William Arthur Gould, 60, of Saylorsburg, passed away suddenly Friday evening, June 10, at Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg after being stricken at home.
Born on February 15, 1956 in San Antonio, TX, he was a son of Richard and Audrey (Graham) Gould of Wind Gap.
He was a 1974 graduate of North Hunterdon High School in Annandale, NJ and studied at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee where he lived from 1975 until 2011 when he moved to Monroe County.
William was a self-employed landscaper and also volunteered for EPAA (Eastern PA Animal Alliance) .
He was predeceased by his partner of more than 14 years, Mark Wedel of Tennessee.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Raymond Gould and his wife, Susan, of Delaware Water Gap and Richard Gould of Palm Coast, FL; a sister, Nancy Gould and her spouse, Sandra, of Delaware Water Gap; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will begin at 2:00PM Thursday, July 7, at St. Peter's United Methodist Church in Saylorsburg. Cremation was private.

Deyancie D. Monroe

Deyancie D. Monroe, 88, of Tobyhanna, died Tuesday morning, May 31, 2016 at Mountain View Care Center in Scranton. He was the husband of the late Cora G. (Wood) Monroe with whom he shared 60 years of marriage at the time of her death on September 8, 2011.
Born on March 15, 1928 in Tidewater, VA, he was a son of the late Thomas and Nettie (Blue) Monroe and lived in Tobyhanna since 1954, moving from Baltimore, MD.
He served in the United States Army and was employed as a quality assurance specialist at Tobyhanna Army Depot for 35 years.
Deyancie was a member of Tobyhanna United Methodist Church, Bethel A.M.E. Church in Scranton, and the Masonic Lodge.
Deyancie was a generous and caring man who often brought those in need, who had no family, to his home for meals and company. He was a devoted husband and lovingly cared for his beloved Cora until the end of her life. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather and treasured his family above all else. He kept in touch with relatives far and near. He loved the Mets and to watch baseball games on TV. He also loved to play cards, especially Spades. He was very competitive and loved to win! He had a jovial personality and loved to joke and tease those close to him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving are three children, Gregory Monroe and his wife Cindy of Jamison, Sharon Gilbert of Colorado Spring, CO and Wayne Monroe of Tobyhanna; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leon, Edwin and Oliver Monroe; and a sister, Alice Monroe.
Viewing will begin at 11:00AM followed by the funeral service at noon on Saturday, June 4, at Tobyhanna United Methodist Church, Main Street, Tobyhanna. The Rev. Jessica Ross will officiate. Burial will follow at Prospect Cemetery in East Stroudsburg.

Lester Heller
(November 16, 1924 - June 20, 2016)

Lester Heller, 91, of East Stroudsburg, died Monday, June 20, 2016 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Hamilton Township. He was the husband of Mary Lou (Dickey) Heller whom he marriage when he came home from the service in 1946.
Born on November 16, 1924 in East Stroudsburg, he was a son of the late Thomas Sr. and Pearl (Lee) Heller and was a lifetime resident of Monroe County.
A World War II veteran, he served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. He was in the 11th Airborne Division in the Pacific Theater in Japan and received eight medals of achievement when discharged..
Lester drove tractor trailer for the former Ronson Corporation in Delaware Water Gap for 27 years and then worked as a State Liquor Store clerk for 13 years until retiring.
He was a member of East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Adelaide Widdoss, Dorothy Beaver and Lorraine Beaver; and three brothers, James Heller, Gerald Heller and Thomas Heller, Jr..
Viewing will begin at 10:00AM followed by the funeral service at 11:00AM on Friday, June 24, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. The Rev. James Todd will officiate. Burial will follow at Laurelwood Cemetery in Stroudsburg.
Harper M. Bruce, Jr.
(August 8, 1948 - June 14, 2016)
Local Musician, Harper M. Bruce, Jr., 67, of Stroudsburg, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, June 14, 2016. He was the husband of Faye Lynn (Young) Bruce. They were marriage 40 years and together 42 years. They considered their 42 year relationship a gift.
Born in Baltimore, MD, on August 8, 1948, he was the son of Harper M. Bruce, Sr. and Ruth E. (Butler) Bruce, both deceased.
Harper resided in Monroe County for 62 years. A graduate of Pocono Mountain High School. He was raised in Tobyhanna and moved to the Stroudsburg area after his marriage to his best friend. Through all kinds of challenges they stood side by side and worked together no matter what life threw at them.
Harper was a singer and guitar player playing In local bands beginning in High School. A few of the bands he played in were: The Chosen Few, Shadowfax, Federal Reserve, Simon Gilby, Ryke, Red Weather, and the very popular wedding band Adrian Priest & Grimes. Later he played at the local Caesar Resorts and other family resorts in the area. Harper was also known for his solo work.
A favorite passion, was his love of his Gravely tractors and usually would be seen working outside or working on “the land” as he called it. He loved working in his garage. Always willing to help neighbors, friends & even perfect strangers with their mechanical needs or just lending them the tools including the use of his garage.
If you knew Harper, especially if you were a neighbor, you would know where to find him on a clear starry night. He would be in his yard with a variety of different telescopes more than willing to show anyone walking by the planets along with their moons.
Harper had worked very hard & diligently in obtaining a patent on a music stand he designed. He sold his Gear Hugger Music Stands within the states and outside of the U.S.
Harper will always be remembered for his generous spirit and his extended helping hand to anyone that needed it.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister-in-laws Roxann Harps, Charlene Young, Ginger Mosher, brother-in-law Robert Young and several nieces and nephews. Also, his little boy “ Puddin Head Bruce” (his dog) .
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his sister Miriam Bruce Gourlay and brother-in-laws: Kirk Young and Raymond Gourlay.
In memory of Harper, he would have liked everyone to do a random act of kindness for a friend, a neighbor or a stranger.
Memorial services will be at the convenience of the family.
Agnes D. Shamp
(December 10, 1924 - June 14, 2016)
Agnes D. Shamp, 91, of Stroudsburg, died Tuesday evening, June 14, 2016 at Pocono Health System Hospice House in East Stroudsburg. She was the widow of James W. Shamp.
Born on December 10, 1924 in Bronx, NY, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Marie (Murphy) Kavanagh.
In her early years she was a bank teller in New York and later worked at J.C. Penney on Main Street in Stroudsburg.
Agnes was a member of The Church of St. Luke in Stroudsburg and helped with its funeral luncheon ministry. She also volunteered in the cafeteria at St. Matthew's School and was a member of St. Matthew's Altar and Rosary Society both in East Stroudsburg.
She is survived by two sons, Timothy Shamp of Pine Grove and Thomas Shamp and his wife Carmelle of North Attleboro, MA; three grandsons, Christopher and Mark Shamp both of North Attleboro, MA and Geoffrey Shamp of Woodstock, CT; six great grandchildren; and two sisters, Martha Kavanagh SCC of Bernardsville, NJ and Bernadette Tangney of Rockville Centre, NY. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Eileen A. Shamp on October 15, 2015.
Viewing will begin at 9:00AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM on Saturday, June 18, at The Church of St. Luke, 818 Main Street, Stroudsburg. The Rev. Carmen Perry will be the celebrant. Burial will follow at Laurelwood Cemetery in Stroudsburg.
