Betty J. Decker, 96, of Stroudsburg, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at home.
Born on September 6, 1921 in East Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of the late Sadie (Lambert) Decker and Robert E. Decker, Sr., and was a lifetime resident of Monroe County.
She attended East Stroudsburg schools, and was Salutatorian of the graduating class of 1939, a member of the National Honor Society and inducted into the ESHS Academic Hall of Fame.
Betty spent her working career at the Bell Telephone Company of PA starting out as an operator in the Stroudsburg office; in Honesdale during their flood in 1942; in Norfolk VA during World War II; Fort Indiantown Gap in Harrisburg when it was a separation center; as an operator instructor in Harrisburg; and in Stroudsburg during the flood of 1955. She retired from Bell of PA as the business office supervisor in Stroudsburg after 38 years of service.
Betty was a member of East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, Monroe County Chapter American Red Cross, Pocono Pioneer Club, Fifty Plus Alumni Association of East Stroudsburg High School, and RSVP for whom she volunteered many hours. She was a faithful volunteer at the Seventh Day Adventist Community Clothing Room for many years. She also knit baby hats for newborns, sewed walker "saddlebags" for the disabled, and, recently, started knitting baby octopuses for infants in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) .
Surviving are two sisters, Ruth Crane of Springboro, OH and Audrey Transue of Cresco; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert E. Decker, Jr., Russell A. Decker, and Carl G. Decker; and a sister, Margaret Treible.
Memorial services will be held at East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, 87 North Courtland Street, East Stroudsburg on Tuesday, December 5, at 1:00 p.m., with a luncheon following in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, Monroe County Chapter American Red Cross or to a charity of one's choice.
Donald F. Miller
(May 31, 1940 - November 26, 2017)
Donald F. Miller, 77, of East Stroudsburg, died early Sunday morning, November 26, 2017, in his home after a four year battle with cancer. He was the husband of Sylvia (Faucett) Miller with whom he shared 41 years of marriage.
Born on May 31, 1940 in Columbia, NJ, he was the only son of the late Frank and Abbie (Leighton) Miller and was a lifetime resident of the Monroe County area. After the death of his father at the age of 12, his mother remarriage the late Lamont Nauman.
He was a 1958 graduate of East Stroudburg High School where he played football and was active in the band; and then served in the U.S. Army.
Don was employed at J.A. Reinhardt in Mountainhome until retiring in 1999 after 37 years of service.
He was a member of NRA, Masonic Lodge #780, Dark Hollow Hunting Club and Blue Ridge Cherry Valley Gun Club. He was also a friend of the Shawnee Presbyterian Church.
Don loved being in the woods, hunting, fishing and cutting wood for the fireplace at his cabin at Woodpecker Lake, one of his favorite places. He was also active in pistol shooting competitions in IDPA and received many awards.
In addition to his wife, surviving are two children, Cory D. Miller and wife Patti and Mandi Phillips and husband Matthew; two step daughters, Carol West and husband Jason and Sandy Bari; and five grandchildren, Kyndal and Morgan Miller, Gage Gollin, and Kyle and Brian West. He was preceded in death by a son, S. Sgt. Monte S. Miller in July 2017.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 20, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, with visitation beginning at 10:00AM followed by the memorial service at 11:00AM. The Rev. Anthony San Filippo will officiate. Cremation was private and burial will take place at Shawnee Presbyterian Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to Pocono Family YMCA, 809 Main Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360 where Don spent many early mornings with friends.
Frederick Schwarz
(April 27, 1937 - October 20, 2017)

Frederick "Fritzie" Henry Schwarz, 80, of Spotswood, NJ, passed away Friday afternoon, October 20, 2017, at The Meadows at Stroud in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of the late Dolores Elizabeth (Placko) Schwarz.
Born on April 27, 1937 in Irvington, NJ, he was a son of the late Eugene Karl and Hedwig (Hoffmann) Schwarz.
He served in the U.S. Army in Korea.
Fred loved cooking, fishing and his pet dogs.
Surviving are his sister, Helen Lewin and husband Michael of Tannersville; six nieces and nephews; eleven grand nieces and nephews; and five great grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three siblings, George Schwarz, Marie Schmidt and Caroline Schwarz.
The viewing will begin at 10:00AM followed by a prayer service at noon on Wednesday, October 25, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. A reception will follow the service.
Memorial remembrances may be made to Cancer Care of America.

Lois A. Wahrmann

Lois A. Wahrmann, 73, of Stroudsburg, died Saturday afternoon, October 21, 2017, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono in East Stroudsburg.
Born on May 29, 1944 in Palmerton, she was the daughter of Violet (Weidman) Kromer of Bangor and the late Alton Borger. She grew up and spent her early years in Palmerton and then most of the rest of her life in Monroe County.
Lois was a lab supervisor and phlebotomist at Pocono Medical Center (now Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono) for the past 47 years.
She loved spending time with her family.
In addition to her mother, surviving are five daughters, Catherine Tynemouth of Stroudsburg, Paula Agins of Jacksonville, FL, Christine Scherkenbach and husband Peter of Jacksonville, FL, Sarah Moore and husband Scott of Troy, AL, and Pamela Stanhope and husband Dennis of Effort; eleven grandchildren, Sara, Grace, Dennis, Konrad, Dillon, Kayla, Maxwell, Hannah, Calvin, Peter Jacob and Ella; a brother, Glenn Borger and wife Sandra of Nazareth; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Samantha Agins in 2015.
The memorial service will begin at 11:30AM Tuesday, October 24, at Zion United Lutheran Church, 1919 Route 209, Brodheadsville, with Rev. Ann Melot officiating. Cremation was private.

Erna K. Rechter
(May 15, 1926 - October 24, 2017)
Erna K. Rechter, formerly of Pocono Township, died Tuesday afternoon, October 24, 2017, at Whitestone Care Center in Stroud Township where she was a resident since April. She was the widow of Hans M. Rechter with whom she shared 60 years of marriage at the time of his death on March 12, 2009.
Born on May 15, 1926 in Germany, she was a daughter of the late Friedrich and Tina (Weissner) Zellner. Erna and her late husband came to the United States in 1954 from Germany; and lived in West Orange, NJ until 1987 when they retired and moved to Monroe County.
She worked at B. Altman & Co. department store in Short Hills, NJ.
Erna was a member of the Pocono American German Society and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Tannersville where she was active in their senior citizens group.
Surviving are a daughter, Ingrid Unternahrer and husband Ronald of Pocono Township; two grandsons, Jay Unternahrer of East Stroudsburg and Neil Unternahrer and wife Alisha of Nazareth; a great grandson, Hans Robert Unternahrer; and a sister, Linde Schuebel, sister in law, Helga Zellner, and several nieces and nephews all in Germany. She was preceded in death by a brother, Gustav Zellner.
Cremation was private and services will be held at the convenience of the family.
