Handick
William E. Handick, 76, of Hanover Township, died Monday, Nov. 24 [2003], at his residence. Mr. Handick was born Jan. 19, 1927 in Robinson Township to the late Edward and Stella Handick. He retired in April 1983 after 32 years as a steelworker with Union Electric Steel in Carnegie. At the same time, he also ran his cattle farm, helped manage his aunt and uncle's farm in Florence and was known to be there when his neighbors needed help on their farms. Mr. Handick served since 1983 until just recently as chairman of the board of supervisors and road supervisor for Hanover Township, Washington County. In leisure, Mr. Handick enjoyed spending time with family and friends frequenting auctions, playing euchre, and watching the Steelers, Penn State, the Pirates, and golf tournaments. Survivors include: his wife, Patsy; four sons, Barry G. (Linda) Handick, Dale A. (Marsha) Handick, Robert E. (Beverly) Handick and William E. (Linda) Handick, Jr., all of Clinton; three daughters, Cathy L. (Robert) Derosky, Wendy K. (Maurice) Stack and Sandra L. (Albert) Swoager, all of Clinton; one brother, Fred Schmidt of Coraopolis; one sister, Margaret Vietmeir of Robinson Township; and 14 grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Joseph M. Somma Funeral Home in Robinson Township. Burial was at Petrie Cemetery.

Johnson
Harold E. Johnson, 77, a lifelong resident of Coraopolis, died Wednesday, Nov. 19 [2003], at Willow Lane. Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 11, 1926 in Coraopolis to the late Bertram and Pearl (Coulter) Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Pearl Schneider and Imogene Cluelow. Mr. Johnson retired in 1982 from Bell Telephone Co., where he worked in telephone repair for 35 years. During World War II, he was stationed in the Philippines as a Corporal in the U.S. Air Force. He was a graduate of Coraopolis High School, and a member of both the Presbyterian Church of Coraopolis and the VFW Post 402. Survivors include: his former spouse, Lois Krol of Eustis, Fla.; one brother, Bertram Gerald Johnson of Williamsport; and two nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were handled by Copeland's of Coraopolis. Burial was private at Allegheny County Memorial Park.

Keppel
John Keppel, 95, of Coraopolis, died Saturday, Nov. 15 [2003], at Mariner HCC of the West Hills. Mr. Keppel was born Oct. 18, 1908 in West Copley to the late John and Mary (Yost) Keppel. He was a retired molder with the E.W. Bliss Corp. in the South Side of Pittsburgh. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine, his son, John E. Keppel, and one brother, Edward Keppel. Survivors include: two daughters, Eleanor Clark of Cranberry Township and Joanne Chenot of Ingram; two brothers, Joseph Keppel of Florida and Walter Keppel of Moon Township; one sister, Hilda Todora of Florida; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Copeland's of Coraopolis. Burial was at Coraopolis Cemetery.

Meinert
Grace (Hyde) Meinert, 87, a Neville Island resident most of her life, died Monday, Nov. 24 [2003], at her residence. Mrs. Meinert was born Oct. 17, 1916 in Pittsburgh to the late Joseph S. and Margaret (Koerner) Hyde. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, two sisters, Margaret Gibb and Katherine Talarico, and two brothers, Joseph and Richard Hyde. Mrs. Meinert retired in 1986 from Talarico Motors (located both in Moon Township and Coraopolis), where she had been a bookkeeper. She will most fondly be remembered for her love of animals and gardening. Memorial contributions may be made to the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1101 Western Ave., Pittsburgh, 15212. Naleppa
William J. Naleppa, 75, of Robinson Township, died Thursday, Nov. 13 [2003], at his residence. Mr. Naleppa was born Jan. 7, 1928 in Carnegie to the late Albert and Anne Naleppa. Since April of 1961, he was the owner and manager of his Auto Body Shop and Towing Company on Campbell's Run Road in Robinson Township. He retired in 1988 and turned over operations to his son, Jim. Mr. Naleppa will be remembered by family and friends for being a workaholic who still found time to enjoy such things as fishing, small game hunting and tending to his vegetable garden. They will also remember how he adored his grandchildren, for whom he served as chauffeur for wherever they wished to go. Mr. Naleppa served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 2nd Class during World War II. Survivors include: his wife, Nancy; two sons, James F. (Nancy) Naleppa of Robinson Township and William W. Naleppa, Jr. of Butler; one daughter, Patricia A. Pagano
Carmella Lacopo Pagano, 87, of Coraopolis, died Sunday, Nov. 23 [2003]. Mrs. Pagano was born Sept. 14, 1916 in Italy. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and its Christian Mothers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael L. Pagano. Survivors include: her husband, Antonio Lacopo; two sons, Anthony (Darlene) Pagano of Chicago and Michael (Linda) Pagano of Florida; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Anthony J. Sanvito, Inc., Funeral Home in Coraopolis.

Shoop
James William Shoop, Sr., 90, a Coraopolis resident most of his life, died Sunday, Nov. 30 [2003], at his residence. Mr. Shoop was born Oct. 12, 1913 in Coraopolis to the late Florence (Rhodes) and James William Shoop. He was retired from the J & L Steel Corp., Aliquippa Works, was a veteran of the National Guard and a former member of the Coraopolis Volunteer Firemen. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shoop was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include: his wife, Cecilia Rose; two sons, James William Shoop, Jr. of Hopewell and Frank 'Butch' Maienfisch Shoop of Coraopolis; four daughters, Catherine 'Sis' Roithner of Emleton, Sally Shoop, Bobbie Shoop Bell and Karen Shoop Moore, all of Coraopolis; one brother, Dale McCutcheon of Coraopolis; one sister, Hannah Mae Baucant of Coraopolis; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Wayne
Perry C. Wayne, Jr., 64, former borough manager of Coraopolis, died Wednesday, Nov. 26 [2003], at his residence. Mr. Wayne was born Feb. 8, 1939 in New Castle to the late Perry C. Sr. and Anna Mae (Stansfield) Wayne. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Wayne. Mr. Wayne was a resident of Coraopolis for two years. He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Coraopolis. He was a 15-year member of Beaver Falls Volunteer Fire Department and held offices of president and vice-president and was a member of the Fireman's Relief Association, where he was the secretary. He was owner and operator of Wayne Trucking, now known as Wayne Transportation. Mr. Wayne also was borough manager of Cambridge Springs from 1995-2000, and was borough manager of Coraopolis, where he retired in 2003. Survivors include: his wife, Jane; two sons, Perry C. (Kathleen) Wayne III of Hopewell Township and John E. (Tiffany) Wayne of Beaver Falls; and three grandchildren. Lidington
Grace E. Lidington, 87, of Zelienople, and formerly of Cranberry Township, died Jan. 5 [2004] at Passavant Health Center, where she has lived since 1996. Born in Lowellville, Ohio, on May 2, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Lowry and Maude Wimer. A homemaker, Mrs. Lidington was a member of Dutilh United Methodist Church in Cranberry and was a member of the Cranberry Senior Citizens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus Lidington, who died April 2, 1976, and a son, Raymond Lidington. Surviving are two close friends, Mary Scherich and Jane Elston, both of Cranberry Township. Services and interment in Shenango Valley Cemetery were private.

Marilyn E. 'Pooch' McCandless
Marilyn E. 'Pooch' McCandless, 73, of Mars, died Jan. 8 [2004], at UPMC Passavant Hospital in the Town of McCandless. Born in Mars on May 9, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Paul R. and Grace Mays Davidson. She was a retired sales clerk for Penney Hardware in Mars. She was a member of Old Union Presbyterian Church, the Mars Chapter 271, Order of the Eastern Star, the Mars AARP and the Mars V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband, Gerald D. 'Pete' McCandless; a son, Paul D. McCandless of Shaler Twp.; two daughters, Paula Condon and Robin Kennedy, both of Mars; six children, Ryan and Jason McCandless, Heather and Krista Condon and Matthew and Melissa Kennedy; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Davidson, of Zelienople; and a good friend, Pearl McWilliams of Mars. She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul L. Davidson. Friends were received at a memorial service in Old Union Presbyterian Church. Carbiener
Audrey (Carroll) Carbiener, 75, a Moon Township resident for 40 years, died Friday, Jan. 9 [2004], at Mariner Health Care Center of West Hills. Ms. Carbiener was born Jan. 23, 1928 to the late Frank E. and Marie V. (Cunningham) Carroll. She was employed for 20 years by the Aviation Department of Allegheny County, retiring in 1963. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Frank E. Carroll, Jr. and Robert E. Carroll. Survivors include: one brother, Walter J. Carroll of Moon Township; one sister, Shirley Hanson of Tucson, Ariz.; and nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Arrangements were handled by Copeland's of Moon Township. Burial was at Smithfield East End Cemetery.

Dickson
Dennis R. Dickson, 50, an Oakdale resident since September and formerly of Crescent, died Thursday, Jan. 15 [2004], at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Mr. Dickson was born June 19, 1953 in Pittsburgh to Paul and Lula (Dysert) Dickson of Moon Township. He was a member of the Plumbers/Steamfitters Local No. 47 from 1973-1989. He was the former owner of Essex Beer Distributor in Imperial. He was a 1971graduate of Moon High School and had attended St. Catherine's of Siena in Wireton. Mr. Dickson was preceded in death by his wife, Karen. Survivors include: one son, Eric Dickson of Crescent; one daughter, Leah Dickson of Crescent; three brothers, Paul Dickson of Moon Township, Larry Dickson of Kennedy Township and David Dickson of Sewickley; three sisters, Lois Dydek of Moon Township, Deborah Barone of Kennedy Township and Terri Dickson of Brighton Township; and many nieces and nephews. Kenneth
Sister Mary Kenneth, Mary Gertrude Schall, 60, a Felician Sister of the Coraopolis Province, died Thursday, Jan. 1 [2004], at UPMC St. Margaret Hospital in Pittsburgh following a valiant struggle against multiple illnesses. Sister Kenneth was in the 43rd year of religious life. Sister Mary Kenneth was born in Hastings, the daughter of the late John J. and Mary g. Schall. A member of St. Bernard Parish, she attend the parish elementary school. She was a 1961 graduate of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School in Coraopolis, from which she entered the Felician Sisters. Sister Kenneth received the habit of the order in 1962 and made her first profession of vows in 1963. She professed final vows in 1969. Early in her religious life, Sister Kenneth began her lifelong work in the ministry of health care. She received a bachelor's degree in nursing from Madonna University, Livonia, Mich., in 1969, and a master's degree in nursing from Duquesne in 1990. She also completed the requirements for certification as a nursing home administrator at the same time. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the international honor society of nursing. Sister served a total of eight years at the Felician Sisters' St. Joseph Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla., and at various other hospitals throughout the country. She also served as a nurse and later as director of nursing at St. Joseph Hall Infirmary at the provincial house. After earning her master's degree, she was employed for more than five years, first as an assistant administrator and then as an administrator, by the St. Francis Health System in Pittsburgh. Failing health forced her to resign as administrator of St. Francis Medical Center North in July of 1996. Despite a series of debilitating illnesses, she assumed the role of medical insurance facilitator for the sisters of the Coraopolis province in 1997, a role she filled conscientiously until her death. In addition to her parents, Sister Kenneth was preceded in death by her brother, John. Survivors include: one brother, Regis of Cassandra; four sisters, Grace Fredo of Hastings, Delores Bolette of Pittsburgh, Loretta Bernard of Blasdell, N.Y. and Donna Fredo of Emsworth; and their spouses, nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the Felician Sisters Renovation Fund or a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements were handled by Anthony J. Sanvito Funeral Home in Coraopolis. Krall
Mary A. Krall, 96, of Robinson Township, died Saturday, Jan. 3 [2004], at Kane Scott Regional Center. Mrs. Krall was born July 6, 1907 in Pittsburgh to the late John and Mary Andrascik. She worked for 32 years as a cook on Brunot Island for Duquesne Light Co. Cooking, along with baking, was one thing Mary enjoyed. Mrs. Krall was also preceded in death by one son, James, and one daughter, Betty Petrone. Survivors include: one son, Bernard R. Kriger of Robinson Township; one daughter, Henrietta B. Darak of Robinson Township; one brother, Joseph Andrascik of Robinson Township; one sister, Helen Ceyrolles of Robinson Township; and 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Hopson
Carlton E. 'Hoppy' Hopson, 72, of Imperial, died Sunday, Jan. 4 [2004], at his residence. Mr. Hopson was born May 3, 1931 in Roanoke, Va. To the late Bernie and Mae (Doyle) Hopson. He had worked at Homestead Valve of Coraopolis as a compound mixer before retiring. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in Korea. Survivors include: his wife, Etsuko; two sons, William Hopson of York and Thomas Hopson of Norfolk, Va.; three daughters, June Miller of Clinton, Kathleen Turner of Imperial and Pamela Benton of Cecil; one sister, Grace Adams of Roanoke, Va.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Dorothy Johnson, 75, a lifelong resident of Neville Island, died Thursday, Jan. 1 [2004], at Ohio Valley Hospital. Mrs. Johnson was born May 10, 1928 in Neville Township to the late John and Gertrude (Kirkebo) Natwick. She was preceded in death by her husband, John. Mrs. Johnson was a former employee of Dravo Corp. and a member of Neville Island Presbyterian Church. Survivors include: three sons, Erie J. (Carol) Johnson of Moon Township, David P. Johnson of Bloomfield and Ronald C. (Beata) Johnson of Germany; one brother, Arvid Natwick of California; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth M. Jones, 88, a Coraopolis resident since 1928, died Sunday, Jan. 4 [2004]. Ms. Jones was born Jan. 19, 1915 in O'Hara Township to the late Isaac and Jean (Lang) Jones. She was a devote member of 50 years of the Presbyterian Church of Coraopolis (Formerly Mt. Calvary United Presbyterian Church), a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, the Coraopolis Sewickley A.A.U.W., the Ft. Vance Chapter of O.E.S. No. 550 and the Pittsburgh Doll Club. She was a 1937 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. She was preceded in death by three siblings, Dr. Emily Jones, Nellie Walter and I. Robert Jones. Survivors include: one brother, Charles Jones of O'Hara Township; numerous nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. Arrangements were handled by Copeland's of Coraopolis.

Lucenti
Theresa Ann (Candalise) Lucenti, 82, a resident of Coraopolis for 47 years, died Sunday, Jan. 11 [2004]. Mrs. Lucenti was born Oct. 15, 1921 in Powellton, W.Va., to the late Joseph and Catherine (Iaquinto) Candalise. She was also preceded in death by one sister and four brothers. Mrs. Lucenti was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Coraopolis, where she was also a member of the Christian Mothers Association. She retired in 1974 after being a butcher for 14 years at Sardello's Grocery Store in Coraopolis. Survivors include: her husband, John; two daughters, Mary Catherine (David) Bates of Cranberry Township and Joann (Ted) Howe of Independence Township; one sister, Barbara Iaquinto of Boomer, W.Va.; and four grandchildren. Mancuso
Mary L. Mancuso, 83, a resident of Coraopolis since 1957, died Monday, Jan. 5 [2004], at her residence. Ms. Mancuso was born Sept. 7, 1920 in Washington to the late Thomas and Madeline (Grande) Mancuso. She was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Coraopolis. She served on the Council of St. Joseph Church for many years. She was a member of the Christian Mothers Association, Daughters of America No. 965 and the St. Anthony's congregation. She retired in 1986 from National City Bank in Coraopolis, where she was a secretary for 16 years. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Esther Cariati, Rose Patterson and Lena Nicastro. Survivors include: one sister, Neva Lucero of Coraopolis; numerous nieces and nephews; and many grand nieces and nephews. Marchese
Marilyn (Kozak) Marchese, 62, of East Hartford, Conn. and formerly of Coraopolis, died Wednesday, Jan. 7 [2004]. Mrs. Marchese was born in Pittsburgh to the late Samuel E. and Rose (Lamark) Kozak. She had resided in the East Hartford community for 40 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Manchester and its choir and had been employed by the East Hartford Board of Education. She was also a former member of the East Hartford Women's Club and the South Windsor Kennel Club. Survivors include: her husband, Richard; two sons, Jeffrey M. Marchese of New Britain, Conn. and Anthony C. Marchese of Niantic, Conn.; one daughter, Jennifer LoGrasso of South Windsor, Conn.; two sisters, Nancy Kozak of Harrisburg and Linda Kozak of Clearwater, Fla.; and two granddaughters. Marion Phillips, 89, of Robinson Township, died Friday, Dec. 26 [2003], at Country Meadows Nursing Center. Mrs. Phillips was born Oct. 19, 1914 to the late James and Marion Alexander. She was a homemaker and a member of Moon Run United Presbyterian Church. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, James and Robert. Survivors include: her husband, Raymond; one son, Donald G. Phillips of Livingston, Texas; two brothers, George Alexander of Yarnell, Ariz. and John Alexander or Ormand By The Sea, Fla.; two sisters, Elizabeth Daniels of Ormand By The Sea, Fla. and Jean Nonnenberg of Bridgeville; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Ptacek
Lada L. Ptacek, 91, of Coraopolis, died Saturday, Jan. 17 [2004], at his residence. Mr. Ptacek was born May 16, 1912 in Bridgeport, Ohio to the late James and Anna (Novy) Ptacek. He retired in 1973 from R.B.W. after being a machinist for them for 41 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatamia Roman Catholic Church in Hopewell Township. He loved to Polka and sing. Survivors include: his wife, Dolores; two sons, David A. (Dottie) Placek of Washington and Edward F. (Carol) Placek of Daytona Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Alaine (Ed) Hart of Stowe Township, Patricia (Regis) Yoest of Daytona Beach, Fla. and Barbara (Bud) Hudenski of Moon Township; two brothers, Joe Ptacek of California and Frank Ptacek of New Mexico; and 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Josette 'Josey' Randazza, 46, a resident of Coraopolis for seven years, died Monday, Jan. 5 [2004], at her residence. Mrs. Randazza was born Sept. 22, 1957 in Quebec City, Canada to Jacque Marceau and the late Monquie Gouvin. She was a customer representative and loan officer for National City Bank in Robinson Township. Survivors include: her husband, Frank; one sister, Bridgette Marceau of Quebec City, Canada; and one niece. Randolph
Florence P. 'Boots' (Rucker) Randolph, 78, of Detroit, formerly of Coraopolis, died Thursday, Jan. 1 [2004], at her residence. Ms. Randolph was born June 2, 1925 in Pittsburgh to Lula Mae (Buntin) Rucker of Coraopolis and the late Richard Rucker. She attended Coraopolis schools and was retired nurses' assistant at Eye & Ear Hospital as well as West Penn Hospital. She was preceded in death by her son, Columbus, and her grandson, Garland. Survivors include: three sons, Royce Daniels of Ft. Washington, Md., Wallace Allen Castile of Pittsburgh and Tyrone Martin Castile of Indiana; one daughter, Lula May Daniels of Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, Richard Rucker of Coraopolis and George Rucker of Ft. Washington, Md.; four sisters, Lucy Holmes of Coraopolis, Maxine Collins of Crafton, Ruth Brewer of Indianapolis, Ind. And Rose Thompkins of Pittsburgh; and two granddaughters. Recker
Ashley Michele Recker, 2, of Pittsburgh, died Thursday, Jan. 15 [2004]. Ashley was born Dec. 6, 2001 in Pittsburgh, the daughter of Brian and Michele Recker. She attended Parent's First Choice Day Care and Sharon Community Presbyterian Church. Even through her struggles, Ashley always had a joyful smile for everyone, and a thankful heart. She will be loved and cherished by all and will be sadly missed. She was the granddaughter of Onny Schwerin of Moon Township. Ashley was the niece of Patty and Mark Schwerin and Holly and Charles Recker, all of Pittsburgh. Arrangements were handled by Copeland's of Moon Township. Burial was at Sewickley Cemetery.

Mark C. Richards, 52, of York, S.C., formerly of Coraopolis, died Thursday, Jan. 8 [2004]. Mr. Richards was born Dec. 21, 1952 in Sewickley to the late Robert C. and Edna Mae (Rodibaugh) Richards. He was a machinist for Valmat and was a member of the National Rifle Association. Survivors include: his wife, Nancy; three daughters, Kerri Lynn Richards of Coraopolis, and Kelly Jo Richards and Melissa Richards, both of Moon Township; and five grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Copeland's of Coraopolis. Burial was private.

Skibo-Grannis
Donald E. Skibo-Grannis, 77, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Neville Island, died Friday, Jan. 2 [2004]. Mr. Skibo was born in Pittsburgh. During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Chester. A few years later, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until he retired in 1968 as a 1st Sergeant. Following retirement, Mr. Skibo drove a truck for 20 years. He was a life member of the DAV, a member of the Masonic Lodge in El Paso, Texas and American Legion John P. Burns Post 36 of Tucson. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Grannis, and one brother, Robert. Survivors include: his wife, Dianna and her daughters, Debbie and Connie; his former wife, Henny and their daughters, Cindy, Patti and Janet; three brothers, John, Ted and Richard; and one sister, Ruth. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 5325 E. Pima St., Tucson, AZ 85712.
