Helen Louise Taylor, 78, of River Road, Watsontown, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2012 at her home.
Born January 23, 1934 in Mifflinburg, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Rudy) Tyson. She marriage George F. Taylor on January 24, 1959 and they have celebrated 53 years of marriage.
Helen was a 1951 graduate of Milton High School and a homemaker all her marriage life. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed Penn State Football. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family. She always looked forward to getting together for family picnics.
Helen was a member of Delaware Run Wesleyan Church, Watsontown.
Surviving besides her husband are two daughters and sons-in-law: Debra and Ralph Gundrum, Pittston; Brenda and Eric Blom, Sunbury; two sons and daughters-in-law: Steven and Leonida Taylor, Danville; Jeffrey and Susan Taylor, Lewistown; 11 grandchildren: RonnieMarie Rovenolt, Benjamin Jamison, Jr., Charles and Marcus Gundrum, Tara Marie and Clarissa Blom, Kristen and Jared Taylor, Kris Taylor, Mandy Jo Taylor-Eck, and Nathan Marino Taylor; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald (Debra) Tyson and a sister, Grace Taylor, all of New Columbia.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Taylor, a sister, Margaret Shrawder and two brothers, Wallace and Walter “Lee” Tyson.
Friends are invited to call Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM at Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway Street, Turbotville and on Thursday from 10 to 11 AM at Delaware Run Wesleyan Church, 5570 Musser Lane, Watsontown where the funeral will be held at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Michael C. Reece, her pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory be made to either her church or Evangelical Home Hospice, One Hospital Drive, Lewisburg PA 17837.
Oscar F. Hans, Jr.
Oscar F. Hans, Jr., 96, of Willow Road, Watsontown, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2012 at his home.
Born January 1, 1916 in Milton, he was the son of the late Oscar F., Sr. and Mary Alice (Binder) Hans.
He was marriage to the former Edna M. Middlesworth on December 9, 1937 and they have celebrated 74 years of marriage.
He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII on the USS New York.
Oscar retired from ACF Industries, Milton in 1976 where he had worked nearly 40 years.
He was a member of the Watsontown American Legion and a life member of the Muffley Huff Post 8206, VFW, Turbotville, and the NRA.
He had attended 18 reunions of his naval comrades over the years.
He was a founding member of the Watsontown Alliance Church where he had served in all the elected positions there over the years. Oscar had served on the zoning board of Delaware Twp., and on the Board of Directors of the Presbyterian Cemetery, McEwensville.
Surviving besides his wife, Edna, are a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Hans-Walker and her husband Richard of Wilmington, NC; a daughter-in-law, Ravena Hans of Charleston, SC; 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and a sister, Sara Hannahs of Baltimore.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis W. Hans (1951) and Oscar F. Hans, III (2010); three brothers: Frank, Clifton, and John Hans; and three sisters: Clara Auker, Verna Mae Ellis, and Elizabeth Leech.
Friends are invited to call Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM at Brooks Funeral Home, 124 Main Street, Watsontown where a memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday with Pastor Donald Jones officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Presbyterian Cemetery, McEwensville.
The family suggests contributions in his memory be made to the VNA Health Systems Hospice, 21 West Independence Street, Shamokin, PA 17872.
Betty M. Herald
Betty M. Herald, 83, of Watsontown, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Kramm’s Health and Rehabilitation Center, Milton.
Born April 27, 1928 in Northumberland County, she was the daughter of the late Oliver F. and Ellen A. (Arbell) Culp. She was marriage to Russell L. Herald until his death January 18, 1982.
Betty enjoyed taking walks to the Watsontown Park and spending time with her friends and family. She worked at the Milton Shoe Factory for a number of years.
Surviving is a brother, Robert L. Culp of West Milton and Sister, Helen Weller of Milton.
Preceding her in death besides her husband were three brothers: Eugene, James, and Harry Culp, and a sister: Dorothy Robinson.
A private grave side service will take place at Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy at the convenience of the family.
The family will provide flowers and suggest contributions in her memory be made to Follmer Evangelical Lutheran Church, 353 Grange Hall Rd. Milton, PA 17847.
Forrest H. “Fory” Ranck
Forrest H. “Fory” Ranck, 81, of Watsontown, and a resident at Kramm’s the past 2 1/2 years, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Born in Allenwood, on April 11, 1927, he was a son of the late Charles L. and Winifred (Rishel) Ranck.
He and his wife, the former Betty I. Klinefelter, just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Oct. 17.
A 1945 graduate of Watsontown High School, he was a self-employed contractor, working with his brother, Russell, installing siding.
He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, Montgomery.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Doyle Ranck and wife Ruth of New Columbia, Daniel Ranck of Virginia Beach, VA, Donald Ranck and wife Robyn of Allenwood and Dwayne Ranck and fiancee Sharon of Montgomery; one daughter, Dierdre Combs and husband Ronnie of LaPorte, IN; three brothers, Arthur Ranck of Allenwood, Russell Ranck of Watsontown and Ralph Ranck of Montgomery; three sisters, Pauline Staggert of Montgomery, Phyllis Bower of Allenwood and Virginia Ocker of Northumberland; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Thelma Bieber.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Grenoble’s, 1Muncy. Officiating will be Pastor Roosevelt Brown. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
