Robert Glenn Seasholtz
Robert Glenn Seasholtz, 66, of the Harvest Moon Motel, died Monday, January 27, 2003 at his residence.
He was born Sept. 20, 1936 near Mifflinburg, a son of Glenn M. and Elizabeth Speese Seasholtz.
He was a graduate of Jersey Shore High School where he played football and was named an All State guard. He attended Pennsylvania State University where he participated in ROTC.
He was formerly employed by Karnish Instruments where he was a line manager.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Jersey Shore. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, animals, nature, cooking and working with his hands.
His survivors include his mother, Elizabeth Embick and her husband, Merrill C., of Montoursville; one daughter, Lucretia Ann Bock of Hazleton; two sons, Craig A. Seasholtz and his wife, Tammy, of Avis and Lester R. Seasholtz and his wife, Angie, of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and seven grandchildren.
Also surviving are four sisters: Zee Layne Merkel, and her husband, Bill, of Jersey Shore; Donna Jane Weakley and her husband, John, of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; Glenda Kay Myers and her husband, Louis, of Avis; and Therese Terri Elizabeth Hagar of Avis.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Service information will be announced tomorrow by Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, A Life Celebration Home of Jersey Shore.
Elbert E. "Red" Brubacker Jr.
Elbert E. "Red" Brubaker Jr., 71, of 1440 Watering Trough Road, Rochester Mills, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, in Punxsutawney Area Hospital, Punxsutawney.
Born June 30, 1931 in Jersey Shore, he was the son of the late Elbert E. and Thelma (Watts) Brubaker.
He was married to Doris (Madden) Brubaker on July 14, 1951, and served in the U.S. Navy.
Red began working in 1947 at Pine Creek Lime and Stone Co. of Jersey Shore. In 1961, he worked for PennDOT District Two of Clearfield as a chief inspector for plants.
From 1964 to 1968, he worked for Interstate Amiesite Corporation at the central lab in Salona as asphalt design technician. He was later promoted to materials engineer at the central lab in Salona until 1973, when he transferred to Interstate Amiesite Corporation in Indiana. In 1980, he was promoted to manager of materials engineering, and in 1987 was transferred to Interstate Amiesite Corporation in Punxsutawney, where he was manager of materials engineering. He retired in 1987.
In his retirement, Red and his son Rusty owned and operated R and R Machine in Rochester Mills.
He was a member of the Pennsylvania Asphalt Pavement Association, Maryland Asphalt Association, and the Virginia Asphalt Association. He was also a member of Canoe Ridge Church of God, Rossiter.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Rusty, husband of Kathy Brubaker of Rochester Mills; three daughters, Debbie, wife of Kenneth Smith of Punxsutawney, JoAnn, wife of Randee Williams of Rochester Mills, and Emily States-Pearce, and husband Paul Pearce of Rossiter; a sister, Nancy, wife of Charles Rinehart of Jersey Shore; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 2, 2002, in Canoe Ridge Church of God, Rossiter. Pastor Paul C. Stokes will officiate. There will be no public viewing. Contributions may be made to the Canoe Ridge Church of God, 3827 Church Road, Rossiter, Pa. 15772. Arrangements are under the direction of the McCabe Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.
Helen V. Gorini Hammond
Helen V. Gorini Hammond, 71, of 656 E. First Ave., South Williamsport, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, in the Williamsport Hospital.
Helen was a professional beautician, and had worked at Tetley Tea and News Plus. She was an avid reader.
Born Oct. 7, 1931 in Marion, Ohio, she was a daughter of Ralph and Juanita May Jackson Gardner.
Surviving are her daughters, Judith L. Swinehart of South Williamsport, Karen M. Kennedy of Cogan Station, and Victoria Lee Schantz of Lock Haven; a brother, James Gardner of Pitman, N.J.; sisters, Barbara Beach of Sarasota, Fla., Roberta Rothermel of Nisbet and Jacqueline Evans of Allentown; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Knight-Confer s, 1914 Memorial Ave., Williamsport. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation.
Pauline Frances Leathers
Pauline Frances Leathers, 78, of Howard Township, died Jan. 27, 2003, at her home.
She was born Dec. 10, 1924 in Blanchard, to the late William and Mae DeLong Eaton.
She married Clarence Coffey, now deceased, in 1942, and Jerry T. Leathers on Feb. 23, 1946 in Howard.
She is survived by her husband and four children, Sandra Rhoades of Howard, Paula McDanel and husband David of Fombell, Jerry Thomas Leathers and wife Francene of Camp Hill, and Natalie Nodianos and husband Dale of State College; five sisters, Betty Morasco of Flemington, Isabelle Rupert and Anna Wink, both of Lock Haven, and Lorraine McAulay and Gloria Gardner, both of Howard; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her first husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Eaton.
She was a graduate of the Liberty Township School and attended Lock Haven High School. She attended Liberty Baptist Church in Blanchard.
She was a social member of the Howard VFW and a founding member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Although she worked outside of the home in several capacities, she was first and foremost a dedicated and loving wife and mother. She enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles, crocheting, and playing video games in her spare time. Her concern, thoughtfulness, and sense of humor will be fondly remembered by a large circle of family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Neff Funeral Home, Howard, on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Stephen Hicks officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Centre Home Care and Hospice, 2437 E. College Ave., Suite 6, State College, Pa. 16801.
Eugene Joseph "Joe" Smith
Eugene Joseph "Joe" Smith, 73, died at 11:50 p.m., Jan. 27, 2003, in the Lock Haven Hospital, where he had been a patient for the last two weeks.
He was born in Lock Haven, the son of the late Francis D. and Anna Marie (McMann) Smith, and has been a lifelong resident of Lock Haven.
He was a graduate of the Immaculate Conception High School, Lock Haven, in the class of 1949, and had served in the military. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He had served in the military for two years, 13 months of which were served in foreign service.
Following his discharge in November 1953, he was employed at the Clinton Paper Company for several years, after which he was employed at the Lock Haven Hospital from 1965 until early in 1991. He retired after 26 years of employment.
A Democrat, he was interested in politics. He learned to play bridge as a young man and continued his passion for the game until he became ill, being associated with the American Contract Bridge League and the Williamsport Duplicate Bridge Club. He was also an active and dedicated sports fan, and a member of the Sportsman Hall of Fame of Clinton County and Korean War Veterans.
In addition to his other interests, he was an active member of St. Agnes Church, Lock Haven, where he served as an usher and also in the choir.
Joe is survived by one sister, Veronica S. Sis Moriarty and her husband, P. Robert Moriarty of Lock Haven; three nieces, Ann Marie Moriarty of Silver Spring, Md., Sheila M. Kovalcin of Philipsburg, and Veronica P. Moriarty of Spartenburg, S.C.; three grand-nieces; four grand-nephews; and also many cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Agnes Church, Lock Haven, on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2003, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Sean Code as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery. A visitation will be at the Moriarty-Dutcavich Funeral Home, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven, from 4 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. A Vigil for the Deceased will be held at 8:45 p.m. For those wishing to make contributions in Joe's name, the family suggests St. Agnes Church, Lock Haven Catholic School Endowment, or the choice of the donor.

Jason Bressler
Jason Bressler, 23, of Avis, formerly of McElhattan, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born June 6, 1980 in Lock Haven, a son of Jesse Bressler and Alice Hague.
He attended Lock Haven schools and was last employed by Avis Modular Homes as a carpenter.
He was a Catholic.
Surviving are his mother of McElhattan; his father; a sister, Jamie Bressler of McElhattan; paternal grandparents, Delores and James Bressler of Rebersburg; maternal grandmother, Delores Breining of McElhattan; maternal grandfather Earl Hague of McElhattan; aunts, uncles, cousins and a nephew.
The fuenral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Water Street, Lock Haven, with the Rev. Daniel O'Niell officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lock Haven.
Friends are invited to call at the church from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday.
David E. Lane
David E. Lane, 62, a former Renovo resident, died in Lanoke, Ark. on Dec. 26, 2003.
He was a Renovo High School graduate, an employee of TWA, and a U.S. Army veteran of the Cuban Missle Crisis era.
Local survivors are his sister, Theresa Lane of Renovo and brother, John Lane of Philadelphia.
Services and burial were held in Arkansas on Dec. 30, 2003. Memorials are requested to the S.P.C.A.
Pauline E. Heverly
Pauline E. Heverly, 92, of 103 Barton St., Lock Haven, died Jan. 2, 2005 at Lock Haven Hospital Extended Care.
She was born Oct. 28, 1912, in Mill Hall, a daughter of the late Ellery M. and Jennie Mackey Heverly.
Pauline was an inspector at Bloomsburg Mills for 49 1/2 years. She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Flemington and enjoyed bus trips and gardening.
She is survived by a brother, Clifford (Margaret) Heverly of Mifflinburg; two sisters, Madeline Fisher of Beech Creek and Mildred (Eddie) Scantlin of Bassett, Va.; three nephews and one niece.
Burial and services will be held at the convenience of the family. Pauline requested no visitation. Memorial contributions can be made to the Arthritis Foundation. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Caroline J. Crosser
Caroline June Crosser, 72, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Manor Care Nursing Home in Jersey Shore.
She was born Jan. 7, 1932 in Lock Haven, a daughter of Junior Floyd and Clara J. Fisher Chapman.
Caroline graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1950 and the former Lock Haven Nursing School in 1953.
She worked as a Registered Nurse at the Jersey Shore Hospital and the former Leader Nursing Home in Jersey Shore, where she retired from.
Mary E. Rooney
Mary Estelle Rooney, 88, of Manor Care North passed away on Dec. 30, 2004, after a six year struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Born Feb. 2, 1916, in Driftwood, PA, she was the daughter of Melvin and Mary Bagley Whiting.
Mary was married in Driftwood to Jack J. Rooney, Sr., who preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 1972. She made her home in Renovo until moving to Williamsport in 1989.
From 1973-79 she worked as a House Mother at Lock Haven University. She continued to work until age 70 at Renovo Area Public Library. She was an avid reader and enjoyed bus trips with various Senior Citizens groups. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, a life member of Catholic Daughters of America (Court of St. Veronica), and past president of BPO Elks #334 Auxiliary.
She is survived by two sons, Jack Rooney, Jr. of Quakertown and Patrick (Lezlie) Rooney of South Williamsport; a daughter Ella Barkley of Williamsport; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a special brother-in-law William McCoughay of Williamsport; a sister, Pauline Newton of Emporium; and two brothers, William of Seneca Falls, NY, and Melvin of Centerville.
A memorial mass will be celebrated in St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd., Williamsport, on Friday Jan. 7, 2005, at 10 a.m. Friends may call prior to the mass from 9 to 10 a.m. Burial will be at noon in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hyner, PA.

Charles W. "Chuck" Breon Jr.
Charles W. "Chuck" Breon Jr., 53, of 5370 North Route 44, Jersey Shore, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, after a five-month battle with cancer.
Chuck was born Aug. 24, 1951 in Lock Haven, the son of Charles W. Breon Sr. and the former Bertha Mae Fye. He was preceded in death by his father in Aug. 5, 2000.
He was employed by Susquehanna Valley Construction for many years and was self-employed owner of Breon Lumber Co. for 30 years.
He attended the Annunciation Catholic Church in Williamsport. Chuck loved nature, the woods and mountains of Pennsylvania and enjoyed hunting.
He was a 1969 graduate of Jersey Shore High School and attended the Thompson Institute in Harrisburg.
He is survived by his wife, the former Patricia A. Thompson. They were united in marriage Aug. 31, 1974.
Also surviving are his mother, Bertha Mae, of Avis; a brother, Donald W. Breon Sr. of Jersey Shore; a niece, Angela D. Williams and a nephew, Donald W. Breon II.
Graveside memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family in the Tombs Run Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 35 Bellefonte Ave., Lock Haven, Pa. 17745.

Talitha E. (Teddie) Edwards
Talitha Ellen (Teddie) Edwards, 86, of the Lock Haven area, died Jan. 2, 2005 at the Lock Haven Hospital Extended Care Unit, where she had resided since 1999.
Born Nov. 2, 1918 in Lock Haven, she was the daughter of the late Hiram F. and Inez Isbell Biser.
She was married Aug. 15, 1946 to Louis W. Edwards, who preceded her in death Oct. 19, 1973.
Mrs. Edwards was a 1939 graduate of Lock Haven High School. She had worked for a short period of time at the former Piper Aircraft plant in the paint department. She had retired from Lock Haven Hospital's housekeeping department, where she worked from 1970 to 1976.
Mrs. Edwards was a member of the Caldwell United Methodist Church, a homemaker and enjoyed puzzles.
Survivors include two sons, Louis W. and his wife Ledesma Edwards of Virginia Beach, Va. and John W. and his wife Darlene Edwards of Mill Hall; three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Mary) Stringfellow of Lock Haven, Mrs. Ellen L. Tasin of Bradford and Betty C. Edwards of Lock Haven; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven. Officiating will be Pastor Viola Tyson. Interment will be in the Limestone Cemetery, Rauchtown, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to the Clinton County SPCA through the funeral home.

Virginia L. Hummel
Virginia L. Hummel, 61, of Howard, went home to the warm embrace of the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, in her home.
Born Oct. 9, 1943, in Lock Haven, she was the daughter of Faye Bechdel of Beech Creek and the late LeeLand Bechdel.
A devoted mother, gram, sister and aunt, she enjoyed her family, Sunday dinners at her mother s, car rides, church, shopping and most of all, her grandchildren.
She was an active member of the Beech Creek Wesleyan Church. She was employed at Woolrich, Blanchard for 25 years.
Also surviving is a companion George Aikey of Lock Haven; three children, Steven C. (Gayle) of Castanea, Brian A. (Bobbi) of Beech Creek and Wendy L. at home and her companion Alan Flanagan of Olanta; five grandchildren, Josh and Justin of Castanea and Courtney, Alicia and Victoria of Beech Creek; three sisters, Viola (Dave) Clukey of Castanea, Becky (Larry) Lavelle of Beech Creek and Judy (Bill) Saar of Linden, and one brother, LeeLand (Amy) Bechdel Jr. of Beech Creek.
Visitation will be held between 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at the W. Robert Neff Funeral Home in Howard. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at the Beech Creek Wesleyan Church, Route 150 and Maple Ave., Beech Creek. Officiating will be Pastor Alan Eckenroad. Interment will be held at Schenck's Cemetery in Howard.

Terry E. O'Laughlin
Terry E. O'Laughlin, 82, of Renovo, died at his residence on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004.
He was born in Renovo on Sept. 18, 1921, son of the late Edward and Grace Leahy O'Laughlin.
Terry was a St. Joseph High School graduate, worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and retired from Conrail as a trainmaster in 1981.
He was a life member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Renovo Elks and American Legion, and he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He enjoyed cars and car auctions, was a former airplane pilot, loved outdoor activities and especially loved family time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine A. O'Laughlin in March of 1997, whom he married in Erie on July 17, 1948. Also preceding him was his sister, Mary Margaret Jones.
Surviving are his daughter, Mary G. (John) Walchonski of New Hope; sons Terry O'Laughlin and William Pierce O'Laughlin, both of Renovo; and grandchildren, Katy, Alexandra, J.T. and Nick.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Fr. Donald Boslett celebrating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the Mass. Interment with military honors will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Heritage Park Association or Bucktail Medical Center.

William G. Berry
William G. Berry, 71, 317 Confer St., Mill Hall, died Jan. 2, 2004 in Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre.
Born May 31, 1932 in Mill Hall, he was a son of the late William T. and Zylphia Walker Berry.
He was a 1952 graduate of Mill Hall High School and worked for Piper until its closing. He then retired from the State College Area School District.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to Camp Confer in Orviston.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra J. Considine of Mill Hall; two brothers, Richard Berry of Chalfont and Ronald Berry of Mill Hall; two sisters, Judith Pursley of Altoona and Pearl Mumbauer of Muncy; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, William T. Berry in February of 1996; brothers Max Berry, Herbert D. Confer Jr. and Carl Confer; and sisters Lois Fetter and Margaret Confer.
Private services will be Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home Inc., 231 High St., Flemington. Interment will be in Hayes Fearon Cemetery. There will be family visitation only.
Violet R. Blaser
Violet Reeser Blaser, 82, of West Creek, N.J., formerly of Williamsport, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005 at the Ocean Co. Hospital in Mannahawkin, N.J.
She was born Sept. 9, 1922 and was married to William F. Blaser who predeceased her in 1996.
She had one daughter, Helen Marie, and two grandsons, Troy and Tracey Werts.
Harry T. Miller Jr.
Harry T. Miller Jr. of Syracuse, N.Y., died Jan. 1, 2005.
He was born in Lock Haven.
Surviving are a son, Fred Miller of Mill Hall; three daughters, Cheryl Litz of McElhattan and Frances Brown and Diana Seltzer, both of Mill Hall; 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was father to the late Thomas Miller.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Butler-Badman Funeral Home, 4504 W. Seneca Tpk., Syracuse, N.Y. Friends may call Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m.
Shirley W. Cunningham
Shirley Walker Cunningham, 69, of 1905 Elmhurst Ave., Jersey Shore, died Jan. 6, 2004 in the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. She had been in failing health for the past two months.
She was born Oct. 12, 1934 in Lock Haven and was a daughter of the late Samuel S. and Lilah Hunter Walker.
She was married to John L. Cunningham Sr., who preceded her in death on July 31, 1981.
Mrs. Cunningham was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Avis, where she was a member of the church choir.
She had worked at the Penn Woven Wire Company in Lock Haven. She had also worked for the DEP in Williamsport, where she did clerical work until her retirement in 1999. Shirley was also a part-time hostess for Susquehanna Trailways for a number of years.
She enjoyed plastic canvas crafts and had volunteered in the Jersey Shore community assisting with different choirs.
Survivors include a son, John L. Cunningham Jr. of Caldwell; two daughters, Janice C. Irvin of Jersey Shore, with whom she resided with for a number of years, and Gayle L. Cunningham of Linden; a sister, Mrs. William H. (Jacqueline M.) Smith of Mill Hall; four grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 9, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. in the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven. Officiating will be the Rev. George E. Doran, pastor of the Trinity Evangelical Church in Hughesville. Interment will be in the Rest Haven Memorial Park, Dunnstable Township. Friends will be received in the funeral home Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be accepted to the Trinity Lutheran Church of Avis, through the funeral home.
Eugene A. Winchester
Eugene Allen Winchester, 74, of Rimersburg, Pa., died Dec. 4, 2004 at Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Sligo, following a lengthy illness.
Born Jan. 18, 1930 in Lock Haven, he was a son of Harry Leonard and Rhea Wagner Winchester. He attended Jersey Shore schools and was an Army veteran, serving with the military police in Germany, Japan and Austria.
He worked 38 years at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center where he retired as maintenance foreman.
He is survived by his wife, the former Pauline E. Wool, whom he married July 26, 1952, in Immaculate Conception Church, Bastress; three sons, Eugene A. Jr. (Debra) of Weedville, Gordon J. (Alice) Rimersburg, and Jeffrey Lee (Brenda) of Butler; three daughters, Patricia J. Morris (Jeff McFall) of Monongahela, Robin Belmont (Raymond Moretti) of Rimersburg, and Debbie (Randy) Kelzenberg of Derby, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Scott (Mary Lee) of Avis; two sisters, Blanche Wool of Coudersport and Ruth Ann (James) Showers of Jersey Shore; and a sister-in-law, Mary Wool of Rimersburg who lives with the Winchesters.
Funeral services were held in Rimersburg with military honors. Internment was in Sigel, Pa.
Charles A. Vairo
Charles A. Sonny Vairo, 71, of 1819 Sulphur Run Road, Jersey Shore, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005 in the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Born Oct. 20, 1933 in Jersey Shore, he was the son of Charles Vairo and the former Mary DeGregorio.
He was married to the former Christine A. Garman. They were united in marriage Dec. 31, 1985.
In 1985, he retired from the Jersey Shore Steel Co. after 33 years of service.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the Avis American Legion.
Also surviving are a daughter, Jere L. Heivly of Jersey Shore; a stepson, Leslie W. Bogart Jr. of Jersey Shore, and his sister, Anna M. Miller of Jersey Shore. Also two grandchildren survive.
Services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Rosemary McCloskey
Rosemary McCloskey, 67, of 453 S. Fairview St., Lock Haven, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005 in the Lock Haven Hospital.
She was born Oct. 27, 1937 in Lock Haven, the daughter of the late Carmen and Theresa Vilello Mazzotta.
On Sept. 21, 1959 at the St. Agnes Catholic Church, Lock Haven, she married Alan K. McCloskey who survives.
She was a 1955 graduate of Lock Haven High School. She was currently employed with the Snowiss Fur Company, Lock Haven, where she has worked since 1987. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Lock Haven.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Brenda Traxler and her husband, James, of Mill Hall, Tina Rousseau and her husband, Michael, of Virginia Beach, Va. and Lisa Bressler and her husband, Michael, of Lock Haven; a son, Bryan McCloskey and his wife, Dawn, of Jersey Shore; two brothers, John Mazzotta of Delaware and Vince Mazzotta of State College; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Wessel.
The Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005 at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Lock Haven, with the Rev. Daniel J. O'Neill officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery, Lock Haven. Friends will be received at the Moriarty-Dutcavich Funeral Home, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven, on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m., with the Vigil for the Deceased at 5:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 35 Bellefonte Ave., Lock Haven, Pa. 17745.
Richard Z. Bagley
Richard Z. Dick Bagley, 75, of Susquehanna Township, a former reporter with the Patriot-News and founder of Bagley Public Relations, died Jan. 6, 2005 at home, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
A native of Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Edward and Elizabeth Thompson Bagley, a 1947 graduate of Lock Haven High School and studied photography at Kent State (Ohio) University before serving four-year stint in the Army.
He began his career as a reporter-photographer for the Lock Haven Express, and following military service, with the Williamsport Sun Gazette and the former Grit while attending Lock Haven State Teachers College. He later served as bureau chief and city editor respectively on newspapers in Lakeland and Winter Haven, Fla., before joining the Harrisburg Patriot-News in 1958, covering the courts and county government.
Later, he was a public relation account executive with Keisling-Greenlee Associates and with Edward C. Michener Associates, both of Harrisburg, before forming a public relations firm of his own in the mid-1970 s.
Starting as a sole practitioner, he was executive director of Pennsylvanians for Merit Selection of Judges, lobbying for the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, the Pennsylvania Chamber of Commerce and the Pennsylvania League of Women Voters. Later, with his wife Caryl as a business partner, they served a variety of clients including the Harrisburg School District, the Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg, AMP Inc. and the Pennsylvania Manufacturers Association.
He also had been executive director of the Pennsylvania Defense Institute for 18 years and of the Philadelphia Association of Defense Counsel for 15 years during his 25-year public relations career.
A graduate of the Army Information School at Carlisle Barracks, he was an Army combat correspondent-photographer and infantry veteran of the Korean War, rising to the photographic supervisor for the Seventh Infantry Division. He earned the Bronze Star Medal, the Korean Service Medal with three battle stars, the United Nations Service Medal and Commendation Medal for his ground combat photos and aerial reconnaissance photography behind enemy lines in Piper Cubs. He served from 1948 to 1952.
He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Perseverance Lodge F&AM, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Shrine Temple and a former member of St. Marks Methodist and Colonial Park Methodist churches of Harrisburg.
He was also a graduate of the Pennsylvania State Fire School at Lewistown and was a retired member of the Public Relations Society of America and former secretary of its Central Pennsylvania Chapter, the Pennsylvania Public Relations Society, the Defense Research Institute, American Judicature Society, Pennsylvania Society of Association Executives, the National Rifle Association, Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County, American Legion Post 1001 in Susquehanna Township and lifetime charter member of the National World War II Memorial.
He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his wife, the former Caryl Hoffman; a son, Richard Z. Chip Bagley Jr. of Lower Paxton Township and two nephews, Tim Hunter of Florida and Bob Hunter of Wake Forest, N.C.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and William and a sister, Jane Hunter.
Services will be held Monday, Jan. 10, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall. Friends and relatives will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Flemington First Church of Christ.
