Robert J. (Jud) Confer
Robert J. (Jud) Confer, 95, formerly of 496 Long Run Road, Mill Hall, died July 4, 2003, at ManorCare, Jersey Shore.
Born March 10, 1908 in Loganton, he was the son of the late William A. and Helen Carstetter Confer.
He was married to Lillian C. McClintick Confer on Jan. 16, 1932 in the Salona Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death Aug. 6, 2001.
He was a 1926 graduate of Jersey Shore High School.
From 1935 until 1950, he worked for the Bellefonte Lime Company and from 1950 until he retired in 1992, he owned and operated Confer's Service Station in Salona.
He was a member of Lafayette Lodge 199, Lock Haven; Williamsport Consistory; Jaffa Shrine, Altoona; and the Clinton County Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Salona Lutheran Church.
Surviving are a son, Robert L. Confer of Lock Haven; a sister, Josephine Linderman of Jersey Shore; four grandchildren, Sharon Morley of Bouckville, N.Y., JoAnn Walizer of Loganton, Julie Panczysny of Linden, and William Confer of Lock Haven; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be July 9, 2003, at 11 a.m., in the Salona Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mill Hall. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Dean K. Wetzler Jr. Funeral Home, 320 Main St., Mill Hall.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salona Lutheran Church through the funeral home.
Arthur C. Green
Arthur C. Green, 91, of 454 German Road, Lock Haven, died April 3, 2005 in Altoona VA Hospital.
Born Oct. 9, 1913 in Haneyville, he was the son of the late Marcus U. and Blanche Jeirles Green.
He was married to Ruth Fulton Green who died in 1975.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was wounded in action and awarded a bronze star and purple heart.
He was a member of Haneyville Baptist Church for over 50 years where he was a deacon and treasurer. He was also a life member of the Haneyville Fire Co. and Disabled Veterans Association.
Surviving are two stepsons, James R. Botsford of Texas and Albert Hoover of Coropolis, Pa.; stepdaughters, Ruth L. Caldwell of Swissdale and Alberta Weird of Florida; and numerous grand and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Stella Button, Ella Summerson, Alice Clark and Dorothy Brooks, and two brothers, Clifford and Robert Green.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2005 at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home Inc., 231 High St., Flemington. Visitation is 10 a.m. until the time of service. Rev. Wayne Knoebel will officiate. Interment will be in Dunnstown Cemetery.
Arlene S. Pharis
Arlene S. Pharis, 71, died Sunday, April 3, 2005 at Bucktail Medical Center, South Renovo.
Born in Ephrata on June 10, 1933, she was the daughter of Levi M. and Mary (Groff) Sensenig.
She was married Nov. 21, 1953 to Raymond E. Pharis Sr.
She was a member of Sunset Memorial Christian Missionary Alliance Church and Kettle Creek Hose Co.
She enjoyed spending time with children and grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Pharis also assisted her son with his business, Rainbo's, in Tamarack, and was a former wage tax collector for Leidy Township.
Surviving are her husband; a son, Ray (Ann) Pharis Jr. of Tamarack; a daughter, Sharon (Jim) Younger of Montgomery; two grandchildren, Deanna and Elizabeth Pharis; a brother, Albert of East Earl; two sisters, Helen Ressler of East Earl and Anna Mae Weaver of Lititz; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Levi and a sister, Gladys Webber.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2005 at Sunset Memorial Church, Tamarack. Rev. Mahlon Nevel will officiate. Friends and relatives will be received at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in New Maple Grove Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Maxwell Funeral Home, 205 Fifth St., Renovo.
Fern Crilow
Fern Crilow, 103, of Sugar Creek, Ohio, died April 3 in ManorCare Health Services, Jersey Shore.
She was in excellent health until age 94, still driving her car and spading her own vegetable garden.
After a health episode, she came to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Alan and Virginia Crosby, in Mill Hall. Four years later, at age 95, she went to the emergency room at Jersey Shore Hospital and then immediately into ManorCare, but she was not bedfast until recently.
She was a daughter of Alex and Elma Baker Miller, Nov. 18, 1901 and was raised in the area of Winfield, Ohio.
She and her husband Jerald A. Crilow retired from a farm outside of Sugar Creek and moved into Sugar Creek. They were active members of Union Hill United Methodist Church outside Sugar Creek.
She taught school in Sugar Creek Township prior to her marriage and has taught a Sunday school class for more than 40 years.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Crosby of Mill Hall; a son, Stanley J. Crilow of Canton, Ohio; six grandchildren, Rodney Crilow, Stephanie Loomis, Chad Crilow, Lloyd Crosby, Barbara Moseley and Jerald Crosby; two step-grandchildren, Dennis Lewton and Rachelle Ferren; and six great-grandchildren.
The viewing will occur at Union Hill United Methodist Church one hour before the services which will follow at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2005 with Rev. Carl Kandel and her grandson, Rev. Lloyd A. Crosby, officiating. Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery.
The family requests that there be no flowers.

Gilbert C. Waite
Gilbert Campbell Waite, 72, of Highlands Ranch, Colo., went to be the Lord on May 7, 2005 in Denver, Colo.
Born Dec. 23, 1932 in Jersey Shore, he was the son of Gilbert S. and Gertrude Campbell Waite.
On Oct. 2, 1965, he married Joanne Wendelin in Penacook, N.H.
He was an officer in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957.
In 1954, he graduated with a BSEE from Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University) in Chester.
His life revolved around his family and church. At the time of his death, he was serving as a deacon of Grace Baptist Church of Parker, Colo., where he taught the adult Sunday school class.
He was a charter member (1967) of the International Society of Hybrid Microelectronics (now IMAPS). As president, he had the distinction of speaking at the first ISHM International Conference held in Bad Homburg, Germany.
Surviving are his wife of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; a daughter, Bethany Waite of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; a son, Bradford Waite (wife Stephanie) of Parker, Colo.; a sister, Joanna Waite of Jersey Shore; grandchildren, Rachel, Justin and Madison Waite of Parker, Colo. and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held March 14, 2005.
Constance M. Bauer
Miss Constance M. Bauer, 71, of 329 Katydid Lane, Lock Haven, died April 4, 2005 at the Susque-View Home in Lock Haven.
She was born April 10, 1933 in Slatington and was the daughter of the late Anthony and Josephine Bauer.
Miss Bauer graduated from the Slatington High School and Bloomsburg University where she obtained her teaching degree. She had taught in the Lock Haven area for a short time, then moved to Basking Ridge, N.J., where she resided most of her life teaching high school English. She retired 15 years ago from teaching.
She was a social member of the American Legion and enjoyed traveling in the United States and Europe.
She is survived by a nephew, David Bauer.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Roland Bauer.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven.
Ruby L. Weaver
Ruby L. Weaver, 74, of 206 Kyler Ave., Mill Hall, died Aug. 30, 2005 at the Susque-View Home Inc.
Ruby was born June 28, 1931 in Lock Haven, the daughter of the late George and Alice Fetzer Jeirles.
She was retired from the Keystone Central School District where she had worked as a custodian. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and collecting 'ruby red' dishes.
She is survived by her husband, Robert F. Weaver, at home; two daughters, Cindy Simcox of Mill Hall, and Carol Summerson of Chester, Va.; two step-daughters, Pamela and Janie, both of Arizona; five sons, Wayne Jeirles of Milesburg, Gregory Fravel of Port Matilda, Robert Weaver Jr. of Marietta, Ga., Clair Weaver of New Bedford, Mass. and David Weaver of Lock Haven; three sisters, Esther Hunsinger of Waycross, Ga., Frances Hesser of Altoona, and Hope Knisley of Howard RD; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will at 2 p.m., Sept. 2, 2005 at the Dean K. Wetzler Jr. Funeral Home, Mill Hall, with Rev. Valerie M. Stedman officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mill Hall. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.

Evelyn M. Schenck
Evelyn M. Schenck, 87, of Blanchard, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, at the Susque-View Nursing Home.
She was born June 24, 1918 in Howard, a daughter of the late Harold and Margaret Heverly Schenck.
She had worked at the Lock Haven Silk Mill and was a member of Blanchard Church of Christ.
She enjoyed reading.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Blanche Schenck, of Blanchard; a niece, Cathy and Terry McCloskey and their children, of Blanchard.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Schenck, in 1999.
The funeral will be private at the family's convenience. Rev. Russel Muldovan will officiate. Burial will be in Schenck's Cemetery, Howard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blanchard Church of Christ.
Mary Ann Christopher
Mary Ann Christopher, 72, of Cape Coral, Fla., passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 28, 2005. She was raised in Lock Haven and resided in Portville, N.Y. for many years before moving to Cape Coral in 1990.
Mary Ann is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Gerard Christopher; her beloved children, Cyndy Christopher of Olean, N.Y., Jeanne Dangle of Baldwinsville, N.Y., Gerard Christopher Jr. of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Cheryl Jones of Jupiter, Fla., Greg Christopher of Memphis, Tenn.; nine adored grandchildren, Gina Shields, Tara and Brett Dangle, Chris and Kristi Traugh, Matthew and Brooke Christopher and Sophie and Henry Christopher; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Tailynn Shields; a sister, Betty Reynolds, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann was an elementary school teacher at Portville Central School for 20 years. When she wasn't enjoying her family and many friends, she could be found golfing with her husband, Gerard.
Her family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 31 at the Coral Ridge Funeral Home, 1630 Pine Island Road, Cape Coral, Fla. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 1, at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Cape Coral.
Burial will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005 at the St. Agnes Cemetery Chapel in Lock Haven with the Rev. Father Jozef Kovacik officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio 44720.

Zane G. Kaufman
Zane Grey Kaufman, 83, formerly of Lock Haven, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005 at the RiverWoods Nursing Home, Lewisburg.
Kaufman was born May 3, 1922 in Zanesville, Ohio, son of the late Raymond and Rena Hartzler Kaufman.
A 1940 graduate of John Harris High School, Harrisburg, he earned a bachelor of science in chemistry in 1948 from Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, and a master of science in chemistry in 1950 from the University of Kentucky.
During World War II he served with the United States Navy in the South Pacific from 1943 to 1946.
From 1950 to 1953 he was employed as a research chemist at American Cyanamid, Bound Brook, N.J. He taught chemistry from 1953 to 1955 in the York County School District, and from 1955 to 1960 at York Junior College. He retired from Lock Haven University in 1988 after 28 years there. He was a member of the American Chemical Society for more than 50 years.
Kaufman served as church organist, choir director and vocal soloist in several churches, including seven years as the organist for the former First United Methodist Church, Lock Haven. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Mill Hall.
He founded and directed many musical ensembles including the Lock Haven Area Men's Chorus. He played string bass with the Lock Haven College- Community Orchestra and was a photographer for the Millbrook Playhouse.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ruth Cardell Kaufman, Lewisburg; two daughters, Susan Hafey of Ruther Glen, Va. and Amy G. Schol of Dormitz, Germany; a son-in-law, Stephan Schol; two grandchildren, Peter and Karin Schol, and a brother, J.V. Richard Kaufman, Washington Depot, Conn. He was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond and Joseph.
Memorial services will be Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Mill Hall. The family will greet guests one hour prior to the service.

Janet I. Gillam
Janet Irene Gillam, 97, of Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, died on Aug. 25, 2005 at Messiah Village.
Born March 29, 1908 in McVeytown, she was a daughter of the late John and Lola Murfin.
She was raised in rural McVeytown, and lived in Mt. Union, Lock Haven and Mechanicsburg. She was a member of the Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church and previously was a member of Great Island Presbyterian Church in Lock Haven.
At Great Island she was very active as a deacon, circle member and many other activities. She was most memorable as the behind-the-scenes person in the music programs at the church and Lock haven University where her husband, Russell C. Gillam, was head of the music department and at Great Island, music director and organist.
She was also a member of the Lock Haven DAMES, the organization of Lock Haven University professors' wives. She was preceded in death by her husband who died Oct. 28, 1993, and two sisters, Harriet Smith and Millie Neumann.
Surviving are two daughters, Joyce M. Gillam of Washington D.C. and Nancy D. Lemmons and her husband, Bud, of Shiremanstown; two grandchildren, Joni Garcia and husband, Pete, of Pleasanton, Texas, and Joseph Ebbs and his companion, Donna Martin, of Austin, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Allison and Lauren Scott of Austin, Texas, and Emma Garcia of Pleasanton, Texas; two sisters, Frances Clark of McVeytown and Viola Eaton of Mt. Pleasant Mills; numerous nieces and nephews; two step-grandchildren, Mark Lemmons and wife, Tammy, and Amy Richard and husband, Shawn; three step-great grandchildren, Mark Lemmons Jr., and Shannon and Chloe Richard.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Sept. 12, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church, 300 E. Simpson St., Mechanicsburg, Pa. 17055. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Messiah Village, 100 Mt. Allen Drive, Mechanicsburg, Pa. 177055 or Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church.

Glenn L. Karstetter
Glenn L. Karstetter, 86, husband of Irene R. (Geyer) Karstetter of 85 Campground Road, Greenburr, passed away at his residence on Monday, Aug. 29, 2005 after a lengthy illness.
Born in Booneville on July 31, 1919, he was the son of the late G. Winfield and Mary Luella (Weaver) Karstetter.
He and his wife celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on June 22, 2005.
A carpenter by trade, he was a member of the Local Carpenter's Union #950.
Glenn enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Along with his wife, he is survived by two sons, Marlin Karstetter of Loganton and Keith Karstetter of Stockton Springs, Maine; a daughter, Shirene E. Karstetter Bolink of Loganton; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Wayne P. Urbine Funeral Home Inc., 95 E. Main St., Loganton, with Rev. Kay Schwab officiating. Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. Final interment will take place in Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery, Greenburr. Thomas B. Greendoner
Thomas B. Greendoner, 73, of 304 S. Chestnut St., Mill Hall, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005 at his residence.
He was born March 23, 1932 in Drury's Run, the son of the late Anthony J. and Emily L. Summerson Greendoner. On June 5, 1965, at the St. Agnes Catholic Church, Lock Haven, he married the former Donna Rae Andrus, who survives in Mill Hall.
He retired May 23, 1997 after 37 years of service, from Mill Hall Clay Products, Mill Hall.
He was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church, Lock Haven. He was also a member of the Son's of Italy and the Castanea Fire Hall. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He repaired and serviced lawnmowers for many years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Clyde Greendoner, of Currwensville, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.
Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 7, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, with the Rev. Father Jozef Kovacik officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven. Kenneth Walker
Kenneth Walker, 86, 407 Nittany Road, Castanea, died Friday in Susque-View Home, Lock Haven.
He was married to Sara Jane Piffer Walker who preceded him in death Oct. 26, 2003.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Dean K. Wetzler Jr. Funeral Home, Mill Hall. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
William 'Bill' M. Furl
William 'Bill' M. Furl, 70, Bellefonte, passed away at Mount Nittany Medical Center, College Township, Centre County on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003.
Born Aug. 15, 1933 in Boggs Township, Centre County, he was the son of the late Michael W. and Kathryn DeLaney Furl.
On Aug. 26, 1958, he married Rose Marie Preslovich, who preceded him in death July 20, 2003.
He served in the Marine Corps and worked as a roofer for B & S Building Supply and Commodore.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Bellefonte, the Milesburg American Legion, the Bellefonte Undine Fire Company, the Bellefonte V.F.W., the Clarence Democratic Club, the Milesburg Senior Citizens and the Mosquito Creek Sportsman Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Teresa M. Decker of Bellefonte; two sons, William T. Lehman of York and Michael J. Furl of Bellefonte; two sisters, Nellie Watson of Bellefonte and Cora Baney of Enola; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Furl, and two sisters, Mary Estright and Ruth Potts.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003 at 10 a.m. in the Dean K. Wetzler Jr. Funeral Home, Milesburg. Father Neil R. Dadey and the Rev. Wayne A. Shamer will officiate. Richard A. Probst
Richard A. Probst, 82, 661 German Road, Lock Haven, died Nov. 9, 2003 in Lock Haven Hospital.
Born April 22, 1921 in Swissdale, he was a son of the late John L. and Lena C. Batey Probst.
He was married to Sara Jane Kalmbach Probst who died Jan. 20, 2001.
Mr. Probst worked at Woolrich and Piper, retiring in 1983, and then at Belles Springs Golf Course.
He also enjoyed farming and was a member of the Swissdale United Methodist Church and choir and of the Keen Club in Woolrich.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol A. Probst and Debra J. Probst, both at home; two sisters, Helen M. Eggler of Swissdale and Lorene E. Maurer of Woolrich; many nieces and nephews; and a his dog, Kelly.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Woodrow W. Probst, and a sister, Edith R. Masden.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003 at 11 a.m. in the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home Inc., 231 High St., Flemington. The Rev. Marie Lewis will officiate. Louis N. Klaras
Louis N. Klaras, 43, 16 N. Fordhan Road, Hicksville, N.Y., died Nov. 6, 2003 in Syosset, N.Y.
Born Nov. 27, 1959 in Lock Haven, he was the son of Nicholas Klaras, who survives in Lock Haven and the late Viola Hatfield Klaras.
He was married Lorraine Pistorion Klaras on May 6, 2003. She survives in Syasset, N.Y.
He attended St. Basil Academy in Garrison, N.Y. and received his GED from Lock Haven High School. He attended Xavier University in mortuary sciences and graduated in 1982. He did his apprenticeship in Hyattsville, Md. and received his Maryland funeral director's license. He also held licenses in New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
He owned and operated the Newitt-Bly-Klaras Funeral Home from 1991 to 1996. He worked in a number of funeral homes finally settling in Syosett, where he worked at the Beney Funeral Home.
He was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association and attended the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Syosett. He enjoyed his music and his dog Sparky.
Surviving are a daughter, Ariel N. Klaras of Jersey Shore; a son, Nicholas E. Klaras; a half-sister, Mrs. Jack (Evelyn) Ward of Philadelphia; a half-brother, Richard (Dickey) Killinger of of Lock Haven and aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Laru and Louise Hatfield and Elias and Vaso Klaras.
Funeral services were held Nov. 9, 2003 in Syosett, N.Y. at the Baney Funeral Home. Father Kstabrotoulas officiated. Interment was held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1433 13th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602.
Calvin Young
Calvin Young, 78, Beech Creek, died Tuesday, Nov. 11 at his home.
Born Dec. 3, 1924 in Kato, he was a son of the late Lewis and Nellie Haines Young.
He was married to Margie Mae Rossman on May 21, 1946. She survives at home.
He had worked at the Howard Nursery and General Armature in Mill Hall and retired from PennDOT.
Calvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and rides in the car.
Surviving are four daughters, Mary and Jerry Hanley, Audrey and Dave Rhine, and Debra and Bruce Winslow, all of Beech Creek, and Connie Baney of Mill Hall; four sons, Calvin and Karin, Roger L. and Tina, Joe M. and Kimberly and Kenneth E. and Wanda Young, all of Beech Creek; four sisters, Blanche Miller and Ruth Young of Milesburg, Loretta Young of Bellefonte, and Bertha Shirk of Marysville; a brother, Andy Young of Blanchard; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, six brothers, one sister and two sons-in-law.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2003 in the W. Robert Neff Funeral Home, 135 W. Main St., Howard. The Rev. Donald Fornwalt will officiate. Burial will be in Schencks Cemetery, Howard Township. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13 at the funeral home.
Helen R. Leonard
Helen Rosella (Weaver) Leonard, 96, formerly of Ormond Beach, Fla., Asbury Park, N.J. and New York City, died Sunday in King Manor Care Center, Neptune, N.J.
She was born Aug. 24, 1907 in Lock Haven, a daughter of the late Samuel R. and Nellie Burns Weaver. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Renovo and attended grammar school in South Renovo. She graduated from Renovo High School in 1925.
She had been employed as a church secretary and as a secretary for Curtis Aircraft and the American Red Cross, all in New York City.
She was the widow of Frank E. Leonard and had attended the Mr. Washington Presbyterian Church in New York City and the Presbyterian Church on the Hill in Ocean Township, N.J.
Surviving is a brother, Richard Weaver of Chambersburg; a sister, Mary Jarrett of Key Largo, Fla.; two nieces and six nephews.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the Musselman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Lemoyne. Burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Township. A viewing will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Doris E. 'Betty' Dickey
Doris E. 'Betty' Dickey, 81, of Beech Creek, died Wednesday, Nov. 12 in the Williamsport Hospital.
Born June 16, 1922 in Spring Mills, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Edith Breon Gentzel.
She and Harvey A. Dickey were married on Nov. 16, 1950 in Rebersburg.
A member of the Blanchard Church of Christ, she had worked for Sylvania in Mill Hall.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen E. and husband Paul Swanson of Lock Haven.
Preceding her in death were two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 in the W. Robert Neff Funeral Home, 135 W. Main St., Howard. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blanchard Church of Christ, 161 Beach St., Blanchard, Pa. 16826.
Miriam L. Smith
Miriam L. Smith, 82, of 29 Linnet Lane, Lock Haven, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003 in Susque-View Home, Lock Haven. She had been in failing health.
She was born in Clintondale, Aug. 20, 1921, and was a daughter of the late W. Cleveland and Anna Billet Bierly.
She is survived by her husband, Albert F. Smith. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on July 21.
Mrs. Smith graduated from Hublersburg High School, then from beauty school in Washington, D.C. She worked for a short time as a beautician before taking a position with the Veterans Administration in Washington, D.C.
Miriam was an active member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ for over 50 years where she was a member of the Hanna Sunday School Class. Mim was well known for her annual contributions of chess pies and other baked goods to the church bazaar. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed times spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Wanda and her husband, Alfred Munro, of Jersey Shore; a son, Gary Smith and his wife, Susie, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a grandson, Scott and his wife, Lisa, of Jersey Shore; a granddaughter, Brenda and her husband, Larry Smith, of Lock Haven; and four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah, Alyssa and Margus.
Also surviving are three sisters, Chestie Yearick of Howard, Ruth Clevenstine of California, Md., and June Wilson of Zion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Helen Rockey, Madeline Brungard and Edna Brumbaugh; and two brothers, Robert Bierly and Oscar Bierly.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, Nov. 14, 2003 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven. A memorial service will be held on Nov. 15, 2003 at 11 a.m. in St. Luke's United Church of Christ, 1175 W. Fourth St., Lock Haven. Officiating will be the Rev. John W. Silliman, pastor of the St. Luke's United Church of Christ and Father Edward Erb, her nephew, of Hamlin, Pa. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be accepted to St. Luke's United Church of Christ through the funeral home.
