Howard "Butch" W. Miller
(September 11, 1936 - December 11, 2014)

Howard "Butch" W. Miller, 78, of Stroud Township, passed away on Thursday morning, December 11, 2014 at the VNA Hospice House in East Stroudsburg. Born on September 11, 1936, he was the son of the late Rev. Charles Miller and the late Lillian (Steinert) Miller. Howard is survived by his wife, Shirley (Applegate) Miller with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.

He retired from Weiler Brush Company in Cresco after working there for many years. After retirement, Howard enjoyed his part-time employment at the Abeloff dealership, shuttling their customers.

A 1954 graduate of Stroudsburg High School, he attended East Stroudsburg State Teachers College and served in the United States Air Force.

Howard was a member of East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Stroud Township. After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels. He also enjoyed spending time with his five grandchildren and was a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies.

In addition to his wife, surviving are three children, Mary Anne Constable and her husband Robert of Stroudsburg, Michael Miller of Brodheadsville, and Steven Miller and his wife Joy of Nazareth; his loving grandchildren, Robert, Ethan and Meredith Constable and Miranda and Wyatt Miller; two brothers, Rev. Charles Miller, Jr. of Mount Bethel and David Miller of Blackwood, NJ; a sister, Marilyn Parry of Merion Station, PA; and nieces and nephews.

There will be a viewing from 10:00 to 11:30AM on Tuesday, December 16, at William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main St., Stroudsburg, where the funeral service will begin at 11:30AM with Rev. James Todd, officiating. Burial will follow at Laurelwood Cemetery in Stroudsburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VNA Hospice of Monroe County, 502 VNA Road, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301or to East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, 83 South Courtland Street, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.

Gerry Ann Wyllie
(July 14, 1956 - December 6, 2014)

Gerry Ann Wyllie, 58, of Catasaqua, died, Saturday, December 6, at St. Luke's Hospice House in Bethlehem. She was the wife of David P. Wyllie with whom she shared 38 years of marriage. Gerry was a good friend, loving mother, daughter and sister, an adoring Nana, and caring aunt and sister-in-law, who will be sorely missed by all who her life touched in so many ways.

Born on July 14, 1956 in East Stroudsburg, she was a daughter of Edward and Ella Mae (Dildine) Hardenstine of Stroudsburg.

She was a 1974 graduate of Stroudsburg High School and was an accomplished and dedicated sales associate at Macy's Lehigh Valley for 34 years.

Gerry loved her family, and was deeply loved by them and her friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by a son, David N. Wyllie of Catasaqua; two grandchildren, Jocelyn Bryan-Wyllie and Hayley Bryan-Wyllie; a sister, Mary Lou Tompkins of Fernandina Beach, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may visit from noon to 1:00PM on Friday, December 12, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 9 North 9th St., Stroudsburg; where a celebration of life service will begin at 1:00PM with Rev. Dody S. Siegfried officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to The V. Foundation for Cancer Research, 106 Towerview Court, Cary, NC 27513(www.jimmyv.org).

Marion Kovach
(September 10, 1915 - December 1, 2014)

Marion Kovach, 99, of Stroudsburg, died early Monday morning, December 1, at Whitestone Health Care Center in Stroud Township. She was the widow of John Kovach who died in 1990.

Born on September 10, 1915 in Tarrytown, NY, she was a daughter of the late John and Lillian (Bowin) Peduzzi and lived in Monroe County for the past 13 years. She previously lived in North Tarrytown, NY and Briarcliff Manor, NY.

Marion was a member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church in Stroudsburg and while living in New York was a member of the Briarcliff Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary and St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Briarcliff Manor.

She loved walking and dancing.

Surviving are three children, John Kovach and his wife Carol of Roscommon, MI, Theresa Winkler and her husband Victor of Chapel Hill, NC, and Joanne Barber of Marshalls Creek; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma Bock and siblings, Florence, John, Robert and Willy.

Family and friends may visit from 2:00 to 3:00PM on Friday, December 5, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main St., Stroudsburg. A prayer service will be held at 3:00PM Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Carmen Perry officiating. Cremation was private and burial will be at a later date in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Sleepy Hollow, NY.

Clotilde Gittens-Ponder
(January 6, 1954 - November 27, 2014)

Clotilde Gittens-Ponder, 60, of Stroud Township, died Thursday morning, November 27, while under hospice care in her home. She was the wife of Anthony C. Ponder with whom she shared 21 years of marriage.

Born on January 6, 1954 in Panama City, Panama, she was a daughter of the late Nathanial and Enid (Bailey) Harris and lived in Monroe County for the past 19 years moving from New York, NY.

She was an executive secretary for New York Power Authority in Astoria, Queens, NY for 31 years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by: three children, Rodolfo Gittens of San Diego, CA, Jasmine Gittens of Oakland, CA and Anthony Ponder of New York, NY; two grandchildren, Brooklyn Gittens and Jordan Crawford both of SanDiego, CA; two Brothers, Desta Bailey of Sacramento, CA and Alberto Harris of San Francisco, CA; a sister, Marva Stewart of Brooklyn, NY; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Goria Harris and a brother, Rogelio Harris.

The viewing will be from 10:00 to 11:00AM on Friday, December 5, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main St., Stroudsburg. Funeral services will begin at 11:00AM Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. George R. Taylor, officiating. Burial will follow at Prospect Cemetery in East Stroudsburg.

Melanie S. Bond
(September 6, 1961 - January 22, 2015)

Melanie S. Bond, 53, of Stroudsburg, died Thursday, January 22, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Stroud Township. She was the wife of Timothy D. Bond.

Born on September 6, 1961 in East Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of Barbara L. (Schmidt) Zwalley of East Stroudsburg.

She was a lifetime resident of Monroe County and was a human resource assistant for the National Park Service from where she retired after over 20 years of service.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by two children, Sydney Hoppe and her husband Karl and Adam Bond and his wife Allison all of Stroudsburg; four grandchildren, Karl Hoppe II, Kyleigh Hoppe, Arrianna Villacorta and Andrea Bond; a sister, Lee Ann Heeter and her husband Daryl of Whittier, NC; two brothers, Ronald F. Zwalley, Jr. and Isaac Zwalley Brady both of Stroudsburg, PA; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and her father, Ronald F. Zwalley and his wife Rebecca of Stroudsburg. She was preceded in death by brother, Zee A. Zwalley.

There will be a visitation from 10:30 to 11:30AM on Wednesday, January 28, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow beginning at noon at St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, 818 Main Street, Stroudsburg with the Rev. Thomas D. McLaughlin as celebrant. Private burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Jean S. Bollard
(February 28, 1921 - January 19, 2015)

Born to Lloyd and Ada Smith on February 28, 1921, Jean Smith Bollard died on January 19, 2015, in East Stroudsburg, her home of 55 years. Once voted the AAUW’s Pennsylvania Division Outstanding Woman, at 93 years of age she was still the “acting president” of the organization at the time of her death. Jean had been a “lifetime member” for more than 50 years.

Jean was an involved congregant at The First Presbyterian Church of Stroudsburg since she arrived with her family in 1959.

She is survived by her three children, Sherry Pfister, Penny Bollard and Ted Bollard (and wife Denise), grandchildren Alexander and Peter Pfister, and Adam and Alec Bollard, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Rosamond Smith, of Martinsburg, Pa. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Edward R. Bollard.

In addition to her immediate relatives she leaves the most wonderful neighbors and friends who were also members of her “family:” Debbie and David Piatt, Anna Mae and Ed West, Sonya and Horace Cole, Dr. John Toleno (and wife Tammy), and Art Weglein.

Outside of the home, Jean was an educator. Prior to marriage she taught fulltime near her home town of Martinsburg, Pa. and returned to the classroom in the East Stroudsburg School District as a substitute teacher for some 35 years, finally retiring at 80 years of age.

Her celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 24th at The First Presbyterian Church of Stroudsburg. A reception at the church will immediately follow the service.

The family is requesting that any contributions in her memory be made to the VNA/Hospice of Monroe County, 502 Independence Road, East Stroudsburg, Pa. 18301
