Eva G. Showers
Eva G. Showers, age 83, of 508 Woods Ave., Flemington, died Nov. 11, 2004 in the Lock Haven Hospital. She had entered the hospital in early September. Mrs. Showers was born in Flemington on Aug. 14, 1921, a daughter of the late Samuel B. and Sarah Grubb Hardy. Eva was a graduate of the Lock Haven High School and a member of the Flemington First Church of Christ. A homemaker, she enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. Survivors include a son, James A. and his wife Jean Showers of McElhattan; two daughters, Mrs. JoAnne Foringer of Flemington and Mrs. Frances and her husband Robert Spangler of Avis; a brother, Samuel B. Hardy of Flemington; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Memorial services for Eva G. Showers will be held on Monday, Nov. 15, 2004 at 11 a.m. in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Dunnstable Township, Clinton County. Officiating will be the REv. Mark Riley of Flemington First Church of Christ. There will be no visitation. Memorial will be accepted to the church through the funeral home. George R. Ramser
George R. Ramser, 90, a resident of the Lock Haven Hospital Extended Care Unit, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002 in the extended care unit. Born in Swissdale, March 13, 1912, he was the son of the late John and Debbie Simcox Ramser. Survivors include nieces and nephews. Arrangements are being completed by the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, Lock Haven.

Robert P. "Bobby" Cohick
Robert P. "Bobby" Cohick, 64, of Salladasburg, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002 in the Williamsport Hospital. He was born Dec. 17, 1937 in Salladasburg, a son of the late James J. and Mildred I. (Gohl) Cohick. Robert was an owner and manager of Cohick Trading Post in Salladasburg and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and Penn State Nittany Lions. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing and country music. He was a member of the Salladasburg United Methodist Church and a graduate of Jersey Shore High School. Surviving are sisters Shirley Katherine (Marshall) Forrest of Bainbridge Island, Wash., Doris (Bob) Vanderscors of Marysville, Mich., and Mary Jane Ross of Salladasburg; brother James L. of Salladasburg; aunt Martha Maneval of Wellsboro; six nieces; four nephews; and several cousins. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002 in the Salladasburg United Methodist Church, with his paster, the Rev. Thomas Fetterolf, officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Salladasburg Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6:30 p.m. until the time of the service. The family will provide the flowers. Oscar William Bowes, 84, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, in the extended care unit at Lock Haven Hospital. Funeral arrangements are under direction of the Moriarty-Dutcavich Funeral Home, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven, and will be announced when completed.

Ethel P. Bowman
Ethel P. Bowman, 83, of Blanchard, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, in the Lock Haven Hospital extended care facility. She was born in Beech Creek on Jan. 5, 1919, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Ethel Mae Scantlin Bitner. Her husband, Samuel L. Bowman, died in August 1987. She was formerly employed in the housekeeping department at Penn State. Survivors include a son, Ronald L. Bowman, of Caret, Va.; three brothers, Gene, Joe and John Bitner, all of Lock Haven; and many step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Grubb and Blanche Jackson, and two brothers, William and Edward Bitner. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002 in the W. Robert Neff Funeral Home, 837 Main St., Howard. Rev. Russel J. Moldovan will officiate. Burial will be in Blanchard Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clinton County SPCA, 33 Mill Hill Road, Lock Haven, or the American Cancer Society.

Dorothy Mary Coatman
Dorothy Mary Coatman, 78, of 251 Coatman Lane, Howard, entered into rest on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at 6:30 a.m. at her residence, following an illness of 18 months. She lived in Curtin Township, Centre County, since 1986, and before that lived in Newport, Perry County. She was born in Hartford, Hartford County, Conn., a daughter of the late Joseph F. and Virginia Griffin Damroth. She was married in Wade County, North Carolina, on March 10, 1959 to Lester Robert Coatman. He died March 3, 2001. A graduate of Hartford High School in 1942, she was employed as a machinist by Pratt Whiting Aircraft Company in Hartford, while living there. While living in Perry County, she was an administrative assistant for medical claims for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg. She was a member of the Cat Fanciers Association and had a dear love of animals. Surviving are four sons, Lindsay Robert Coatman of Howard, Kenneth F. Roberts of Linglestown, Joseph R. Roberts of East Windsor, Conn., and Ronald E. Whaley of Howard; five grandchildren, and a sister, Marion Damroth, of Shermans Dale, Pa. She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Damroth, who died on March 29, 1939. Private funeral services and interment will be at the convenience of the family. Richard D. Shaffer
Richard D. Shaffer, 78, of 480 Shaffer Lane, Jersey Shore, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002 at his home. Born in Jersey Shore, Dec. 8, 1923, he was the son of Herbert and Mayme Gunsallus Shaffer. He was a graduate of Jersey Shore High School. He and his wife, the former June Womeldorf, were married June 10, 1944. She died March 23, 1993. He was a member of the former Epworth United Methodist Church of Jersey Shore and then became a member of the First United Methodist Church of Jersey Shore, serving on its audit committee. Nearly his entire life, he owned Shaffer Farms in Jersey Shore, operating a dairy farm and raising tobacco. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Holstein Association and the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and was a director for the Lycoming D.H.I.A. He was also recognized by the National Holstein Association for 50 years of dedicated service. His farm's milk was shipped to the former Herr's Dairy, where he was a member of the board. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. His survivors include five sons, Rick A. Shaffer of Jersey Shore, Jud K. Shaffer of White Plains, N.Y., Bob L. Shaffer of R.R. 4 Jersey Shore, Jeff L. Shaffer of Beavertown and Dave W. Shaffer of Chesapeake, Va.; two daughters, San McCracken of Mahopac, N.Y. and Sue Torok of Millers Creek, N.Y. There are 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Private family services will be held Monday, Nov. 25, 2002 from the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, A Life Celebration Home, of Jersey Shore, with his pastor, Rev. Keith Rockwell, officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Jersey Shore Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Diane B. Longe
Diane B. Longe, 56, of Miami, Fla., formerly of North Bend, died at Baptist Hospital in Miami on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003. She was born in North Bend on Aug. 10, 1947, daughter of Joseph J. and Christine Grover Bruskie. Diane was a 1965 graduate of Bucktail High School and a 1969 graduate with a bachelor of science from Bloomsburg University, and she obtained her M.A.T. from the University of Pittsburgh. She taught at Westinghouse High School in Pittsburgh and was a resident teacher at Schenley High School Teacher Center before moving to Miami. She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband, William Longe Jr. Private family graveside services will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery Chapel with Fr. Donald Boslett officiating. Memorials are requested to the Renovo Public Library in her memory. Maxwell Funeral Home of Renovo is in charge of the local arrangements.

Dennis L. Bower
Dennis L. Bower, 48, of Lock Haven, died Nov. 27, 2003 at his brother's residence in Williamsport. Born in Lock Haven, Nov. 25, 1955, he was a son of the late Raymond and Evelyn Bartholomew Bower. Survivors include one son, one daughter, four brothers and a sister. Burial and services will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home.

Shirley Ann Harpster
Shirley Ann Harpster, 63, State College, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003 at her residence. Born July 14, 1940 in Lock Haven, she was the daughter of the late Ellsworth T. and Gertrude L. Sheasley Conway. On June 25, 1960, she married Kenneth E. Harpster, who survives. She had previously been employed by Riverside in State College and had previously done house cleaning in State College. She enjoyed crafts, baking, crocheting and her cat. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, David E. Harpster and his wife, Tonnie, of State College and Robert A. Harpster of Spring Mills; a brother, John M. Conway of Aaronsburg; two sisters, Loretta M. Bowersox of Montandon and Mary Ann Ranck of Milton and two grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth E. Harpster Jr. Visitation will be private at the convenience of the family. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Rosecrans, Clinton County, with the Rev. Harry Brotzman Jr. officiating. E. Louise Emery
E. Louise Emery, 84, a former resident of Rose Street, Lock Haven, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003 at Susque-View Home, where she resided the past 14 months. She was born Nov. 14, 1919 in Tyrone, the daughter of James and Josephine (Miles) Cook. Her husband, Louis A. Emery, died in 1994. Mrs. Emery was a member of St. Luke's U.C.C. and enjoyed reading and jigsaw puzzles. She was a 1937 graduate of Tyrone High School and Philipsburg School of Nursing. Mrs. Emery retired as director of Community Service Nursing in Lock Haven. Earlier she worked as a nurse for Dr. Mervine and Dr. Treires. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Kephart of Horseheads, N.Y. and Beverly Sweitzer of Mill Hall; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Fisher and Thelma Rauch. Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, with her pastor, the Rev. John Silliman, officiating. Friends and relatives will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park. Dwayne Lee McCulley
Dwayne Lee McCulley, 16, 557 High St., Flemington, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident. He was born Jan. 20, 1987 in Williamsport, the son of Dwayne R. McCulley of Hughesville and Angela M. Summers of Flemington. He was currently a junior at Central Mountain High School. He enjoyed basketball, football, camping, and boxing, as well as attending auto races with his step-father, Leon M. Peasley Jr., Flemington. Surviving are a sister, Natasha McCulley of Flemington; a step-sister, Jordan Fulkrod of Jersey Shore; maternal grandmother, Elsa Kneller of Williamsport; maternal grandfather, Herman Summers and his wife, Diane, of Montgomery; paternal grandmother, Connie Winter and her husband, William, of Avis; step-grandmother, Diane Peasley of Jersey Shore; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home Inc., 231 High St., Flemington. Burial will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery. Carl E. "Bud" Aunkst Sr.
Carl E. "Bud" Aunkst Sr., 63, 535 S. Main St., Jersey Shore, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 26, 2003 at the Jersey Shore Hospital. Carl was born April 26, 1941 in Montgomery, the son of the late George Aunkst and the late Arlene E. Tubbs. Carl married Ethel L. Cruse and they would have celebrated their 40th anniversary on June 27, 2004. Carl enjoyed fishing, painting, and feeding the birds and squirrels. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends. He served on the board of Deacons at the Jersey Shore Presbyterian Church of nine years where he was a member. Carl was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife, Ethel L. Aunkst of Jersey Shore; a daughter and son-in-law, Crystal E.A. and Joseph P.C. Hauserman of Elimsport; two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl Skip and Lynette M. Aunkst Jr. of Salladasburg and Chris E. and Michelle L. Aunkst of Cammal; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Carl's memorial service will be at 1 on Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at the Jersey Shore Presbyterian Church, 235 S. Main St., Jersey Shore, with the Rev. Charles Winkleman officiating. There will be no visitation. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Carl to the Jersey Shore Presbyterian Church or the American Heart Association. Kathryn L. Powers
Kathryn L. Powers, 64, 25 Country Squire Court, Linden, passed away at her home, Nov. 22. She was born Dec. 29, 1928 and was married to the late Hardy R. Powers. Kathryn left behind her mother, Ida May Powers; two sons, Bill and Jay; a daughter, Amy Recka; two brothers, Art and Tom and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Powers. Graveside services were Wednesday in Brungard Lutheran Cemetery, Loganton.

John C. Ripka
John C. Ripka, 61, of Charlton, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004 at his residence, after a lengthy illness. Born April 4, 1943 in Pine Grove Mills, he was the son of the late Randall and Mary (Gibboney) Ripka. Mr. Ripka was married Feb. 8, 1964 to the former Katherine E. Halliburton. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. He currently was employed by Jersey Shore Steel, where he worked for the past 35 years. He was a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church and was a 1961 graduate of Sugar Valley High School. He enjoyed hunting, softball, bowling, horseshoes, and coached softball for Ely State Farm Insurance of Jersey Shore. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife; a son, John C. Jr. (Deanna) of Lock Haven; two daughters, Julie C. Hoffman of Woolrich and Jill C. Nyman of Avis; four grandchildren, John III, Justin, Katie, and Jacob; and four sisters, Lois Beck (Ralph) Killen of Alabama, Janet Summers (Mike) of Loganton, Joan Miller of Loganton, and Delores Sanders of Elkton, Md. He was preceded in death by a brother, James and a sister, Donna Quiggle. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004 at the Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, with Rev. Marie E. Lewis officiating. Friends and relatives will be received at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park. Betty A. Edwards
Betty A. Edwards, 55, 2345 Canoe Run Road, Jersey Shore, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004 in Williamsport Hospital. Born Sept. 3, 1949 in Lock Haven, she was the daughter of James Rishell and the former Norma E. Pyfer. She is survived by her husband, Joseph W. Edwards Jr. They were united in marriage June 28, 1972. Also surviving is a son, Joseph W. Edwards III, Jersey Shore. Funeral services will be Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004 at 11 a.m. in Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of services.

Margaret C. Davidson
Margaret C. Davidson, 88, of Rock Spring Village, Havre de Grace, Md., died Nov. 3, 2004. Born Aug. 27, 1916 in Tiadaghton, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Florence Carter of Jersey Shore. She was married to Lee E. Davidson on Oct. 25, 1951. She attended the Williamsport School of Nursing for two years and worked as a registered nurse at Harford Memorial Hospital for 30 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Fort Antes Chapter, Jersey Shore, and the Presbyterian Church of Havre de Grace. Surviving are a son, Lee Carter Davidson Sr., of Havre de Grace; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Davidson Wishart. Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery.

Albert N. Suiter
Albert Nicholas Suiter, 60, of 931 Third Street, Jersey Shore, died at his home on Nov. 3, 2004. He was born July 11, 1944 in Morristown, N.J., the son of the late Dr. James E. and Ida Higgison Suiter. He is survived by his former wife, Vivian L. Wilson Suiter, who lives in E. Juliet, Ga. A graduate of the South Georgia Technical School, he had worked as an auto mechanic. He was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Jersey Shore and considered himself a railroad nut. Mr. Suiter had previously lived in Macon, Ga. and Bonita Springs, Fla., before moving to Jersey Shore. Surviving are a daughter, Virginia Leigh Fleming of E. Juliet, Ga.; a brother, Galen Paul Suiter of Coosada, Ala.; three sisters, Margarita DeFore of Forsyth, Ga. and Anne Woodring and Julia Bledsoe, both of Reno, Nev. and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Anthony Evans Suiter in 1993 and James W. Suiter in 1965. Funeral services will be Nov. 8, 2004 at 10 a.m. in the Trinity Episcopal Church, 174 Mt. Pleasant Ave., Jersey Shore. Rev. Audrey Murdock, his pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Swissdale Cemetery, Lock Haven. Friends will be received one hour prior to services at the church. Carl L. Vroman Sr.
Carl Leroy Vroman Sr., 82, of Sixth Street, Renovo, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004 at the Bucktail Medical Center, where he had resided for the past five months. Born Oct. 11, 1922 in Renovo, he was the son of the late Thomas and Myrtle (Smith) Vroman. Carl and his wife, the former Sally Kepler, observed their 43rd wedding anniversary on May 12, 2004. He attended Renovo High School. He served during World War II as a member of the First Amphibious Brigade at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe, receiving the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. In the 1950s, he held offices at the local, district, state and national levels of the American Legion, where he was appointed district commander of the legion's District 16 in 1954. Carl was appointed as mayor of Renovo on Aug. 13, 1979, serving in that capacity until Jan. 1982. He was one of the committee members responsible for Christmas in Renovo in 1978, when they sold Christmas light bulbs and decorated the community Christmas tree. He was also instrumental in organizing the Great Model Train Race, where children of all ages brought their trains and raced them on tracks set up on the sidewalks in conjunction with a sidewalk sales event in Renovo. After returning from the service, he worked as a car repairman in the Pa. R.R. car shops and later as plant superintendent for Viclad Industries and Lifetime Pools in South Renovo. In 1965, he returned to work for the Pa. Railroad, where he worked as a trainman and conductor in passenger service on the Renovo to Buffalo and Renovo to Erie runs until leaving service in 1972. He later worked for the Greater Renovo Television Corporation and also as a newspaper photographer and advertising salesperson for The Record. He also did advertising for the Clinton County Shopper. His hobbies included woodworking, photography and model trains, and he enjoyed visiting with his family. Carl was a very outgoing person who was always willing to lend a hand to his friends and neighbors. He also was a bonded licensed locksmith. As a newspaper photographer, he had the opportunity to meet and photograph several presidents, Mohammed Ali and covered several space shuttle launches and landings. Most people will remember his model train layouts on floats in some of the Christmas parades in Renovo. Several years ago, he was one of two first prize winners (world-wide) in a photo contest sponsored by LGB of Germany which featured LGB trains and flowers. Mr. Vroman was a member of the former Shintown United Methodist Church and the North Bend United Methodist Church. He was a past chairman of the Renovo Area Council of Churches. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Carl Jr. (Anne) of Walworth, N.Y. and Earl of Marion, N.Y.; three daughters, Grace (Thomas) Simms of Austin, Nanci (Frank) Fragale of Palmyra, N.Y. and Jean (Robert) Zuback of Emporium; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Mary (Lawrence) Tolomay and Mrs. Virginia Johnson, both of Renovo and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. A memorial service (to be announced) will be held at a later date. Interment will be at the North Bend Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home Inc., Flemington. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bucktail Medical Center Skilled Nursing Facility or the North Bend United Methodist Church Building Fund.
