Gail Ann Werkheiser died peacefully in her home in Tannersville, on Sunday, November 5, 2017. She was 66.
She was born on August 2, 1951 at Pocono Hospital in East Stroudsburg, to Joan Ann Phillips and Donald Leroy Werkheiser, Sr..
Gail graduated from Stroudsburg High School in 1969, and stayed in the area and worked in the banking industry and health field.
She welcomed her only daughter Mary Margaret Johnson and taught her how to be independent and self-reliant. Mary remembers her mother as being independent and a very strong woman. Her hobbies included collecting ornamented apples and becoming proficient with the computer.
Gail was skilled at accounting and baking, and often taught the grandchildren those skills. She was an individual who could be counted on to give the whole truth, loved math, and was passionate about her family.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Johnson; three granddaughters, Olivia, Jocelyn and Emma; four brothers, Donald "Butch" Werkheiser, Joe Werkheiser, Jeffrey Franks and Wayne Franks; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
The funeral is scheduled for 3:00PM Sunday, November 19, at St. John's Evangelical Congregational Church, 6014 Custard Road, Stroudsburg, where the Reverend Paul Miller is pastor.

Nancy H. Sommers-Frisbie
(May 19, 1932 - November 4, 2017)
Nancy H. Sommers-Frisbie, 85, of Harleysville, and formerly of East Stroudsburg, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Peter Becker Community where she was a resident.
She was the beloved and devoted mother of Sanke Sommers, Sande Sommers, and Terre Sommers. She was predeceased by her first and second husbands Elwood Sommers and Norman Frisbie respectively.
Nancy was born in Newark, NJ on May 19, 1932 to the late William and Gladys (Van Auken) Hamer and was one of five Hamer sisters including Marilyn (Chester) Kupizewski predeceased, Lois (Roy predeceased) Hughes, Carol (Richard) Weidman and Patricia Mariello.
While living in Corning, New York with her first husband Elwood and their children, Nancy worked as a lunch aide at the Corning Free Academy. Following the death of her first husband in 1978, Nancy reconnected with her high school sweetheart Norman Frisbie. After an extended courtship, Norman and Nancy marriage in the spring of 1986. They enjoyed many years living in East Stroudsburg, PA until Norman’s death in January, 2013. During that time, Nancy worked as a childcare provider at St. Luke’s childcare center until opening her own daycare which she ran for over 10 years.
Nancy was a gifted poet, enjoyed painting ceramics and landscapes, was an avid doll collector and dog lover.
Surviving Nancy are her children Sanke, Sande and Terre (Julieann) Sommers. She has seven grandchildren, Heather (Steve) Taliaferro, Lindsay Welch, Jamie Sommers (Wayne Lawler), Michael (Victoria) Sommers, Timothy Sommers, Jennifer Sommers and Corre Sommers. She also has two great-grandchildren, Savannah Taliaferro and Charlotte Sommers. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A private family service was held on Tuesday, November 7, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Nancy may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, American Heart Association or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Giuseppe Savastano

Giuseppe Savastano, 87, of Middle Smithfield Township, died Saturday, November 21, at home.
There will be a viewing from 6:00 to 8:00PM on Tuesday, November 24, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM on Wednesday, November 25 at St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, 200 Brodhead Avenue, East Stroudsburg. Private cremation will follow the Mass with burial at a later date at Pinelawn Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to R.K. Baseball.
Charles F. Vaughn

Charles F. Vaughn, 75, of Portland, died Thursday morning, November 19, 2015, at the Pocono Health System Hospice House in East Stroudsburg. He made his home in Portland for 35 years and was the husband and best friend of Judy A. (Gardner) Vaughn with whom he shared 45 years of marriage on September 27th.
Born on July 27, 1940 in Stroudsburg, he was a son to the late Frank and Jane (Quick) Vaughn.
He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in January 1966.
Charles was a produce merchandiser for A&P; until retiring eight years ago after 50 years of service.
He was a member, Elder and Deacon of the Community Presbyterian Church of Portland and Mt. Bethel and was active with PUMP (Portland Upper Mt. Bethel Pantry)
Charles was an avid Steeler fan and as a known pet lover, enjoyed relaxing on his front porch with treats waiting for the many neighborhood dog friends who liked to visit with him. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and generosity. Most of all, he was a loving and devoted Husband, Father, Pop Pop, Brother and Friend.
In addition to his wife he is survived by: two daughters, Carrie Muffley and her husband Brad of Portland, and Bethany Winkelman and her husband Jason of Sciota; five grandchildren, Taylor, Connor, Kellee, Elysabeth and Elyse; three sisters, Judy Vaughn of Florida, Shirley Carlton of Stroudsburg and Lorraine Singer of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kelly Vaughn; and a sister, Faye Vaughn Rutz.
Viewing will begin at 11:00AM followed by the funeral service at noon on Monday, November 23, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. The Rev. John Heinsohn will officiate. Private cremation will follow the services.

Thomas J. Murphy

Thomas John Murphy, 82, of Stroud Township, lost his battle with Leukemia on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospital - Anderson Campus, Easton. He was the husband of Angeline (Fuller) Murphy.
Born on May 29, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of the late Daniel and Marie (Murtha) Murphy. Tom grew up in Maspeth, NY, spending summers at his grandfather's summer home in his beloved Lewis, DE.
While attending City College of New York, he joined the United States Navy where he served aboard the USS Randolph in the 6th Fleet.
He was an ornamental iron worker for Union Local # 580 in New York City
Tom coached his sons' little league baseball and football teams and enjoyed attending his daughter's dance recitals and gymnastic performances. Together they fished, crabbed, played golf and enjoyed many beach vacations.
He was a beloved grandfather of six grandchildren. He enjoyed painting and shared his craft with his grandchildren and was selected by many of them to be their confirmation sponsor.
Tom loved the underdog, such as the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Mets and was a lifelong subway alumni of Notre Dame.
His greatest love was reserved for his wife, Angeline of 54 years, who was the light of his life. He was the center of our family.
He was a member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Thomas J. Murphy, Jr. and his wife Kelly of Glen Mills, and Timothy Murphy of East Stroudsburg; a daughter, Tracy Houtsma and her husband Gary of Denville, NJ; and six grandchildren, Madison and Daniel Murphy, Courtney and Sarah Houtsma, and Taylor and Dillon Murphy. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dan Murphy.
Viewing will be from 3:00 to 5:00PM on Monday, November 23, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, Stroudsburg and from 9:30 to 10:00AM on Tuesday, November 24, at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 818 Main Street, Stroudsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM on Tuesday at the church with Rev. Carmen Perry as celebrant. Private cremation will follow the Mass with burial at a later date at St. John's Cemetery, Queens, NY.
Judy A. Alpaugh
(June 15, 1970 - April 13, 2017)
Judy A. Alpaugh, 46, of Middle Smithfield Township, died Thursday morning, April 13, 2017 at the Lehigh Valley Hospice House - Pocono in East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of Kevin L. Alpaugh with whom she shared 27 years of marriage.
Born on June 15, 1970 in East Stroudsburg, she was a daughter of Jerry and Joan (Halterman) Molyneaux of Henryville and was a lifetime resident of Monroe County.
She was a school bus driver for the East Stroudsburg South School District.
Judy was a member of the Thomas P. Lambert Post 2540 VFW in East Stroudsburg.
In addition to her husband and parents, surviving are four children; JoHannah Alpaugh, Savannah Alpaugh, Kevin Alpaugh II and Taylor Alpaugh, all at home; a sister, Janice Molyneaux and fiance James Ace of Henryville; a niece, Kaylee Ace; a nephew, Dylan Ace; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Viewing will begin at 1:00PM followed by the funeral service at 3:00PM on Monday, April 17, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main St., Stroudsburg. Rev. Dean Frey will officiate. Private cremation will follow.

Mildred M. Rupert

Mildred M. Rupert, 94, of Stroud Township, died Thursday afternoon, June 8, 2017, at the Lehigh Valley Hospice House - Pocono in East Stroudsburg. She was the widow of Arthur C. Rupert who died November 23, 2013.
Born on October 1, 1922 in Salina, Kansas, she was a daughter of the late J.A. and Minnie (Pfannenstiel) Claus.
She worked in the office of Pocono Orthopedics for many years.
Mildred was a founding member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church in Stroudsburg.
Surviving are a niece, Judith Iacovello of North Port, FL; two nephews, Paul Rupert of Chevy Chase, MD and Keith Rupert of Brewster, MA; a great niece and two great nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Randal J. Rupert in 1988; a sister, Rose Louise Green; and a brother, Alfred F. Claus.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM Thursday, June 15th, at St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, 818 Main Street, Stroudsburg with Rev. Carmen Perry as celebrant. Burial will follow at Laurelwood Cemetery in Stroudsburg. There will be no viewing.
