Margaret Mae Bieber

Margaret Mae Bieber, 90, formerly of Crawford Road, Watsontown, died Sunday, March 29, 2009, at RiverWoods in Lewisburg.

Born April 14, 1918 in Jersey Shore, she was a daughter of the late Alfred Price and Florence (Koser) Price Leiby.

Her husband of 58 years, William L. Bieber, Sr., died April 12, 1994.

In earlier life, Margaret worked at the former Mosser’s Leather Factory in Williamsport. For the last many years, she was a homemaker and loved to garden and spend time at home on the farm with her family and her pets.

She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Watsontown.

Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Margaret L. Bieber of New Columbia; a granddaughter, Valerie Bieber Mertz and husband, Bradd of Milton; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Dodson of Milton; one sister, Mary Miller of Roaring Branch; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Price of S. Williamsport and Grace McCollin of Watsontown; three nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her only child, William L. Bieber Jr. in 1991; her brother, Virgil Price of Williamsport in 1989; and her brother-in-law, Raymond Bieber of Watsontown in 2004.

Friends will be received from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, at the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown, where the funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Officiating will be her pastor, Rev. Jill Seagle. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association, 57 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701 or the Haven to Home Pet Rescue, c/o Emily Snyder, 204 Ridge Road, Northumberland PA 17857.

Clara I. Miller

Clara I. Miller, 91, formerly of Muncy and Bloomsburg, died Saturday, February 28, 2009, at Kramm’s Nursing Home in Watsontown, where she resided for the past year.

Born March 23, 1917, in Kelly Crossroads, Union County, she was a daughter of the late Warren & Kathryn Baker.

Clara marriage Junior F. Miller on July 26, 1939. Together they celebrated 46 years of marriage until Junior’s death on September 20, 1985.

For thirty years she worked in the weaving department at Montgomery Mills. Clara also worked as a janitor at the former Turbotville Dress Co. In March of 1979 she retired from the workforce. In her spare time, she thoroughly enjoyed a lively game of bingo and playing card games.

Clara was a member of the Clyde Mowrer American Legion Post 323 Auxiliary of Watsontown; the Milton Moose Lodge 171 Auxiliary; a social member of both Muffley-Huff Post 8206 VFW, Turbotville and the Edward Smith Post 3428 VFW, Muncy. She was a former member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watsontown.

Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Donald and Elaine Miller of Montgomery and Fred Miller of Sarasota, Florida; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kathryn and Russel Mingle of Saylorsburg, Marjorie and Elwood Ackley of Bloomsburg and Betty Fleming of Milton; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin and Albert Baker.

Friends will be received from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, March 5, at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main Street, Watsontown followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m., officiated by Rev. Jill Seagle, pastor of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Watsontown. Burial will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Lewisburg.

Shirley M. Packer

Shirley M. Packer, 75, of 710 Ash St., Watsontown, died Saturday, January 10, 2009, at the Evangelical Community Hospital emergency room.

Born in Watsontown on April 24, 1933, she was a daughter of the late H. Franklin and Carrie (Newton) Jones.

She and her husband of 57 years, Charles E. Packer, were marriage October 27, 1951.

Shirley was a 1951 graduate of Watsontown High School. In 1995 after ten years of service, she retired from the Milton Standard Journal newspaper, where she worked in the circulation department.

She liked to crochet and thoroughly enjoyed being in the company of her family and friends.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Pamela S. Packer of Watsontown; two granddaughters, Scharliene M. Balliet and Tiffany L. Balliet, both of Watsontown; one great-grandson, Cameron Kautz of Watsontown; four nieces and one nephew.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Frank Jones and William Edward Jones.

Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown, where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. officiated by Pastor Gregory Davidson of Faith Lutheran Church, Lewisburg.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions in Shirley’s memory be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Dorothea M. Peters

Dorothea M. Peters, 89, of Northumberland, died Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born May 17, 1919, in Elmira, NY, she was a daughter of the late John and Aimee (McMillan) Murphy. Dorothea was a 1941 graduate of Elmira College.

Surviving are her husband of 62 years, George; one son, John (Carrie) Peters of Lewisburg; one daughter, Ann (Thomas) Williams of Dallas, TX; two grandsons, George and Michael Williams; one granddaughter, Shannon Peters; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 20, at Sacred Heart Church, 814 St. Louis St., Lewisburg, with Monsignor William M. Richardson officiating. Burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Edmundite Missions, 1428 Broad St., Selma, AL 36701.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, S. 2nd & St. Louis streets, Lewisburg.

Theresa R. Mack

Theresa R. Mack, 87, formerly of 407 Main St., Watsontown, died Friday, January 2, 2009, at RiverWoods in Lewisburg, where she resided the past 3 ½ years.

Born November 15, 1921, in Scranton, she was a daughter of the late Charles T. and Anna (Baltes) Reilly.

Theresa moved to New Jersey where she lived in Kenvil for 50 years. On Sept. 27, 1947, she marriage William James Mack at the Sacred Heart Church in Dover, NJ. They observed 48 years together until his death on Oct. 15, 1995.

For a short time Theresa worked at the Picatinny Arsenal and then took a job in food service with the Roxbury School system, where she worked for 23 years.

She attended St. Therese Roman Catholic Church, Succasunna, NJ, for 15 years and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wharton, NJ, for 50 years. She was also a member of the Roxbury Township Ever Young Senior Club and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. Theresa was well known for her delicious chocolate chip cookies and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, William J. and Susan Mack of Tannersville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith M. and Earl Harris and Sharon M. and Daniel Campbell, all of Watsontown; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles T. and Rita Reilly of Dover, NJ; two sisters, Adelaide Rutan of Mt. Arlington, NJ and Marie Briand of Florida; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John T. Reilly and two sisters, Loretta VanBuskirk and Anna Reilly who died in infancy.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, at St. Therese Roman Catholic Church, 151 Main St., Succasunna, NJ, with Father Davis officiating. Burial will be held privately in First Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Succasunna, NJ.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Arrangements are being handled by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown.
