Erwin G. Scherffel of Doylestown died Sunday, February 6, 2005, at Fox Subacute Center in Warrington. He was 75. He was the husband of Luise (Forberger) Scherffel. Born in Poprad, Slovakia on November 1, 1929, he was the son of the late Erwin F. and Berta (Benigy) Scherffel. Erwin had worked as an electro mechanical engineer for Loral Defense Systems in Horsham prior to retiring in 1992. He was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Philadelphia. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son Andreas L. Scherffel of Chalfont and a brother Gerhard Scherffel of Wellsboro, PA.

Timothy H. Fuller of Kitnersville died Friday, February 18, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem. He was 46. He was the life partner of Dawn L. Fluck of Durham Township. Born on May 11, 1958, in Abington, he was a son of Pricilla (Bunch) Fuller of Warrington and the late William B. Fuller. He was employed as a stone mason for 28 years with David A. Kirk Masonary in Plumsteadville. Tim was an avid fisherman and hunter. He dearly loved his dog, Honey Bear, who traveled with him everywhere. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Timothy H. Fuller Jr. and a brother, Brad Fuller. He was preceded in death by a brother, Christopher Fuller.

Janet S. Lukens of Telford, formerly of Chalfont and Glenside, died Monday, February 21, 2005, at Grand View Hospital. She was 79. She was the wife of David W. Lukens. Born on December 6, 1925, in Cambuslang, Scotland, he was the son of the late Charles and Rose Anne (Gardner) Stewart. She was a 1946 graduate of Woman's Medical College as a registered nurse. From 1976 to 2005, Janet participated in the nurses health study of Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Woman's Hospital. Janet was a homemaker, and enjoyed traveling with her husband. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, David R. Lukens of Litchfield, Arizona, Charles S. Lukens of Chalfont, and Janet L. Wall of New Britain; her brother, William Stewart of Seattle, Washington; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dr. Frederic G. Hyde, Ph.D.

Dr. Frederic G.Hyde, Ph.D., a longtime Philadelphia newsman and former facility member of Bucks County Community College, died Friday, February 25, 2005, at Grand View Hospital. He was 93. Mr. Hyde had lived in Warrington Township and in Chalfont from 1940 to 1975, when he and his wife retired to Port Clyde, Main. They returned to Chalfont in 1999. A native of Connecticut, Mr. Hyde was educated in the schools of Norwich and New London in that state, and received his B.A. degree at Wesleyan University in 1932. He spent the greater part of his professional career in and around Philadelphia. After working as a reporter for various New England and New York papers, he joined the editorial staff of The Philadelphia Inquirer in 1936, and was engaged there as a reporter, feature writer and columnist for nearly a quarter-century, until he joined the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania in 1959. While as an associate in journalism, he took his advanced degrees at the University, the M.A. in 1960 and Ph.D. in 1963. In 1965, he became one of the founders of the Bucks County Community College in Newtown and spent 10 years as a faculty member and administrator until his retirement in 1975. His final act at the college was to give the commencement address on the day of his official retirement. In the years just prior to his death, Dr. Hyde had been a popular instructor in English and American poetry atthe Center for Learning in Retirement, Delaware Valley College. His wife, the former, Floyda Needham, preceded him in death in 1999. He is survived by his daughters, Mrs. Frederica Holkey, with whom he lived with, Mrs. Judith Richardson of Ottawa, Ontario and Jennifer Hodgson of Camargo, Ill.; his son Christopher of Powal, Main; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Joseph W. Smith of Hilltown Township died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at his residence. He was 91.
He was the husband of the late Jeanie P. (McCahon) Smith. Born July 26, 1913, in Philadelphia, he was one of 11 children of the late Harry and Annie (Beatty) Smith. Mr. Smith had worked as a machinist for Budd Co., retiring in 1975. Joe's greatest passions in life were his family and soccer. He was inducted into the Soccer Hall of Fame and had coached at LaSalle College. He was a great man with a gentle spirit. Joe is survived by his grandsons, William H. Smith Jr. (Jeanette) and Todd D. Smith (Kathleen); his great-granddaughters, Neva, Stephanie and Sarah; one sister, Florence Hauber; two brothers, James Smith (Mae) and Thomas Smith (Mae); several nieces and nephews, and family and friends. He was preceeded in death by two sons, William H. Smith Sr. and Joseph W. Smith Jr.

Anna J. Schmidt, formerly of Haddon Township, N.J., died Sunday, March 6, 2005, at St. Mary's Manor, Lansdale. She was 85. She was the wife of 52 years to the late Walter W. Schmidt. Born in Philadelphia on June 18, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Maurice Mecklesh and the late Anna (Gegekas) Meklesh-Murphy. She was a 1937 graduate of Simon Gratz High School. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church in Haddon Heights, N.J. during the 1950's and 1960's. There she served on the PTA board and donated her time as a leader in the Girl Scouts. During the 1960's and 1970's, Mrs. Schmidt was a sales clerk at Strawbridge & Clothier at the Market Street, Philadelphia location. Anna was a member of the Legion of Mary. She served as a lector. She was also a member of the Altar Care Group at St. Vincent Palotti in Haddon Township. She is survived by her three children, Carol Anne Kerns (Michael) of Chalfont, Marie S. McKeever (James) of Telford and Joseph W. Schmidt (Wendy) of Columbus, N.J.;her brother, Marc "Buddy" Francis (Grace) of Vista, California; ten grandchildren; and six-great-grandsons.

Ethel C. Cramer of Reading, Pa. died Sunday, March 11. at her residence. She was 71. She was the wife of the late William J. Cramer. Born in Warminster on August 15, 1933, she was the daughter of the late William and Ethel (Falls) Hackenbruch. Ethel will always be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, and a great friend. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her sons, Michael A. Cramer and his wife, Jacqueline Lee, of Reading and W. David Cramer of Lake Auriel; Pa.; a brother, w. Theresa M.McCarty of Chalfont, formerly of Jamison, died peacefully Friday, march 11, 2005, at her residence after an 11-month illness. She was 74. She was the wife of 54 years to Thomas C. McCarty. Born in McKinley, Pa. on September 11,1930, she was the daughter of the late William and Olga (Bankert) Barr. Terry was a founding member of the Warwick Township Fire Co. and she served as past president of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was known by thousands of children and youth throughout the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for 18 years working at Camp Neumann in Jamison. Terry also worked in the administrative office of Warwick Township and she was Warwick Township's first woman police officer. Terry was a parishioner of St. Jude Catholic Church, Chalfont. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Bob McCarty (Maggie) of Laurel, Md., Terry Miller of Newtown and Donna Huttenlock of Jamison. she was the loving grandmother of Shannon McCarty Kelley, Matthew Hutenlock, Annie Huttenlock, Patti Krieser and Shelly Huttenlock;and the sister of William Barr of Abington Township, Edward Barr of Seminole, Fla. and Helen Dougherty of Horsham.

Catherine Stahl of Chalfont died Saturday, March 12, 2005, in Briarleaf Nursing Home in Doylestown. She was 80. She was the wife of the late Carl Stahl. Born in New, Berlinville, Pa. on February 2, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Annie (Rhoads) Shane. Mrs. Stahl was a homemaker. She is survived by her three children, Nancy Orlando of Chalfont, Paul Stahl of New Berlinville and Daniel Stahl of Boyertown and her brother, Harvey Shane Jr. of Boyertown. Also surviving are five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Born in Trenton, N.J. on October 7, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Ogden B. Gorham and Joyce (Gage) Gulowsen of Vero Beach, Fla. She was a graduate of East Stroudsburg University. Mrs. Anderson was employed as a teacher by Computer Tots for 15 years. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother and friend. In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by two children, Mary Lauren and Steven Wesley Anderson. Also surviving are her brothers and sisters, Marcia H. Robinson, Ogden B. Gorham Jr., Margaret A. Gorham and John F. Gorham.

Mary C. Rebstock, wife of the late Manfred C. Rebstock passed away peacefully at her home on March 17, 2005. Mary is survived by her three children and three grandchildren. She was a proud employee for 20 years for Porter Instruement Company of Hatfield PA. Mary was a group leader in the Dental Meter Quality Control Department. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends who were touched by her kindness, sincerity and compassion.

Born in Mechanicsville on November 27, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Sarah (Smith) Carver. Mrs. Williams was a homemaker. She was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed gospel music. Her favorite hymn was "How Great Thou Art." She will always be remembered for her generosity and kindness. She is survived by her daughter, E. Louise Watters (Raymond) of Perkasie; her grandchildren, Barbara Eves (John), Jere Geese, James Geese (Denise) and William Geese (Vanessa); and her four great-grandchildren.

Milton "Whitey" Craig Sr. of Doylestown died Monday, March 21, 2005. He was 88. He was the husband of Muriel(Shaw) Craig. The couple had recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Born in Trenton,N.J.,he was the son of the late Frederick and Margaret (Deising) Craig. Milt was employed by Philadelphia Electric Co. from 1946 to 1975. He served in the U.S. navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was an avid gardner and enjoyed tinkering. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Milton Craig Jr. and his wife, Joy, and a daughter, Merrily Henley and her husband, Marty. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Heidi Rimmer (Tim), Missi Dell Orefice (Chris), Chuck Olczak, Amy Bradley (John), Megan Zeigler (Rob) and Craig Henley (Sarah) and 13 great-grandchildren.

Geri E. Katz of Doylestown died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, after a lengthy heart-related illness and other complications at Doylestown Hospital. She was 57. Born November 18, 1947, in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Murray and Lillian (Babitz) Katz. Geri grew up in Rockland County, N.Y. She was a graduate of State University of New York at Albany, where she attained her bachelor of arts degree. Geri was highly respected in the field of market research and was employed by TNS Health Care in Princeton, N.J. She had been employed in different locations, including Los Angeles, California, Connecticut and Toronto, Canada. An avid reader and traveler, she also enjoyed her dog, Morgan. Her family and friends will dearly miss her. A sister, Mindy S. Katz, of Providence, R.I., survives her.

William H. Hamilton of Lisbon, N.H., formerly of Chalfont, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H. He was 88. He was the husband of the late Evelyn (Kunz) Hamilton. Mr. Hamilton was a former police chief for the Borough of Chalfont from 1961 to 1980. He was a member of Pleasantville United Church of Christ. He was also a member of Bucks County Police Chief Association, the Knight of the Golden Eagle, Castle 173, a member of the Patriotic Order Son of America, Local Camp 600, a life member of Chalfont Chemical Fire Engine Co. 1 and the Rescue Squad. Bill is survived by his daughter, Dottie Hamilton of Lisbon and his brother, George Hamilton of Jacksonville, Fla. He was preceeded in death by his son, James R. Hamilton.

Betty M. Braeutigam of Chalfont died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Doylestown Hospital. She was 81. She was the wife of Robert O. Braeutigam. Born June 17, 1923, in Decatur, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Bernard J. McLean and Clara Estabrook. Mrs. Braeutigam had been employed as a secretary, retiring from Bambergers in Montgomeryville, in 1985. She was a member of Doylestown Presbyterian Church and Village improvement Association of Doylestown Hospital. Betty always enjoyed playing a good game of bridge. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Karen B. Macaulay of Middletown, N.J. and John R. Braeutigam of San Antonio, Texas, and by three grandchildren.
