From the Tyrone Daily Herald dated January 1, 1917:
Deaths in Tyrone during Past Year
Necrology of borough totals 97
The same rate of mortality is to be recorded in Tyrone borough as in 1915 when there were
seven more than in 1914, four less than in 1913; eight less than in 1912; 16 more than in
1911; six more than in 1910; 13 more than in 1909 and 11 last than in 1908, where there
were 101, 105, 81, 91, 84 and 100 and eight respectively. July, September and December
are the months during the year in which the greater number of our friends fell on sleep.
The changeable weather had much to do with causing much sickness to prevail ultimately
ending in death. Tyrone borough was entirely free of the infantile paralysis epidemic
