Olich
Robert V. Olich, 68, of Hopewell Township passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at Aliquippa Community Hospital.
Born April 7, 1934 in Aliquippa, he was a son of the late Sam Olich and Anna (Mihalik) Olich.
Mr. Olich was a member of the Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.
He was a steelworker at LTV and J & L Steel for 28 years, a member of Union Local 1211.
Robert was also An Air Force veteran who proudly served his country from Nov. 1953 to Oct. 1957.
He is survived by his wife Joann (Durci) Olich; one brother, Rudy Olich and his wife, Pat, of Tempe Ariz.; one sister, Jane V. Delanko of Hopewell Township.; several nieces and nephews, Tom Hunt and wife Earleen of Aliquippa, Gary Delanko
and wife, Cindy of Chippewa; Denise Godich and husband George, Hopewell; Daryl Delanko of Hopewell; Melonie Strohm and husband David, Columbus, Ohio; and great nieces and nephews, Brandon Hunt and wife, Courtney of Elyria, Ohio; Brad Hunt and wife, Cathy, of Macadonia, Ohio; Courtney and Alexis Adams of Chippewa, and David Strohm, Columbus, Ohio.
Robert was preceeded in death by his baby brother, Ernest Olich.
Robert was a loving, caring and extremely generous person who will be missed by all.
Friends were received in the Darroch Memorial Chapel in Aliquippa, where a service was held, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery.

Paliotte
William R. Paliotte, 66, a lifelong resident of Monaca passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003 in The Medical Center, Beaver after a lengthy illness,
Born Feb. 18, 1936 in Monaca, he was a son of the late Nathan J. and Margaret A. (Chleba) Paliotte.
Mr. Paliotte was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and a retiree of the LTV Steel's Aliquippa works, where he was employed as a tractor driver.
He was a member of the PNA of Monaca, Monaca Turners and the BPO Elks of Rochester.
He leaves his wife, Rita Gene (Probst) Paliotte; three daughters, Tiffany Paliotte of St. Petersburg, Fla; Tina Paliotte and Tara Giddings, both of Clearwater, Fla.; two step daughters, Renee Oboczky of Madison, Ohio and Robin Schettig of Monaca; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs Frank (Catherine) Haney of Georgetown, Mrs Howard (Margaret) Miller of Rochester and Sister Mary Margaret Paliotte of the Sisters of Divine Providence, Warren, Ohio; and a brother, Paul Paliotte of Detroit, Mich.
In addition to his parents, Mr Paliotte was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert in 1946 and August in 1989.
Friends were in the Simpson Funeral Home in Monaca, a service was held. Private interment will be in St John the Baptist Cemetery, Monaca.
Pappas
Alice A. Pappas of Monaca passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2003.
She was born Jan. 19, 1929 at Glace Bay, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada, a daughter of the late David and Molly (Ashe) Clarke.
A resident of Monaca Heights since 1947, Alice attended the TOPS meetings in Bridgewater for the past several years and enjoyed crafts of all kinds.
She leaves her husband of 56 years, Harry R. Pappas, who she married on July 15, 1946; a daughter, Peggy Killinger and her husband, James of Uniontown; a son, Harry Pappas and his wife, Joyce, of Independence, Kan.; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Also surviving are a sister in law, Marge Cattivera of Monaca, a niece, Gina Cattivera and Ralph Hysong, of Aliquippa; five sisters, Blanche in Nova Scotia; Ethel, Nell, Molly and Florence and a brother, Dave Clarke, all of Ontario; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, all in Canada.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Baxter.
Friends were in the Simpson Funeral Home in Monaca, where relatives and friends attended a blessing with Father Frank Kurimsky, pastor of St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monaca, officiating.
Burial followed in the parish cemetery.

Eva Rabbitt, 88, of Aliquippa died Jan. 11, 2002 at Friendship Ridge.
She was born in Aliquippa, a daughter of the late Milan and Julia Zec.
She worked in the tin mill at LTV Steel and was a member of St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church.
She is survived by a daughter, June "Seya" Mabee, and two grandchildren.

Julia M. Baker, 82, of Independence Township died Jan. 19, 2003 at Beaver Elder Care.
She was born in Aliquippa, a daughter of the late William and Annie McHattie.
Mrs. Baker was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Baker.
Surviving are a son, William Lane; a brother, Herbert McHattie; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Michael J. Dobo, 78, of Aliquippa died Jan. 14, 2003 at Friendship Ridge.
He was born in Coatesville, Pa., a son of the late John and Mary Dobo.
Mr. Dobo worked in the seamless tube mill at LTV Steel and was a member of St. Titus Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Rosina Dobo; a son, Jeff Dobo; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Mildred Markovich, 91, formerly of Aliquippa, died Jan. 21, 2003 in Pickens, S.C.
She was born in Indiana, a daughter of the late Steve and Pauline Zatezalo.
Mrs. Markovich was a homemaker and a member of St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church in Aliquippa.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eli Markovich.
Surviving are two children, Eli Markovich and Martha Ruscetti; two sisters, Violet Zatezalo and Minnie Minitti; a brother, George Zatezalo; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Earl J. Neish, 59, of Hopewell died Jan. 17, 2003 at Aliquippa Community Hospital.
He was born in Aliquippa, a son of the late Jay and Rose Neish.

Jennie Thomas, 84, of Aliquippa died Jan. 24, 2003 in Sewickley.

Stephen Vranjes, 66, of Slovan, Pa. died Jan. 27, 2003 in Rochester.
He was born in Slovan, a son of the late Pedro and Dorothy Vranjes.
Mr. Vranjes was retired from LTV Steel and was a member of St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church in Aliquippa.

He was born in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Marko and Mary Zernich.

James C. (Chelly) DeChellis, 72, of Monaca died Feb. 5, 2003 at St. Anne's Personal Care Home in Hopewell.
He was born in Monaca, a son of the late Dominic and Lucy (Sebastian) DeChellis.
Mr. DeChellis was a steelworker at the J & L tin mill in Aliquippa, and later worked as a slot manager for the Tropicana Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Monaca, as well as the Monaca Saxons Club and American Legion, Sons of Italy and the Coraopolis Moose Club and Band Room.
He is survived by a son, Charles DeChellis; and four sisters, Viola Petrella, Alma DeChellis, Elsie Mandarino and Virginia Silvestri.

Caroline Guantonio, 79, of Monaca, died on Sunday, Feb. 2, in The Medical Center, Beaver.
She was born in West Aliquippa, a daughter of the late John LaRocca and Angela Silla.
Mrs. Guantonio had worked as an executive secretary for the federal government in Washington, D.C. and also was a secretary at Cranberry Township Post Office.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Monaca.
Surviving are her husband, Michael Guantonio; her daughter, Carol Orsini of Texas; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Alex "Lefty" Georgakis, 76, of Hopewell died in Hopewell.
He was born August 5, 1926 in Aliquippa, a son of the late Christ and Maria Georgakis.
Mr. Georgakis worked at LTV Steel and was a member of the Aliquippa Greek Orthodox Church.
He is survived by his wife, Marsha Georgakis; a daughter, Dorothea Georgakis; and a brother, George Georgakis.

McLaughlin
Sadie Louise McLaughlin, 90, of Monaca passed away Thursday, March 6, 2003 in the Aliquippa Community Hospital.
She was born Jan. 3, 1913 in Clay County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Carl and Hester (Smith) Freeman.
A resident of Monaca the majority of her life, Sadie resided at the Monacatootha Apartments for the past 22 years. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca and the Beaver County Senior Citizens Association.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank H. McLaughlin, in March of 1966. She was also preceded by three brothers, Clarence, Archer and Earl Freeman; a sister, Mollie McLaughlin; and a son In law, Dominic Matteo.
She leaves two sons, Frank J. McLaughlin and his wife, Martha, of Center Township and David E. McLaughlin and his wife, Charlotte, of Monaca; two daughters, Theresa Deem and her husband, John, of Vanport and Thelma Matteo of Monaca.
Her nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren were the light of her life.
Friends were received in the Simpson Funeral Home in Monaca where prayers were offered, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Interment was in the parish cemetery.

Shimrak
Sara E. "Betty" Shimrak, 88, of Monaca, a devoted mother, grandmother, great
grandmother and wonderful sister, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at
the Providence Care Center in Beaver Falls, where she had resided since1996.
Ashe was born Jan. 14, 1915 in Monaca, a daughter of the late John and Anna (Greff) Fenser.
Mrs Shimrak was a graduate of Monaca High School, class of 1933, and retired in 1975 from Phoenix Glass Co., where she was employed in the payroll office.
She was a member of the former Monaca Junior Women's Club and Senior Women's Club and served a number of years as the club's program committee chairwoman.
She enjoyed reading, tending to her rose bushes and taking walks. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Monaca.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Shimrak, on Jan. 25, 1970. She was also preceded by two sisters, Anna Sieg in 1989 and Marion F. Brown In 1996.
She leaves a daughter and son in law, Judy and Jon Kirkwood of Center Township; two grandsons, John Michael Kirkwood and Jeffrey Todd Kirkwood and his wife, Jami, all of Monaca; a great granddaughter and a sister, Helen Bianchi of Ambridge.

Zabish
Hanna Elizabeth Zabish, 86, of Rochester passed away Thursday, March 6, 2003 in The Medical Center, Beaver.
She was born Nov. 29,1916 in Union Township, a daughter of the late Adolph E. and Marie (Kost) Zabish.
She Is survived by two sons, John Wilson and his wife, Mildred, of Beaver and Otto Wilson and his wife, Grace, of Pittsburgh; 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one great great grandson; and by a very special friend, Mrs. James (Viola) Miller of Rochester.
In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Dorothy Duez and Harriet Holbrook.
Friends were in the Simpson Funeral Home in Monaca.

Ann M. Aegan, 83, of Center Township died March 20, 2003 in her home.
She was born in Springfield, Mass., a daughter of the late Peter and Jenny Mowad.
Mrs. Aegan was a homemaker and member of St. Frances Cabrini Church in Center.
She is survived by her husband, Harry L. Aegan; a daughter, Karen Hall; a brother, William Mowad; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Aynardi
Aurelio R. "Ray" Aynardi, 94, of Hopewell Township died Sunday March 16, 2003 in the Aliquippa Community Hospital.
He was born in Italy March 13, 1909, a son of the late David Roberto and Agostina (Grandis) Aynardi.
He was a 1927 graduate of Aliquippa High School and a 1932 graduate of the University of Wisconsin.
Mr. Aynardi was a retired chief inspector in the seamless tube department of J & L Steel in Aliquippa, was involved with the Boy Scouts and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Aliquippa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leah Aynardi, in January 2003 and by two brothers, Robert F. (Reno) Aynardi and Remo Aynardi.
He is survived by a sister in law, Nellie Aynardi of Aliquippa, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends were received in the Huntsman Aliquippa Funeral Home. Services were held in the First United Methodist Church with his pastor, the Rev. Howard F. Burrell, officiating.
Private interment followed in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester.
D'Agostino
Samuel Matthew D'Agostino, 82, of Aliquippa died March 15, 2003 in Rochester.
He was born in Aliquippa, a son of the late Joseph and Rosina D'Agostino.
Mr. D'Agostino was retired from LTV Steel and was veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during World War II.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Esther D'Agostino.
Surviving are two children, Sammie and Phyllis D'Agostino; a sister, Anna Kohler; and two grandchildren.

Figas
James R. Figas, 60, of Raccoon Township died March 21, 2003 in St. Anne's Personal Care Home.
He was born in Rochester, a son of the late James A. and Evelyn (Fisher) Figas.
Mr. Figas was a journeyman machinist, working at St. Joe Lead, Pittsburgh Tube and Babcox and Wilcox, and a veteran of the United States navy.
He was a member of the Monaca - Center Lodge 791 of the Free and Accepted Masons and the First Baptist Church of Rochester.
Surviving are his wife, Carol L. (Lutton) Figas; three children, James Figas, William Figas and Riki Dodds; a brother, Richard Figas; and six grandchildren.
