Dorothy B. BARCLAY, 93, of 1007 Mifflin St., Huntingdon, died at 3 p.m.
Monday, Oct 1, 2001, at the Valley View Retirement Community.
Belleville. She was born July 10, 1908, in Manor Hill. the daughter of
the late Charles E. and Carrie M. (Hutchison) Bilger. She was united in
marriage to William J. Barclay in September 1926, at the St. James
Lutheran Church in Huntingdon, with the Rev. Edmund L. Manges
officiating. She was preceded in death by her husband Nov. 21, 1974. She
is survived by two daughters; Mrs. Ross (Jeanne B.) Metz of Allensville
and Mrs. Ronald (Marjorie B.) Pawlowski of Huntingdon, R.D. 3., and by
14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren . She was preceded in death
by one son and three daughters; William J. Barclay Jr.; Betty Grannas;
Joan Largent and Marie Dudick. Surviving are the following sisters and
brother: Ethel Hughes of Alexandria. Plummer Bilger of Alexandria, Ella
Streightiff of Huntingdon and Ruth Glenny of Petersburg, RD She was
preceded in the death by two brothers and three sisters; Charles Ernest
Bilger Jr.. James Bilger Gladys Bilger, Margaret Keller and Lois Pearl
Hearn. Mrs. Barclay was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in
Allensville. During her life she operated a dairy farm in ShaversCreek
with her husband until 1957 and held a number of positions in the State
College area until her retirement. She was a charter member of the
Shavers Creek Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary and enjoyed cooking,
canning, gardening and reading Funeral services will be held Friday,
Oct. 5, at 11 a.m., at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home in Huntingdbn,
with the Rev. Anna M. Ritter officiating. Interment will be made in the
Mooresville Cemetery, Petersburg. RD. 1.


Earl H. HORTON, 65, of 321 N. Homestead Dr., Landisville, died Monday,
Oct. 1, 2001, in Essa Flory Hospice Center, Lancaster, after a long
illness. Born in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Harold H. and
Elizabeth (Holland) Horton. He married Nancy Reifsnyder 41 years ago.
Mrs. Horton survives at home, along with a daughter and two sons: Mrs
John D (Pamela A.) Yagel, Midland. Mich.; Christopher D. Horton and
Timothy A. Horton, both of Lancaster There are five grandchildren. A
1954 graduate of Huntingdon High School, he earned a bachelor’s degree
in 1958 from Shippensburg State University and a master’s of education
degree in 1963 from Penn State University. He received his doctorate
degree in education in 1985 from Nova University in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
He also did graduate work at Bucknell University and Penn State
University from 1964 until 1972. An educator for more than 33 years, Mr.
Horton was Hempfield School District superintendent from 1987 until his
retirement in 1992. At the end of his career at Hempfield, he also
served as administrative assistant. He previously was superintendent of
Shikellamy School District in Sunbury for 17 years and chief school
administrator of SUN Vo-Tech for nine years. He first worked at
Shikellamy as an elementary school teacher for six years. then as head
teacher for nine years. He was assistant elementary principal from 1967
until 1969, and elementary principal from 1969 until 1970. Mr. Horton
was the longest-tenured superintendent in the Center Susquehanna
Intermediate Unit. He began his teaching career in the Huntingdon School
District, where he taught for a number of years. He was a former Title I
evaluator and served on state advisory councils on reading and nutrition
education and training. He also was a higher education program evaluator
for the Pennsylvania Department of Education. He received the Education
Excellence Award from the Pennsylvania Association of Elementary and
Secondary. School Principals in 1994 and was named outstanding alumni of
Shippensburg University in 1993. In 1999, he was honored with the Friend
of Family and Consumer Sciences Award by the Pennsylvania Association of
Family and Consumer Sciences for his support of home economics/family
and consumer sciences programs. He served for 18 years on the
Pennsylvania State Board of Education, the longest service in the
history of the state, including a term as chairman of the Council of
Basic Education In 1983, he was selected to represent Pennsylvania for
the State Board of Education in Japan, studying its education system.
Mr. Horton served in many capacities, including president of the
Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators (PASA). For 12 years,
he served as PASA representative on the Pennsylvania Interscholastic
Athletic Association. He also was a member of the Association for
Supervision and Curriculum Development, American Association of School
Administrators, Schoolmen’s Club and American Educational Research
Association. Mr. Horton was awarded the Phi Delta Kappa Outstanding
Administrator of the Year Award in 1991 and was one of five national
awardees to receive the Distinguished Service Award from the American
Association of School Administrators in 1993. In 1967, he was named
Outstanding Young Man of the Year by the Sunbury Jaycees. A U.S. Air
Force Reserves veteran, he served with the 112th AC&W from 1958 until
1962 in Germany. He belonged to the American Legion. Mr. Horton was a
member of the Church of the Apostles, United Church of Christ,
Lancaster, where he served in numerous lay positions including a term as
council president. He was a former member of the First United Church of
Christ, Sunbury, where he served as finance chairman. While living in
the Sunbury area, he served as a member of the Sunbury Redevelopment
Council, director of the Sunbury YMCA and president of the Kiwanis Club
and Susquehanna Valley United Fund, director of the Youth and Community
Center and vice president of Industrial Development Committee. He also
served as secretary of the Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce. In
Lancaster, he was treasurer of Leadership Lancaster and was a board
member of Lancaster Farmland Trust. In his retirement, he enjoyed
traveling, hunting, fishing and reading. A memorial service wilt be held
Saturday, Oct. 6, at 10:30 a.m., at the Church of the Apostle,
Lancaster. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in
Huntingdon. 

Grace K. HERSHEY, 88, formerly of Three Springs, died at 10:36 am.
Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at the Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia,
where she had been residing. Born Feb. 24, 1913, in Cass Township,
Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur and Roxel
(Stever) Lynn. She married Ebert R. Hershey Oct. 2, 1932. Mr. Hershey
preceded her in death Aug. 15, 1963. Surviving are a daughter. Marjorie
H. Rupert of Three Springs. a son, Valgene M. Hershey of Three Springs,
three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren
and six step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Carl
Lynn of Cassville, and a sister, Nelda Rowe of Mapleton, RD. One
grandson is deceased. Mrs. Hershey had attended the First Baptist Church
of Three Springs. She was a member of the Three Springs Volunteer Fire
Company and during her life was employed as a clerk at various
supermarkets but mostly at Stinson’s Market, Three Springs. Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at the Martin R. Brown
Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with the Rev. David Ford officiating. Interment
will be made in the Three Springs Cemetery. 

George F. STONE, 90, formerly of Hesston, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001,
at 8:55 p.m., at The Oaks, Westminster Woods, Huntingdon. Born Jan. 7,
1911, in Hesston, he was a son of the late Clarence H. and Lena Belle
(Fink) Stone. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was
preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers: Cornett Yocum, Meda
Showers, Maud Stone, Blaine Stone and Hiram Stone. Several nieces and
nephews survive. Mr.. Stone was a member of Standing Stone Post No. 1754
VFW. and Frank P Hommon Post 24. American Legion, both of Huntingdon. He
retired from the U.S. Army in 1962. with the rank of sergeant first
class. During World War II, he served with the 98th Signal Battalion and
received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service
Stars for the New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Luzon campaigns. He
was also the recipient of the Meritorious Service Unit Emblem, the Army
of Occupation Medal with Japan Clasp, and the Philippine Liberation
Ribbon with one Bronze Star. Mr. Stone enjoyed gardening, baseball,
woodcutting and keeping in touch with friends via greeting cards.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct., 6, at 11 a.m., at the
Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Richard Harter
officiating. Interment will be made in the Grove Cemetery, James Creek,
RD. 1. 

Clara E. "Kiss" PRICE, 90, of Huntingdon Manor, formerly of 700
Washington St., Huntingdon. died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at 1:40 p.m.,
at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Sept. 20, 1911, in
Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late Harry John and Clara
Elizabeth (Wheeler) Hummel. She married Vernon J. Price Aug. 27, 1929,
in Mount Union. He preceded her in death Dec. 22, 1965. Surviving are a
son, Edward L. Price of Huntingdon, seven grandchildren and 17
great-grandchildren. One son, Robert V. Price preceded her in death Dec.
14, 1985. Three sisters and a brother survive: Winifred Henney,
Huntingdon; Erma Sloan, Spartanburg, S.C.; Virginia Swanger, State
College; and Richard Hummel, Ohio. Two brothers and two sisters preceded
her in death: Elmer Hummel, John Hummel, Ruth Murphy and Helen Bennett.
Mrs. Price was of the Protestant faith. Educated in the public schools
of Huntingdon, she was employed by Buck’s Laundry and Dry Cleaning,
Gerbo Footwear and Dairy Queen. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, HAM radios
and baseball. She was a Dallas Cowboy football fan. Funeral services
will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, at 11 am., at the John B. Brown Funeral
Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. James L. Blair officiating. Interment
will be made in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. 

August ‘Gus’ TOTH, 89. a resident of RD. 1, Box 387B, Huntingdon, since
1979, died at 9:20 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at 2001 at Centre Community
Hospital, State College. Born in Flemington, N.J. June 20, 1912, he was
the son of the late August and Therressa (Halasz) Toth. He was preceded
in death by his wife Virginia May (Schaaf) Toth Jan 28, 1997. They were
married in Baptistown, N.J. May 16, 1942, by Rev, Monard G. Sanford. Mr.
Toth is survived by one daughter. Dianne T. Ake of Martinsburg. and two
sons: Barry Douglas Toth, Gales Ferry, Conn.; and David Bruce Toth,
Sunnyvale, Calif. Also surviving are two grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren. One sister, Helen (Toth) Young, Milford. N.J.,
survives. Mr. Toth was preceded in death by a step-sister, Susan White,
and by a brother, Joseph Toth. He was a member of the Huntingdon
Presbyterian Church and the William Penn Association, Pittsburgh. He
enjoyed gardening, traveling, boating and was an avid reader. He
attended the public schools of Milford and Flemington, N.J. and
graduated from Frenchtown High School in 1930. He received a B.S. in
mechanical engineering from Layfette College, cum laude and Thu Beta Pi,
in 1942. He received his master’s in engineering from Layfette College
in 1950. Following high school graduation, he worked at Frenchtown
Porcelain and as a musician with a dance band in Easton in the l930s.
Later, from 1942 to 1946, he was employed as a mechanical engineer with
Aluminum Co. of America in New Kensington. From 1946 to 1955, he worked
for Pyrene Manufacturing Co. in Newark, N.J. He worked for Potter
Aeronautical Corp. in Union. N.J. from l955 to1962 and from 1962 to 1968
with Young Machinery Co. in Muncie as executive vice president. From
1968 to his retirement in 1979, he was president/treasurer of Personnel
Pool of Orange County, Inc. in Orlando, Fla. Funeral services will be
held Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the John B. Brown Funeral Home,
417 Washington St., Huntingdon. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery,
Huntingdon. 

Sandra M. WHITE, 56. of 845 Little Greenbriar Road, McVevtown, formerlv
of Lancaster, died at 7:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at her home,
following an extended illness. Born Feb. 4, 1945, in Lancaster, she was
the daughter of the late Norman Martin and Lottie (Snook) Martin Stout,
who resides in Lancaster. She was united in marriage to Charles Eugene
‘Gene’ White on June 13, 1987. Her husband survives along with two sons,
Gregory S. Fisher, Seaford. Del., and Dennis L. Fisher; Lancaster. Also
surviving are two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her
brother, Barry Martin. Mrs. White was a member of Cedar Crest-Lucy
Furnace Chapel, Mount Union. R.R. 1. She served as a volunteer for
Huntingdon Manor and enjoyed doing crafts. She also liked hunting and
fishing and tying flies, Before her illness, Mrs. White had worked most
recently at Oven One, in the C.H. Miller Hardware building, Huntingdon,
for four years. Prior to this, she had been employed fur nine years by
the AMP Corp., Lancaster. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am.
Monday, Oct. 8, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with
Pastor Jeff Winstead officiating. Interment will be in Haven Rest
Memorial Park, Shirleysburg RR1. 

Sara Fulton YOUNG, 92, of Pennknoll Village, Everett, formerly of
Hopewell. died at 12:25 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2001 in Pennknoll Village,
following an extended illness. Born Sept. 12, 1909 in Saxton, she was
the daughter of the late George and Katurah (Kensinger) Hollingshead.
Her husband, Curtis B. Young, survives. Also surviving are two sisters:
Geneva Isenberg of Martinsburg and Ruth Dudding of Pittsburgh. Mrs.
Young was preceded in death by eight brothers and four sisters. She was
a member of the Stonerstown Church of the Brethren. She was also a
member of the Hopewell Area Senior Citizens and the Broad Top Area
Senior Citizens. Primarily a homemaker, she also was employed for
several years at Bedford Springs Hotel, Bedford. She enjoyed
leathercraft and find-the-word puzzles. Funeral services will be held
Monday, Oct. 8 at 10 a.m., at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton,
with the Rev. Ron Doverspike officiating. 

Rozella A. "Rosie" BRODZINA, 90, of Epworth Manor, Tyrone, formerly of
Warriors Mark, RD., died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Tyrone Hospital
following a brief illness. She was born Nov. 2, 1910, in Roaring Spring,
the daughter of the late George Knisely and Nannie (Erb) Myers. She
married Frederick C. Brodzina Dec. 8, 1945, in Roaring Spring. Her
preceded her in death Nov. 22, 1989. She is survived by one daughter and
three sons: Barbara Brodzina of Boston. Mass.; John F Brodzina of
Huntingdon Furnace; Robert G. Brodzina of Warriors Mark, RD. and Thomas
J. Brodzina of Warriors Mark. RD., as well as by two granddaughters and
four grandsons. She was preceded in death by one brother and two
sisters. Mrs. Brodzina was a member of the Gatesburg Lutheran Church.
She was a graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Class of 1927, and
graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Nursing in
1932. She was an assistant supervisor of the private pavilion at
Graduate Hospital. Philadelphia, from 1932 to 1934; general duty nurse
at Olean General Hospital. N.Y., from 1935 to 1936; supervisor of the
private floor at Roosevelt Hospital. N.Y., from 1936 to 1942. She served
in the Army Corps from 1942 to 1946 as chief nurse of the surgical
division, Ninth Evacuation Hospital, in the European Theatre of
Operations during World War II.	She was a recipient of the Bronze Star,
the Meriterous Service Patch and seven Battle Stars. From 1953 to 1964,
she worked as a private duty nurse at Philipsburg and Tyrone hospitals.
She was a member of the Warriors Mark-Franklin Volunteer Fire Company’s
Ladies Auxiliary, serving as president for several years. She was a
charter member of the Central PA Ostomy Society, serving s treasurer
from 1972 to 1991. She was also a member of the Halfmoon Valley Grange
No. 290, where she served as secretary for 10 years, the Halfmoon Senior
Citizens and the American National Red Cross Nurses. Funeral services
will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the Bruce E. Cox Funeral
Home, Warriors Mark, with the Rev. Marleen Griffith-Stull officiating.
Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park in Bellwood. 

Catherine A. "Kitty" HILEMAN, 82, of 605 Sixth St., Huntingdon, died at
10:25 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001. at JC. Blair Memorial Hospital. She
was born April 13, 1919, in Altoona, a daughter of the late David V. and
Hazel A. (Shellenberger) Nardon. She married Robert R. Hileman Dec. 13,
1941, in Winchester, Va. He preceded her in death Jan. 23, 1987. She is
survived by one son, Robert R. Hileman Jr. of Huntingdon, and three
grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, John S. Nardon of
Altoona. She was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Perttu. Mrs.
Hileman was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Huntingdon. She
was a graduate of Altoona High School, Class of 1938, and was employed
as a program assistant by Information and Referral, Huntingdon. She was
an active church member, served as a volunteer at J.C. Blair Memorial
Hospital in the gift shop and insurance office and was a member of
Huntingdon Business and Professional Women’s Club. Funeral services will
be held at 11 am. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at the First Presbyterian
Church, Fifth and Mifflin streets, Huntingdon, with the Revs. Leslie
Papp and Tom Warne officiating. Interment will be made at the Alto Reste
Cemetery, Altoona. 

Jane Ford KIEFMAN, 81. of Lynchburg, Va., died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at
her residence. Born Sept. 24, 1920, in Hopewell, she was the daughter of
the late David and Effie (Warsing) Ford. She was the wife of the late
Robert Russell Kiefman. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Dave (Joy
K.) Wriston of Lynchburg, Va., and two grandchildren. She is also
survived by two sisters, Ruby Auman of Everett and Grace Snyder of
Altoona. Mrs. Kiefman was a member of the Thomas Road Baptist Church,
where she was also a member of the Senior Saints Ministry and God’s
Chosen Women. She was a retired postal clerk with the United States
Postal Service. Funeral. services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct.
11, at the Long Funeral Chapel, 715 Church St., Saxton. Interment will
be made at Hopewell Cemetery. 

Judy Irene MILLER, 42, of Clover Drive, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Three
Springs, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at Altoona Hospital, following an
extended illness. Born April 1, 1959, in Huntingdon, she was the
daughter of Irene (Baker) Miller of Three Springs, RD, and the late
Stanley L. Miller. She is survived by her mother; her maternal
grandmother, Lillian Baker of Three Springs, and by a brother, Allen S.
Miller of Carlisle. She is also survived by a niece. Ms. Miller attended
the Calvary Independent Baptist Church in Saltillo and the Grace Bible
Church in Hollidaysburg. She was a graduate of Southern Huntingdon
County High School, Class of 1977, and attended Penn State’s Altoona
campus. She was employed by Altoona Hospital for 14 years as a
phlebotomist and an EKG technician. Funeral services will be held at 2
p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the Calvary Independent Baptist Church,
Saltillo, with Pastor Tom Maurer officiating. Interment will be made at
Three Springs Cemetery. 

Roberta B. WISE, 83, of Woodland Retirement Center, formerly of Dudley,
died at 1:35 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at Woodland Retirement Center.
She was born March 12, 1918, in Kearney, the daughter of the late Easton
and Ann Barton. She married Cletus Wise Dec. 19, 1936, in Berkeley
Springs, W.Va. He preceded her in death May 10, 1988. She is survived by
two sons, Jack Wise and Jay Wise, both of Dudley; four grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her
immediate family, having been preceded in death by her parents, a sister
and a brother. Mrs. Wise was a member of the Dudley United Methodist
Church, Dudley. She was primarily a homemaker, who enjoyed quilting,
puzzles and her memberships in the Dudley Homemakers and the Hopewell
Senior Citizens. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at
the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home, Broad Top City, with Pastor Joanne
Dugan officiating. Interment will be made in the Dudley Protestant
Cemetery, Dudley. 

Anita Stewart FREAS, 84, resident of the Shirley Home for the Aged,
Shirleysburg, formerly of 311 Third St., Huntingdon. died at 11:10 am.
Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at the Woodland Retirement Center in Orbisonia.
She was born Feb. 8, 1917, in Huntingdon, the daughter of the late Jack
and Mabel (Stewart) Freas. Miss Freas was of the Protestant faith. She
attended Huntingdon area schools and had lived at the Shirley Home since
August 1968. A memorial service will be held at the Shirley Home for the
Aged Friday, Oct. 12, at 3 p.m.. with Mr. Dale Edgins officiating.
Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. 

Verna B. RUSSLER, 68, of R.R.1, Box 319, Petersburg, died at 11:20 am,
Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at her home following an extended illness. She
was born June 28, 1933 in Mapleton, the daughter of the late Dorsey and
Florence (Hoover) Gray. She married Donald G. Russler Aug. 22, 1951 in
Bellwood. She is survived by her husband at home. Also surviving are two
daughters and two sons; Mrs. Richard (Sherry Diane) Albright of
Blanchard, Mrs. Allan (Donna Lee) Pruey of Petersburg, Thomas Alvin
Russler of Petersburg and Donald E. Russler of Huntingdon; eight
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a
brother, Dorsey Rolland of Duncannon, and two sisters, Monetta Kline of
Duncannon and Myrtle Romine of Mount Union. She was preceded in. death
by a brother and six sisters. Mrs. Russler was of the Protestant faith.
She attended Mapleton public schools, was a lifetime resident of
Huntingdon County and had resided at her current home for the past 19
years. She was primarily a homemaker. A private graveside service will
be held at 3 p.m. today, Oct. 10, at the Mooresville Cemetery, West
Township, with the Rev. James I. Blair officiating. 

Donald G. STAKE, 71, of Harrisburg, formerly Mount Union, died Monday,
Oct. 8, 2001, at Harrisburg Hospital. He is survived by his companion,
Eva Prichard; two stepdaughters, Janet L. Jones of Harrisburg and
Beverly J. Flynn of Florida, and two stepsons, Michael W. Prichard of
York Haven and Roger H. Prichard of Hummelstown. Nine step-grandchildren
and five great-step-grandchildren also survive. A sister, Ann Stake of
Harrisburg, also survives. Mr. Stake was retired from State of
Pennsylvania Security, Indiantown Gap, and worked as a bar manager and
member of the Rutherford American veterans Post No. 286, Harrisburg. He
was a WW II U.S. Army veteran. Funeral services will be held at 11 am.
Friday, at the Neumyer Funeral Home, Harrisburg. A graveside service
will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at the Mount Union Cemetery. 

Merl F. BECKER, 89, of the Falls Village Retirement Community in
Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, formerly of Dudley, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001,
at 4:05 am., at Falls Village following a brief illness. He was born
Aug. 4, 1912, in Meyersdale, the son of the late William and Sarah
(Miller) Becker He married Alice B. Ford June 25, 1935. She preceded him
in death March 12, 1991. He is survived by four sons: Eugene Becker of
Macedonia, Ohio; Dewayne Becker of Martinsburg; William Becker and Gary
Becker, both of Akron. Ohio. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 54
great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by three sisters: Annie Becker, Bertha Rush and Alice Taylor;
by two brothers, Orville Becker and John Becker. One son, Gerald Becker,
preceded him in death. Mr. Becker was a member of the Finleyville Union
Church. During his life he was primarily a coal miner and worked in the
Broad Top area for over 40 years. He also worked on the construction of
the tunnels for the Pennsylvania Turnpike. He was a member of District 2
Local 1968 of the United Mine Workers of America and loved to hunt and

Margaret M. CORNELIUS, 91, of the Valley View Home in Altoona, formerly
of Six Mile Run, died at 10:30 am. Thursday, Oct., 11, 2001, following
an extended illness. She was born Nov. 4, 1909, in Six Mile Run, the
daughter of the late Frank and Florence (Banks) Winfield. She married
Alphonse G. Cornelius April 9, 1949, in Pittsburgh. He preceded her in
death April 4, 1980. She is survived by one brother, Kenneth M. Winfield
of Roaring Spring, and two sisters, Reba Haywood of Detroit, Mich., and
Lois Lutz of Marion, Ohio. She is also survived by a number of nieces
and nephews. She was preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Cornelius was a member of the Six Mile Run Church of God. She was a
member of the Hopewell Senior Citizens and worked as an Avon sales
representative in the Broad Top area for 27 years and was active in the
Six Mile Run community. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday,
Oct. 14, at the Six Mile run Church of God with Pastor Stanley Cordell
officiating. Interment will be made in the Duvall Cemetery, Six Mile
Run. 

John W. HACK, 46, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at his Summerhill
Development home, near Dublin Mills, Springfield Township. Originally
from Philadelphia, he was the son of the late James E. Sr. and Elizabeth
M. Hack. He is survived by five brothers and one sister: James E. Hack
Jr., Robert Hack, William Hack, Joseph Hack, Timothy Hack and Betty
Marie DeGroff, the later of whom resides in Neelyton. Also surviving are
15 nieces and nephews and eight great-nieces and great-nephews. He was
preceded in death by one brother, Jackie Hack. A graveside service was
held today, Friday, Oct. 12, at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Wyndmoor.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Pluehr Funeral
Home, Bensalem. 

Susan Salome DAVIS, 86, of Southside, Alexandria, died at 6:15 am.
Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at the Alexandria home of her son and
daughter-in-law, following an extended illness. Born July 16, 1915, in
Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Gustave Altman and Mae
(Spyker) Graffius. She married Joseph Vincent Davis Sept. 28, 1935, in
Petersburg. He preceded her in death Oct. 13, 1988. Surviving are two
sons, Joseph Dain Davis and Daniel S. Davis, both of Alexandria. Two
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. She is survived
by one brother, Robert Graffius of Everett. She was preceded in death by
two sisters and two brothers. Mrs. Davis was a member of the First
Presbyterian Church of Alexandria, where she sang in the choir and
served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of
the William P. Spyker American Legion Post No. 520 Ladies Auxiliary,
Alexandria; the Alexandria Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary and the
Petersburg Homemakers. A 1933 graduate of the Petersburg vocational High
School, she was a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County and had lived
at her current home for over 50 years. During World War II, she worked
at Owens Corning Fiberglas and served as a volunteer forest fire
"lookout’ on the Tussey fire tower. She also worked at Dore’s Shoe
Store, the Vogue Shop and for many years as a home nurse. She retired
from the ELCO Corporation in 1975. She was active in the Juniata Valley
Teener Baseball League and Cub Scouts during the l950s and l960s and
enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States and abroad.
Her last trip was to Greece. She also hand drew a complete set of maps
for the Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery. A memorial service will be
held Sunday, Oct. 14, at the First Presbyterian Church of Alexandria,
Hartslog Street and Shelton Avenue, Alexandria, immediately following
the 4 p.m. interment in Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery. The Rev. John
C. Dean will officiate. 

David M. KOSYK, 48, of Mechanicsburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at
Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill. Born in Huntingdon, he was the son of
the late Walter and Thelma (CuIp) Kosyk. His is survived by his wife,
Gayle A. (Hollinger) Kosyk, and by two children, Sara and David ‘Bucky"
Kosyk. at home. Mr. Kosyk attended the Bowmansdale Church of God. He was
a former vice president, coach and commissioner for the Mechanicsburg
Little League Association and a coach for Special Olympics. He was an
assistant coach for the Capital Junior AAU Baseball Team and coach for
the Mechanicsburg/Upper Allen Teener Association. Mr. Kosyk was also a
member of the Mechanicsburg Club. He was employed as the east coast
sales supervisor for D&H Distribution and was a former employee of the
Harrisburg Senators baseball team. Funeral services will be held at 2:30
p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Mechanicsburg Brethren in Christ Church,
1050 South York St., Mechanicsburg, with the Rev. Kenneth Hepner
officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the
Malpezzi Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. 

Dr. Robert H. BECK, 84, of 2315 Highland Ave., Huntingdon, died at 3
p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2001 at the Oaks at Westminster Woods. He was born
May 12, 1917, in Huntingdon, the son of the late Xopher H. and Maud
(Miller) Beck. On Aug. 24, 1938, in Hagerstown, Md., he married Betty
Stouffer, who preceded him in death April 20, 1961. He married Pauline
Sims Nov. 2, 1969, at the 15th Street United Methodist Church,
Huntingdon. with the Rev. Rayvon Hilliard officiating. He is survived by
his wife, at home, and by one daughter. Patricia Beck of Huntingdon. One
daughter, Susanna (Beck) Greenleaf, preceded him in death. He is also
survived by one sister, Betty Beck of Huntingdon. and one nephew. One
sister, Joanna (Beck) Pechmann Burkholder, and one brother, Claude
Edward Beck, who died in infancy, preceded him in death. He was also
preceded in death by a nephew. Dr. Beck was a member of the 15th Street
United .Methodist Church, Huntingdon. where he served on various
committees, sang in the Chancel Choir and taught Sunday school. He was a
member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the Huntingdon County
Medical Society. AMA, the Huntingdon County Historical Society, the
Huntingdon County Library, Juniata College Friends of the Library and
was former chairman of the board of Huntingdon County Children’s
Services. He graduated from Huntingdon High School, Class of 1934, and
earned his bachelor’s degree from Juniata College in 1938. He received
his doctorate from Temple University Medical School in 1942 and from
1942 to 1944, he served his internship at Lancaster General Hospital.
From 1944 to 1946, he served his residency at the Cleveland Clinic. He
returned to Huntingdon in 1946, where he operated a private medical
practice until retiring in 1984. Dr. Beck, who had lived at his Highland
Avenue address since 1953, enjoyed the outdoors and fishing, was an avid
reader and was greatly interested in Huntingdon County. His home, family
and church were very important to him. Funeral services will be held at
4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at the 15th Street United Methodist
Church, 15th and Moore streets. Huntingdon, with the Rev. David L.
Dearing officiating. Private interment will be made at Riverview
Cemetery. Huntingdon. 

John W. HANKS, 88, of Huntingdon, R.D. 3, Penn Township, died at 4:45
p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at his home. Born Nov. 8, 1912, in
Clearville, he was the son of the late William C. and Mary (Beatty)
Hanks. He married Phyllis I. Wasson Aug. 6, 1935, at the Methodist
parsonage in Martinsburg, W.Va., with the Rev. Harry Wheeler
officiating. He is survived by his wife, at home, and by two sons, Jere
W. Hanks of Hesston and Robert D. Hanks of Smithfield. He is also
survived by two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Two brothers,
Donald N. Hanks of Chambersburg and Harry E. Hanks of Everett survive.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence H. Hanks. Mr. Hanks
was a member of the McConnellstown United Methodist Church, a 50-year
member of the Mount Moriah Lodge No. 300 of the Free and Accepted
Masons, Huntingdon, and a 50-year member of the Harrisburg Consistory
where he was a 32nd degree Mason. He was also a member of the Jaffa
Shrine, Altoona. He attended school in Bedford County until 1928, when
his family moved to Huntingdon County and he attended Huntingdon High
School. In 1931, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the Army
Corps of Engineers until being honorably discharged in 1934. He worked
for the Brumbaugh Company Store, the Reeves Parvin Company and the State
Correctional Institution, Huntingdon, before beginning his employment
with the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He retired in 1977
with 22 years of service. Funeral services will be held at 11 am.

Huntingdon, with the Rev. Ruth Ann Campagna officiating. Interment will
be made in the Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Huntingdon, R.D. 1. 

Raymond I. FETZER, 90, of State College, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001,
in State College. Born Feb. 24, 1911, in Boggs Township. he was the son
of the late Theodore and Gertrude (Inhoof) Fetzer. He married Olive L.
Sheesley May 18, 1931. She survives at home. He is survived by two
daughters and six sons: Marian 0. Shultzaberger of Tyrone; Carol D.
Yurick of Alpharetta, Ga.; Raymond L. Fetzer of Cardington, Ohio; the
Rev. L. Dean Fetzer of Bethany, Mo.; Ted Fetzer of Huntingdon; Joseph S.
Fetzer of Mount Union; Paul D. Fetzer of State College and Larry J.
Fetzer of Smyrna, Del., as well as 23 grandchildren, 20
great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. A brother,
Albert Fetzer of Spring Mills, survives. Mr. Fetzer was a member of the
Milesburg God’s Missionary Church. Milesburg. During his life, he worked
in poultry research and development at Penn State University, retiring
May 1974. after more than 33 years of service. He enjoyed gardening.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the
Milesburg God’s Missionary Church. Milesburg, with the Revs. Herman Noll
and Stephen Davis officiating. Interment will be made in the Centre

Leona E. FOUSE, 87. of Valley View Retirement Community in Belleville,
formerly of Mill Creek, died at 1:52 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at
Valley View, where she had lived since May 1997. She was born Feb. 6.
1914, in Williamsburg. the daughter of the late Abram and Clara
(Detweiler) Huntsman. She married Fred K. Fouse Oct. 7, 1933 in
Marklesburg. He preceded her in death April 3, 1981. She is survived by
two son;. Fred W. Fouse of Livingston, Mont., and Gene Fouse, as well as
by three grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Three sisters
and four brothers also survive: Evelyn Coder of Florida; Ross Huntsman,
Hesston, R.D. 1; Sarah O’Donnell, Shirleysburg; Abram Huntsman,
Alexandria. R.D.; Anna Forshey, Martinsburg; Floyd Huntsman of
Punxsutawney and Clinton Huntsman of Mount Union. RD. She was preceded
in death by four brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Fouse was a member of
the Mill Creek United Methodist Church. For a number of years during her
life, she was employed by Motel 22. Private funeral services will be
held at the convenience of the family at the Robert E. Peters Funeral
Home. Huntingdon. with the Rev. Faust Hissong officiating. Interment
will be made in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Huntingdon, R.D. 1. 

Beverly E. KAUFFMAN, 52, of Huntingdon, R.R. 2, was pronounced dead at
about 1 am., Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at the scene of an automobile
accident in Oneida Township. Born July 17, 1949, in Bellefonte, she was
the daughter of William and Alverta (Lentvotsky) Peters of Huntingdon.
She married Gary E. Kauffman Oct. 14, 1967. He survives at home. She is
survived by two daughters and one son: Mrs. Jay (Amy) Yocum of
Huntingdon, R. D. 3; Mrs. Philip (Jenny) Mark and Matthew Kauffman, both
of Huntingdon. R.R. 2, as well as by three grandchildren. One sister,
Mrs. Herbert (Sharon) Vernet, and two brothers, William Peters and
Andrew Peters, all of Huntingdon, survive. Mrs. Kauffman was a 1967
graduate of Kishacoquillas High School and was currently employed as a
pharmacy technician at Kopp Drug, Huntingdon. and worked part-time at
Kelly’s Korner, Huntingdon. She enjoyed reading and loved solving
crossword puzzles and cryptograms. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed
spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. A memorial
service will be held at 10:30 am. Wednesday, Oct. 17. at the Donald E.
Baggus Funeral Home, 3813W. Main St., Belleville, with Edward Yoder
officiating. Interment will be made at the convenience of the family. 

Gene A. LONG, 50, of Broad Top City, died Sunday, Oct. 14. 2001, in
Colorado, the result of an automobile accident Born March 17, 1951. in
Lewistown, he was the son of Clair and Florine Carberry Long, who
survive in Wideman, Ariz. He married Dorothy M Sincak, who survives, He
is survived by one daughter, Carol Morrison of Riddlesburg. and by four
grandchildren. Three sisters and two brothers also survive: Sarah King
of Montgomery, Ala.; Clara Kendrick of Cherokee Village, Ark.; Cynthia
Keifman of Six Mile Run; Owen Long of Broad Top City, RD.. and Martin
Long of McDonough, Ga. He was preceded in death by one sister, Orleha
Long. Mr. Long was a Vietnam veteran who served with the U.S Marines. He
held memherships in the American Leqion and the National Rifle
Association. He was a graduate of Council Rock High School and. during
his lifetime, was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was on his way to
Colorado for a hunting trip at the time of the accident. Funeral
services will he held at 2 p.m Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Curtis A. Heath
Funeral Home. Broad Top City, with Pastor Kathy Speck officiating.
Interment will he made in the Broad Top IOOF Cemetery, Broad Top City. 

Devin C. MARKEL, 9, of Grazierville, Tyrone. RD. 5, died Sunday, Oct.
14, 2001, following an automobile accident on old Route 220, near
Tipton. He was born Jan. 17, 1992, in Tyrone, the son of Ronald A. Jr.
and Verna (Rightnour) Markel. He is survived by his parents and two
brothers, Mat Markel of Tyrone and Josh Yingling at home. He is also
survived by his paternal grandparents, Ronald Sr. and Marjorie Markel;
his maternal grandmother. Patricia (Bilger) Hess of Huntingdon. and by
his maternal grandfather, Galen Rightnour of Huntingdon. Devin attended
Grazierville United Methodist Church, where he participated in the
children’s ministry. He was a member of Cub Scout Pack No. 320 and a
member of the Steelers Pee-Wee Football team, having played in the
championship game Oct. 13. He was a fourth grade student in Miss
Butler’s class at Tyrone Elementary School and enjoyed playing in his
cabin with his best friend, Andrew Teeters. Funeral services will be
held at 11 am. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Grazierville United Methodist
Church, with Pastor Jay Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the
Charlottesville Cemetery. 

Roger R. WENTZ, 37, of 172 Walls Road, Mount Union, died at 9:52 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Altoona Hospital of injuries sustained in an
automobile accident early Saturday evening near Newton Hamilton. Muffin
County. He was born Jan. 31. 1964, in New Brunswick, NJ, the son of
Donald R. and Dolly (Norris) Wentz, Hesston, R.R.1, who survive. He
married Rose M. Price July 11, 1992. at Silverford Heights, Mount Union.
He is survived by his wife at home and by one son, Roger Ryan Wentz of
Huntingdon. RD. 4. Two brothers and one sister also survive: Kirk D.
Wentz of Hesston; Tammy D. Cassarly of Leesburg, Va., and Dale R. Wentz
of Saxton. Mr. Wentz attended Jacob’s United Church of Christ on Piney
Ridge when he was younger. For the past year, he had been employed at
David Maines Associates, Lewistown, as a roofer. Prior to his most
recent employment, he worked 14 years as a foreman for Glenco
Contractors, Lewistown. He was a 1981 graduate of Huntingdon Area. High
School and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Funeral services will be held at
1:30 p.m, Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount
Union. with the Rev. Lloy Blattenberger officiating. Interment will be
made in the Jacob’s White Church Cemetery, Hesston. 

Richard B. "Dick" WHITE, 64, of Box 69, R.D. 1, Hesston, died at 5:51 am.
Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at Bon Secours Holy Family Hospital, Altoona,
following an extended illness. Born Sept. 26, 1937, in Hesston, he was
the son of the late W. Bruce and Eleanor (Barr) White. He married Alice
M. Beatty in 1990 in Virginia. She survives at their Penn Township home,
where Mr White had lived since 1966. He is survived by four
step-daughters: Mrs. David (Debra) Hoffman of Huntingdon; Mrs. Michael
(Brenda) Roll of Huntingdon; Mrs. Kevin (Sherry) Eichelberger of
Mapleton and Linda M. Beatty of Hesston, as well as by eight
step-grandchildren. Three brothers and one sister also survive: William
B. ‘White of Petersburg; Jay S. White of Huntingdon; D. Lee White of
Franktown, Colo., and Ruth A. Hair of Carlisle. Mr. White was of the
Protestant faith. He was self-employed in the lumber industry and
enjoyed the outdoors. He attended public schools in Huntingdon and was a
member of Huntingdon High School Class of 1955. Funeral services will be
held at the convenience of the family at the John B. Brown Funeral Home,
Inc., 417 Washington St. Huntjngdon, with Pastor Kenneth E. Patterson
officiating. Interment will be made in Old Stone Church Cemetery, Penn
Township, James Creek. 

Helen E. JONES, 93, of 601 13th St., Huntingdon, died Sunday, Oct. 14,
2001, at 4:05 p.m.. at her daughter’s residence, where she had resided
since May 1998. Born April 10, 1908, in Ft. Fairfield, Maine, she was
the daughter of the late Joseph and Edith (Ames) Emery. She married
James Henry Jones June 21, 1939, in East Rochester, N.Y. He preceded her
in death Nov. 3, 1980. Surviving are three daughters and a son: Mrs.
David E. (Reba) Bowen, Huntingdon; Mrs. J. Timothy (Mary-Esther)
Kauffman, Cambridge, Mass.; Mrs. William H. (Joanne) Gough, State
Island, N.Y.; and James Warren Jones, Groton. Mass. There are 13
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister,
Edith Russell of Newport, Maine. She was preceded in death by four
sisters: Elvira Mae Cogswell, Ruby Pelletier, Iris Russell and Norma
Garland, and three brothers, Carl Emery, Enoch Emery and Cecil Emery.
Mrs. Jones received a bachelor of arts degree in history from Eastern
Nazarene College in 1929. She was an ordained Nazarene minister and
missionary. She did extensive work in teaching the Gospel of Jesus in
Barbados, West Indies, Panama and various other places throughout the
United States. Although she retired in 1974, she continued her work as a
member of the Petersburg Church of the Nazarene for the past 17 years.
Mrs. Jones had been a resident of Petersburg for the past 17 years.
Prior to moving to Petersburg, she had resided in Dover, Del., Barbados,
West Indies, Panama and other locations where her missionary work took
her. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at the
Petersburg Church of the Nazarene, Route 305. Petersburg, with the Rev.
David Bowen, the Rev. Paul Bowen, the Rev. Tim Kauffman and the Rev.
David Sparks officiating. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Sharon
Hills Memorial Garden, Dover, Del. 

J. Ralph "Ras" ROYER, 88, of St. Leonard’s Home, Hollidaysburg, formerly
of Williamsburg, died Monday night, Oct. 15, 2001, at Bon Secours-Holy
Family Hospital, Altoona. Born Nov. 2, 1912, in Williamsburg, he was a
son of the late Charles Rhule and Bertha (Fay) Royer. He married Anna
Eamigh July 15, 1940, in Winchester, Va. She preceded him in death April
18, 1999. Surviving are a sister, Helen P. Isenberg of Hollidaysburg,
and a brother. Charles E. Royer, also of Williamsburg, and several
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard D.
Royer of Huntingdon, May 14, 1998. Mr. Royer was of the Lutheran faith.
He retired as an independent truck driver in 1978. Private graveside
services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Rose Hill
Cemetery, Altoona, with Pastor Elizabeth A. Hess officiating. Interment
will follow. 


William C. "Bill BARRICK, 68, of 100 Shaversville Circle, P.O. Box 21,
Newton Hamilton, died unexpectedly at approximately 9:30 a.m. Tuesday,
Oct. 16, 2001, at his home. Born Feb. 25, 1933, in Shindle, he was the
son of the late William D. and Anna (Huffnagle) Barrick. He was united
in marriage to Evelyn M. Shoemaker in 1953, in Port Smith, Ark. Mrs.
Barrick survives at home, along with the following children: Linda L.
Hicks, Mount Union; Susan A. Pecht, McVeyeytown; Kathy L. Craig and
Steven M. Barrick, both of Newton Hamilton; Michael C. Barrick, Granby.
Mass. Daniel L. Barrick. Newton Hamilton; and Debra K. Nead, Saltillo.
There are seven grandchildren. Also surviving are three siblings:
Isabelle Bare, Columbia; Betty Reitz, McClure; and Samuel H. Barrick.
Mountville. Mr. Barrick served with the U.S. Army during the Korean
Conflict. For a number of years, he was self-employed as an auto body
repairman and later retired from the Overhead Door Co., Lewistown. Mr.
Barrick was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed life to the fullest
and was most satisfied when he spent time with his family. A funeral
service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the Robert D. Heath
Funeral Home, Mount Union, with Pastor Charles Hicks officiating.
Interment will be made in the Mapleton IOOF Cemetery.

James Homer HAINES, 89, of Perry Village, New Bloomfield, formerly of
Huntingdon, died at 9:44 am, Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, in Perry Village.
Born Dec. 17, 1911, in Altoona, he was a son of the late William Blair
and Celeste (Goodman) Haines. He is survived by a number of nieces and
nephews. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was
preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters: Paul. Frank and
John Haines, Florence Taylor, Sara Mountain, Mary Norris, Ethel Tussey
and Dorothy Taylor. Mr. Haines attended the Ardenheim Brethren Church,
Huntingdon. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 21, at 3 p.m., at
the Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal. with the Rev. James H. Taylor
officiating. Interment will be made in the New Church Hill Cemetery,
Port Royal.

Andrew M. DIMOFF, 50, of 475 Mt. Hope Rd., McVeytown, died at
approximately 6:14 am. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Lincoln Highway East
in Hellam Township, York County, from injuries sustained in an
automobile accident. Born Oct. 13, 1951, in Mount Union, he was a son of
Kero Dimoff of Mt. Hope Road. McVeytown, and Viola C. (Mitchell) Dimoff
of Three Springs, R.D. 1. He was united in marriage to Doris J.
Harshbarger May 16,1975, in Three Springs. Mrs. Dimoff survives at home,
along with a son, Aaron M. Dimoff of Mount Union, R.R. 2. and a
grandson. One sister and a brother also survive: Donna L. Kauffman of
Duncannon and Peter D. Dimoff of Mt. Hope Road, McVeytown. Mr. Dimoff
graduated from Mount Union Area High School with the Class of 1970. He
was most recently employed by J.D. Eckman Construction in the York area.
Prior to that, he had worked for GA. & F.C. Wagman for 15 years. In the
past he had also worked for Harbison-Walker Refractories for 14 years

Mr. Dimoff was a member of the NRA and the Newton-Wayne Sportsmen
Association. He very much enjoyed hunting and fishing. Funeral services

Home, Mount Union, with Pastor Dayton Sines officiating. Interment will
be made in the Mount Union Cemetery.

Harold P. "Lefty" GARNER, 76, of 145 Willow Dr., Bellefonte, died
Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at his home. Born Dec. 23, 1924, in Huntingdon,
he was the son of the late Harry E. and Sarah Jane (Kyler) Garner. He
married the former Katybelle Barnett Sept. 1, 1950. She preceded him in
death July 19, 1994. Surviving are six daughters and one son: Helen
Brenneman, Port Matilda; Thelma Reed, Wingate; Marjorie Yearick,
Bellefonte; Jean Breon, Pleasant Gap; Catherine Garner and Carol
Deering, both of Runville; and Harold R. Garner, Runville. There are 13
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are eight
sisters and three brothers: Thelma Metz, Pine Grove Mills; Carrie
Catherine Justice and Anna Isenberg, both of Huntingdon; Dolly DeArmitt,
Alice Russler, Sylvia Jean Hamman and Betty Frye, all of Petersburg;
Ethel Lightner, State College; Walter Garner, Petersburg area; Herbert
Garner, Star Route, Huntingdon; and Ernest Garner, Machesney Park, Ill.
Mr. Garner was of the Protestant faith. He retired from Corning Asahi
and had worked on a number of farms. He enjoyed watching stock car
races. Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 22, at 11 am., at the
Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg, with the Rev. Wayne A. Shamer
officiating. Interment will be made in the Trough Creek Cemetery, Todd.

Ellen Hampton LIGHTCAP, 89, of Culvert Street, Rockhill Furnace, died at
8:30 am, Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at the home of her daughter and
son-in-law, Eleanor and Frank Schenner of Lockes Valley, Shade Gap. Born
April 4. 1912, in Warwick, Bucks County, she was a daughter of the late
Clinton and Mary (Smith) Worthington. She married Aaron Lightcap May 21,
1930. Mr. Lightcap preceded her in death in 1976. Surviving are a
daughter, Eleanor Schenner of Shade Gap, three grandchildren and one
great-grand-son. One son, Wilson Lightcap, and one daughter, Patricia
Lightcap, are deceased. One sister, Ruth Weikel of East Greenville,
survives. She was preceded in death by one sister. Mrs. Lightcap was of
the Lutheran faith and was a homemaker. Funeral services will be held
at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home,
Orbisonia, with the Rev. David Ford officiating. Interment will be made
in the Nockamixon Union Cemetery, Bucks County.

Donna Jane FLASHER, 63, of HCR 60, Orbisonia, died at 6:28 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at the Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. Born
Jan. 16, 1938, in Shade Gap, she was the daughter of the late William
Ralph and Annabelle (Snyder) Snyder. She married Wesley A. Flasher Dec.
25, 1953. Mr. Flasher survives at home, along with two daughters and one
son: Sally Jo Ritter, San Francisco, Calif.; Arthur W. Flasher,
Manassas, Va.; and Lori A. Butman, Dumfries, Va. There are three
grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers: Gene S. Snyder of Shade
Gap and Benjamin Panella of Huntingdon. One brother, Herbert W. Snyder,
is deceased. Mrs. Flasher was a member of the Valley Point Church of the
Brethren, HCR 60, Orbisonia. She was primarily a homemaker and worked as
a house director at Beacon Lodge Camp for the Blind in Newton Hamilton.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family
with the Rev. George Yocum officiating. Interment will be made in the
Shope Cemetery, HCR 60, Orbisonia.

Fae L. RICE, 73. of HCR 62, Shade Gap, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at
J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Oct. 30, 1927, in Mount
Union, she was a daughter of the late George L. and Edna G. (Shope)
Snyder. She was first married to Robert Pyles, who preceded her in death
April 9, 1984. She later married Melvin Rice, who survives at home.
Also surviving are the following children: Robert D. Pyles Jr. and
George H. Pyles, both of Neelyton; Joel E. Pyles. Chambersburg: Phillip
L. Pyles, Edenville; and David A. "Chip" Pyles, Shade Gap. Three
stepchildren survive: Sharon Foster, Chambersburg; Serena Gibbons,
Spring Run; and Sherwin Rice, Burnt Cabins. There are ten
grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one
step-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by three daughters,
triplets, who died in infancy, and one grandson. Two brothers and two
sisters are also deceased. Mrs. Rice was a member of the Shade Gap
Presbyterian Church, the Shade Gap Golden Agers, Shade Gap Senior
Citizens, Shade Gap Volunteer Fire Company and was a life member of the
Ladies Auxiliary of the Shade Gap Volunteer Fire Company. During her
life, she was primarily a homemaker and later worked for eight and
one-half years as a driver for Area Agency on Aging. Funeral services
will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the Martin R. Brown
Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with the Rev. Alice Meloy officiating.
Interment will be made in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Neelyton.

Phyllis J. Williams-WARNER, 48, of Huntingdon, died Friday, Oct. 19,
2001, at 2:57 p.m. at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital. Huntingdon. Born
Dec. 18, 1952, in Bedford, she was a daughter of the late Roderick
"Jack" Williams and Ruth Williams, who survives in Defiance. She married
Paul Warner May 28, 1982. Mr. Warner survives at home, along with five
children: Steven Williams and Edgar Williams. both of Huntingdon,
Rebecca Williams of James Creek; Paula Warner of Huntingdon and Mella
Warner of Huntingdon. There are three grandchildren. Also surviving are
the following brothers and sisters: Richard Rhoat, Ephrata; Michael
Aller, Riddlesburg; Daniel Aller, Red Lion; John Williams and James
Aller, both of Six Mile Run; Jonathan Williams, Buffalo Mills; Marie
Aller, Riddlesburg; Fay Jones, Dudley; and Kay Williams, Denver. A 1972
graduate of Tussey Mountain High School, she was primarily a homemaker.
She had resided at her Huntingdon residence since 1987, after moving
from New York. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Oct.
24, at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, Smithfield, Huntingdon. with the
Rev. James L. Blair officiating. Interment will be private.

Lester R. GEARHART, 86, of 36 E. Milford St., Mount Union, died at 11
am. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at his home, following an extended illness.
Born Aug. 9, 1915. in Newton Hamilton, he was a son of the late William
and Blanche (Clemens) Gearhart. He married Mary (Weko) Harris June 18,
1972, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Mount Union, with the Rev. Paul Jones
officiating. Mrs. Gearhart survives at home, along with four children:
Loretta Rauch of Casa Grande, Ariz.: Darryl Gearhart. David Gearhart and
Rose Vaughan. all of McVeytown. Also surviving are three stepchildren:
Rita Wagner of Mount Union; Nancy Wagner of Belleville and Penny
Thompson of Huntingdon. There are 12 grandchildren, 11
step-grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 29
step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons and a
stepdaughter: Cloyd Gearhart, Larry Gearhart and Tina Harris, two
grandsons and one step-granddaughter. His twin brother, Leslie Gearhart
of McVeytown. survives. Ten brothers and sisters are deceased. Mr.
Gearhart was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in
Mount Union, where he served as Sunday School superintendent, treasurer,
church elder and taught the men’s Bible class. He was self-employed as a
dairy farmer and also for a number of years he worked as a commercial
fertilizer salesman for Cramers of York. For 25 years, he drove a school
bus in the Mount Union School District for Royer Smith. Funeral services
will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the Christian and
Missionary Alliance Church, Mount Union, with the Rev. Stephen Motter
and the Rev. William Wollett officiating. Interment will be made in the
Atkinsons Mills Cemetery, McVeytown, RD. 

Joseph L. McCRACKEN Sr., 64, of RD. 2, Box 372, Huntingdon, died
Saturday Oct. 20, 2001, at 10:14 at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital,
Huntingdon. Born Jan. 26, 1937, in Spruce Creek, he was a son of the
late Clarence and	Lois (Lowe) McCracken. He married Edna "Pennv"
Miller Aug. 17, 1957, at the home of the bride’s parents in Huntingdon,
with the Rev. Reed Rogers officiating. Surviving, along with his wife at
home, are four children: Joseph L. McCracken Jr., Huntingdon. RD. 2;
Beth A. Mogyorossy, Coalmont; Jennifer J. McCracken, Reading; and Shawn
D. McCracken, Huntingdon, RD. 2. There are five grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren Also surviving are two sisters: Doris Daugherty and
Pat Hearn, both of Huntingdon, RD. 2. Mr. McCracken was a member of the
Donation United Methodist Church. A 1956 graduate of Huntingdon High
School, he was employed by C.H. Miller Hardware Company of Huntingdon as
a driver for 45 years. He was a charter member of the Oneida Township
Fire Company and enjoyed collecting John Deere model tractors, as well
as model trains and tractor-trailers. Funeral services will be held
Wednesday. Oct. 24, at 1 p.m., at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home,
Huntingdon, with the Rev. David L. Dearing officiating. Interment will
be made in the Donation Cemetery, Huntingdon, RD. 2. 

Mary Lou HOUCK, 60, of 716 Portland Ave., Huntingdon, died Sunday, Oct.
21, 2001, at 11:15 a.m.. at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon.
Born Aug. 21, 1941, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late Harry
and Grace (Bortell) Biemesderfer. She married George H. Houck, who
survives at home. Also surviving are two children, Bradley W. Houck of
Huntingdon and Tammy L. Prete of Mechanicsburg, and two grandsons. One
brother, James Biemesderfer of Huntingdon, survives. She was preceded in
death by three brothers: Harry, Horace and Ronald. Mrs. Houck was a
member of the Ardenheim Independent Brethren Church, Huntingdon. R.D. 3.
A 1959 graduate of Huntingdon High School, she was employed by Elco
Corp. in Huntingdon for 29 years. Mrs. Houck enjoyed crocheting. Funeral
services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 1 p.m., at the Robert E.
Peters Funeral Home. Huntingdon, with the Rev. James Grove, the Rev.
George "Buddy" Baird, the Rev. James L. Blair and the Rev. Myers Kimmel

Edgar RayWILSON, 52, of Coalmont, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at 8:30
p.m., at his home. His death was unexpected. Born Nov. 7, 1948, in
Joller, he was a son of the late Edgar A. and Eleanor (Linn) Wilson. He
is survived by a son, Dakota Wilson of Cassville, and three siblings:
Kathleen Berzansky, Wood; Carl L. Wilson. Three Springs; and Lanny
Wilson, Broad Top. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death:
William and Lester Wilson and Beverly Wilson. Mr. Wilson was of the
Protestant faith. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 until 1972 as a
specialist 5. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam and in Germany as
a combat engineer with the Americal Division. He received the Good
Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and
Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was an expert on M14 and M16 rifles. Mr.
Wilson was a member of the Saxton VFW Post No. 4129 and the Broad Top
American Legion Post No. 126. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and
was a self-employed brick mason for 30 years. Funeral services will be
held Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m., at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel,
Saxton, with Pastor Donald Simmons officiating. Interment will be made
in the Ft. Littleton Cemetery, with full military honors.

Harry W. "Will" McCARTNEY, 81, of RD. 2, Box 322, Mount Union, died at
5:55 am, Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital,
Huntingdon, following a brief illness. Born Dec. 5, 1919, in Shirley
Township, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Robert W. and
Grace (Showalter) McCartney. He married Martha T. Brenneman March 10,
1937. Mrs. McCartney survives at home, along with the following
children: Carl McCartney, Martinsburg, W.Va.; Mary Kauffman, Lewistown;
Nancy D. Knable, Newton Hamilton; Ronald McCartney, Shirleysburg. RD.
1; Donald McCartney, Mount Union. R.D. 2; Jack McCartney, Three
Springs. RD.; Connie Forshey, Shirleysburg. R.D. 1; Danny McCartney,
Mill Creek; Helen Heffner, Huntingdon; and Susan Martin, McVeytown.
There are 49 grandchildren, 106 great-grandchildren and 14
great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two children:
Robert McCartney and Wilber "Wimp" McCartney. Also surviving are two
sisters: Grace Williams and Emma Jordan, both of Mount Union. R.D. 2.
The following brothers and sisters preceded him in death: Robert
McCartney, Charles McCartnev, Chalmer McCartney, George McCartney,
Jesse McCartney, Ann Swanger, Bertha Kelly, Marieita Hann and Jenny
Beaston. Mr. McCartney was of the Protestant faith. He retired in 1982
from Harbison-Walker Refractories, after 35 years of service. He also
worked at the Shirleysburg Garage for four years. He enjoyed gardening
and raising horses when his health permitted. During World War II, Mr.
McCartney served in the U.S. Army. Funeral services will be held at 11
am, Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union,
with the Rev. Jeff Winstead officiating. Interment will be made in the
Mount Union Cemetery.

Warren P. RAMSEY, 73, of 903 Mifflin St., Huntingdon, died Tuesday,
Oct. 23, 2001, at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey. Born
July 23, 1928, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Warren P Ramsey
and Nelda (Varner) Ramsey Gagermeier. He was reared by his mother and
stepfather, Joseph Gagermeier. He married Mary C. Hale Aug. 30, 1959, at
the Presbyterian Church in Huntingdon, with the Rev. Powell
officiating. Mrs. Ramsey survives at home, along with three sons: Warren
Paul Ramsey Jr., Elizabethtown; Kevin Michael Ramsey, Gaithersburg. Md.;
and Todd Hale Ramsey, Huntingdon. There are five grandchildren. Also
surviving are two step-sisters and a step-brother: Charlotte Veregge of
Radiant, VA.; Jean Lamberson, Mapleton; and Max Gagermeier,
Alexandria, VA. Mr. Ramsey was a member of the Huntingdon Presbyterian
Church. A graduate of Huntingdon High School with the Class of 1946, he
also attended the Huntingdon Business School. For 35 years, he was
employed by the A&P Grocery Store in Huntingdon and later by Groves
Office Supply, retiring in 1998. He was a life member of the Huntingdon
Hook and Ladder Fire Company, Pennsylvania Fire Police and Standing
Stone Post No. 1754. VFW. He also bowled with the Wednesday night
leagues at the Holiday Howl, Huntingdon. He was an avid Lionel model
railroader. During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army with
the rank of private first class, stationed in Germany with Patton’s
Second Armored Division Band. Funeral services will be held Friday,
Oct. 26, at 2 p.m., at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon,
with the Rev. Leslie R. F. Papp officiating. Interment will be made in
the Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Huntingdon, RD. 1. 

Robert RICKABAUGH Sr., 73, of 20 East St., Robertsdale, died Tuesday,
Oct. 23, 2001, at 11:10 p.m., at BonSecours Holy Family Hospital,
Altoona. following an extended illness. Born May 21, 1928, in Dudley,
he was a son of the late Kelly and Agnes (Jones) Smith. He married
Evelyn Kelly March 17, 1957, in Winchester, Va. Mrs. Rickabaugh survives
at home, along with the following children: Jerry Smith, Cooks; Bill
Rickabaugh, Altoona; Peggy Didyk, Cassville; Debbie Lemin,
Chambersburg; Mary Sipes. Six Mile Run; Kelly Ody, East Freedom; Bobby
Rickabaugh, Robertsdale; Patty Nunley, Ebensburg; Freddie Rickabaugh and
Shawn Rickabaugh, both of Robertsdale. There are a number of
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three
brothers: Veryl Smith and Richard Rickabaugh, both of Robertsdale and
Jimmy Rickabaugh of Coalmont. Mr. Rickabaugh was a member of the
Robertsdale Church of God. He retired in 1966 from construction work
after 20 years of employment at various construction projects. He
enjoyed gardening and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Funeral services
will be private at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements
are under the direction of the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton.

Jane M. GLENNY, 73, of RD 1, Box 976, West Township, Petersburg, died
Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at 4:18 am. at Centre Community Hospital,
State College. Born Jan. 30, 1928, in Williamsburg, she was a daughter
of the late W. Carl and Janet (Mitchell) McManus. She married Robert D.
Glenny Sept. 26, 1947, at Manor Hill United Methodist Church, with the
Rev. Paul E. Myers officiating. Mr. Glenny preceded her in death Sept.
8, 1977. Surviving are four sons: Jon Robert Glenny, Nashville, Tenn.;
Jeffrey C. Glenny, Petersburg; Douglas R. Glenny, Huntingdon. R.D. 2;
and Steven G. Glenny, Petersburg. There are five grandchildren. Also
surviving are two sisters: Pauline Champion of Lock Haven and Mrs. Dean
A. (Carol) Isett, Petersburg. She was preceded in death by a brother,
Guy McManus, and a sister, Elizabeth Fitzgerald. Mrs. Glenny was a
member of the Manor Hill United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She
had served as trustee, communion steward and Sunday School
superintendent, and was a member of the Do For Others Sunday School
Class. A 1946 graduate of the Petersburg Vocational High School, she
retired in 2000 from the Huntingdon County Library, after many years of
employment. Mrs. Glenny was a member of the Juniata Valley Senior
Citizens Center, Shavers Creek Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary and
served as West Township auditor. She was an avid fan and supporter of
the Juniata Valley football program and was a member of the Juniata
Valley Football Mothers. She had also been a Cub Scout den mother. She
enjoyed crocheting and was a member of the "Birthday Club." Mrs. Glenny
was a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County and had lived at her West
Township home for the past 46 years. Funeral services will be held at 2
p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at the Manor Hill United Methodist Church,
Huntingdon, R.D. 2, with Pastor Joleen Willis officiating. Interment
will be made in the Mooresville Cemetery, West township, Petersburg RD. 

Ruth Adeline (Widener) HENRY ,92, formerly of Hesston. RD., died at 9:45
am. Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon, where she
had resided since Sept. 27. Born Sept. 11, 1909, in Lincoln Township,
she was the daughter of George and Martha Bell (Shoup) Widener. She
married James B. Henry Oct. 31.1927, in Hagerstown, Md. He preceded her
in death June 10, 1958, Mrs. Henry is survived by the following
children: Martha Gill and Grace Hoover, both of Huntingdon; Richard
Henry, Mount Union; Donald Henry and William Henry, both of Honeybrook.
Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. A
brother, Ralph Widener of Carlisle, also survives. She was preceded in
death by three sisters. Florence, Grace and Annie. and by two brothers,
George and Paul. Mrs. Henry was of the Protestant faith. During her life
she worked primarily as a homemaker. At one time she worked as a
domestic in the Huntingdon area. Funeral services will be held Monday,
Oct. 29, at 2 p.m., at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home in Huntingdon
with the Rev. James L. Blair officiating. Interment will he made in
Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Huntingdon, RD. 1.

Constance A. "Connie" SMITH, 64, of 10 Smith Lane, McVeytown, died at
p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at the William Penn Nursing Center in
Lewistown, where she had been a patient since April. She died following
an extended illness. Born Oct. 13, 1937 in Wayne Township, Mifflin
County, she was the daughter of Anna (Wilson) Booher of Mount Union, RD.
1, and the late Elmer Booher She married Gerald R. Smith on Feb. 9,
1957. He died March 11, 1969. Surviving along with her another are the
following children: Pam Wagncr, Luann Gray and Paul Smith, all of
McVeytown. R.D.1. Four grandchildren also survive alone with a brother,
Wilber Booher, and a sister, Vonnie Orlowski, both of Mount Union, R.D. 
1 Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Smith, who died at
birth, and by an infant son, Cam Smith. Two brothers, Emmitt Booher and
Sam Booher also preceded her in death. Mrs. Smith, a homemaker, was of
the protestant faith. She graduated from Captain Jack High School in
1956. She enjoyed making crafts. Funeral services will be held at 11 am,
Monday, Oct. 29, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union.
Officiating will be the Rev. Marlin Spickler. Interment will he made at
Bowman’s Chapel Cemetery. Mapleton, R.D.l. 

Kie R. BROWN, 61, of 1893 Bethel Hollow Rd., New Paris, died Thursday,
Oct. 25, 2001, at 3:50 p.m., at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital. Johnstown,
following a brief illness. Born Aug. 28, 1940, in Saxton. he was a son
of the late victor and Sara (Merringer) Brown. He is survived by his
former wife, Velma Brown of Hubbard. Ohio. One son, Kie R. Brown Jr. of
Norfolk, Va., survives, along with three grandchildren. A daughter,
Michelle Brown, preceded him in death in 1988. Two brothers and three
sisters survive: Carson Brown, Lock Haven; Ray Brown, Roswell. Ga.; Mae
Cross. Bedford, RD.; Susan Brown, Strasburg, Va.; and Frances Brown,
Moon, Va. Mr. Brown was a member of the Chestnut Ridge Independent
Fellowship Church. He retired as a truck driver after several years of
service at the Federal Wholesale Trucking Co. in Hubbard, Ohio. He was
an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed carpentry and woodworking.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 29, at 10 a.m., at the D.
Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with the Rev. Charles F. Rhodes
officiating. Interment will be made in the Yellow Creek Reformed
Cemetery, Hopewell, RD.

Harry D. WILSON, 77, formerly of Hustontown and more recently a resident
of Edwards Estates at Ridgewood, Shade Gap, RD., died Thursday, Oct. 25,
2001, at Harrisburg hospital. Born Dec. 23, 1923, in Taylor Township,
Fulton County, he was a son of the late Harry and Sarah (Brown) Wilson.
Mr. Wilson is survived by the followng brothers and sisters: Roy
Wilson, Manor Care Nursing Home, Chambersburg; Mae Cutchall, Three
Springs; Zelpha Wilson, Hustontown; and Ephraim Wilson, Hustontown.
Two brothers, George and Rufus, preceded him in death, as did six
sisters: Edith Ramsey, Margaret Fleck, Frances Long, Esther Wible,
Grace Etter and Hilda Wilson. He is also survived by a number of
nieces and nephews. Mr. Wilson was a veteran of the Korean conflict,

Joyce E. "Tinkle" VARNER, 55, of 10 Smokehouse Lane, Lewistown, died at
12:20 pm. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001. in the Lewistown Hospital. Born
April 15, 1946, in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Ray G.
Varner Sr. and the late June A. Mickey Johnson. She was also the
step-daughter of the late Charles W. Johnson. She is survived by one
brother, Dennis F. Varner, address unknown. Three sisters also survive.
They are: Linda R. Sprenkle, Three Springs; Karen H. Myers. Interior,
S.D.; and Jacqueline L. Hosfelt, Newburg. A number of nieces and nephews
also survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers. She had worked
for the former Industries Unlimited of Shippensburg. Funeral services
will he conducted Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 8 p.m., in the
Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. William
D. Holtry will officiate. Interment will he made at the convenience of
the family in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg. 

Kenneth G. SWINDELL, 64, of 5233 Raystown Rd., Hopewell, died Friday,
Oct. 26, 2001, at 9:30 am., at UPMC Lee Regional Hospital, Johnstown.
His death was unexpected. Born July 5, 1937, in Six Mile Run, he was a
son of the late Clarence Jacob and Ciddie Myrtle (Snyder) Swindell. He
married Doris Heeter March 4, 1958, in Clear Spring. Md. Mrs. Swindell
survives at home, along with three sons: Tim Swindell, Imler; Rodney
Swindell, Hopewell, R.D.; and Ken Swindell, Kingston. Ill. There are six
grandchildren. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters:
David Swindell, Roaring Spring; Veda Isenberg, Saxton; Joe Swindell,
Hopewell. RD.; Bruce Swindell, Kirtland. Ohio; Donald Swindell.
Chesterland, Ohio; Elmer Swindell, Imler; Mrs. Nick (Lucille) Mykut,
Wood; Mrs. Harvey (Vickie) Swisher, Hopewell, RD. He was preceded in
death by two brothers, William and Bernard. Mr. Swindell attended the
Hopewell Grace Brethren Church. For 11 years, he worked the Willoughby,
Ohio, plant of Kennametal and retired in January 2000, after 31 years of
service as machine operator and inspector from the Bedford plant.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 10 a.m., at the
Hopewell Grace Brethren Church, with Pastor Melvin VanOrman
officiating. Interment will be made in the Langdondale Cemetery,
Hopewell, RD.

Kathleen B. GIBBONEY, 74, of RD. 3, Box 359, Huntingdon, died Saturday,
Oct. 27, 2001, at 4:46 p.m., at The Oaks at Westminster Woods,
Huntingdon, following an extended illness. Born Sept. 15, 1927, in
Oneida Township, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Miles
Ray Blair and Beatrice (Carey) Isenberg. She married Paul L. Gibboney at
Cornpropst Mills Jan. 1, 1947, with the Rev. Paul Myers officiating. Mr.
Gibboney survives at home, along with four sons and three daughters:
Paul B. Gibboney and Susan Putt, both of Huntingdon; Kathleen Gibboney,
Denver, Col; Joel "Chip" Gibboney, Huntingdon; Michael Gibboney of
Minot, ND.; Daniel Gibboney of East Stroudsburg; and Tamara Speck,
Huntingdon. There are six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is a sister, Terry Sidwell of Houston, Texas. Mrs.
Gibboney was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church,
Huntingdon, where she played the piano for many years. A 1945 graduate
of Huntingdon High School, she was employed as a bus driver for many
years in the Huntingdon area. She also volunteered for many years and
was on the board of directors of Meals on Wheels in Huntingdon. She
enjoyed reading, traveling, sewing, crocheting and spending time with
her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held
at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home.

Interment will be made in the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery,
Huntingdon, RD. 3.

Irene D. GROVE, 94, formerly of Orbisonia and Mount Union, died at 3:35
am. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at the Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia.
Born June 26, 1907. in Shirley Township, Huntingdon County, she was a
daughter of the late Donald and Ella (Wasson) Peterson. She was married
to Clarence D. Grove, who preceded her in death Nov. 14, 1968. Surviving
are a daughter, Joyce J. Miller of Gainesville, Ga., four grandsons,
five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Two sons,
Radford Lee and Wayne Clarence, preceded her in death. Four siblings
survive: Verna Fogal, Shirleysburg. RD.; Alma Hollibaugh, Rockhill
Furnace; Irma Ancona, Maryland; and Jacob K. Peterson, State College.
One infant brother, John, is deceased. Mrs. Grove was a member of the
Orbisonia United Methodist Church and the Mount Union Chapter of the
Order of the Eastern Star. She retired from L. Greif Brothers
Manufacturing in Mount Union. In her earlier years, she was a school
teacher. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at
the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with the Rev. Rick
Eminheizer officiating. Interment will be made in the Germany Valley
Cemetery, Shirleysburg, RD. 

Betty (Meshyock) FISHER, 73, of 416 N Clinton St., Baltimore, Md., died
Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, in Baltimore. Born July 4, 1928, in Six Mile
Run, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Julia Meshyock. She
married Merle Fisher, who survives at home. Also surviving are two
daughters, Margaret and Patricia, both of Baltimore. Md.; three
grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One stepson, Merle Fisher Jr. of
Virginia, survives. Mrs Fisher is also survived by several siblings:
Margaret Cooper, James Creek; Edward Meshyock, Alexandria; Joseph
Meshyock, McVevtown; Paul Meshyock, Thompsontown: Vernon Meshyock,
Kistler, Mount Union; and Don Meshyock, Louisiana. Three siblings
preceded her in death: Andrew Meshyock, Kenneth Meshyock and Doris Swan.
Mrs. Fisher was primarily a homemaker. Funeral services will be held
Thursday, Nov. 1. in Baltimore, Md.

Timothy James MUSSER, 44, of PO Box 181, Broad Top, died unexpectedly
Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at the Presbyterian Medical Center, Pittsburgh.
Born Feb. 10, 1957, in Washington, D.C., he was a son of James P. and
Dona C. (Carberry) Musser, who survive in Broad Top. Also surviving are
two brothers and a sister: Christopher Mark Musser, Dudley; Kevin
Matthew Musser, Lothian, Md.; and Tricia Dawn Lilly, Dinwiddie, Va. A
number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Mr. Musser was a
member of the Robertsdale Church of God. He worked as a salesman and was
highly skilled on the computer. Funeral services will be held
Saturday, Nov. 3, at 11 am., at the Robertsdale Church of God, with
Pastor Donald Simmons officiating. Interment will be made in the IOOF
Cemetery, Broad Top.

The Rev. Reed L. ROGERS, 95, of 311 Superior St., Grove City, formerly
of Harrisville, died at Orchard Manor in Grove City Wednesday, Oct. 31,
2001, at 4:40 p.m., following a brief illness Born June 29, 1906, in
Greenfield Township, Erie County, he was a son of the late Earl J. and
Florence (Raymond) Rogers. He was first married to Maude Sugden Feb. 3,
1924. She preceded him in death April 9, 1971. His second marriage was
to Erma Jean Rosner Roxberry May 13, 1972. Mrs. Rogers survives at home,
along with three children: Mrs. David (Carol) Benner, Thousand Oaks,
Calif.; Mark 0. Rogers, McMurray; and the Rev. Neal K. Rogers,
Washington. One stepson, Donald Gale Roxberry of Lexington, Ky.,
survives. There are seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Rogers served as pastor of Christian and Missionary Alliance
churches for over 55 years in Erie, Punxsutawney, Huntingdon,
Pittsburgh, Sharon and Grove City. He was also affiliated with churches
in Harrisville, Baltimore, Md., Tionesta and Murraysville. He was
previously employed by Meridan in Butler County and by West Unity. He
was a graduate of Greenfield Township High School in Erie County, Erie
Gospel Tabernacle and conducted studies at Nyack College in Nyack, N.Y.
Funeral services will beheld Saturday. Nov. 3, at 11 a.m.,, at the
Grove City Alliance Church, Grove City, with the Rev. Richard
LaFountain officiating. Interment will be made in the Lowville
Cemetery, Erie County.
