John E. Counterman, Sr.
(May 6, 1939 - June 8, 2016)

John E. Counterman, Sr., 77, of Tobyhanna, passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 8, at Regional Hospital of Scranton. He was the husband of Alberta (Rutt) Counterman.

Born May 6, 1939 in East Stroudsburg, he was a son of the late William, Sr. and Helen (Lauer) Counterman and was a lifetime resident of Monroe County.

He served in the United States Navy.

John worked in construction and also at Shaw Plastics and American Candle.

In addition to his wife he is survived by three children Tammy Counterman of Tobyhanna, Jacqueline Counterman (Scott Breiner) of Lehighton and John E. Counterman, Jr. of Tobyhanna; five grandchildren Johnathan Breiner, Sandra Breiner, Ceara Breiner, Richard Frantz III and Brandon Reaser; a great-grandson, Brently Collier; six siblings, Shirley DeHaven, Barbara Burkholder, Marion Shank, Ronald Counterman, Robert Counterman and Larry Counterman; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Floyd Counterman.

There will be no services. Private burial of his cremains will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to the National Kidney Foundation www.kidney.org/donation.

Helene "Leni" Eisemann
(April 23, 1923 - June 5, 2016)

Helene "Leni" Eisemann, 93, of East Stroudsburg, died Sunday, June 5, 2016 while under hospice care in her home.

Born on April 23, 1923 in Germany, she was the daughter of the late Max and Erna (Lehmann) Eisemann and lived in East Stroudsburg since 1938.

She was a school teacher having taught her early years in Florida and New Jersey and then at East Stroudsburg School District for many years until retiring in 1980.

Leni was a member of Temple Israel of the Poconos, Hadassah, AAUW, BPW, and Pocono Medical Center Auxiliary. She volunteered at Pocono Medical Center, American Cancer Society and Meals on Wheels; served on the Friends of the Library board of Monroe County Public Library; and helped senior citizens with tax preparation through AARP.

Surviving are cousins and friends.

Graveside services were held Monday, June 6, at Temple Israel Cemetery.

Memorial remembrances may be made to Temple Israel of the Poconos, 711 Wallace Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.

Fikri "Frank" Kairamanov
(June 17, 1942 - May 6, 2016)

Fikri “Frank” Kairamanov, the “Godfather of Pizza” passed away on May 6, 2016 with his family by his side.

Born on June 17, 1942 in Devin, Bulgaria, Frank defected from his communist country at the young age of 17 leaving his mother and family in search of a better life in America. Frank defected into Greece and began his journey on May 6, 1964 in Brooklyn, NY. At 19 years old, with strength and determination Frank began his pizza career and never looked back.

Frank’s journey making pizza started in New York where he opened his first pizza shop in Port Jervis NY. Frank settled in Northeast Pennsylvania where he acquired 28 pizza shops that spanned over 40 years, making him known as “the Godfather” and having the best pizza in Northeast PA.

Frank was united in marriage to Diane Neyhart on April 16, 1967 and they celebrated 28 years of marriage. Frank’s greatest love was his children Frank Jr., Angel and Walter. Frank passed on his love of making pizza and hard work onto his children. When he wasn’t making pizza he was hunting and fishing with his sons. Frank’s other passion was gambling, having many late night poker games which were shared with his family and close friends.

Frank is survived by his beloved children, Frank Jr. and his companion Holly Stackhouse, Angel Silfee, and Walter and his companion Becky Drake. Frank had 2 grandchildren, Christopher Kairamanov and Shaun Silfee who he adored. He also leaves behind his buddy and protector Ruger. In Bulgaria Frank is survived by his sisters Nedka, Sevta and Fatma Kayramanova. Frank was predeceased by his brothers Jamal and Saleel Kairamanov.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street Stroudsburg on Wednesday May 11th from 6pm-8pm with Pastor Scott Davis officiating.

John T. Baabe
(December 23, 1927 - May 7, 2016)

John T. Baabe, 88, of Snydersville, died Saturday, May 7, at Slate Belt Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Bangor. In 1949 he marriage Lenora (Wheeler) Baabe who died March 22,, 1982; and in 1983 he marriage Margaret (Nordmark) Treible Baabe who died July 10, 2013.

Born December 23, 1927 in Patchogue, NY, he was the son of the late John and Henrieta (Cizek) Baabe and was resident of Monroe County since 1938.

After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Macomb DMS 23 Destroyer Mine Sweeper as a radar man, third class Petty Officer. During the Korean War he was aboard the USS Samuel B. Roberts DD 823, a large destroyer.

John worked for the Ronson Corporation for many years, starting out as a tool, mold and die maker and tool and gage inspector. Later he moved to the research and development department, where he made prototypes and did patent investigations.

He attended Temple and East Stroudsburg Universities and earned a certificate for Industrial Education from Temple.

John was one of the first teachers at Monroe County Vo-Tech school when it opened in 1972. He was a past president of the local PA State Education Association Union and negotiated the first formal contract at the Vo-Tech School.

He served on the board of Burnley Workshop and was president of R-Own Lake Inc. for many years.

He was an avid traveler and gardener and loved flowers and cooking.

Surviving are two daughters, Deborah Burns and her husband Keith of Bartonsville and Wendy Baabe of Stroudsburg; a granddaughter, Michelle Butz Hillyerd and her husband John of Pamplico, SC; three great grandchildren, Amanda, John and Joseph Hillyerd; three great great grandchildren, Jake, Shyann and Julia; a sister, Jeanne Cramer of Bartonsville; and two step-daughters, Patricia McGauran of East Stroudsburg and Holly M. Treible of Stroudsburg. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Kyle J. Baabe on September 30, 2015.

Funeral services will begin at 10:00AM on Saturday, May 14, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg with Wendell Ottesen, officiating. Burial will follow at Prospect Cemetery in East Stroudsburg. There will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to Monroe County Meals-On-Wheels, 9 North 9th Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.

Kyriaki Kyriacopoulos
(April 22, 1928 - May 5, 2016)

Kyriaki Kyriacopoulos, 88, of East Stroudsburg, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 5, 2016, at Whitestone Care Center in Stroud Township. She was the widow of Vasilios Kyriacopoulos who died May 4, 2006.

Born on April 22, 1928 in Athens, Greece, she was the daughter of the late John and Julia (Emmanoeledis) Michailedis. She moved to the United States in 1959 and lived in Monroe County since 2001.

She worked as a professional dress maker and seamstress in Greece and the United States.

Kyriaki was a member of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Stroudsburg.

Surviving are two sons, Theodore Kyriacopoulos and his wife Helen of East Stroudsburg and George Kyriacopoulos of Greece; a grandson, Gareth Kyriacopoulos; and a brother, Andrea Michailedis of Greece.

Viewing will be from 4:00 to 7:00PM on Wednesday, May 11, at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 135 Stokes Avenue, Stroudsburg. The funeral service will begin at 10:00AM Thursday, May 12, at the church with Rev. Theodore Petrides officiating. Burial will follow in the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox section of Stroudsburg Cemetery.
