAVERTOWN - Daniel Mario "Deno" Annechino, 78, of Beavertown, died at 10 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2001, after a brief illness. Born July 23, 1922, in Rochester, NY, he was a son of the late Daniel and Elizabeth (Marcucci) Annechino. Florence (Moyer) Folk, his companion of many years, survives. He is also survived by two sons, John Annechino and Scott Annechino, both of Rochester, NY; two sisters and four brothers, Marion Fazero, Helen Distaffen, Arthur Annechino, Richard Annechino, John Annechino and Edward Annechino, all of Rochester, NY; four stepchildren, Cindy Ammerman, Debra Long, Craig Folk and David Folk; and one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by 15 brothers and sisters. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He retired from the Teamsters Union, after 30 years as a truck driver. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Beavertown. He enjoyed helping at the Rescue Hose Fire Company, Beavertown. Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Beavertown, with the Rev. Michael Watson officiating. Family will receive friends 2:30 p.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to: SUN Home Hospice, 61 N. Duke St., Sunbury, PA 17801. Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, is in charge of arrangements.
MT. PLEASANT MILLS - G. Edgar "Ed" Arbogast, 78, of RR1, Mt. Pleasant Mills, died at 12:40 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at the Penn Lutheran Village Nursing Center, Selinsgrove. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Mt. Pleasant Mills, with the Rev. Andrew C. Weaver officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran and Reformed Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the church.
PORTAGE, Ind. - David L. Armstrong, 71, of Portage, Ind., died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at his residence. Born July 5, 1929, in Milroy, he was the son of the late Lewis Carl and Hattie Sarah (Hackett) Armstrong. His wife, Mary Ann (Schramm) Armstrong, whom he married Feb. 12, 1972 in Portage, Ind., survives. Also surviving are: children, David L. Armstrong II, Chesterton, Ind., Douglas L. Armstrong and Mrs. Van (Suzanne R.) Tuley, both of Portage, Ind., Robert D. Armstrong, Mrs. Charles (Teresa) Fawley, Rhonda S. Armstrong, and Jill E. Armstrong, all of Michigan City, Ind.; brother and sisters, Eugene Armstrong, Spruce Hill, Pauline Bamford, Pearl Bodtorf, Betty Shank, and Mrs. Sam (Joyce) Rocco, all of Lewistown; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by brothers and sister, Crawford Armstrong, Charles Armstrong, and Violet Armstrong; a half-brother, Carl Armstrong; and one grandson, David Armstrong III. He served in the United States Air Force. He was a superintendent in the roll shop of Midwest Steel. He was a member of the Nativity of Our Savior Parish and the Retirees Club of Midwest Steel. Services were held at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage, Ind., with the Rev. Father Patrick Kalich officiating. Interment was in Heritage Cemetery, Portage, Ind. Memorial contributions may be made to: the VNA Hospice of Porter County, 501 Marquette St., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
