RICHFIELD - Agnes Mae Arndt, 70, of Richfield RR1, died at 12:35 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at the Sunbury Community Hospital. Born Aug. 9, 1931, in West Perry Township, Snyder County, she was the daughter of the late Edgar S. and Clare (Graybill) Shirk. Her husband, James R. Arndt, whom she married March 30, 1952, died Feb. 10, 1998. Surviving are: children, Shawn R. Arndt, HCR 72, Richfield, Darryl V. Arndt, Selinsgrove, Carolyn M. Arndt, Mount Pleasant Mills and Fawn A. Arndt, Richfield, RR1; brother and sister, Herman R. Shirk, Selinsgrove and Florence A. Lyter, Liverpool RR1; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy P. Shirk, Raymond E. Shirk and H. Blaine Shirk. She was a 1949 graduate of the former Fayette High School, McAlisterville. She received her cosmetology license from the Empire Beauty School, Sunbury and operated Agnes Mae Arndt's Beauty Shop from her home. She was also employed at various local garment factories as a seamstress. She attended the Richfield United Church of Christ, Richfield. She was a life member of the Snyder County Historical Society, a member of the Richfield Fire Company and the ladies auxiliary, the Richfield Ambulance League and the American Association of Retired Persons. She enjoyed camping, cooking, baking and was an accomplished seamstress. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills, with the Rev. George W. Henry officiating. Interment will be in the Richfield Union Cemetery. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
MCALISTERVILLE - Edna C. Arnold, 82, a resident of the Malta Home, Granville, formerly of McAlisterville, died at 10:40 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born March 28, 1918, in Monroe Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Banks R. and Celia P. (Strawser) Naylor. Her husband, Raymond S. Arnold of Malta Home, Granville, whom she married Dec. 3, 1938, survives. Surviving are: sons, Paul A. Arnold, Cocolamus and Dale R. Arnold, McAlisterville; sisters, Dorothy Arnold, Althea Smith, and Evelyn Varner, all of McAlisterville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Fred I. Arnold and brother and sisters, Robert Naylor, Florence Graybill, Jennie Ehrenzellers, Elsie Stroup and Dora Elsasser. She attended Stoney Run School, where she played in Swartz's Band. She was a homemaker and had been employed as folder for L. Shellenberger & Sons Shirt Factory, East Salem for 25 years. She was a member of Brown's United Methodist Church, McAlisterville RR2 and the Missionary Society and the Ladies Auxiliary of the church. She enjoyed crocheting, playing clarinet, guitar, piano, and telling stories. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. Ronald E. Landis officiating. Interment will be in East Salem Cemetery, Thompsontown RR1. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will be present 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Diabetes Association, 2040 Linglestown Road, Suite 106, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
RICHFIELD - Esther May Arnold, 70, of Richfield, died at 4:09 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001, at her home. Born May 7, 1930, in West Perry Township, Snyder County, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Nettie B. (Shellenberger) Leitzel. Her husband, Melvin E. Arnold, whom she married March 7, 1952, survives. Also surviving are: three sons, Stephen W. Arnold, Austin, AR, David H. Arnold, Millerstown RR2 and Philip E. Arnold, Richfield RR1; a daughter: Mrs. Gregory (Deborah L.) Shambach, Middleburg; four brothers, Roy E. Leitzel, Percy S. Leitzel and Albert Leitzel, all of Richfield and Lester L. Leitzel, of McAlisterville; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, William H. Leitzel, Ralph E. Leitzel, Beatrice A. Hassinger, Ruth A. Strawser, two brothers and two sisters in infancy. She attended Cherry Hill Grammar School, Evendale. She was employed as a seamstress at the Richfield Shirt Factory for 30 years. She was a member of the Richfield Mennonite Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class No. 2. She was also a member of the Richfield Ambulance League. She enjoyed quilting, cooking and flowers. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Richfield Mennonite Church, with Pastor Jerry R. O'Connell officiating. Interment will follow in the Richfield Union Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the church.
CARLISLE - Lee Wayne Arnold, 56, of Carlisle, formerly of McClure, died at 10 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2001, at his home. Born March 27, 1945, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Glenn A. and A. Pearl (Kinger) Arnold. His wife, Beverly (Eckert) Arnold, whom he married July 25, 1981, survives. Also surviving are two brothers, Edward "Barry" Arnold of Tacoma, Wash. and Robert Arnold of Mechanicsburg. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, McClure. He enjoyed his pets and painting. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the McClure chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes, North Brown Street, McClure, with the Rev. John Shellenberger officiating. Interment will be in the McClure Union Cemetery.
BRONX, NY - Roger Arnold, 49, of 344 Brook Ave., Bronx, NY, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at the Manhattan Veterans Administration Hospital, after several months illness. Born May 12, 1951 in Jamaica, NY, he was the son of Robert Yeldell of Harrisburg and the late Virginia Arnold. He is survived by his wife, Lois Ann (Bender) Arnold, formally a Belleville resident, whom he married Sept. 12, 1971. He is also survived by two daughters: Carmella Arnold and Candace Arnold, both at home; three sisters, Regina Dore of New York, NY; Renee Foster of Kew Gardins, NY; and Robin Bryant of Harrisburg; , one grand-daughter; and a stepmother, Margaret Yeldell of Harrisburg. He was a veteran of the U S Army. He had worked at one time for the U.S. Postal Service and more recently as a security officer at Duane Reade and Toys-R-Us, both in New York City. He was a member of the Seventh Avenue Mennonite Church, New York, NY. He was a skilled drummer and he played for various churches throughout New York City. He was an active volunteer in the school system and in the Parent-Teacher Association. Services were held on Friday at the Seventh Avenue Mennonite Church, New York, NY. Interment was in Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY. The Groff-High-Eckenroth Funeral Home Inc., Terre Hill, is in charge of arrangements.
SHAMOKIN - William M. Augustine, 71, of 1035 W. Independence St., Coal Township, Shamokin, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at Shamokin Area Community Hospital after an extended illness. Born Nov. 2, 1929, in Coal Township, he was a son of the late Albert and Marcella (Bradley) Augustine. His wife, Joanne (Osinski) Augustine, whom he married Nov. 21, 1953, at Mother of Consolation Church, Mount Carmel, survives. Also surviving are: children, William M. Augustine Jr., Reedsville, Nancy Gordon, Bloomsburg and Joanne Schmoyer, Reading; sisters and a brother, Louise Garrigan, Myerstown, Marcy Reading, Coal Township and Phillip Augustine, Mount Carmel; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson and by one brother, Albert Augustine, and two sisters, Elizabeth Kanaskie and Patricia Meiser. He was a 1948 graduate of Coal Township High School. He was a blacksmith, and also worked as an oiler on a power shovel in the strip mining coal industry. He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Church. He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Shamokin. He served as a volunteer fireman, having been a life-member of the Main Fire Company, where he also served as a trustee. Those attending a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. today are asked to meet at 9:45 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Church, 863 West Chestnut St., Coal Township. Visitation and a Christian Vigil Service were held Friday evening. The family will provide flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Our Lady of Hope Church, 863 West Chestnut St., Coal Township, PA 17866. The Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home, Ltd., 120 S. Market St., Shamokin, is in charge of arrangements.
MILROY - Arthur A. Aumiller, 82, of 45 Sue St., Milroy, died at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday July 3, 2001, at Ohesson Manor, 276 Green Ave., Lewistown. Born July 23, 1918, in Mifflin County, he was the son of the late Claire (Ramsey) and Ray C. Aumiller Sr. His wife, Hazel (Hood) Aumiller, whom he married July 12, 1942, survives. Also surviving are: children, Daniel A. Aumiller, Westerville, OH, Gail L. Aumiller, Chambersburg, Beth E. Aumiller, Reedsville and Jan Aumiller-Szeerba, Harrisburg; sister, Mary Jane Romig, Milroy; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters, Ray Aumiller Jr., Glenn Aumiller, Lynwood Aumiller, Ruby Fluke, Gladys Henry, and an infant sister. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, having served from 1942-1946. He received his bachelor's degree in 1954 and his master's degree in 1955 from the Pennsylvania State University. He was a special education teacher for the Mifflin County School District, beginning in 1955 and retiring in 1982. He then was a substitute until Feb. 22, 2001. He also co-owned Mil-View TV Cable Company in Milroy. He was a member of White Memorial United Church of Christ, Milroy, where he was a former Sunday school teacher. He was also a life member of Pennsylvania State Education Association and National Education Association. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Dean Bobb officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. SELINSGROVE - Katheryn L. Aurand, 83, of Penn Lutheran Village, formerly of Middleburg RR4, died at 5:38 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2001, at Evangelical Community Hospital. Born Jan. 15, 1918, in Jamison City, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Pearl (Babb) Travelet. Her husband, Jay A. Aurand, whom she married May 23, 1935, preceded her in death on Sept. 9, 1996. Surviving are: a daughter, Janice K. Farley, Tampa, FL; a son, James H. Aurand, Middleburg RR4; two brothers, Charles E. Travelet, Middleburg and Walter M. Travelet Jr., Kreamer; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Byron R. Travelet. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Middleburg. She retired from the Selinsgrove Center after 12 years of service in food service. She previously worked for the Midd-West School District as a cook at Middleburg High School. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Beavertown chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, with Rev. Joan Darrow officiating. Interment will be in the Paxtonville Union Cemetery. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where family will be present 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Middleburg, PA, 17842.
