Harry Leroy Keeney

Harry Leroy Keeney, age 87, of First St., Wyalusing, PA, died on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002 at the Wyalusing Personal Care and Retirement Home.
Harry was born Jan. 7, 1914 in Colley, a son of the late Leroy B. and Ruth Bunnell Keeney. He spent his childhood on Sugar Hill and attended the Sugar Hill and Sugar Run Elementary Schools and later the Wyalusing High School. On March 1, 1940, he married Evelyn Potter of Sugar Hill and they moved to Wyalusing. The couple is well-known in the Wyalusing area, where Evelyn was a teacher and Harry worked driving truck for Robert Capwell, the Wyalusing Planing Mill for Earl Gamble, McCarty’s Garage and in the wintertime, cut ice at Mountain Springs. By the time of his marriage in 1940, Harry was working for Glenn Arey Lumber in Wyalusing and later in Wysox, from which he retired as a foreman after over 35 years of service.
Harry’s hobbies include fishing, hunting, baseball and bowling. He belonged to several fishing and hunting clubs, played baseball for the Sugar Hill traveling team and was one of the first bowlers at Mountainside Lanes in Wyalusing when it opened.
His memberships include the Wyalusing Methodist Church, the IOOF (Odd Fellows) and the Wyalusing Valley Fire Company where he was honored last year as the 2001 Veteran of the Year.
Surviving are his spouse, Evelyn, at home; a son, Robert Harry Keeney, Lewes, DE; a daughter, Barbara Heyman, Wyalusing; two brothers, Norman Keeney, Sayre and Walter Keeney, Allentown; a sister, Mrs. Mary Green, Orlando, FL; one granddaughter, Christine Heyman, Baltimore, MD; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 4 at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, One Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Beverly Davenport, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Wyalusing Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 3, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Jody Eugene "Jodster" Sullivan

Jody Eugene "Jodster" Sullivan, age 25, of Monroeton RR2, Monroe Twp., PA, died on Friday morning, April 12, 2002 as the result of a motor vehicle accident in North Towanda Township.
Born Sept. 21, 1976 in Towanda, he was a son of Karen Heath Sullivan, Robert Sullivan and Donald Johnson, Sr.
In earlier years, Jodey participated in Towanda Little League, Pee Wee Football and the Towanda Rifle Club.
Jodey was a graduate of Towanda High School, Class of 1996.
He was formerly employed by E. I. DuPont in North Towanda and was presently employed by Osram Sylvania in Towanda.
Jodey enjoyed spending time with his friends, hunting, fishing, the outdoors and big trucks. He will be deeply missed by his family and many good friends.
Surviving are his parents, Karen and Robert Sullivan of North Towanda and Donald Johnson, Sr. and his friend, Lori Tuttle of French Asylum; four brothers, Jason Sullivan of Ulster, Jonathon Johnson of Williamsport, Donald Johnson, Jr. of Athens, Daniel Johnson of French Asylum; his fiancee and the love of his life, Jodi Taylor of Towanda RR2; his grandmother, Mary Louise Sullivan of Towanda RR1; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral service was held on Monday, April 15 at 11 a.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with the Rev. Allen Hulslander, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Towanda, officiating.
Interment was in the Hillcrest Cemetery, New Albany.
The family received friends on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Miller "Rosey" Rosendale

Miller "Rosey" Rosendale, age 79, of his beloved Montrose, PA, died on Thursday, April 11, 2002 at his residence. Born March 25, 1923 in Montrose, he was the son of the late Allan H. and Mary Mollie (Miller) Rosendale. His wife, Shirley (Dodge) Rosendale died in 1992.
A 1942 graduate of Montrose High School, he served his country in WWII with the U.S. Navy and Marines in the Philippines. He was very proud to be a citizen of Montrose and also the times spent at the family cottage at Elk Lake and the Elk Lake Regatta during his younger years.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Montrose.
Rosey had a great love for the outdoors and woods. A timber cursor and heavy equipment operator, he worked for local companies including Irving Loomis & Sons, Montrose; the Pennsylvania Game Commission; the present Cornerstone Forest Products in Kingsley and other logging companies.
Additionally, he was a member of VFW, Ayres-Stone Post #5642, Montrose, Warren Lodge #240 F&AM, Montrose and Camp Comfort hunting camp, Middletown Township, Susquehanna County.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela D. and Richard Griffis of Tunkhannock, Suzanne R. and David Breese, Montrose; grandchildren, Dana Iannielli, Elizabeth Griffis, Amy Breese; sister, Marilyn Richards of San Antonio, TX; sisters-in-law, Mildred Dodge, Wyalusing, Virginia Smith, Tequesta, FL; nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife and parents, a brother, Allan Rosendale, Jr., predeceased him.
Services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 14 at the First Presbyterian Church of Montrose, 71 Church St., Montrose.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to a beautification project for the borough of Montrose, c/o PennStar Bank, 10 Public Ave., Montrose, PA 18801.

Nellie M. Owen

Mrs. Nellie M. Owen, age 91, of the Meadowview Senior Living Center, Montrose, PA, formerly of Spring Hill, passed away on Tuesday morning, April 16, 2002 at the Meadowview Senior Living Center where she has been a resident for the last seven years.
Born in Laceyville, on Nov. 7, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Israel and Lulu Brown Dickinson. She was the wife of the late A. Floyd Owen, who passed away in 1964. Mr. and Mrs. Owen were married for 32 years.
Mrs. Owen was a graduate of the Laceyville High School. After getting married, she was a housewife and homemaker for her husband and family.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Gary Sechrist of Montrose, Linda and Richard Voda of Silvara; five sons and daughters-in-law, Francis and Marie Owen of Laceyville, LaVerne Owen of Rome, James Owen of Mehoopany, Harry Owen of Tunkhannock and Daryle (Woody) and Carol Owen of Silvara; a sister, Mrs. Jennette Clark of Towanda; a brother, Howard Dickinson of Towanda; 26 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by four sons, three daughters and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 19 at 11 a.m. from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, with Rev. William Nelson, retired Methodist minister, officiating. Interment will be in the Beaver Meadows Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
Betty Louise Milarta

Mrs. Betty Louise Milarta, age 64, of Wyalusing, PA, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre.
Betty was born in Owego, NY, on March 6, 1938, a daughter of the late Lester and Nancy Wheeler Walters. She graduated from the Wyalusing High School, a member of the Class of 1956. She married Michael R. Milarta of Wyalusing on Oct. 26, 1969.
Betty worked as a bookkeeper for the former Vandervort Mills in Laceyville and the Wyalusing National Bank and Kintner Equipment Company of Wyalusing. She also helped many families as a babysitter for over 15 years until her health deteriorated. She really loved babysitting and considered all she cared for as if they were her own children.
A loving spouse, mother and grandmother, she truly loved attending the Camptown Community Church. After her health failed, she enjoyed reading and watching movies and was an avid New York Yankees baseball fan.
Surviving are her spouse, Michael, at home; three daughters and son-in-law, Wanda and Joseph Matuszak, Fleetwood, Donna Shook, Reading, Lindsey Milarta, Chicago, IL; special family friends, Kim, Raul, Maegan, Aaron and Adam Azpiazu, Wyalusing; granddaughter, Kayla Jo Matuszak; brothers and sister-in-law, Daniel and Lynette Walters, Stevensville, David Walters, Mehoopany; sisters, Beverly Walters, Laporte, Helen Jackson, Great Falls, MT; several nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Angela Dawn Milarta in Aug. of 1973; a brother, Robert Walters and sister, Jean Stone.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 13 at 12 noon at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, with the Rev. Helen Learn, her pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Wyalusing Cemetery.
Friends called on Saturday morning at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Elizabeth Kunkle, 97, of Wyalusing, PA, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2002 at the Skilled Nursing Unit in Towanda.
She was born on April 7, 1905 in Hollenback, Bradford County, a daughter of the late Charles and Eva Barnhart.
In 1978, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, the late Herbert Kunkle.
She was a lifetime resident of the Wyalusing area and was a member of the Wyalusing United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her children and spouses: Marion and Albert Stewart of Mertstown, Doris and Calvin Shaffer of Wyalusing, Veda Woodruff of Wyalusing and Vera and George Dean of Mesquite, TX; a sister, Viva Neese of San Diego, CA; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, David, Lucretia, Florence, John and Cecil.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 15 at 11 a.m. in the McHenry Funeral Home, 106 Church St., Wyalusing, with the Rev. Beverly Davenport, pastor, officiating.
Interment followed in the Wyalusing Cemetery.
Friends and family called at the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wyalusing Ambulance Association or to the Wyalusing Fire Department in Mrs. Kunkle’s memory.
Nathan Lawrence "Nate" Johnson

Nathan Lawrence "Nate" Johnson, 21, of Towanda RR4, Asylum Township, PA, died on Friday morning, April 12, 2002 as the result of a motor vehicle accident in North Towanda Township.
Born Jan. 25, 1981 in Asylum, he was a son of Anthony and Theresa Rohe Johnson.
Nate was a graduate of Towanda High School, Class of 1999, where he was a member of the wrestling team.
Nate was employed by Osram Sylvania in Towanda.
He was a member of the Towanda Gun Club Dart League and Take Me Higher.
Nate enjoyed hunting, fishing and big trucks. He will be greatly missed by his family and many close friends.
Surviving are his parents, Anthony and Theresa Johnson of Towanda RR4; a brother, Tony A. Johnson of Rummerfield; a sister, Amanda F. Johnson of Phoenixville; maternal grandparents, Geraldine Sick Rohe of Towanda, Lawrence V. Rohe of Dushore; paternal grandparents, Ronald and Doris Whitson, Elmira, NY and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family received friends on Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 16 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Allen Hulslander, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Towanda, officiating.
Interment followed in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills.
Donald Burr Glosenger

Donald Burr Glosenger, 80, 222 Chestnut St., Athens, PA, formerly of Sayre, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at home after an extended illness.
Born in Sayre, June 23, 1921, the son of Andrew and Freda Struhm Glosenger, he was a 1939 graduate of Sayre High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps (later in the U.S. Air Force) during World War II at Greater Ash Field in England as an airplane mechanic of B17s. He retired from G.E. Rail Car in Sayre after 20 years.
He was a member of the Sayre Christian Church, a devoted choir member and served as deacon and trustee over the years. He was also a member of the Skiff Bower Post #1536 VFW of Sayre.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marsha Ann and Michael Daly of Suwanee, GA; a son, Gary Allen Glosenger, of Athens; sisters and brothers-in-law, Edna and John Ryck, Sayre, Helen and Ralph Kelley of Sayre and Mary and Donald Campbell of Cayuta, NY; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Sally Glosenger of Horseheads, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife, M. Geraldine Glosenger in 1994 and his brothers, Max, Rex and Carl Glosenger and one sister, Ruth Lamb.
Family and friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lowery Funeral Home, 225 South Main St., Athens.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 19 at 2 p.m. with Rev. James Donahoo, pastor of the Sayre Christian Church, officiating.

Melissa "Missy" Saxon Chenot

Melissa "Missy" Saxon Chenot, age 30, wife of Andre P. Chenot of Towanda RR3, North Towanda Township, PA, died on Friday morning, April 12, 2002 as the result of a motor vehicle accident in North Towanda Township.
Born May 12, 1971 in Sayre, she was a daughter of Joel and Janet Rought Saxon. Melissa was a graduate of Wyalusing Valley High School, Class of 1989, and was employed by Osram Sylvania in Towanda. Melissa loved children and was taking home-schooling in preparation for a child day care center. She enjoyed playing softball and was a pitcher during high school. In later years she coached Little League and played in adult softball leagues. She loved the outdoors, family vacations and gardening. She also loved family gatherings at her home and being with her many friends.
Surviving are her husband, Andre P. Chenot at home; her mother, Janet Rought Saxon of Towanda; her father, Joel Saxon of Wyalusing; a sister and brother-in-law, Stacey and David Brown of Camptown; a brother, Michael Saxon and his fiancee, Kathy Korfmann of Wyalusing; brother, Joel Saxon of Towanda; maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Rought of Towanda; mother-in-law and father-in-law, LaVaughn and Charles Chenot, II of Towanda RR3; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charles, III and Lynne Chenot of New Bloomfield, Catherine Chenot of Rochester, NY, Charlotte and Douglas Banghart of Roanoke, VA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Harry Rought and grandmother, Marjorie McElwee.
The funeral services were held on Monday, April 15 at 3 p.m. at the North Towanda United Methodist Church with Pastor A. Michele Somerville officiating. Interment followed in the Mountain Lake Cemetery, Burlington Township.
The family received friends on Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, and also on Monday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church.

Kathryn DeWolf Ackerman

Kathryn DeWolf Ackerman, age 85, daughter of the late Silas and Emma Poole DeWolf of Jenningsville, PA, passed away at the Carpenter Care Center in Tunkhannock on Wednesday, April 10, 2002. She has been living in North Plainfield, NJ over fifty years. Since last July, she returned to Tunkhannock, due to illness. Her husband, the late John Ackerman, predeceased her in 1990.
Surviving family includes her sister, Millicent Willson, now residing in Wyalusing; brothers, George of Rahway, NJ, Walter of Lock Haven and Don of South Auburn; nephews, Tim DeWolf of Jenningsville, Walter DeWolf, Jr., Glenmoore, Jim DeWolfe of Camillus, NY and Bryan DeWolfe of Lincoln Park, NJ; two nieces, Kathy Foltz of Palmyra and Ruth Ann Nace of Jenningsville; a cousin, Clarence DeWolf of Russell Hill and many close friends from in and around the North Plainfield, NJ area where she lived so many years. Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold of Jenningsville, who passed away in 1995.
Kathryn was born in Jenningsville on Nov. 18, 1916, was baptized and was a member of the Jenningsville Methodist Church, where she was very active in the Sunday School and youth groups.
She graduated from the Laceyville High School in 1933. Later she attended Mansfield Teachers College where she earned her B/S degree in teaching. The next number of years was spent teaching in numerous schools throughout Wyoming County. Upon moving to North Plainfield, her position was with the New Jersey State Educational School System, where she spent the next 14 years. Upon retiring, she and her late husband, John, enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the U.S., Canada and many parts of Europe. She also enjoyed working in her flower gardens.
Despite her busy schedule, she found time to be active in other groups including Eastern Star, D.A.R., P.T.A., U.M.W. and held offices in her church and also served in the district level of the Methodist Church in North New Jersey.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m. from the Jenningsville United Methodist Church with Rev. Ann Blair officiating. Interment was in the Vaughn Cemetery in Mehoopany. Family and friends called at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville on Friday, April 12 from 2 to 4 p.m., also at the Jenningsville Church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Alice Marie Wood

Alice Marie Wood, age 80, of Terry Township, Wyalusing RR2, PA, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2002 at Memorial Hospital in Towanda.
She was born on Nov. 26, 1921, in Honesdale, a daughter of the late James and Elsie Stegner.
On Feb. 4, 1939, Alice married Alva G. Wood. Alice and Alva celebrated 63 years of marriage.
She and her husband were residents of the Wyalusing area since 1948.
Alice enjoyed spending time watching birds and enjoyed flowers.
She left surviving her husband, Alva G. Wood, at home; three sons and their wives, Alva "Bucky" Wood of Terrytown, Roger and Mary Wood of Sugar Run and David and Connie Wood of Terrytown; a brother and sister-in-law, Clyde and Augusta Stegner of Honesdale; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Hilda Wood; sisters, Neddie, Mable, Ellen and Ethel and brothers, Walt, Bill and Jessie.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 9 at 11 a.m. in the McHenry Funeral Home, 106 Church St., Wyalusing, with the Rev. Beverly Davenport, pastor of the Wyalusing United Methodist Church, officiating.
Friends and family called on Monday evening, April 8 at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

John (Jack) H. VanGorden

John (Jack) H. VanGorden, 102, died peacefully at the Elizabeth Church Manor in Binghamton, NY on Sunday, April 7, 2002.
Born May 25, 1899, Jack was the oldest son of Grant G. and Grace Smith VanGorden. He was a 1916 graduate of Meshoppen High School and a 1921 graduate of Bliss Electrical School, now part of Montgomery College in Washington, DC.
His wife of 77 years, Emma and their only son, John H., Jr. predeceased him.
Mr. VanGorden was employed by the IBM Corporation for 42 years, holding numerous executive positions. As the Divisional National Service Manager, Jack traveled to every state in the United States in a one year period.
He was a member of Binghamton Lodge #177 F&AM, Binghamton Chapter No. 139, Royal Arch Masons, Binghamton Council No. 24, Royal and Select Masters and Malta Commandery No. 21, Knights Templar. Other Masonic affiliations included the Royal Order of Scotland and the Kalurah Temple AAONMS Shrine.
In 1957, Jack received the 33rd degree from the Supreme Council. He was both an active and meritorious member of the Supreme Council. He was a recipient of the Gourgas Medal. The library at the Masonic Museum of Our National Heritage in Lexington, MS was constructed and named in Jack’s honor.
A former trustee of Alfred University, Keuka College and Houghton College, he also supported Broome Community College and SUNY Binghamton. He served on many boards of directors, remaining active with the United Methodist Homes for the Aging of the Wyoming Conference. Jack resided at the United Methodist Home for the Aging for 31 years.
Mr. VanGorden was a member of the Sarah Jane Johnson United Methodist Church and served on many committees, including the trustees for several years. He was the author of nine books of various subjects. Jack took great pride in his philanthropic endeavors as he anonymously supported several charities and needy individuals.
Funeral and committal services will be held Friday, April 12 at 10 a.m. at the Sarah Jane Johnson United Methodist Church, 308 Main St., Johnson City, NY, with his pastor, Rev. Dr. Daniel Ling, officiating. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Barber Memorial Home, Inc., 428 Main St., Johnson City. Contributions in memory of John VanGorden may be made to your favorite charity.
Glenn W. Shimer

Glenn W. Shimer, 72, of Birchardville, PA, died on Saturday, April 6, 2002 at Mercy Hospital in Scranton. Born Sept. 27, 1929 in Birchardville, he was the son of William and Lovica (Burr) Shimer. Last June 21, he celebrated 50 years of marriage to the former L. Marie Graham, who survives.
A dairy farmer, he also worked 18 years for the former Beech Manufacturing in Montrose.
He was a member of the Rushville Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Melvin and Bonnie Shimer, Roger and Sharon Shimer, all of Birchardville; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Floyd A. Shimer, of Birchardville; sisters, Sarah Wells of Endicott, NY, Doris Nesmith of Deerfield Beach, FL, Greta Bennett Defuniak of Srings, FL and nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9 at the Bartron Funeral Home, Inc., 74 Church St., Montrose. The family received friends on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Marion J. Nagle

Mrs. Marion J. Nagle, age 91, of RR2, Laceyville, PA (Indian Hill), passed away Tuesday evening, April 9, 2002 at the Carpenter Care Center in Tunkhannock, where she had been a resident for the last three months.
Born in Pittston on Nov. 8, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Jennetta Kuhn Bartlett. Mrs. Nagle was the wife of the late Edward Havard, who passed away in 1963, and also the wife of the late Carl Nagle, who passed away in 1995.
In her earlier years, she was a bookkeeper for the Stegmaier Brewing Co. in Wilkes-Barre, after which she and her first husband, Edward Havard, owned and operated the Skinners Eddy Hotel in Laceyville for 25 years, before selling the business in the early 1970s.
She is survived by a grandson and his wife, Edward and Diana Havard of Laceyville; a granddaughter and her husband, Kelly and Fred Purmort of Jasper, GA; three great-grandchildren, Katie Havard, James Havard and Nicholas Havard, all of Laceyville. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard L. Havard, who passed away in 1966, and a sister, Grace Biggs, who passed away in 1988.

Katherine R. Lattimer

Mrs. Katherine R. Lattimer, age 93, of Camptown, PA, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2002 at the Carpenter Care Center, Tunkhannock, where she had resided for the past five months.
Kate was born in Sayre, a daughter of the late James L. and Martha Bunnell Robbins. She was raised by her paternal grandmother, Catharine Bunnell Robbins as her mother passed away when Kate was 20 months old. She attended school in Sayre. Kate was married to Harold C. Lattimer of Wilkes-Barre at Harold’s parents’ home in Camptown on Nov. 29, 1930. They resided in Luzerne for eight years before moving to Lime Hill and later to Stony Point, Herrickville. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage until his passing on Feb. 4, 1989. She moved to Homets Ferry after Harold’s death to be near her daughter.
Kate and Harold ran a gas station in Camptown for several years. She also worked in the dress factories located by McCarty’s in Wyalusing and in Camptown. She was a great saleswoman and sold Avon products for many years.
Kate was a loving and caring spouse, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Harold C., Jr. and Mary Lattimer, Herndon, VA, Richard P. and Norma Lattimer, Oley; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Richard Neiley, Homets Ferry and Etta and Howard Covey, Fort Worth, TX; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ralph (Peg) Lattimer, Mercur Hill, Wysox; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Paron W. (Perry) Robbins and three sisters, Ruth E. Smith, Leila E. Zurn and Florence J. Lutz and an infant grandson, Donald Lattimer.
Funeral services will be held Thursday (today), April 11 at 11 a.m. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, with the Rev. Barry R. Ballard, pastor of the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Camptown Cemetery.
Friends may call on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Neoma Ruth Bradshaw, age 75, of Laporte, PA, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2002 at The Highlands in Laporte.
Ruth was born in Midland, TX on March 3, 1927, a daughter of the late Leo Noel and Jane Constance Carter Snoddy. She graduated from high school in Midland. She married John Barrows (Barry) Bradshaw, a long-time summer resident of Laporte, in Houston, TX on April 15, 1958. She and Barry, a petroleum executive, resided in Houston and later in San Rafael, CA where Ruth was very active with Mary Kay Cosmetics. Barry predeceased her on Sept. 1, 1992 and Ruth retired to Laporte in 1993.
She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Laporte.
Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Michael J. and Karen Bradshaw, San Jose, CA, Kim and Teresa Bradshaw, Alto, TX and Brett C. and Joan Bradshaw, Ottsville; a daughter, Constance Olivia Bradshaw, Cotati, CA; a brother, Jim LaRue, West Point, TX; a sister-in-law, Katherine Jean (Kit) Bradshaw, New York, NY; grandchildren, Chad, Gregory, Michael, Stephen, Tiffany and Travis and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 9 at 11 a.m. at the Laporte Community Church, formerly St. John’s Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Robert W. Brown, pastor of the Laporte United Methodist Church, presiding. Interment was in the Mountain Ash Cemetery, Laporte.

Rose G. Pipher

Rose G. Pipher, age 81, of Talmadge Hill Road, Waverly, NY, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2002 at the Bradford County Manor.
Rose was born on May 26, 1920 in Waverly, the daughter of the late Arthur Mandeville and Lillian and Roger Crawford. For many years, Rose and her husband, Harry owned and operated the family farm on Talmadge Hill Road. Rose enjoyed spending time on the farm and had a great love and passion for raising horses. She also enjoyed spending time in her garden, reading and being surrounded by her family. Her family especially treasured her beautiful gift for horse paintings and drawings.
Rose is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Ellen and Edward Gublo, Millport, NY, Linda and Roger Vaughn, who were her caregivers prior to her brief stay at Bradford County Manor; Donna Walker, Nancy and Timothy Mullen, all of Waverly; her sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Joyce Pipher, Glenn Pipher, all of Waverly, Calvin and Sharon Pipher of Athens; a brother, Ross "Rusty" Mandeville, Waverly; 25 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, Harry Pipher on April 5, 1999; a daughter, Ann Pipher on Dec. 9, 1947 and brothers, Walter, Donald and Joseph Mandeville.
Funeral services and a celebration of Rose’s life will be held on Thursday, April 4 at 11 a.m. at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols, NY, with Pastor Bruce J. Vanderpool.
Interment will follow in the family plot in the Chemung Cemetery.
A period of visitation and sharing memories was held on Wednesday from 7 to 9 at the funeral home and will be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Frances E. (Hallett) Hunter

Frances E. (Hallett) Hunter, 55, of Canon City, CO, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, March 28, 2002. She was born on Sept. 21, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Maude (Holgan) Gottlieb and the late Frank Gottlieb.
Fran was a lifetime, full-time homemaker. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 21 in Canon City, the American Cancer Society and the VFW in Pennsylvania.
Fran married her current husband, Josiah Hunter on Sept. 23, 1995 in Las Vegas, NV. He survives and lives at their family home in Canon City. Fran’s first husband, Raymond Hallett, Sr. resides in Minnesota.
She is survived by her husband, Josiah Hunter; her mother, Maude Gottlieb of Sugar Run; brother and sister-in-law, Andrew and Catherine Gottlieb of Oklahoma City, OK; a son, Frank Hallett of Washington, DC and granddaughter, Peyton Nichole of Dillon, CO; a daughter, Denise Dallas and granddaughter, Jordan Nichole of Onamia, MN; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Chris Adams and grandchildren, Kyle Anthony of Sugar Run and Shelby Lynn of Nicholson; a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond, Jr. and Michele Hallett and grandchildren, Amanda Mahally, Mikayla Renee, Raymond, III and Alexandria Nichole, Dushore; an adopted daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Marshall Lough and grandchildren, Jessica Marie, Charles Patrick and Maria Leigh of Parachute, CO; three stepchildren, Josiah Hunter, Jr. of Norfolk, VA, Amanda Hunter, of Cleo, MI and Heather Hunter, Indianapolis, IN; many aunts and uncles, as well as friends and friends of her children and grandchildren that she considered as her own children and grandchildren.
Her father, Frank Gottlieb, and grandson, A.J. Dallas, preceded her in death.
Our beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, mom, friend and grandmother will be forever in our hearts and greatly missed. Rest high on the mountain, Fran.
Memorial services were held on Monday, April 1 at the Holt Chapel of the Garden in Canon City. Funeral services will be held on April 7 at the home of Maude Gottlieb in Sugar Run at 8 p.m. with Rev. John Kita officiating.

Taylor Leigh Birchard
Taylor Leigh Birchard of Montrose, PA passed away recently. She was the infant daughter of Renee (Warner) and Lance Birchard.
Surviving are maternal grandparents, Ken and Joyce Warner of Rushville; paternal grandparents, Larry and Sheila Birchard of Birchardville; aunts and uncles, Eric Warner, Gregg Birchard and Autumn Wambold; maternal great-grandparents, Charles and Jacqueline Warner of Rushville and paternal great-grandparents, Seldon and Arlene Birchard of Birchardville.
There will be a private graveside service.

Norma M. McCarthy Anderson

Norma M. McCarthy Anderson, 90, of Montrose, PA died on Monday, April 1, 2002 at Meadow View Senior Living Center, Montrose. Born May 14, 1911 in the Montrose area, she was the daughter of the late Israel M. and Miriam O. (Jagger) Sivers. On June 23, 1990, she was married to John R. Anderson, who survives. Her first husband, Joseph T. McCarthy, died in 1967.
She was an assembler in production for many years, including working at the former Bendix plant in South Montrose for more than 25 years.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert F. McCarthy of LeRaysville, Alan D. and Sally McCarthy of Montrose RR2; daughters-in-law, Nina McCarthy of LeRaysville, Darlene McCarthy of Abbeville, SC; a stepdaughter and husband, Patricia and G. Richard Olmstead of Wilmington, DE; stepson and wife, John W. and Heidi Anderson of Eugene OR; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Violet Sivers of Fairdale; brother-in-law, William Hannigan of Binghamton, NY; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sons, Eugene E. McCarthy, Sr. and Martin J. McCarthy; a daughter-in-law, Yvonne E. McCarthy; granddaughter, Debra Ann McCarthy; brothers and sisters-in-law, Francis and Mildred Sivers, Robert and Catherine Coyle, Ernest Sivers, Rita Hannigan, Francis McCarthy.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 4 (today) at the Bartron Funeral Home, Inc., 74 Church St., Montrose. The family received friends on Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

LaRue S. VanDeMark, age 59, of Wyalusing, PA, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at Memorial Hospital in Towanda.
She was born on Nov. 3, 1942 in Kingston, a daughter of the late Corey, Sr. and Harriett Gromes Sickler.
On March 4, 1964, she married Joseph VanDeMark. They celebrated 38 years of marriage.
LaRue was a cook and had been employed by the Wyalusing Hotel, Mark’s Valley View, Betty’s Diner and had started at Lieberg’s Diner on Lime Hill.
She enjoyed time spent gardening, bird watching and she especially loved to cook.
She left surviving her husband, Joseph VanDeMark, at home; five children, Lorri and Rick Bellows of Wysox, Brenda Wheeler and Charles Birk of Wyalusing, Joseph VanDeMark, Jr. and Beth Alexander of Warren Center, Michelle VanDeMark and Donald Goble of Wyalusing, Maria VanDeMark of Camptown; sisters and brothers, Corey Sickler, Jr., Ted Sickler, Jr., Glen Sickler, Jean Mader, Betty Bates, Carol Wright, Cookie Argenio, Terry Sickler and Wayne Sickler; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Sickler.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m. at the McHenry Funeral Home, 106 Church St., Wyalusing, with the Rev. Beverly Davenport, her pastor, officiating.
Friends and family called on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the memorial service.

Esther Jane Smiley Hope

Esther Jane Smiley Hope, age 72, of Terry Township, PA, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2002 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
Esther was born Nov. 7, 1929 at home in Terry Township, daughter of the late Ivan and Ruth Bailey Keeney. She attended the Terrytown School and married Rodney Smiley of Granville Summit in 1945. Rodney predeceased her April 10, 1978.
Esther married James Hope of Lovelton on April 16, 1983. She worked for many years for the P&N Packing Company of Terrytown. She was a loving spouse and mother and very much enjoyed being with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her spouse, James Hope, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Chris Smiley, Terrytown; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ann Smiley, Terrytown, Penny and William Farley, Towanda, Debbie and Tony Kolodziej, Lime Hill; a brother, Charles Keeney, Spring Lake; six grandchildren, Nicholas Farley, Brenda Farley, Britney Kolodziej, Bryan Kolodziej, Samantha Smiley and Justin Smiley, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 25 at 2 p.m. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, with the Rev. Kenneth M. Seegar, pastor of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church, presiding. Interment was in the Wyalusing Cemetery.
Friends called on Monday at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

Irvin L. Hitchcock

Irvin L. Hitchcock, 86, of Montrose, PA, passed away peacefully at the Montrose Hospital on Thursday, March 21, 2002.
Born in Herrick Township on June 13, 1915, he was married to the late Wilma Oakes Hitchcock for 33 years. They operated Friendly Acres Farm in East Rush for 32 years.
Irvin was a school bus driver for Elk Lake School District for 26 years and was also an accomplished carpenter.
He was a member of the East Rush United Methodist Church and Willow Brook United Methodist Church, Sun City, AZ. He retired to Sun City in 1973 with his second wife, Evelyn Stevens Hitchcock.
Arizona is where he fell in love with the game of Lawn Bowling in which he was a championship bowler. Irvin was known to family and friends for his generosity and willingness to extend a helping hand.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Wilma; his second wife, Evelyn of 25 years; four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include two sisters, Belva Very of Rush and Iva Hitchcock of Endicott, NY; his sons and spouses, Eldred and Donna Hitchcock of Binghamton, NY, Leonard and Lorraine Hitchcock of Montrose; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Don Repsher of Laceyville; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; stepsons and spouses, James and Barbara Stevens of Hayes, VA and William and Betsy Stevens of Severna Park, MD; a stepdaughter and spouse, Sue and Willard Dyson of Springville and four step-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service at the East Rush Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the East Rush Church.
