BARABANITZ - Joseph T., age 76, of West View, on Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, in UPMC Passavant Hospital. Born in Johnstown, Pa., on March 19, 1927, son of the late Thomas and Stephanie (Zarn) Barabanitz. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barabanitz was preceded in death by four sisters, Helen Clawson, Mary Kocsis, Alice Melnichuck and Ann Edgeworth; and one brother, Andrew Sokul. Mr. Barabanitz is survived by a son, William Barabanitz of West View. Former husband of Carmela Barabanitz. Also survived by a sister, Sophie Massaro of South River, N.J., and was the uncle of Deborah Loccaro, Stella Louise Clawson, Francis Kocsis, William Kocsis, Lawrence Kocsis, Anthony Massaro. Family will receive friends on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday 10 a.m. until time of service at noon at Schellhaas Funeral Home Inc., 388 Center Avenue in West View. Mr. Barabanitz proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of VFW and American Legion and had 25 years of service with the United States Post Office.

BORING - Othea William Jr. "Jack," 50, Johnstown, died Feb. 4, 2004, at UPMC Lee Regional. Born Feb. 23, 1953, in Johnstown, son of Othea William Boring Sr. and Nancy (Flickinger) Boring. Preceded in death by father; and half brother, Curtis Boring. Survived by mother, Blairsville; daughter, Michelle Snyder, Somerset; sisters, Ilene Lee, Ohio; Lethia Smith, Johnstown; half brothers, Clarence, Keith, Orbin, and Kevin Boring, all of New Florence; half sisters, Robin Boring and Rose Lynn Norton, Johnstown. Mr. Boring was adopted as a child and raised by his paternal grandparents, the late William and Lorena Boring. Also raised and loved by Aunt Patty, and Uncle Alfred Long. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the family meditation room at Laurel Crest Rehabilitation & Special Care Center, Ebensburg.

BROWNE - Ruth
BROWNE - Ruth, 74, a resident of Beverly Health Care, formerly of Town House Towers and Woodvale, died Feb. 4, 2004, at UPMC Lee Regional. Born April 26, 1929, in Johnstown, daughter of the late James and Irene (Carnes) Thompson. Ruth was married to late Carl Browne. Preceded in death by sisters, Hazel Browne and Shirley Roberts. Survived by loving children, Barry, married to Roselyn, Johnstown; Rodney "Rod," married to Marie, Valparaiso, Ind.; and Charlene "Sherry" Lorditch. Ruth has also left behind a close family of these brothers and sisters: Phyllis Dishong, Judy Aiello, Carlisle "Sonny" Thompson, Marlene Phillips, Roy Thompson, Romayne Ressler, Charles "Chuck" Thompson, Wanda Vavrek, Joyce Crawford, Jack, James and Carl Thompson; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed but remembered by all who knew and loved her. Ruth worked for many years as a waitress but loved the years she volunteered at both Lee Hospital and the Cambria County Meals on Wheels program, which delivers meals to those who cannot leave their homes. She enjoyed playing bingo at the Senior Citizens Center and later at the Town House Towers community room, and loved visiting with her family. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary Inc., downtown, 514 Somerset St., the Rev. GOOD - Minnie O., 95, Ephrata, died Feb. 3, 2004, at Ephrata Manor. Preceded in death by first husband, Bishop Irvin M. Holsopple, in 1961, former pastor of Kaufman Mennonite Church; second husband, Bishop Howard Z. Good, in 1975; five stepchildren and 11 stepgrandchildren. Preceded in death by parents. She was formerly married to John R. Kirkwood. Survived by these children: Jessica L. Kirkwood, Chambersburg; Michael J. Kirkwood, at home; and Alexandra D. Kirkwood, Camp Hill. Sister of Nancy Livingston, Spring Grove; Gwendolyn Suminski, Powell, Ohio; and Vicki Ann Tittle, Johnstown. Member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. She was a claims adjuster for Pa. Dept. of Labor with 26 years of service. Graduate of Greater Johnstown High School, Class of 1968. She received a bachelor of arts in secondary education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1971. MICIK - Donald Stanley, 69, Benshoff Hill, died Feb. 4, 2004, at home. Born Feb. 11, 1934, in Johnstown, son of late Stanley and Helen (Chimelewski) Micik. Preceded in death by first wife, Margaret M. (Golian); and sister, Dorothy Krett. Survived by wife, Lee; daughters, Patricia, wife of Richard Pristas, Johnstown; Diane, wife of David Guernsey, Clifton, Va.; and son, Donald Jr., married to Monica (Herbert), York. Also survived by grandchildren, Scott and Erica Pristas; Savannah Guernsey; Kyle and Alyssa Micik. Mr. Micik was retired from the Gautier Division of Bethlehem Steel Corp. Retired chief of police of Middle Taylor Township and worked for Corporate Security Services. RADER - Joyce Elaine, 61, Knoxville, Tenn., was called home by the Lord, Monday, Feb. 2, 2004. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and served Him faithfully. Ms. Rader was a member of Middlebrook Pike United Methodist Church. She was a native of Johnstown, Pa. She is survived by her children: Dennis Thom-as Rader Jr., Heather Danielle (Rader) Blount, Matthew Erik Rader Sr. and Patrick Erin Rader; six grandchildren; sister, Kathy (Mackell) Little, brothers, Lloyd James Mackell and Ronald Ray Mackell. STEPHENSON - Rita Lou, 75, Blairsville, died Feb. 5, 2004, at Select Specialty Hospital, Johnstown. Born April 19, 1928, in Johnstown, daughter of Oscar B. Horne and Philamina (Schultz) Horne. Preceded in death by parents; mother, Nel Clare Horne; and two brothers. Survived by former husband, Ronald J. Stephenson, Johnstown; children: Richard J., married to former Kathy Koop, Johnstown; David B., married to former Joan Wojnaroski, Johnstown; Ronda L., married to Michael Kovalick, New Florence; and Jonathan H., Daytona Beach, Fla. Also survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Sister of Marilyn Galloway, Ormand Beach, Fla. She retired as a clerk of courts from Volusia County, Fla. She was active in Penn Wood Players where she served as president for numerous years. She was a longtime manager of Menoher Swim Club. She was a graduate of Ferndale High School, Class of 1946. BILLY - Ann Marie (Panek), 86, Lilly, went to her eternal rest Feb. 4, 2004, at Altoona Center for Nursing Care. Born Oct. 16, 1917, in Lilly, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Veronica (Mroczka) Panek. Preceded in death by brothers, Joseph, Frank, Louis, Adolph, John and Tim, and sisters, Catherine and Sophia Panek. Last survivor of immediate family. Survived by husband, Michael Billy Jr., whom she married Sept. 26, 1938, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Lilly. Death ends 66 years of marriage. Beloved mother of Audrey, and husband, Raymond Stevens, Lewiston, Mich.; Bernice, and husband, Ronald Biem, Portage; and Michael W. (Mick) Billy, Lilly. Also five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Ann retired as a cafeteria manager at St. Francis Xavier School cafeteria with 20 years of service. She worked as a waitress and cook at former Hoffman Hotel in Cresson for several years. Member of Our Lady of the Alleghenies Church, Lilly. FERRIGHETTO - John
FERRIGHETTO - John, 73, Brighton Township, formerly of Colver, passed away on Jan. 31, 2004. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard, and parents, Marino and Maria (Sbardella) Ferrighetto; and his wife, former Ann Merlini, who blessed him with two children: John, married to Claire, and their two children, Marissa and Christopher; and Lynn, married to Tom Roberts, and their son, John. He is survived by his present wife, Dorothy; his sister, Pearl, wife of Leo Melnyk; and Gladys, wife of the late Ray Mastrine. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and stepchildren. John was a graduate of Ebensburg-Cambria High School and Penn State University where he received a master's degree in civil engineering. He later became chef engineer for St. Joe's Mineral Corp. John was blessed by having his God, his family and his hospice at his side at his final moments. His final blessings were bestowed on him at a Mass at SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Beaver.

GATHAGAN - Ernest Ray "Ernie," 85, Windber, died Feb. 5, 2004, at UPMC Lee Regional Hospital, Johnstown. Born July 18, 1918, in Utahville, Pa., son of the late Miles and Iva Gathagen. Preceded in death by brothers, Vern, Lee, Clyde and Chuck Gathagan; sisters, Pearl, Margaret and Betty; daughter, Eleanor Samella; and grandchildren, Ellie Samella and Donna Gathagan. Survived by loving wife of 64 years, Bertha (Wilson) Gathagan; son, Ray Gathagan, married to former Rita Kuntz, Windber; grandchildren, Linda, wife of Paul Raco; Tony, married to former Lori Horner; Ron; and Kenneth, married to former Saundra Berkebile; and great-grandchildren, Michael Gathagan, Marina and Angila Raco, Justin and Olivia Gathagan, Ron and Sammi Gathagan and Josh Puricelli. Brother of Clair, Velma and Helen, and numerous nieces and nephews. Retired coal miner with Country Club Coal Co. and member of UMWA Local 5225. Will; sons, Robert E. Jr., married to former Ramona Horne, Johnstown, and Craig B., married to former Colleen McMichael, New Castle; grandson, Gregory; sister, Ruth Nees, New Jersey; and an aunt, Margaret Bettle, Johnstown. Member of New Baltimore Sportsmen's Club. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. Former employee of Wise Business Forms, with 25 years service. Preceded in death by sister, Helene Lewis, and brothers, George and Stephen "Perp." Survived by wife, Alice; stepchildren, Mike Myers and Cathy Williams; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Brother of Joseph Mesoros, and wife, Katherine, of Vintondale, and Mary Curtis of Royal Oak, Mich. Also survived by sister-in-law, Antoinette Mesoras, Twin Rocks, and numerous nieces and nephews. NASH - Dorothy F., 57, of Johnstown, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, in UPMC Lee Regional. She is most remembered by her fiance, Robert Brown; sister, Mary Jo Reed; as well as her mother, Hilda Sleasman. Fond memories are held by of all her friends and family. We shall miss you, Dorothy.

PATRICK - Leroy J.
PATRICK - Leroy J., 86, North Penryn Road, Manheim, Lancaster County, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at home. Formerly of Johnstown, Mr. Patrick worked for U.S. Steel of Johnstown, retiring in 1980. Previously, he worked for 20 years in Mine 42 for Berwind White Coal Mining Co., Windber. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Penryn and a graduate of Adams High School in Sidman. Born in Gray, he was the son of the late James C. and Madeline (McLoughlin) Patrick. His wife, Florence Irene (Becker) Patrick, died in July of 2002. He is survived by a son, James D., married to Louise (Gillespie) Patrick, with whom he resided; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Jean, married to Charles Lingfelt of Caledonia; June, married to Paul Solomon; and Betty Farkas, both of Wyandotte, Mich. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of his family. Interment, St. Paul's Cemetery, Penryn, Pa. Sheetz Funeral Home, Mount Joy, Pa., in charge of arrangements.

ZIMMERMAN - M. Geraldine, 91, Belmont, died Feb. 6, 2004, at Memorial Medical Center. Born May 6, 1912, in Homer City, Pa., daughter of Arthur and Laura (Ferrier) Frederick. Preceded in death by parents; beloved husband, Harold L.; and great-grandson, Christopher L. Miller. Survived by daughters, Doris Ann, wife of Kermit "Kit" Miller, Johnstown, and Sandra Lee, at home. Also survived by grandchildren, William L. Miller, Deborah L. Dowling and Deanne Miller, and great-grandchildren, Kathrine, Cassandra and Dylan Miller and Nicole and Kristin Dowling. She was a member of Belmont United Methodist Church and Retired Teachers Associations in Johnstown and Richland. She was a graduate of the Indiana State Teachers College, Class of 1932. Her teaching career began in Homer City for eight years, then continued in the Richland School District until her retirement in 1974. Friends received from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Henderson-Ketterer Funeral Home, Geistown, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Pastor David S. Evans. Interment, Richland Cemetery. Family suggests memorial contributions to Belmont United Methodist Church.
