Fred Riley Umholtz
VALLEY VIEW - Fred Riley Umholtz, 78, of 303 Gap Street, died Monday, May 24 at Schuylkill Center in Pottsville. Born June 13, 1925 in Valley View, he was the son of the late James S. and Della Schreffler Umholtz. He was a retired maintenance worker for Kocher Coal Company in Valley View and also worked as a supervisor at the former Muskin Shoe Company in Millersburg. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley View where he served on the building and organ committees, Council, as Sunday school superintendent and the in the church choir. He also was a life member of VFW Post No. 8237, American Legion Post No. 575 and Valley View Fire Company, all in Valley View. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having received four battle stars, Unit Citation and two Good Conduct Medals from the 88th Infantry Division serving in Italy. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Elda A. Feger Umholtz; a son, Ronald E. of Dauphin; and two granddaughters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert. Funeral services were held May 27 from his church. Burial with military honors was in the church cemetery. Renee M. Wilhelm
HALIFAX - Renee M. Wilhelm, 54, of 17 North Front Street, died Monday, May 24 at the Harrisburg Hospital. Born March 16, 1950 in Pillow, she was the daughter of the late David and Florence Witmer Schreffler. She had worked for the former Johnson and Bailee shoe company in Millersburg. She was a member of Matamoras Community Church in Halifax.; Women of the Moose No. 1083 in Millersburg; and Halifax VFW No. 5750 Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband, James F Wilhelm; a son, Troy of Buffalo, NY; a daughter, Tonya Patrick of Halifax; five brothers, Bob Schreffler of Georgia, Jim Schreffler of Harrisburg, Clarence Schreffler of Pillow, Mark Schreffler of Nebraska and Glenn Schreffler of Herndon; five sisters, Leah Lesher of Millersburg, Ruth Daniels of Herndon, Linda Scheib and Suann Stiely, both of Millersburg, and Debra Kish-Schreffler of Elizabethville; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Dean, Phil, Dale and Gene; and an infant sister. Graveside services were held May 28 at Riverview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, 3544 North Progress Ave., Suite 202, Harrisburg 17110. Thomas H. Howe
SOUTH HANOVER TWP - Thomas H. Howe, 80, of South Hanover Twp., died Sunday, May 23 at Community General Osteopathic Hospital. Born May 17, 1924 in Wiconisco, he was the son of the late Harry W. and Gertrude Hoffner Howe. He was retired from Capital Area Transit after 37 years of service. He also was a carpenter and specialized in custom cabinetry kitchens. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He attended Word of Life Chapel in Halifax. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Betty J. Brinser Howe; two sons, Steven L. Howe and Jeff S. Howe; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held May 26 from Hoover Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Linglestown. Burial was in Hanoverdale Cemetery, South Hanover Twp. Kathryn Neiman
TOWER CITY - Kathryn Neiman, 52, of 9253 Clarks Valley Road, died Sunday, May 30 at Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Sept. 12, 1951, she was the daughter of Richard and Joyce Paul McCue of New Cumberland. She was a supervisor with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in Harrisburg, and a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Reinerton; Women of the Moose in Tower City; Tower City American Legion Auxiliary; and Gratz VFW Auxiliary. She also served as a former Girl Scout leader. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Kenneth L.; a daughter, Barbara K. Rodichok of Tower City; a son, Rodney L. Bush of Tower City; a step-daughter, Ann McAllister of Elizabethville; a step-son, Skip Neiman of Orwin; two sisters, Betsy Wacker of Tower City and Irene Warrenfletz of Dover; a brother, Edward McCue of Mechanicsburg; her father, William Martz of Sunbury; two grandsons; three step-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 4 at 11 a.m. from her church. Viewing will be Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the chapel of Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc. in Tower City; and Friday, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church, prior to services. Mary E. Schade
TOWER CITY - Mary E. Schade, 80, of 23 S. Seventh Street, died Monday, May 24 at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown. Born Dec. 14, 1923 in Hebe, she was the daughter of the late Ramsey E. and Sallie E. Smeltz Boyer. She was a retired seamstress from the former Bestok garment factory in Tower City. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Williamstown; Tower City American Legion Auxiliary where she served as an officer; and Williams Valley Senior Citizens. She also served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for many years. She was the widow of Leroy K. Schade and also was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Derl and Ronald Boyer. Surviving are two daughters, Rosann E. Miller of Elizabethtown and Candice E. Miller of Williamstown; three sons, Steve L. of Williamstown, Richard A. of Orange, Calif. and Jeffrey L. of Annville; a brother, Elwyn Boyer of Pillow; three sisters, Arlene Dinger of Hegins, Mabel Klinger of Fearnot and Yvonne Dreibelbis of Virginia; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held May 28 from the chapel of Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc. Burial was in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Mark E. Snyder
LECK KILL - Mark E. Snyder, 77, of HC-63, died Monday, May 24 at his residence. Born Dec. 6, 1926 in Red Cross, he was the son of Carrie C. Zartman Snyder of Grayson View, Selinsgrove, and the late Clarence N. "Nips" Snyder, and was a graduate of Pine Park High School in Leck Kill. He was a lab technician for Dupont in New Castle, Del., having retired in 1985, and was a member of Himmel's Lutheran Church in Rebuck where he served on various committees and as a former church council member. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife of 52 years, Jean M. Clark Snyder; a daughter, Connie L. Ness of Gladstone, Mich.; two sons, Mark S. of Parker, Colo. and Paul B. of El Cerrito, Calif.; and seven grandchildren. Memorial services were held May 27 from Himmel's Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Loy E. Spotts
DALMATIA - Loy E. Spotts, 93, a resident of Susquehanna Lutheran Village, formerly of Dalmatia, died Tuesday, May 25 at the village. Born Nov. 9, 1910 in Herndon, she was the daughter of the late Charles R. and Sallie Tressler Wiest. She attended the public schools in Herndon and graduated from Millersburg High School, Class of 1920. She also was a graduate of Shippensburg Normal School, Class of 1931, and was certified in elementary education. She taught in the Lower Mahanoy Twp. schools, Mahanoy Joint School District and Line Mountain School District, having retired in 1976. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Dalmatia where she served as pianist and adult Sunday school teacher, and was active in church and civic affairs. She was the widow of Robert J. Spotts. Surviving are two sons, Vance C. Spotts of Hummelstown and Richard J. Spotts of Hegins; five grand- children; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held May 28 from her church. Burial was in Herndon Cemetery, Inc. in Herndon. Memorial donations may be made to Susquehanna Lutheran Village, 990 Medical Rd., Millersburg 17061. James A. William J. Kitting
LYKENS - William J. Kitting, 76, died Friday, May 28 at Harrisburg Hospital. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Moyer Kitting, three daughters, Theresa Kitting of Lykens, Marcella Roady of Williamstown, and Tammy O'Donnell of Harrisburg; a step-son, Ralph Moyer of Williamstown; grandchildren; and great-grand- children. Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing or visitation. John R. Shultz Funeral Home in Lykens was in charge of arrangements.

Geraldine W. Martz
MILLERSBURG - Geraldine W. Martz, 90, of 1205 S. 28th St., Harrisburg, formerly of 288 Pine Street, Millersburg, died Monday, May 24 at Harrisburg Hospital. Born June 11, 1913 in Millersburg, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Catherine Wingard. She was a lasting room technician for more than 30 years, having retired from Johnson and Bailee shoe factory in Millersburg. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Millersburg. She was the widow of William Martz and also was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris J. Alleman. Surviving are a brother, Ralph Wingard of Port Orange, Fla.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held May 28 from Reinhard Funeral Home, Inc. in Millersburg. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Charles A. Grayam
MILLERSBURG - Charles A. Grayam, 86, of 300 Moore Street, died Sunday, May 23 at Harrisburg Hospital. Born May 23, 1918 in Clendenin, W. Va., he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Grayam. He was a retired laborer of more than 30 years for E.I. Dupont in Belle, W. Va. In the early 40s, he served as the chief of police in Clendenin. He was a member of Jodie Baptist Church in Jodie, W. Va.; Salina Lodge No. 27 AF&AM in Malden, W. Va.; and Scottich Rite Masons in Charleston, W. Va. He was the widow of Edith I. Coleman Grayam. Surviving are a son, Kirk Schneck of Philadelphia; a daughter, Debra R. Miller of Millersburg; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held May 28 from Boynton Beach Memorial Park, Boynton Beach, Fla. Eddie A. Hartman
GRATZ - Eddie A. Hartman, 78, of Market Street, died Monday, May 24 at Sunbury Community Hospital in Sunbury. Born Feb. 10, 1926 in Gratz, he was the son of the late Ray and Tillie Klinger Hartman. He was a retired truck driver from M&G Convoy and a member of Simeon United Lutheran Church in Gratz; Gratz Borough Council; Gratz Fire Company and Gratz Old Timers. He was a social member of the Lykens Twp. VFW. He was the widower of Margaret Bixler Hartman, and also was preceded in death by a son, Randy. Surviving are four daughters, Vickie R. Welker of Mechanicsburg, Suzette C. Leitzel of Harrisburg, Jan L. Olmos of Valley View and Ann M. Dunkelberger of Elizabethville; two brothers, Richard and Raymond, both of Gratz; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held May 30 from his church. Burial was in Gratz Union Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society-Dauphin Unit, 1500 North Second St., Harrisburg.

Winfred D. Evans
WILLIAMSTOWN - Winfred D. "Bim" Evans, 89, of 455 Greenfield Street, died Monday, May 24 at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Pottsville. Born Jan. 26, 1915 in Williamstown, he was the son of the late Harry and Emma Shomper Evans. He was a retired carpenter with Pennsylvania National Guard at Ft. Indiantown Gap in Annville. He also was a retired self-employed carpenter. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served at Pearl Harbor. Surviving are his wife, Pearl M. Carl Evans; a daughter, Patsy A. Durkin; a granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral service were held May 27 from the chapel of Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc. in Tower City. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
