Edward F. Schmidt Jr. of Penn Hills died Nov. 27, 1998, at Shadyside Hospital. Born Nov. 13, 1929, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Edward Sr. and Loretta O'Neil Schmidt. Mr. Schmidt was a retired fitter with Lectromelt Steel and a U.S. Army veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Fred Schmidt. Surviving are his wife, Mildred "Mitzie" Short Schmidt; his sons, Edward Schmidt III of Harrison City and Hugh Schmidt of Monroeville; a brother, Richard Schmidt of Penn Hills; six grandchildren; and sisters, Audrey Herbien and Barbara Walker, both of Penn Hills. Beverly Viola Cunningham, 79, of Penn Hills died Nov. 17, 1998, at St. Margaret Seneca Place. Born in Pittsburgh, the daughter of William and Ethel Lees Glover, she was formerly a legal secretary with Dickie, McCamy and Chilcotte. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Glover. Surviving are her husband, Thomas E. Cunningham; her children, Kathleen Benson of California and Jane Smith of Apollo; brothers, Thomas and Earl Glover; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Porter; five grandchildren; and a granddaughter. Mary C. Palumbo, 93, of Penn Hills died Nov. 29, 1998, at her home. Born in Italy, she was the daughter of Michael and Nancy Naimo Mastroberardino. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Palumbo. Surviving are her son, Chester Palumbo; daughter-in-law, Mary Palumbo; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Friends were received at William F. Gross Funeral Home. Mary Ann Hall, 85, of Penn Hills died Nov. 24, 1998. Born in Munhall, she was the daughter of Michael and Anna Kuzma Merva. Alfred Contardi, 85, of Flagler Beach, Fla., formerly of Penn Hills, died Jan. 20, 1999, at Clyatt's Quality Care, Daytona Beach. Born in Penn Hills, Mr. Contardi was a retired automobile salesman and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. An avid golfer, he was a former member of Alcoma Golf Club in Plum Borough. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Jean Schnars Contardi; his sons, Allen of Longmont, Colo., Larry of Sebastopola, Calif., and David Contardi of Sunrise, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Maya and Leah Contardi. Florence Bogacz Cullen, 55, of North Versailles, formerly of Penn Hills, died Jan. 16, 1999, at Shadyside Hospital. Born March 6, 1943, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of Raymond and Veronica Staniszewski Bogacz, she was a member of St. Lawrence O'Toole Church in Garfield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John Cullen. Surviving are her children, Peter Cullen III, Raymond Cullen, Mary Jane Weiser and Jean Ann Stuchul; two sisters, Jane Bartoldi and Joan Moran; and seven grandchildren. Elizabeth M. Doyle, 95, of Monroeville, formerly of Penn Hills, died Jan. 20, 1999, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, Pa. Born Oct. 14, 1903, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of William and Mary Hines Haller, she was a homemaker and member of North American Martyrs Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Mary B. Moore, 66, of Penn Hills died Jan. 21, 1999, at her home. Born Jan. 19, 1933, in Walkertown, Pa., the daughter of Steve and Julie Settie Danyi, she was a retired housekeeper for Presbyterian Medical Center in Oakmont. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Moore; sisters, Emma Shafer, Betty Euzynak and Helen Danyi; and a brother, Steve Danyi. Surviving are her son, James Moore of Verona; a daughter, Charmaine Corrigan of Penn Hills; brothers, Alex Danyi and John Danyi; sisters, Percy Majors, Julie Zanella, Vernie Chruney and Ann Macalak; and six grandchildren.
