A Final Bow For The Beloved Dr. Joseph J. Brennan
Dr. Joseph J. Brennan (“Jay”), 82, died August 11, 2013 in East Stroudsburg, PA.
Jay was born on June 15, 1931 in New York City, New York. He is the son of the late Joseph and Anne Brennan of NYC. He is survived by his brother Donald Brennan, sister-in law Donna Brennan, five nieces Peggy Brennan, Karen Brennan, Mary Jane Brennan, Terri MacDonald, and Anne Brennan, and his cousins Rosemary Walker and William Walker.
Jay received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Iona College, a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University and a Doctor of Philosophy from New York University, where he was the recipient of the Founders Day Award for "Consistent Evidence of Outstanding Scholarship."
His incredible passion for life, the arts, books, film, and travel drove him to a successful life-long career in theatre. He taught and directed multiple generations of students as a professor at East Stroudsburg University from 1960-1999. Jay was chairman of the speech communication and theatre arts department from 1973 until the departments separated in 1982. He then served as chair of the theatre department for 10 years.
During his tenure at ESU, Jay served on many different committees, including the Student-Faculty Judiciary Board, and he directed the Summer Repertory Theater for its five-year life span. He also initiated the idea for the university to have a fine arts degree program. His work in theatre resulted in a federal grant for the study of television production at ESU.
Jay directed more than 70 plays during his almost four decades at ESU. These plays ranged from Shakespeare to more modern comedy and drama. He was also the advisor to Alpha Psi Omega, a theater honorary fraternity, and Stage II, a student theater organization.
Jay also taught a variety of theatre courses for many years at Oxford University, England, where he was one of the founders of the Oxford Court Players. His teaching schedule abroad was coordinated through the Pennsylvania Council for International Education. Prior to his appointment at ESU, Jay taught junior and senior high school English and served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps both as a clinical psychology specialist and a psychiatric social worker.
Throughout his years he changed the lives of many students, families, relatives, friends and colleagues through his overwhelming passion, love of the arts and kindness. Jay truly lived life to the fullest each day. As a theatre professor he got so much joy and inspiration from teaching his students.
Established in 1999 at his retirement from ESU is the JJ Brennan Theatre Excellence Scholarship through the ESU Foundation.
A memorial service will be held at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Stroudsburg, PA on Friday August 23rd at 10am.

Patricia Kristin Baker
December 20, 1946 - August 05, 2005
Patricia Kristin Baker, 58, died Friday, August 5, at Williamsport Hospital. She was the wife of Richard H. Baker. The couple celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary December 20, 2004.
Born on December 20, 1946 in Mount Vernon, NY, she was the daughter of William Sr. and Ruth (Sporing) Schiebel of Stroudsburg.
In 1969, she graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education and taught pre-kindergarten and first grade.
She was a loving and caring homemaker, who always put her family first. She was also an avid tennis player for numerous years.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Baker is survived by one son, David L. Baker and his wife, Amy of South Williamsport; three daughters, Alison, I. Baker of Altoona, Janice M. Baker of Reno, NV and Meredith R. Baker Smith and her husband, Charles of Pasadena, MD; two brothers, William Schiebel, Jr. and his wife, Bethany of Pocono Pines and Donald Schiebel of Stroudsburg; three sisters, Lynn Meili and her husband, Richard of Waterville, NY, Jan Ford and her husband, Bob of Mullica Hill, NJ and Kristen Clark and her husband, Bill of Stroudsburg; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Eph and Bess Baker of Montoursville; sister-in-law, Joyce Baker Brown of Potomac, MD; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM Monday, August 8, at the Allen and Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira St., Williamsport, with Congregational member Marvin Hurwitz of Temple Beth Ha Sholom officiating.
Visitation will take place from 10:00AM until the time of service on Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport. In keeping with Jewish tradition, there will be no flowers.

James Dean Zimmermann
June 03, 1966 - August 21, 2005
James Dean Zimmerman, 39, of Doylestown and formerly of East Stroudsburg, died Sunday, August 21, at home.
Born on June 3, 1966 in Germany, he was the son of Rudoulph Zimmerman and Anita (Unger) Mahaley and lived in Monroe County for most of his life.
He worked as a refridgeration technician and attended school in the East Stroudsburg School District.
He was a volunteer paramedic and did alot of community service in Doylestown. He also volunteered at local children's summer camps.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his life companion, Kenneth Heffentrager, of Doylestown; two sisters, Jutta Zimmermann, of East Stroudsburg and Carmen Fears, of Pen Argyl; his step-father, Fred Werner Copley, of Burlington, NJ and nieces and nephews: Elias Mauricio, Rosie Mauricio, Zavier Holmes, Tammy Green, Curtis Green, Charles Fears and Tiarrah Fears.
A candlelight memorial gathering will be held on Friday, August 26, at 7:00PM at the family home, 121 N. Courtland Street, East Stroudsburg. Cremation will take place prior to the service.

James Richard Williams

It is with great sadness that the family of James Richard Williams announces his passing on June 11, 2018 at the age of 88 at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono.
Born April 26, 1930 in Coaldale, Pennsylvania, he will be lovingly remembered by his wife Louise with whom he shared 64 years of marriage; his daughter Lee Ann and husband Robert Stokes; grandson Evan Stokes; and granddaughter Allison Stokes.
Jim graduated from Coaldale High School and enlisted and served in the Navy during the Korean War. From 1961-1991, he worked at East Stroudsburg University. He started as the first employee of the computer department and after several promotions ended his career as the director of the Computing Center.
Jim, a generous and compassionate man, was an avid golfer, a diehard Giants fan, and a wonderful companion to the dogs with whom he shared his life. He and Louise loved to travel going on many special trips together. But, what he enjoyed most in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren whom he adored. He will forever be remembered as the most precious Grandad a child could have.
Services will be held on Thursday, June 21, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg; with visitation beginning at 11:00AM followed by the funeral service at noon. Private burial will take place at the convenience of the family at Sky-View Memorial Park in Hometown.

Walter A. Harris III

Walter A. Harris III, 56, of Stroudsburg, died Wednesday evening, December 6, 2017 at the Lehigh Valley Hospice House - Pocono in East Stroudsburg.
Born on June 8, 1961 in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Walter A. Jr. and Helen (Moore) Harris.
The viewing will be from 2:00 to 5:00PM on Saturday, December 9, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg; with a funeral service beginning at 4:30PM. Private cremation will follow.
Jane L. Martin
(April 3, 1917 - December 5, 2017)
Jane L. Martin, 100, formerly of East Stroudsburg, died Tuesday morning, December 5, 2017, at Mrs. Bush's Personal Care Home in Kunkletown where she was a resident for the past three years. She was the widow Paul Cunningham Lebrecht who died December 1971 and Charles E. Martin who died November 2006.
Born on April 3, 1917 in Charleston, SC, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Annie (Simons) Hasell and lived in Monroe County since 1987 moving from New Milford, NJ.
She was an elementary school teacher in New Milford, NJ.
Jane was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Stroudsburg, Colonial Dames, National Education Association, New Jersey Education Association, Bergen County Education Association and Stroudsburg Community Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Ann MacDonald and husband Rodney of Jefferson, ME, and Paula George of East Stroudsburg; a stepdaughter, Carolyn A. Whelan and husband Frank of Joppa, MD; three stepsons, Charles Reid Martin and wife Dorothy of Belmont, NC, Bruce A. Martin and wife Sue of New Bern, NC, and Napolean Joseph Martin and wife Martha of Barrington, MA; two grandsons; three great grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren; 23 step great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by twin sisters, Anne S. Hasell and Laura C. LeGare; and a brother, Samuel M. Hasell.
The funeral service will begin at 10:00AM Saturday, December 16, at Christ Episcopal Church, 205 N 7th St, Stroudsburg, with Rev. J. Douglas Moyer officiating. Private entombment will be at Mountainview Mausoleum in East Stroudsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to Christ Episcopal Church.
