James E. Stoltzfus

James E. Stoltzfus, Sr., 70, of 221 E. 9th St., Watsontown, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010 in Muncy Creek Twp. as the result of a vehicle accident.

Born October 4, 1939 in Lancaster, he was a son of the late Stephen Benjamin and Anna Mary (Heller) Stoltzfus. On May 8, 1960 he marriage the former Sandra Lee Miller, who survives.

Jim graduated from high school in Lancaster and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1975 he moved from Lancaster to Milton with Interstate Trucking. He retired from ABF Trucking, Carlisle, in 2002 after 17 years of employment with them. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 50 years, Sandra Stoltzfus, are one son, James E. Stoltzfus, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Watsontown; one grandson, James Stoltzfus III and his wife Samantha of Watsontown; one great-grandson, Nicholas Stoltzfus; and two sisters, Ruth Byerly and Shirley Teeter, both of Lancaster. He also leaves behind his Havanese dog, Lexie.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by one brother, John Stoltzfus, and one sister, Rita Rinaggio.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday. Burial will be held privately in McEwensville Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Charlotte M. Vognetz

Charlotte M. Vognetz, 80, of 245 E. 8th St., Watsontown, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at Kramm Nursing Home, Watsontown.

Born Oct. 5, 1929 in Gregg Twp., Union County, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Hattie (Johnson) Vognetz.

Charlotte was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Watsontown. She enjoyed sitting on her front porch in her rocking chair watching traffic go by.

Surviving are a brother, Jack Vognetz of Watsontown; two sisters, Jean Tyson of New Columbia and Martha Taylor of Watsontown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by one sister, June McClintock Hassinger, and three brothers, Robert, Allen and William Vognetz.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Highland Cemetery, New Columbia.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to Kramm Nursing Home, 245 E. 8th St., Watsontown, PA 17777.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown.

Mary Elizabeth A. Huffman

Mary Elizabeth A. Huffman, 100, of 11 Sycamore Lane, Milton, and formerly of 25 East Brimmer Ave., Watsontown, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2010, at home after a three-week illness.

Born in the Bellefonte area on August 16, 1910, she was the oldest daughter of the late Thomas R. and Ann Myrtle (Johnson) Allen. On September 15, 1940, she marriage Foster J. Huffman, who preceded her in death on March 9, 1977.

Following graduation from Watsontown High School in 1928 she attended the Williamsport Beauty School and a secretarial school in Williamsport. Mary worked for the Ordinance and also opened her own beauty shop on Main Street in Watsontown. In addition she performed babysitting services in the Watsontown area.

During the 1950’s and 1960’s she volunteered with the Girl Scouts. She never missed a year growing her vegetable garden, and sold her rhubarb, raspberries and vegetables to her neighbors and anyone else who inquired. Mary attended the United Methodist Church occasionally and in her spare time she enjoyed reading.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Helen Suzanne and Wayne M. Shively of Milton; two granddaughters, Amber C. Zimmerman of Milton and Arianne L. Brosius and husband Brian of Riverside; three great-grandchildren, Matthew W. Zimmerman, Cody A. Zimmerman and Abrie M. Brosius; and one sister, Margaret Greiner of Watsontown.

In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by two sons; two sisters, Madelyn McIntyre and Barbara J. Stephens; and one brother, Max Allen.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service and interment of ashes in Watsontown Cemetery will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Grace E. Newcomer

Grace E. Newcomer, 73, of 1305 Church Rd., Watsontown, died Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born August 7, 1937 in Watsontown, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Florence (Reeder) Reynolds. On March 8, 1957, she marriage Harold L. Newcomer. Together they celebrated 53 years of marriage.

Grace attended Trinity Wesleyan Church, Sunbury.

She loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite pastimes included playing bingo and cards, yard sales, watching Steelers football and eating cupcakes.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Rick Lytle of New Columbia and Brenda and Robert Ketchem, Jr. of Lewisburg; six grandchildren, Chad Lytle, Cody Lytle, Mindy Vlacich, Allysia Ketchem, Lauren Ketchem and Kellie Ketchem; five great-grandchildren and five sisters.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Peggy L. Newcomer.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, October 18, 2010 at Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.

Gerald K. Bennett

Gerald K. Bennett, 60, of 42 Shreck Rd., Watsontown, died Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born September 3, 1950 in Danville, he was a son of the late Vernon W. and Mildred I. (Strassner) Bennett. On October 9, 1971, he marriage the former Gail A. Voneida. Together they celebrated 39 years of marriage.

Following graduation from Warrior Run High School in 1968, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Presidential Helicopter Squadron (HMX-1) at Quantico, VA. Gerald was currently working as a quality assurance engineer at L-3 Communications, Williamsport. He could fix anything and enjoyed working on cars and with electronics. Gerald loved spending time with his family and friends, especially teaching his talents to his grandchildren. His favorite pastimes include woodworking, playing cards, hunting, shooting pool and sitting around campfires.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters and sons-in-law, Tracie and Roger Herriman and Jody and Gary Meehan, Jr. all of Watsontown; four grandchildren, Breanna and Travis Herriman and Tyler and Peyton Meehan all of Watsontown; one brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Sharon Bennett of Dewart; two sisters, Doris Badger of Lewisburg and Phyllis Sherman of Watsontown; one brother-in-law, Bright Badger of Bloomsburg; one sister-in-law, Faye Bennett of Gainesville, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Harold and Donald Bennett, two sisters, Lois Durlin and Janis Balliet, two brothers-in-law, Arthur Sherman and Robert Durlin and one sister-in-law, Charlotte Bennett.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown. A funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 Main St., Watsontown.

Officiating will be Rev. Daniel May. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Watsontown Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggest contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, Lycoming Unit, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
