Gary A. Cottrell
CONNEAUT LAKE - Gary A. Cottrell, 49, of Conneaut Lake, died Friday, June 22, 2001, at Meadville Medical Center.
Born in Library, July 3, 1951, he was a son of Raymond Donald and Audry Williams Cottrell. He married Janice M. Hosick, April 7, 1984, at Lake Lutheran Church, Conneaut Lake.
He was a 1969 graduate of Conneaut Lake High School and a former employee of PPG, Meadville.
He attended Lake Lutheran Church.
He was a life member of Conneaut Lake Volunteer Fire Department and Conneaut Lake Park Fire Hall, a member of Meadville Elks Lodge 219, former member of Crawford County Amateur Radio Society and member of South Hills Amateur Radio Club. His call letters were WM3V. He was a past vice president of Conneaut Lake Water Authority, a member of Local, State and National Cerebral Palsy Inc., past president of Spinal Cord Society of Northwestern Pennsylvania and a board member of Community Resources for Independence of Erie. He was a member of Pine Lodge Free and Accepted Masons 498 of Linesville and Valley of Erie, Zem Zem Shrine.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 17 years, include two daughters, Rae Ann Davis and her fiance, Tim Carner, of Conneaut Lake, and Dawnelle Lynne Luppe and her husband, Earl, of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Shawna Davis, Bridgette Carner, John Cottrell and Aaron Luppe; and a brother, Clinton C. Cottrell of Pittsburgh.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Louise Cottrell.
Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home Inc., 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with a friend, William D. Sandburg of Lake Lutheran Church, officiating.

Harry (Bud) Hershberger III
Harry (Bud) Hershberger III, 54, of 10463 Cutter Road, Meadville, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Meadville Medical Center.
Born in Meadville Oct. 24, 1946, he was a son of Harry E. II and Ida Grace Anderson Hershberger. He married Dorothy Bowser, June 5, 1971.
He was a 1964 graduate of Meadville Area Senior High School. He was a graduate of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, receiving his bachelor of science degree in education in 1970, and a master's degree in education in 1972. He began teaching in 1970 with the Conneaut School District.
One of his favorite recess activities while teaching fourth and fifth grades was to organize and run silent kickball games with his students. His concern for his students went beyond the classroom, and he spent many hours talking to parents to devise the best approach to help a students with their education.
He was an avid outdoorsman who really enjoyed nature. He excelled at hunting and demonstrated his skills with the bow, pistol, muzzleloader and rifle. He also enjoyed supporting his son over the years in many baseball and soccer competitions and was very proud of his son's accomplishments.
He recently celebrated his 30th wedding anniversary. He was a CORE donor.
He was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his parents; a son, Garrett Vaughn Hershberger at home; an uncle; two aunts; and several cousins.

Jack L. McFadden
OIL CITY - Jack L. McFadden, 69, of RD 1, Oil City (Plumer), died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at his residence following an extended illness.
Born in Oil City Sept. 27, 1931, he was a son of James and Helen Reesman McFadden. He was first married to Marilyn McClelland for 31 years until her death in 1983. He later married Carol Strawbridge Swartz June 21, 1986, at Mt. Carmel Tabernacle, Dempseytown.
He attended the Oil City schools and was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army.
He had been employed as a yard foreman at Electralloy in Oil City until his retirement in 1993. He had also been employed by U.S. Steel, Oilwell Division, in Oil City and with Aspen Tree Co.
He was a member of Mt. Carmel Tabernacle where he attended Monday night Men's Disciple Club. He was a life member of Bruce Shorts Post No. 5958 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, playing pool and his pet dog, Precious.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 15 years, include three sons, Jack McFadden of Centerville, John McFadden of Oil City and Tim McFadden of Franklin; a daughter, Sharon Surrina and her husband, Rocky, of Centerville; a stepson, David Swartz of Erie; nine grandchildren, Jason, Jack, John, Joshua, Jeremy and Joseph McFadden, and Sarah, Jacob and Autumn Surrina; his adopted mother and fishing companion, Sally Proper; a brother, James McFadden of Oil City; three sisters, Grace Connolly of Bridgeton, N.J., Jane O'Dell of Silver Springs, Md., and Doris Hargenrader and her husband, Richard, of Oil City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert McFadden.

Richard Hugh Smith
LINESVILLE - Richard Hugh Smith, 66, of 7117 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare, Meadville.
Born in Meadville, June 19, 1935, he was a son of W. Lyle and Emily Rankin Smith. He married Faye Chatley Dec. 6, 1957.
He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and retired from Rockwell International of Ashtabula, Ohio, after 25 years.
He was a member of American Legion Post 462 of Linesville, Pymatuning Sportsman's Club of Linesville, and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Linesville.
An avid reader, he enjoyed sports trivia and history and was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Yankees fan.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 43 years, include three children, Lawrence L. Smith and his wife, Roxanne, of Meadville, Hugh C. Smith and his wife, Sandy, of Mechanicsburg, and Carole R. Walker and her husband, Douglas, of Linesville; four grandchildren, Matthew L. Smith, Justin M. Smith, Rebecca Alice Walker and Kristin Renee Walker; three sisters, Marylyle Johnson of Minneapolis, Minn., June Louise Butler of Pensacola, Fla., and Abigail Jones and her husband, David A. Jr. of Owasso, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, David Lyle Smith and Rankin F.T. Smith; and a sister, Eleanor Lee Smith.
The funeral will be private and at the convenience of the family.

George LeRoy (Cooney) Coon
FRANKLIN - George LeRoy (Cooney) Coon, 91, of RD 2, Franklin, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Meadville Medical Center.
Born in Reno Oct. 26, 1909, he was a son of Albert B. and Mary Hazel Rebecca Mong Coon. He married Elsie Harwick Jan. 2, 1932, and she preceded him in death July 3, 1999.
He was employed as a foreman at Wolf's Head Oil Refinery in Reno for more than 39 years, retiring in 1971.
He served in Reno Volunteer Fire Department for more than 35 years as chief of the department, and had been active in the Fire Chief's Association.
He was a member of Reno United Methodist Church.
He was a 32nd-degree Mason; a member of Franklin Moose Lodge, where he had served a term as governor; and a founding member of the Coon and Fox Club.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer, and enjoyed playing baseball in his younger years. He also enjoyed camping and family gatherings and events.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Lou Gilmore and her husband, Robert, of Meadville; two sons, Gary L. Coon and his wife, Arvilla, of Karns City, and William R. Coon Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Franklin; 11 grandchildren, William R. Coon Jr., Andrew Coon, Jacob Coon, Emily Hamby, George Coon, Sue Mershimer, Marshall Coon, Tracie Jones, and Tricia, Terri and Jeffrey Gilmore; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ila L. Coon of Reno.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Irma McLaughlin.

David E. Bailey Sr.
MASURY, Ohio - David E. Bailey Sr., 73, of Orange Village Care Center, Masury, Ohio, formerly of Scenic Mobile Home Park, Pymatuning Township, Transfer, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at the care center.
Born in Greenville Aug. 5, 1927, he was a son of Orrie and Vernie May Matthews Bailey.
He attended Kennard Schools, Mercer County, and worked as a meat cutter for several grocery stores in Mercer County for 42 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a staff sergeant with the National Guard Armory in Hermitage.
He enjoyed fishing, bird watching, watching TV and spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his neighbors.
Survivors include four daughters, Toni Kurelko of Sharon, Margaret Miller of Mercer, Kathryn Helsel of Grove City and Teresa Jones of Transfer; two sons, David E. Bailey Jr. and Patrick L. Bailey, both of Sharon; four sisters, Esther Swartz and Viola Ann Baker, both of Greenville, and Isabelle Ralston and Ruth Ann Bailey, both of Whittier, Calif.; four brothers, Robert Bailey of Meadville, Willis Bailey of Saegertown, and Orrie Bailey and Howard Bailey, both of Greenville; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Alterman, James Bailey and George Bailey.

Albert Griggs
ESPYVILLE - Albert Griggs, 81, of Espyville, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Rolling Fields, Conneautville, after a long illness.
He was born in Guys Mills Jan. 22, 1920, the son of Lynn P. and Louise Lattarer Griggs. He married Florence L. Tuttle Oct. 18, 1941. She preceded him in death in April 1997.
He was a dairy farmer for more than 50 years. He enjoyed bowling, golf and playing cards with his family. He enjoyed bowling, golf, and playing cards with his family.
Survivors include four daughters, Judith Bowman and her husband, James, of Meadville; Cathy Dyson and her husband, James, of Crystal Lake, Ill., Debra Yelenich and her husband, Ronald, of Townville, and Laurie Griggs and her husband, Mark Broughton, of Andover, Ohio; five sons, Lawrence Griggs and his wife, Jean, of Espyville, Daniel Griggs and his wife, Theresa, of Fort Worth, Texas, Russell Griggs and his wife, Vicky, of Swanton, Ohio, Jeffrey Griggs and his wife, Evette, of Mercer, and Albert Griggs Jr. of Ashtabula, Ohio; 21 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cornelia Mihoci of Hartstown, and Betty Mihoci of Espyville; a brother, Robert Griggs and his wife, Delores, of Espyville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; and a grandson, Michael L. Hood.

Justin Andrew Lehman
Justin Andrew Lehman, 10, of 513 Willow St., Meadville, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Meadville Medical Center.
He was born in Erie June 18, 1991, a son of Carl L. Lehman Jr. and Christiana Dooley.
He had just finished the third grade at Second District Elementary School and loved to play basketball and go fishing.
Survivors include his parents, Christiana Slater and Kevin Kline of Meadville, and Carl Lehman Jr. and Dorothy Shoffner of Conneautville; a brother, Christopher Slater of Meadville; a sister, Amanda Lehman of Warren, Ohio; maternal grandparents, Bernadette Ambuski and Gary Sandler of Long Island, N.Y.; paternal grandparents, Paul and Irene Lauderman; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Nicholas Lehman, in 1988.

Kevin Carlyle White
MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif. - Kevin Carlyle White, 42, of McKinleyville, Calif., died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in Six Rivers National Forest as a result of a boating accident on Fish Lake, in a remote area of Humboldt County in northern California.
He was born in Franklin Dec. 27, 1958, to one of the founding families of Venango County. He was a son of Joseph E. and Marjorie Cobb Ladd White. He married Cheryl Collins.
He was raised in Cochranton and upon his 1977 graduation from Cochranton Junior-Senior High School, moved west to Denver, Colo., and later to San Diego, Calif. A 1988 graduate of the California Culinary Academy of San Francisco, he subsequently relocated to the northern California area to open Brahma's Restaurant, where he was the chef/owner. At the time of his death, he was the chef at the Silver Lining Restaurant in Arcata, Calif. He also worked as an independent restaurant consultant. He was a mentor and a model for all those who worked for him.
Throughout his life, he loved spending time outdoors. As a youth, he and his brother spent days in the woods, exploring and fishing. As an adult, he took his sons camping, fishing, hunting and mushroom picking. He was an avid outdoorsman and died while fishing - doing what he loved most.
He was a kind, generous and very loving husband, father and friend. He had a quick wit and a ready laugh. He was a daredevil who enjoyed bungee jumping. He loved his family, and that of his siblings and friends. He also enjoyed his devoted Dalmatian dog, Camille. Kids of all ages loved him, and appreciated his warm and nurturing spirit. He loved teaching many friends how to fish, hunt and camp.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 18 years, include his mother, Marjorie Cobb Frampton of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; two sons, Morgan Hamilton White, and Joseph (Joey) Shields White; four sisters, Brenda Lee McMaster of Buffalo, N.Y., Kathy Jensen of Marina, Calif., Jolene White-Armstrong of Laguna Niguel, and Melissa White of Russellville, Ark.; two brothers, David B. White of Garden Grove, Calif., and Terry C. Wilcox of North Tonawanda, N.Y.; several aunts, uncles and innumerable friends; and his beloved nieces and nephews, including Sarah and Christopher White.
He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents, Howard and Naomi White; and his maternal grandmother, Olive F. Ladd.
The funeral was June 12 at which time some of his cremains were inurned at Greenwood Cemetery in Arcata, Calif., and some of the ashes were scattered at sea, off Trinidad Point along northern California's beautiful Pacific coast.

Amos Carl Stewart
Amos Carl Stewart, 63, of 209 Spring St., Meadville, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001.
He was born in Calenburg April 19, 1938, a son of Ira Lee and Martha Washington Stewart.
He served in the U.S. Army and worked at Mike's Place and the Scoreboard Tavern.
He lived with friends at Carousel House and was known as the "Mayor of Fifth Ward."
Survivors include two sisters, Laura B. Mook of Roseville, Calif., and Dorothy M. Gregory of Orangeville, Calif.; two brothers, Charles Clyde Stewart of Conneaut Lake, and Frank A. Stewart of Meadville; and caretakers, Jamie and Bill Lilley.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mini Fink; and three brothers, Gerald C., Eugene and Arthur Stewart.

Robert Luther Stafford
Robert Luther Stafford, 89, of 13329 Calvin St., Meadville, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Wesbury United Methodist Community following a period of declining health.
Born in Meadville Oct. 9, 1911, he was a son of Charles and Carrie Ella Schneider Stafford. He had been married to Mary Stainbrook and subsequently married Alyce Brown Nov. 30, 1957. She preceded him in death in December 1988.
He was a much decorated U.S. Army veteran of combat in both World War II and the Korean War, retiring after 24 years of active military service. He was awarded the Bronze Star for outstanding combat performance in the Korean War and received the Purple Heart for his wounds in France during World War II. Other decorations include the combat infantryman's badge with star, European theater of operations ribbon with combat battle stars for Normandy, Northern France, Central Europe and the Rhineland campaigns, and the Korean service ribbons with three battle stars.
After retiring from the Army, he lived in Orlando, Fla. from 1968 to 1983 working for Pinkerton Security Services.
He was a member of Harm Jan Huidekooper Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 and Charles N. Stafford American Legion Post 111. This American Legion Post is named in his brother's honor who was killed in action during World War I.
Survivors include a daughter, Jean Flickinger of Meadville; a son, Robert Charles (Bud) Stafford of Central Coast, Australia; a stepson, Wayne Hoffman and his wife, Harriette, of Meadville; nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Arthur and Myron; and four sisters, Bertha, Katherine, Gertrude and Esther.

Susan A. Hovenac Boyle
SAEGERTOWN - Susan A. Hovenac Boyle, 97, of Route 198, Saegertown, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Crawford County Care Center.
Born in Czechoslovakia March 29, 1904, she was a daughter of Michael and Mary Petrenchik. She married John Hovenac, who preceded her in death. She later married Nicholas Boyle, who also preceded her in death.
She had previously had been employed by the former American Viscose Corp. and Talon Inc.
Survivors include a son, John Hovenac and his wife, Mary, of Meadville; two daughters, Elaine Beard and her husband, Ed, of Moore, Okla., and Ophelia Hastings and her husband, Lew, of Meadville; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.

Dorothy D. (Dot) Adams
Dorothy D. (Dot) Adams, 85, a resident of Beverly Healthcare, Meadville, died there Sunday, June 17, 2001.
She was born in Armstrong County May 16, 1916, a daughter of Harvey Winkleman and Edith Adams Allen. She married Leonard L. Adams March 2, 1937. He preceded her in death March 3, 1997.
She was employed in pilot production at Talon Inc. for 22 years, retiring in 1979.
She was a past member of Meadville Eagles Auxiliary. She loved bingo, crocheting and bird-watching.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth C. Adams and his wife, Jane, of Meadville, and LeRoy Adams and his wife, Donna, of Indianapolis, Ind.; three daughters, Carol Miller and her husband, David, of Meadville, Gloria Sopher of Saegertown, and Janis Vanderslice and her husband, Dewayne, of Meadville; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

SAEGERTOWN - James R. Hofius, 73, a resident of Quality Living Center, Saegertown, died there Tuesday, June 18, 2001.
He was born in Meadville Oct. 5, 1927, a son of John E. and Marion Beth McKinney Hofius.
He was employed at American Viscose Co. for 35 years and attended Grace United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Roy R. Hofius of Meadville; several grandchildren; a sister, Marian Kellogg and her husband, Ron, of Bradford; and nieces and nephews.

Viva Clary Heath
Viva Clary Heath, 82, of Meadville, died Sunday, June 17, 2001.
Born in Bennetown Feb. 2, 1919, she was a daughter of Percy V. and Helen Chamberlain Clary.
She worked as a spinner at American Viscose for 25 years. In 1971, she moved to Bradenton, Fla., from Meadville, then returned to Meadville in 1999.
She was a charter member of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church in Bradenton. She loved her church and was a member of the Crafty Society, which made crafts to sell for contributions to missionary work. Every three months for 21 years, she took part in preparations for communion at the church, including baking the bread that was served.
Survivors include her daughter, MaryJo Sanner and her husband, Frank, of Meadville; a son, Thomas Bensinger of Louisiana; three grandchildren, Jody Slingluff, David Sanner and Holly Adams; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Blanche Clary and Florence McClintock.
Services will be at a later date.

John Hritzay
CONNEAUTVILLE - John Hritzay, 80, formerly of Bateman Avenue, Cranesville, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Rolling Fields, Conneautville, after a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 12, 1921, in Wood, a son of Paul and Xenia Karpovich Hritzay.
He retired from Morelite in Girard, where he worked as a press operator after several years of service.
He served in the U.S. Army in the military police company, aviation, during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Chaklos Hritzay; a daughter, Dorothy Hritzay of Washington, D.C.; a son, James Hritzay of California; two brothers, William Hritzay of Conneautville and Alex Hritzay of Saegertown; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Olga Hritzay, and a brother, Michael Hritzay.

Joseph J. Mogush
Joseph J. Mogush, 82, of 19988 Talon St., Meadville, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Meadville Medical Center.
Born in Adah March 19, 1919, he was a son of George and Eva Tomasic Mogush.
He attended Littles Corners School and retired from the Pennsylvania Fish Commission where he worked in the maintenance department.
He was a member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church and a former member of Hayfield Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed attending auctions.
Survivors include three sisters, Rose Franklin and her husband, Ben, of Daly City, Calif., Ann Webb of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Evelyn Almgren and her husband, Louis, of Clarksville, Ark.; three brothers, John Mogush of Pittsburgh, Michael Mogush and his wife, Barbara, of Edinboro, and Frank Mogush and his wife, Mildred, of Meadville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Mulvey and Helen Kardosh; and a brother, Charles Mogush.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Roofner-Collins Funeral Home, 544 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral and committal service will be Friday at 10:30 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gregory P. Passauer of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church officiating.
Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Crossingville.

Helen Saber
CONNEAUTVILLE - Helen Saber, 91, a resident of Rolling Fields, Conneautville, died there Monday, June 18, 2001.
She was born in Kerbet Anafar, Lebanon, Feb. 14, 1910, a daughter of George and Ida Saber. She married John A. Ferris, a partner in Ferris Brothers Clothing Store on Water Street, Meadville, in 1925. He preceded her in death in 1945. She later married Louis Elias in 1949 and he preceded her in death in 1964.
She had worked in restaurants in California and Ohio, and also did baby sitting in Arizona.
She was a member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking Lebanese foods.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Lyons and her husband, Ralph, of Meadville; a son, attorney Thomas J. Ferris and his wife, Ernestine, of Pittsburgh; eight grandchildren, John, Jeannine, James and Jeffrey Lyons, Joyce Uplinger, Mark and Stephan Ferris, and Lisa Ernst; a sister, Ann Gosser of Cleveland, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Maurice (Mo) Ferris; two sisters, Alice Lessing and Shafea; and a brother, Shaffie Saber.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Roofner-Collins Funeral Home, 544 Chestnut St., Meadville, with a scripture prayer service at 8:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, with the Rev. Regis J. Meenihan, pastor, as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Brigid Cemetery.
Dorothy L. Broms
Dorothy L. Broms, 83, of 571 Chestnut St., Meadville, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Meadville Medical Center following a period of declining health.
She was born in Pittsburgh Feb. 27, 1918, a daughter of Einer and Emma Ogren Walter. She married Charles H. Broms Sept. 18, 1937, and he preceded her in death Nov. 13, 1989.
A graduate of McKeesport High School, she worked at Talon Inc. for 33 years, retiring in 1981 as an inspector.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Meadville Elks Lodge 219 Auxiliary, Meadville Women's Club, and a member and active volunteer of the Meadville Medical Center Auxiliary for almost 20 years.
Survivors include a son, Chuck Broms and his wife, Karen, of Cary, N.C.; two grandchildren, Kristen Broms and J.B. Broms; two great-grandchildren; three sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty St., Meadville, with the Rev. David R. Hosick officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Mildred Durasa
CONNEAUTVILLE - Mildred Durasa, 74, formerly of RD 1, Springboro, died Monday, June 18, 2001 at Rolling Fields, Conneautville, after a long illness.
She was born in Pittsburgh, July 7, 1926, a daughter of Elmer and Rosella Reinersman Schirmer. She married Michael J. Durasa, who preceded her in death Feb. 9, 1996.
She was a member of St. Philip's Church, Crossingville.
She enjoyed watching television and her family.
Survivors include a son, James Durasa of Adamsville; a daughter, Pauline Griffin and her husband, Mike, of Cochranton; a sister, Margaret Adams and her husband, Robert, of McKean; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two brothers, Lawrence Schirmer of Wisconsin, and Howard Schirmer and his wife, Doris, of Albion; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Schirmer.
Calling hours will bre Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Samuel J. Steff Funeral Home, 188 E. State St., Albion, with parish prayers to be recited at 8:30 p.m. Prayer services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Duane W. (Chick) Murray
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Duane W. (Chick) Murray, 93, of 2150 S.W. 10th Court, Delray Beach, Fla., died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Delray Beach.
Born in Grove City Aug. 16, 1907, he was a son of Harry D. and Lena D. Murray. He married his wife, Helen P., Dec. 19, 1933. She preceded him in death June 9, 2000.
He graduated from Grove City High School, attended Grove City College, graduated from North Carolina State University in 1932 and was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity.
He was employed by Talon Inc. in Meadville from 1935 until he took early retirement in 1968. Most of his 33 years of service were in managerial positions. For 11 years prior to retirement, he was general planning manager.
He was a life member of Meadville Masonic Lodge 408 and a life member of Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Consistory of Erie. He was awarded his 50-year Masonic Service Emblem in December 1995. He was a past member of First Presbyterian Church of Meadville, Zem Zem Shriners Temple, Erie, Talon Management Club, National Management Club and the Country Club in Meadville.
At Boynton Beach, Fla., he was a past member of First Presbyterian Church, Chamber of Commerce, Palm Beach Leisureville Men's Golf League and a life member of Palm Beach Masonic Square Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Louise Bates and her husband, John D., of Sacramento, Calif.; a son, Douglas P. Murray of Lumberton, N.C.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald G. of Lake Worth, Fla., and John M. of Allison Park.
The memorial service is today at 2 p.m. at Abbey Center, 2000 Lowson Blvd., Delray Beach, with the Rev. Randall M. Gill of First Presbyterian Church of Boynton Beach officiating.
The cremains will be buried at Greendale Cemetery, Meadville.

Robert Luther Stafford
Robert Luther Stafford, 89, of 13329 Calvin St., Meadville, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Wesbury United Methodist Community following a period of declining health.
Born in Meadville Oct. 9, 1911, he was a son of Charles and Carrie Ella Schneider Stafford. He had been married to Mary Stainbrook and subsequently married Alyce Brown Nov. 30, 1957. She preceded him in death in December 1988.
He was a much decorated U.S. Army veteran of combat in both World War II and the Korean War, retiring after 24 years of active military service. He was awarded the Bronze Star for outstanding combat performance in the Korean War and received the Purple Heart for his wounds in France during World War II. Other decorations include the combat infantryman's badge with star, European theater of operations ribbon with combat battle stars for Normandy, Northern France, Central Europe and the Rhineland campaigns, and the Korean service ribbons with three battle stars.
After retiring from the Army, he lived in Orlando, Fla. from 1968 to 1983 working for Pinkerton Security Services.
He was a member of Harm Jan Huidekooper Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 and Charles N. Stafford American Legion Post 111. This American Legion Post is named in his brother's honor who was killed in action during World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Jean Flickinger of Meadville; a son, Robert Charles Stafford of Central Coast, Australia; a stepson, Wayne Hoffman and his wife, Harriette, of Meadville; nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Arthur and Myron; and four sisters, Bertha, Katherine, Gertrude and Esther.

Larry J. Clark
HADLEY - Larry J. Clark, 62, of 3802 Perry Highway, Hadley, Sandy Creek Township, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, following an unexpected illness.
Born in Sandy Creek Township March 27, 1939, he was a son of James Frank and Ruby M. Roberts Clark. He married Mary E. Russell Aug. 20, 1960.
He had served with the U.S. Air Force in Korea following the Korean Conflict.
He was employed in the railroad industry, having retired in 2000 as a yard master from Conrail at the Goodman Yard in Lordstown, Ohio.
He was of the Protestant faith and was an active member of the Arro Forge Golf League of Meadville.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 40 years, include his mother of Hadley; a daughter, Denise Palmero and her husband, Larry, of Cambridge Springs; a son, Michael J. Clark and his fiancee, Mary Kelly, both of Oil City; four grandchildren, Michael, Carly, Matthew and Marcus Palmero; a sister, Wanda Shaft and her husband, Robert, of Meadville; and two brothers, Richard Clark and his wife, Deb, of Sandy Lake, and Gordon Clark of Mercer.
The memorial service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Sheakleyville United Methodist Church, Perry Highway, with the Rev. Jim Callender of First Church of God of Cambridge Springs officiating, assisted by the Rev. Glea Foster of Sheakleyville United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in Stevenson Cemetery, Greenville.

CAMARILLO, Calif. - Donna Seaman Brown Arnold, 86, died peacefully in Camarillo, Calif. Saturday, June 9, 2001.
She was born in Guys Mills April 15, 1915, a daughter of Otto J. and Mabel Loro Seaman.
She had been a member of First Christian Church of Meadville for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert, of Camarillo; two sons, Gary Brown of Collegeville and Douglas Brown of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Bunny Leatherwood of North Carolina and Nancy Marriott of Los Angeles, Calif.
Graveside services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Radle Cemetery, Randolph Township.

Robert F. Schandelmeier
Robert F. Schandelmeier, 65, of 2582 Brick Church Road, Cochranton, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at UPMC-Horizon Hospital, Greenville, after an extended illness.
He was born June 2, 1936, in Altoona, a son of Charles and Catherine Van Coor Schandelmeier. He married Nancy L. Titus on May 25, 1968.
He graduated from Tyrone High School.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict and was a member of the APHA and the AQHA.
He worked as a truck driver, blacksmith and farmer.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kelly Alter of Cochranton and Tammy Barr of Conneautville; two sisters, Becky Akins of Huntington and Lola Akins of Tyrone; six brothers, Harold Schandelmeier of Monroeville, Kenny Schandelmeier of Alder, Mont., Melvin Schandelmeier of Alexandria, William Schandelmeier of Ormond Beach, Fla., Jack Schandelmeier of Tampa, Fla. and Don Schandelmeier of Prescott.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, Charles and Cecil.

Theodore E. Heckman
Theodore E. Heckman, 90, of 14770 Hatch Hill Road, Meadville, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at the Crawford County Care Center.
He was born Jan. 1, 1911, in Brookville, a son of Issac and Nancy Myers Heckman. He married Hila Hamler in 1934.
He was a graduate of Brookville High School.
He retired form the Pennsylvania State Employment Service in 1976 after 32 years of service, the last 24 of which he was manager of the Meadville office. Following retirement he worked for Tom DeLoe and Park real estate offices.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II.
He was a 50-year life member of the Meadville Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Thora Resinger of Meadville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five sisters.
