Death date: April 18, 2003 Mary Louise Bowers, age 84, of Hampton Twp., formerly of Coraopolis, on Friday, April 18, 2003 in UPMC Passavant Hospital. Born February 24, 1919 in Sandy Lake, PA, she was the daughter of the late George Bowers and the late Beulah White. Beloved mother of Darrell L. Bowers Sr. of Bakerstown, sister of Delia Theiss of Gibsonia, Almira Bryan of Florida, and Clara Belle Griffey of Coraopolis. Also survived by four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Mary Louise was a longtime employee of Homestead Valve in Coraopolis, PA. The family will receive friends Saturday 7-9 p.m. & Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Schellhaas Funeral Home, Ltd., 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown, Richland Twp. Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, April 21, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Ron Schermerhorn officiating. Interment will follow in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Dorseyville.

Margaret A. Walter, age 81, of North Side, on Friday, April 18, 2003, in UPMC Passavant Hospital. Born January 6, 1922, in Schmokin, PA. Daughter of the late Benjamin & Josephine Rokuski Stankunas. Beloved wife of the late Edward J. Walter and mother of the late Linda Napiecek. Loving Mother of Barbara Anthony of Brighton Heights, Phyllis Casper of Wexford, and Rosemary Price of South Hills; and one brother, Jack Stankunas of Philadelphia, Pa. Also, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Friends will be received Monday, 1-9 p.m. at the Schellhaas Funeral Home, Inc., 388 Center Avenue, West View. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Boniface Church of Holy Wisdom Parish on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. Interment in St. Boniface Cemetery.
John G. Burland
John G. Burland, age 71, of Bakerstown, died on Thursday, April 17, 2003 in UPMC Passavant Hospital. Born on May 9, 1931 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late John & Mary (Schroeder) Burland. John worked as an Elevator Operator for HJ Heinz Co for 40 years and was a member of local union #537. Dear father of Merilynn Wolfe of Bakerstown. Loving grandfather of Shannon Boring and Mary, Nancy and Barbara Boring. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers George and Charles. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2003 in Bethel Mission Church, Beacon Road Butler. Rev. Arthur Eugene Boring will officiate. Florence C. Hurd, age 85, of Ross, on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 in her son's home in East Palestine, OH. Born November 5, 1917 in Pittsburgh, she was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph P. and Florence Ritchey. Loving wife of the late Charles Hurd and mother of Charles Hurd of East Palestine, OH. Florence was a longtime active member of the Order of Easter Star. A private interment will take place in Allegheny County Memorial Park, McCandless on Saturday, April 19, 2003. Francis J. "Frank" Sims, age 76, of West View, on Wednesday April 16, 2003. Born January 16, 1927 in Pittsburgh PA. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Helen E. (Hirko) Sims. Survivors include his loving daughter Cheryl (Art) Towne of West View; 2 grandsons Scott (Dana) Towne of Emsworth and Todd (Lora) Towne of West View; 4 great grandchildren Joseph, Matthew, Mitchell and Taylor Nichole Towne, one sister Emma Corabi of Indianapolis, IN. Agnes M. Shearer
Agnes M. (McCarthy) Shearer, age 81, of North Side on Sunday, October 12, 2003 at UPMC Passavant Hospital. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on July 9, 1922 the daughter of the late Harry and Anna (Weber) McCarthy. In addition to her parents, Agnes is preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul E. Shearer; and a brother Harry McCarthy. She was an avid Church goer and a member of the North Side Senior Citizens Center. Survivors include four children, Edward (Arlene) Shearer of Shaler Twp., Arlene (Chester) Lewandowski of Beaver County, Howard (Lorraine) Shearer of Texas and Lois (Dr. Mark) Zelkovic of Greensburg; one sister, Margaret Wagner of Wexford; two brothers, Edward McCarthy of Illinois and Carl McCarthy of Pittsburgh; a sister in law, Betty McCarthy; also survived by 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Family will receive friends Monday 7-9 pm and Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Schellhaas Funeral Home Inc., 388 Center Avenue, West View. Victoria C. (Studnicki) Braton on Saturday October 11, 2003, age 88, of Pine Twp. formerly of Baldwin Boro. She was born on March 30, 1915 in Pittsburgh. She was the beloved wife of the late William J. Braton. Victoria was the loving mother of John W. and his wife Glenna Braton of Richland Twp. She is survived by her sister Hilda Ridosh of Mt. Lebanon. Victoria was the dear friend of Esther McAfee with whom she resided with for the past 12 years. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren. Before her retirement, Victoria worked for Isaly's Dairy. Roland E. Sabina, age 89 of West View, on Monday, October 13, 2003 in UPMC Passavant Hospital. He was born in Pittsburgh on February 14, 1914, son of the late Stephen and Rosa (Kolasny) Sabina. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sabina was preceded in death by his wife, Marion (Burns) Sabina and a sister, Edith Brenner. Mr. Sabina is survived by two children, Lynn Winters of McCandless and Jack R. (Linda) Sabina of Hampton. Grandfather of Pam Rihn, Kevin & Gregg Meyer, Michael Winters and Mark & Kristi Sabina. Uncle of Ruth Brenner of Colorado. Also survived by 10 great grandchildren. Roland was a member of Local Union #66. Dorothy J. (Holmes) Ulrich, age 74 of Ross Township, on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 in Suburban General Hospital. Born in Pittsburgh on December 22, 1928, daughter of the Late George P. and Henrietta May (King) Holmes. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ulrich was preceded in death by a son, David P. Ulrich and a sister, Eleanor May Baker. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jacque "Jack" Ulrich of Ross Township and a son, Glenn F. Ulrich and his wife, Lucinda of West View. Mrs. Ulrich was an active and devoted member of West View United Methodist Church and loved reading and painting. Family will receive friends on Saturday, October 18, 2003 from 11:00 a.m. until 12 Noon in West View United Methodist Church, Cornell & Princeton Avenues in West View. Service will immediately follow at 12 Noon in the Church with Rev. Myles Bradley officiating. Interment in Mt. Royal Cemetery. Rudolph "Rudy" S. Hoffmann, age 91, of Penn Hills, on Thursday, October 16, 2003 in Fosnight Retirement Home. Born May 8, 1912 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the late Frank and Anna (Bence) Hoffmann. Loving husband of the late Florence J. (Stevenson) Hoffmann. Beloved father of the late Jo-Anne Emanuel, Florence Hoffmann of Maryland, and Rudoph S. Hoffmann, Jr. of Richland. Brother of the late Emil Hoffmann. Also survived by eight grandchildren. Rudy was briefly under the care of Fosnight Retirement Home and was a member of the Bakery Confectioners, Tobacco Workers, and Grain Millers Union. Gladys was a retired registered nurse for private duty. Beloved wife of the late Michael A. Fromlak. Dear mother of Norma of Moon Twp, Carol Goode of Florida, Michael Fromlak of Mars, Darlene Spilecki of Cranberry, and Bruce Fromlak of West View. Also survived by 11 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by one brother James Riley and three sisters, Hanna Whewell, Grace Aftanas and Mae Bittenbender.
