B. Jane WHITE, 85, of 112 West 12th St., Tyrone, died at 8:10 a.m.
Saturday, July 1, 2000, at the Tyrone Hospital. Born Aug. 5, 1914, in
Altoona, she was a daughter of the late Levi and Josephine (Hummel)
Porte. She was united in marriage to King Walter White April 17, 1940.
He preceded her in death Feb. 4, 1995. Surviving are three daughters and
three sons: Patricia L. Walters, Tyrone; Marjorie I. White, Ambridge;
Sharon K. Duda, Milford, Conn.; Gary L. White, Gregory K. White and
Jeffrey L. White, all of Tyrone. Three step-children also survive:
Robert J. White, Florida; Anna L. Umholtz, Indiana; and Dorothy E.
Varollo, Brook, Ind. There are 27 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren
and 20 great-great-grandchildren. One sister, Margaret Griffin of
Huntingdon, survives. Mrs. White was preceded in death by an infant
daughter, Susan; a brother, Clarence; a sister, Mary; and three
grandchildren. She was a member of the Tyrone Christ United Methodist
Church. She was a foster grandparent, caring for many special needs
children in the Altoona area; a senior companion for Blair Senior
Services from 1970 until 1996; and a volunteer at Epworth Manor, Tyrone,
for many years. She enjoyed traveling, her grandchildren, WWF
Professional Wrestling and her dog, Pudge. Mrs. White worked at the
Tyrone Hospital snack bar during the 1950s and 1960s. Years ago, she had
been employed as a ticket lady at the Wilson and ElPatio theaters in
Tyrone and as a waitress at Fifty Pipers restaurant in Tyrone. Funeral
services will be held Wednesday, July 5, at 11 a.m., at the Derman
Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone, with the Rev. Dr. Dennis N. Reedy
officiating. Interment will follow at Blair Memorial Park, Antis
Township. Friends will be received today from 2 until 4 p.m. and from 7
until 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.

Mary L. (Buckley) COULTER, 74, of Dillsburg, died Sunday, July 2, 2000,
at her home. Surviving are her husband, Carl R. Coulter of Dillsburg,
and one daughter, Sharon K. Miller of Dillsburg. There are two
grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters: David
Buckley and Robert Buckley Sr., both of Harrisburg; Pat Glennon,
Delaware; and Virginia Suter, Harrisburg. There are two grandchildren
surviving. One son, Larry Robert Coulter, preceded her in death. Mrs.
Coulter was a former employee of Beers Restaurant, Mount Union. She
attended Chambers Hills United Methodist Church, where she assisted with
the Easter egg making. She also attended the Chestnut Grove United
Methodist Church, Dillsburg, and was a former member of the Colonial
Park Bowling League. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday,
July 6, at the Chambers Hills United Methodist Church. Interment will be
made in the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. There will be no viewing. Funeral

Edna V. RUTHERFORD, 92, of 74 Star Route 655, Mill Creek, where she had
resided with her daughter, Jane Kanagy, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at 2
p.m., in Lewistown. She had been ill for the past year. Born April 10,
1908, in Timberville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Sausman. She married Milton A. Rutherford Aug. 19, 1925. He preceded her
in death July 11, 1990. Surviving are two children, Robert Rutherford of
Downington and Mrs. Jacob (Jane) Kanagy of Star Route 655, Mill Creek,
and two foster daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Lois) Allison of Alexandria and
Mrs. Ray (Frances) Hartzler, Yeagertown. There are 14 grandchildren,
nine great-grandchildren and four great- great-grandhildren. One son and
a grandson preceded her in death. Mrs. Rutherford was the last surviving
member of her immediate family. She was a member of the Emmanuel Bible
Church, Huntingdon, R.D., where she was a Sunday School teacher for many
years. She taught elementary school for a number of years and was
primarily a homemaker. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 7, at
10:30 a.m., at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the
Rev. Greg Harven officiating. Interment will be made in the Mountainview
Cemetery, Mill Creek. Friends will be received at the funeral home
Thursday, July 6, from 7 until 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until the
hour of the service.
Hayden G. RUNK, 86, of Ferguson Valley Road, McVeytown, died at 6:25
p.m. Monday, July 3, 2000, at Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, Lewistown.
Born Oct. 1, 1913, in Clay Township, Huntingdon County, he was a son of
the late David W. and Naomi (Newman) Runk. He married Lillian M. Stine
Oct. 22, 1938. She survives at home. Also surviving are a son and a
daughter: David S. Runk of Lewistown and Elaine S. Richards of Cranford,
N.J. There are five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Five
brothers survive: Kenneth W. Runk, Elkhorn, Wis.; Wayne E. Runk and
Sheldon D. Runk, both of MeVeytown; Max L. Runk, Punxsutawney; and Boyd
W. Runk, Mount Union. One brother and four sisters preceded him in
death. Mr. Runk was a self-employed farmer, retiring in 1975, after
operating the Valley View Farm in Ferguson Valley for 35 years. He was a
member of the Spring Run Church of the Brethren, where he served as a
deacon and was a member of the Men's Bible Sunday School Class. He was
also a member of the former Interstate Milk Producers Association. He
enjoyed gardening. Interment will be made at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, at
Spring Run Cemetery, McVeytown, followed by a memorial service at 11
a.m., at the Spring Run Church of the Brethren. The Rev.. Jerry Lee
Miller will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9
p.m. Wednesday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St.,

Robert G. WASON, 76, of Center Ave., Trappe, Montgomery County, died
Saturday, July 2, 2000, at Lankeneau Hospital, Lower Merion Township,
Montgomery County. Born Jan. 4, 1924, in Philadelphia, he was a son of
the late Robert 0. Wason Sr. and Margaret M. (Duffy) Wason Papay. His
wife, the former Violet L. Schaefer, survives at home, along with a son
and two daughters: Harvey Wason, Punta Gorda, Fla.; Katherine Patterson,
Jackson Township,. Huntingdon, R.D. 2, and Shirley Epps, Trappe. There
are five grandchildren. Mr. Wason was a graduate of Olney High School
and Drexel University. During World War II, he served as a corporal in
the U.S. Army with Battery C, 221st Field Artillery Battalion, Americal
Division, in the Asia-Pacific Theatre of War. During the 1960s, he was
employed by Elco Corp., Huntingdon. A former resident of Monroe, Conn,
he retired in 1991 as supervising engineer in the plastics department of
Framatone, Inc., in Norwalk,Conn., after 20 years of service. During his
retirement, he worked part-time as a courier. for Epps Advertising,
Trappe. He was a member of Trinity Reformed Church, United Church of
Christ, Collegeville, Montgomery County, where he was a former interim
choir director. He was also a former member of Huntington, Conn., United
Methodist Church. While in Huntingdon, he was a member of the First
United Methodist Church and its Chancel Choir, Huntingdon. He was also
vice president, newsletter editor and past president of the
Collegeville, Trappe Chapter of the American Association of Retired
Persons; was life member of Kline-Styer-McCann Post No. 7155, VFW,
Trappe; and the American Division Veterans Association. Funeral services
will be held this evening at 7 p.m. at Trinity Reformed C-hurch, UCC,
Collegeville, with the Rev. Dr. Martha B. Kriebel officiating. Interment
will be made in the Oakland Cemetery, Philadelphia. A viewing will be
held from 6 until 6:45 p.m. at the church.
Margaret Earline STEWART, 74, of Huntingdon, R.D. 2, died Monday, July
3, 2000, at her home. Born Dec. 8, 1925, in Alliance, Ohio, she was a
daughter of the late Russell and Edith (Smith) Kline. She was united in
marriage to George Templeton Stewart, who preceded her in death June 11,
1992. Surviving are two daughters and two sons: Linda Jane Moist, Anna
Kathryn Porter, Robert Lynn Stewart and James Lloyd McKivison III, all,
of the Huntingdon area. There are nine grandchildren, two step-
grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Five siblings also survive:
Edith Bilger, State College; Alice Kline, Julian; Robert Kline, Carl
Kline and Calvin Kline, all of State College. Mrs. Stewart was employed
as a clerk at the bakery of Giant Food Store, State College. She was
formerly employed by Josten's. She was a member of the Manor Hill United
Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 6, at 11
a.m., at the Koch Funeral Home, State College, with Pastor Dan Morris
officiating. Interment will be made in the Manor Hill Cemetery, Manor

Matthew G. SWARTZ, 89, a resident of Presbyterian Senior Care, Oakmont,
died July 4,2000, in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born June 13, 1911,
in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Joseph and Lena Swartz. He was
united in marriage to Ann Weinberg Aug. 18, 1940, in Pittsburgh. She
preceded him in death May 4, 1992. Surviving are the following children:
Joel Swartz, Ocean City, Md., Cathy Schmitt, Oakmont; and Rick Swartz,
Huntingdon. There are four grandchildren and a number of nieces and
nephews. Mr. Swartz was educated in the McKeesport Area schools. A
veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Intrepid.
He had resided in Huntingdon from 1949 until 1976, when he retired to
Hallandale, Fla. While in Huntingdon, he operated the Arcade Grill and
Matt's Bar. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the
Levitt-Weinstein Memorial Chapel in Hollywood, Fla. Funeral services

Dorothy V. (Horn) HOUSER, 80, of Levittown, formerly of Huntingdon, died
Monday, July 3, 2000, at Levittown. Born Feb. 29, 1920, in Kistler, she
was the daughter of the late William and Nellie (McMullen) Horn. She
married Robert E. Houser Jan. 12, 1942, in Philadelphia. He preceded her
in death Oct. 27, 1995. Surviving are two sons and a daughter: William
N. Houser of Philadelphia; Robert T. Houser of Bensalem; and Lori Lee
Houser of Coudersport. There are three grandchildren. Three brothers and
three sisters also survive: Eugene S. Horn of Mill Creek; Hubert L. Horn
of Huntingdon; Edward Horn of Mill Creek; Rhoda M. Baldwin of
Philadelphia; Barbara Vaughn of Orbisonia; and Elizabeth L. James of
Tyrone. Two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. Mrs. Houser
was actively employed in the retail trade. During her lifetime, she was
employed at Acme Supermarket, Sears and Roebuck and Wannamaker's, all in
the Philadelphia area. Mrs. Houser was an active member of the First
Regular Baptist Church of Huntingdon. She was also a Girl Scout leader
for 25 years in Philadelphia. She was a graduate of Mount Union High
School. At the request of the deceased, there will be no public viewing
or visitation. Private funeral services will be held Saturday, July 8,
at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon. The Rev. David Oldham
will officiate. Internment will be made at the Salem Cemetery, Shade Gap

Philip A. HAAG, 78, of 909 Jefferson Ave., Tyrone, died Wednesday, July
5, 2000, at Bon Secours Holy Family Hospital, Altoona. Born April 16,
1922, in Tyrone, he was the son of the late Francis H. and Martha
(Mullen) Haag. He was united in marriage to Leone R. Long Sept. 25,
1954, at St. Matthew's Church, Tyrone. Surviving along with his wife are
a daughter and four sons: Jean M. Lehner, Warriors Mark; Anthony Haag,
Bosemont, Mont.; Lawrence Haag, Tyrone; Alan Haag, San Luis Obispo,
Calif.; and Bryan Haag, Canastota, N.Y. There are five grandchildren.
One sister, Mary Jane Fink of Timonium, Md., survives. Mr. Haag retired
in 1985 from Conrail as a freight conductor, following 46 years of
service. He was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Tyrone Elks
No. 212, Howard Gardener American Legion Anderson-Denny VFW, Blazing
Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company, United Transportation Union and the
Railroad Trainman. He was a 1939 graduate of Tyrone High School and had
attended Clemson University in South Carolina. A U.S. Army veteran of
World War II, he served as a mortar gunner in the 87th infantry division
in Central Europe. He was a prisoner of war in Germany in the winter of
1944-1945 and received two Bronze Stars. He finished the war at Fort
Benning, Ga., in parachute school. A funeral Mass will be held Friday,
July 7, at 10 a.m., at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, with the Rev.
Joseph T. Orr officiating. Interment will be made in the Oak Grove
Cemetery, Tyrone. Friends will be received at the Feller Memorial Home
from 2 until 4 p.m. and from 7 until 9 p.m. today. A vigil for the

Hope Clark MUSSER, 94, formerly of Huntingdon and St. Petersburg, Fla.,
and a resident of the Edwards Personal Care Home of Shade Gap for the
past three years, died at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at
Chambersburg. Born May 4,1906, at Shade Gap, R.D., she was the daughter
of George M. and Sadie (Jones) Clark. She married Samuel C. Musser Sept.
27, 1926, in Hagerstown, Md. He preceded her in death May 2, 1978. Jean
Bollinger, a daughter, also preceded her in death. One sister, Lenore
Leonard, survives in Lewistown. Two brothers and five sisters preceded
her in death. Mrs. Musser was of the Methodist faith. She was employed
at Owens Corning Fiberglas in Huntingdon for 35 years. It was Mrs.
Musser's request that there be no public viewing or visitation. Private
graveside services will be held in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon, with

Frances Elizabeth BUMGARDNER, 79, of Cassville, died at 10 p.m. Friday,
July 7, 2000, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Oct. 1,
1920, in Three Springs, she was the daughter of the late Ira and Lillie
Mae (Rupert) Grissinger. She was married to Mitchel E. Bumgardner June
30, 1949. He preceded her in death Jan. 3, 1992. Surviving are six
children: George E. Bumgardner, Southport, N.C.; Leroy Bumgardner,
McConnellstown; Mary Bumgardner, Cassville; David F. Bumgardner,
Duncansville; Robert P. Bumgardner, Huntingdon; and Ruth Blanchard,
Clarendon, N.C. There are eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Seven siblings survive: Ellen Naugle, Mapleton; Blanche Grissinger,
Huntingdon; Rella Blair, Mount Union; Harold Grissinger, Levittown; Erma
Baer, Tabor City, N.C.; Beatrice Sandsmark, New Carlisle, Ind.; and
Irvin Grissinger, Waynesboro. One infant brother preceded her in death.
Mrs. Bumgardner was a homemaker. She was of the Protestant faith.

M. Marie DOWNES, 97, of 28976 Great.Cove Rd., Fort Littleton, died
Sunday, July 9, 2000, at Green Ridge Village, Newville. Born Aug. 30,
1902, in Burnt Cabins, she was the daughter of the late Denton and
Francis (Mills) Gallagher. Her husband, Robert Marcus Downes, preceded
her in death. Surviving are two sons: Elwood Gallagher of Burnt Cabins
and Robert "Bob" Downes Jr., Fort Littleton. There are 11 grandchildren
and 10 great-grandchildren. One brother and a sister, Guy Gallagher of
Dover and Nancy Hess of Shade Gap, survive. One daughter, Delores Boyer,
a brother and a sister preceded her in death. Mrs. Downes was a member
of the Burnt Cabins United Methodist Church, where she played the piano
for several years. She was the owner and operator of the Downes Motel in
Fort Littleton. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 13, at 10
a.m. at the Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Inc., 322 N. Second St.,
McConnellsburg, with the Rev. Donald Bard officiating. Interment will be

Josephine Ruth MILLER, 69, of HC 62, Shade Gap, died at 5 p.m. Friday,
July 7, 2000, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born June 29,
1931, in Orbisonia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph K. and Ruth
Pauline (Bard) Price. She was united in marriage to William K. Miller
Aug. 21, 1949. Mr. Miller survives at home, along with two daughters:
Deborah S. Kling of Burnt Cabins and Carol Ann Lane, Blairs Mills, R.R.
1. There are six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Ten siblings
survive: Richard E. Price Sr., Glenda D. Price, Susan N. Willis,
Victoria A. Price, Randall J. Price and Joseph M. Price Sr., all of
Shade Gap; Gary L. Price and Mary Jane Rinker, both of Orbisonia; Sandra
K. Hughes, Smyrna, Tenn.; and Thelma Marlene Brown, Patton. Mrs. Miller
was of the Protestant faith. For several years, she worked as a
waitress. Her last employment was at the Gap Mini-Mart in Shade Gap.

Sara K. SAYLOR, 86, of 36 W. 31st St., Huntingdon, died Saturday, July
8, 2000, at 3:30 p.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. She
had been in failing health for the past year. Born May 22, 1914, in
Academia, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Harry and
Laura (Hockenberry) Casner. She was first united in marriage to Thomas
Campbell, who preceded her in death in 1957. She later married Ralph
Saylor, who preceded her in death in 1988. Surviving are three children:
Harold 0. Campbell, Saltillo; Donna G. Taylor, Huntingdon; and Connie M.
McQuait,,Hustontown. There are 11 grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren. A son, Harry, and a daughter, Sharon, preceded her
in death. One sister, Anna Margaret of Lewistown, survives. She was
preceded in death by several brothers and sisters: Foster, Henry, Carl,
Cloyd, Esther, Emma, Frank, Donald, Martha, Homer and Kenneth. Mrs.
Saylor was of the Protestant faith. She was employed by the custodial
staff at Huntingdon area schools for a number of years and retired in
1989. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 12, at 2 p.m., at
the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Vivian
Carbaugh officiating. Interment will be made in the Mattawana Cemetery,

Alda Jane LEONARD, 78, a resident of Masonic Homes, Elizabethtown,
formerly of Shirleysburg, died at 5:35 p.m. Sunday, July 9, 2000, at the
Masonic Homes. Born March 31, 1922, in Shirley Township, Huntingdon
County, she was the daughter of late Howard and Edith (Swarner) Love.
She married Mearl S. Leonard Aug. 16, 1941. He survives at the Masonic
Home. Surviving are two sons and one daughter: Barry Leonard of
Shirleysburg, Joseph Leonard of Lancaster and Nancy Leonard of
Duncannon. There are three grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and
four step-great-grandchildren. One sister, Lena Love of Shirleysburg
survives. Two brothers, Max Love and Doran Love, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Leonard was a member of the Shirleysburg United Methodist Church.
She was primarily a homemaker. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.

Ann Lenore (DeGroodt) CONLEY of Mays Landing, N.J., formerly of
Huntingdon, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at the Health Center at Galloway
in Pomona, N.J., after a lengthy illness. Born and reared in Atlantic
City, N.J., she married John J. Conley, of Portland, Maine, who preceded
her in death in 1977. Surviving are four sons: Jack Conley of Mays
Landing, N.J., Ken Conley of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., Brian Conley of
Pomona, N.J., and Phelim Conley of Buxton, Maine. There are seven
grandchildren. One brother, Philip DeGroodt of Delray Beach, Fla.,
survives. She was preceded in death by a son, Kevin, and a brother,
Charles DeGroodt. A graduate of Atlantic City High School, she attended
the University of Alabama. After her marriage in 1939, she lived in
Connecticut, West Virginia, Bridgeton and Atlantic City, N.J., before
settling in Huntingdon in 1950. In Huntingdon, Mrs. Conley was active in
many endeavors. She worked as assistant to the librarian at Juniata
College for more than 30 years until her retirement. She was a member of
St. John's Episcopal Church, where she was active in parish activities.
She served as president of the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
One of her major interests was working with organizations that assisted
handicapped people. She served as president of the local 1973 chapter of
Easter Seal Society and worked actively with Huntingdon County PRIDE. In
the Atlantic County area, Mrs. Conley was a member of Christ Episcopal
Church in Somers Point, N.J. She enjoyed her retirement and the
opportunity to spend time with her family and grandchildren. A funeral
Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 14, at Christ Episcopal
Church, 157 Shore Rd., Somers Point, N.J. Interment will follow at
Laurel Memorial Park, Pomona. Friends may call at the church after 10
a.m. until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to Easter Seals or the charity of the donor's

Louis E. FRYE Sr., 63, of 45 Taylor Apartments, Mount Union, formerly of
Chambersburg died unexpecedly at his home Monday, July 10, 2000. Born
May 31, 1937, in Mount Union, he was the son of the late Jesse L. Frye
and Marie (Jeffries) Everetts. He is survived by five children: Angela
A. Barbour, Chambersburg; Arthur L. Frye, Shippensburg; Crystal A. Frye,
Lancaste; Terrance T. Frye, Chambersburg; and Jesse L. Hamman, Mount
Union. There are six grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Two
sisters, Evelyn M. "Sue" Trice of Mount Union and Jean Wynn of
Pittsburgh, survive, along with several nieces, nephews and friends. Mr.
Frye was preceded in death by a son, Louis E. Frye Jr, and the following
brothers and sister: Arthur L. Frye, William S. Frye, Naomi E. Martin,
Jesse R. Frye and Robert G. Frye. He attended the Mount Union schools.
From July 31, 1954 until May 11, 1956, he served in the U.S. Army. Mr.
Frye had worked at Robin Footwear, Mount Union, and Elco Corp.,
Huntingdon. He was most recently employed as a custodian by the VFW Post
No. 5754, Mount Union. He was a member of the following organizations:
Huntingdon VFW, Mount Union VFW, American Legion Post No. 107 of Mount
Union, Laurel Lodge of Chambersburg and IBPOE of W, No. 702, Mount
Union, where he was a trustee and escort. He was a member of the Mt.
Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Mount Union. Funeral services will be
held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 14, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home,
Mount Union, with the Rev. I. S. Owens officiating. Interment will be

William E. SWIGART Jr., 85, of Huntingdon died Monday, July 10, 2000, at
J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital. Born Feb. 2, 1915, in Huntingdon, he was a
son of the late W. Emmert and Eva Workman Swigart. In 1940, he married
Helen Fetterhoof, who died May 11, 1991. On Oct. 18, 1992, he married
Patricia Bittner Trefz, who survives at home. He was a 1933 graduate of
Huntingdon High School. He attended Wooster College in Wooster, Ohio,
and graduated from Juniata College in Huntingdon in 1937. An Army
veteran, he served during World War II, leaving commissioned as a
captain. He joined Swigart Associates Inc., the firm founded by his
father in 1907. Following the death of his father in 1949, he was
elected Corporate Vice President/Secretary and later President and
C.E.O. In 1986, he moved to the position of Chairman of the Board. He
was also involved in the insurance profession, handling antique
automobile insurance, as well as his real estate and museum businesses.
He was past president of the Pennsylvania Association of Mutual
Insurance Companies. For more than 60 years he served on the board of
the Huntingdon County United Way, which had been started by him as the
Huntingdon County Community Chest. He also served a two-term
directorship of the United Way of Pennsylvania. In 1998, he was the
first recipient of the William E. Swigart Jr. United Way Service Award,
to be given annually. Also in 1998, he received the Community Star
Jefferson Award for outstanding community service representing six
Central Pennsylvania counties. He supported the Boy Scouts of America
and was given the Silver Beaver Award, among other honors. At the time
of his death he was a member of the board of directors of the Juniata
Valley Council 497 of the Boy Scouts of America. He was active in other
community organizations and Juniata College. He was a lifelong member of
the Stone Church of the Brethren, having been a former teacher of the
Adult Bible Class and serving as a Deacon. He was also a member of
several social clubs, including past president and member for more than
60 years of the Huntingdon Kiwanis Club. He was owner of the William E.
Swigart Jr. Antique Automobile Museum, the oldest car museum in America.
He was a life member since 1947, past national president and former
secretary of the board of the Antique Automobile Club of America Inc.
and served on the board of directors for 35 years. He was a member of
several other automobile related organizations. In 1997 he was named to
the International Collector Car Hall of Fame. In addition to his wife,
he is survived by two daughters, Anne S. Seeger of Arlington, Va., and
Susan S. Porter of Plymouth, Mich.; two sons, William E. III of North
Providence, R.I., and Jeffrey F. of Malvern; a stepdaughter, Patricia E.
Krow of Hummelstown; a stepson, Stephen R. Hall of Hummelstown; a
sister, Naomi S. Miller of Huntingdon; eight grandchildren; three
stepgranddaughters; and a stepgreat-granddaughter. Visitation will be
from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Trefz and Bowser Funeral Home Inc., 114 W.
Main St., Hummelstown, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at
Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, Ridge Road and Juniata Avenue, Smithfield

the Brethren, 17th and Moore streets, Huntingdon. The funeral will be at

Richard L. "Dick" IDDINGS Sr., 60, of Spruce Creek died Monday, July 10,
2000, at Tyrone Hospital following a brief illness. Born Oct. 11, 1939,
in Tyrone, he was a son of the late Reuben Samuel and Bessie Irene
Summers Iddings. On Oct. 5, 1957, in Sinking Valley, he married Connie
L. Waite, who survives at home. On July 1 he retired as a pipe fitter
from Westvaco Corp. in Tyrone after 43 years of service. He was a former
member of the Pennsylvania National Guard and the Army Reserve. He
attended the Spruce Creek Methodist Church. He enjoyed his family,
camping and his pet dog Molly. He was an avid turkey hunter. In addition
to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Pam Hoover of Stormstown; a
son, Richard L. Jr. of Spruce Creek; a sister, Maxine Golden of Tyrone;
two brothers, Ronald and Junior, both of Tyrone; three grandchildren;
and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five sisters
and brothers. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at
Derman Funeral Home Inc., 1200 Lincoln Ave., Tyrone. The funeral will be

Barbara Anderson Steel de MEZA, 79, of Washington, D.C., died suddenly
Saturday, July 1, 2000, at her residence. Born July 21, 1920, in
Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late Maxwell W. and Miriam Diana
(Anderson) Steel. She was united in marriage to Luis Alberto Meza Feb.
14, 1951, in Cuernavaca, Mexico, and March 18, 1951, in the First United
Methodist Church, Huntingdon. Mr. Meza preceded her in death Aug. 7,
1978. One daughter, Rosalinda "Rosi" Meza-Steel de Martinez of
Washington, D.C., survives. Also surviving are two brothers and one
sister: Major General Maxwell W. Steel Jr., Falls Church, Va.; David H.
Steel, Hesston; and Patricia Steel, New York, N.Y Mrs. Meza was a member
of the Episcopal Church. She was also a member of the Daughters of the
American Revolution, the American Association of Language Specialists,
Self Help for the Hard of Hearing and the West End Library in
Washington, D.C. She was employed by Inter-American Development Bank and
the Henry M. Snyder Publishers Export Representatives. Mrs. Meza
attended the Huntingdon public schools and graduated from Huntingdon
High School with the Class of 1936. She was a 1940 graduate of Bryn Mawr
College. She had lived at her current residence since 1975. Mrs. Meza
was an avid reader, a founder and supporter of libraries, an
accomplished linguist and a renowned translator and editor. She was also
an enthusiastic world traveler who supported the deaf. She was also an
ardent dog lover. A private graveside service was held at Riverview
Cemetery Friday, July 7, with the Rev. W. Thomas Warne III officiating.

Malcolm F. "Mac" DRAKE, 84, of Woodbury, formerly of 3139 Brumbaugh Rd.,
New Enterprise, died Wednesday morning, July 12, 2000, at the home of
his daughter, following a brief illness. Born Aug. 5, 1915, in Three
Springs, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Fred B. and Ruth
(Duvall) Drake. He married Marie L. Cogan Jan. 20, 1937. Surviving are
his wife, two sons and two daughters: Robert F. Drake and Edward P
Drake, both of Martinsburg, R.R. 2, Betty M. Harcleroad, with whom he
resided, and Bonnie I. Clark of Everett. There are 14 grandchildren, a
step-grandson, 13 great-grandchildren, five step- great-grandchildren
and three step-great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
three sons and a daughter: Donald V. Drake in 1949, Benjamin L. Drake in
1966, Ronald D. Drake in 1968 and Martha J. Harcleroad in 1969. Two
sisters and a brother also survive: Isabelle Dixon, Martinsburg; Jean
Kleeder, Euclid, Ohio; and John M. Drake, Curryville. Three brothers and
five sisters preceded him in death: Gideon, Donald and Wayne Drake,
Grace Price, Mary Hall, infant Elizabeth, Sara Long and Emma Thompson.
Mr. Drake was a member of the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren,
where he was a former Sunday School teacher and deacon. He was a former
member of the Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, Martinsburg, R.R. 2.
He retired as a lifelong dairy farmer in the Morrisons Cove area and
also served as the farmer of Old Bedford Village. Mr. Drake attended the
Morrisons Cove schools and studied agricultural home correspondence
courses at Penn State University. He also studied Dale Carnegie courses.
He enjoyed traveling, gardening and reading. Mr. Drake was a member of
Bedford County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, the Bedford
County Republican Club, the Southern Cove Lions Club and the National
and Pennsylvania State Holstein associations. He also belonged to
several Bedford County agricultural and dairy associations, along with
Republican clubs. He was a former North Woodbury Township supervisor.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at New Enterprise
Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Martin Hutchinson officiating.
Interment will be made in the Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg. Friends

W. Harry HOFFER, 92, a resident of Meadowview Manor Personal Care Home
in McVeytown for 11 months, for the past two months a resident of
Huntingdon Manor and formerly of R.R. 1, Box 209, West Township,
Petersburg, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at 12:04 a.m., at Huntingdon
Manor. He had been in failing health for the past two months. Born May
21, 1908, in Barree Township, he was the son of the late Asberry
and Alice (McCrum) Hoffer. He was united in marriage to Louise Stewart
Nov. 14, 1942, in York, by the Rev. Joseph Rigby. She preceded him in
death May 6, 1989. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Gary W. (Kay Lou)
Hurley of Alexandria, one granddaughter and a grandson. Two sisters,
Hazel Longenecker of Washington and Mrs. J. Wesley (Ruth) Spahn of
Somerset, survive, along with one nephew. One brother, Howard Hoffer,
preceded him in death. Mr. Hoffer was a lifelong mechanic by trade. He
owned and operated his own garage and service station in Mooresville for
over 50 years. Following his wife's death, he worked for eight years
under the Green Thumb Program at the Juniata Valley High School in the
cafeteria and custodial departments. Mr. Hoffer was a life member of the
Mooresville United Methodist Church and United Methodist Men. He also
belonged to the Mooresville Cemetery Association for over 50 years. He
was a member of the Shavers Creek Grange and was an instrumental part of
organizing the Shavers Creek Volunteer Fire Company. He attended the
West Township public schools and served in the United States Army during
World II. He had been a longtime resident, of Mooresville, West
Township. Private funeral services will be held at the Mooresville
United Methodist Church, Petersburg, R.D. 1, Route 305 at Mooresville,
with the Rev. Sharon L. Landis officiating. Interment will be made in
the Mooresville Cemetery. The family requests that flowers be omitted

The Rev. William W. KAUFFMAN, 75, of Petersburg, R.R. 1, died at 10:45
a.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at his home. Born Feb. 22, 1925, in Port
Royal, he was the son of the late Oliver W. and Barbara Matilda (Walter)
Kauffman. He is survived by a son and two daughters: William Alexander
Kauffman, Lyons, N.Y.; Gayle Ewing, Petersburg, R.R. 1, and Nancy Embly,
Jacksonville, N.C. There are seven grandchildren. One sister, Mrs.
George (Frances) Crimmel of Port Royal., survives. He was preceded in
death by a sister, Barbara Edna Metzgar, and a half-sister, Catherine
Wagner. The Rev. Kauffman was a retired United Methodist minister. He
had served parishes in Monroeton; Manor Hill Charge; Broad Avenue,
Altoona; Mapleton; and Robertsdale. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II,
he was a graduate of Tuscarora Valley High School, Port Royal, and a
1967 graduate of the Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. He
was ordained an elder in 1968 with the Central Pennsylvania Conference
of the United Methodist Church. In his early years, he served as a lay
speaker at the Port Royal United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kauffman was
a member of the Port Royal United Methodist Church. He also belonged to
the Blue Masonic Lodge of Monroeton and was a 32nd degree mason of the
Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Altoona. Funeral services will
be held Saturday, July 15, at 11 a.m., at the Port Royal United
Methodist Church, Port Royal, with the Rev. Thomas H. Irwin Jr.,
district superintendent of Altoona District, and Pastor Frank J. Swartz,

Kay M. GLICK, 60, of 929 Jacks Creek Road, Lewistown, died at 12:30 p.m.
Thursday, July 13, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital. Born July 21, 1939, in
Belleville, she was the daughter of the late Clyde C. and Grace A.
(Oburn) Randolph. She married Sherman L. Glick June 18, 1960. Mr. Glick
survives at home, along with the following children: Mrs. Thomas (Susan)
Shank and David C. Glick, both of Lewistown; Mrs. Jacob (Paula) Fisher,
McClure; and Mrs. James (Christine) Orwig, Mifflintown. There are five
grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. George (Darlene) Sunderland, survives in
Belleville. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Randolph. Mrs.
Glick was a 1957 graduate of Huntingdon High School and a 1960 graduate
of the Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing. She was a homemaker and was
the secretary of Kish Valley Dairy Sales. Earlier in life, she had
worked as a registered nurse. Mrs. Glick was a member of the Allensville
Presbyterian Church and of the Mount Union Chapter of the Order of the
Eastern Star. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the

David L. SNYDER, 61, of Albuquerque, N.M., died unexpectedly June 9,
2000. Born Feb. 21, 1939, in Mount Union, he was the son of the late
Rolland H. Snyder and Violet (Costlow) Snyder, who survives in
Petersburg and Kissimmee, Fla. He married Mary Jane Temple, formerly of
Petersburg, who survives in Albuquerque. Also surviving are a stepson,
William Spyker of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and a stepdaughter, Beth
(Spyker) Shultz of Wyalusing. One brother and three sisters survive:
Russell Snyder, Petersburg and Kissimmee, Fla.; Joan (Snyder) Rhody,
Stroudsburg; Peggy (Snyder) Kissinger, Canoe Creek; and Rita (Snyder)
McDonel, Alexandria. One brother, John R. Snyder, preceded him in death.
Mr. Snyder graduated from Juniata Valley High School in 1957 and
attended Simmons School of Mortuary Science of Syracuse, N.Y., following
his graduation, In the early 1960s, Mr. Snyder served as a medic in the
United States Army. During his life, he was a human resources
professional, working as the human resources director of hospitals in
Williamsport, Lancaster and Harrisburg. While living in the Lancaster
and Harrisburg areas, he worked with juvenile offenders in the Friends
of the Court civic organization. In 1982, Mr. Snyder and his wife
relocated to Albuquerque, where he continued his career in the human
services field, becoming a private consultant during his latter years.
He was a member of American Legion posts in the areas where he resided
and was an active member of the TIP& Club; and the IrishAmerican Society
of Albuquerque.
Naomi R. DESPOT, 76, of 420 Lindsay St., Hollidaysburg, died at 8:05
p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at Bon Secours Holy Family Hospital,
Altoona, following a brief. illness. Born March 4, 1924, in Sinking
Valley, she was the daughter of the late John and Edna (Weyer) Kinch.
She was united in marriage April 2, 1953, to Frank 0. Despot in
Orbisonia. Mr. Despot survives, along with a son and a daughter: Kenneth
Despot of Duncansville and Sharon Quigley of Hollidaysburg. There are
six grandchildren and two great- granddaughters. One brother, Ralph
Kinch of Norfolk, Va., and two sisters, Helen Friday of Osceola Mills
and Beverly Itinger of Alexandria, survive. She was preceded in death by
one brother, Paul Kinch, and two sisters, Thelma Kinch and Betty Oswalt.
Mrs. Despot was a member of the First Presbyterian Church,
Hollidaysburg. She was a lifelong homemaker, avid reader and music
lover. Her main joy was being with and helping her entire family. She
was a true friend to all who knew her. Funeral services will be held at
10 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at the Plank, Stitt and Stevens Funeral Home,

Donald Charles SHAFER, 88, of 2518 Holland Ave., Huntingdon, died
Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at 11:30 a.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital,
Huntingdon. He had been in declining health for several months. Born May
21, 1912, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late William and Dora
(Drake) Shafer. He was united in marriage to Helen Isabel Kann Jan. 5,
1934, in Cumberland, Md., by the Rev. R.E. Webb. Mrs. Shafer preceded
him in death Jan. 19, 1993. One son and two daughters survive: Jack
Drake Shafer, Middletown, Ohio; Donna S. Rinker, Huntingdon; and Linda
A. Welter, Fairfax, Va. There are six grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren. Mr. Shafer was the last surviving member of his
immediate family. He was a member of the Abbey Reformed Church United
Church of Christ, Huntingdon, where he was always active in refurbishing
projects and was a member of the church basketball league in his youth.
Mr. Shafer was a self-employed grocer for 47 years. He took over the
family business, Shafer's Brothers Economy Store, located at 627 Sixth
St., Huntingdon. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the
Pennsylvania State University for ten years. He was a member of the
grocers cooperative, known as the Huntingdon Grocery Company. He was
instrumental in creating the company and served as past president. It
was later referred to as Economy Stores and was in existence for 32
years. Mr. Shafer was well-known for restoring toys and donating them to
Huntingdon House. He was also a former member of the Huntingdon Lions
Club. He attended the William Smith School and graduated in 1931 from
Huntingdon High School. He had been a resident of Huntingdon County
since birth and had lived at his current residence for the past 15
years. A funeral service will be held at the John B. Brown Funeral Home,
Inc., 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, Monday, July 17, at 10 a.m., with
the Rev. Gary H. Marcy officiating. Interment will be made in the
Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Walker Township, Huntingdon County. Friends

Robert L. "Bob" FLEEGAL, 71, of 45 Cedar Drive, Lewistown, died at 5:30
a.m. July 15, 2000, at his residence. Born April 30, 1929, in Lewistown,
he was the son of the late Legora C. and Mary E. (Russell) Fleegal. He
was united in marriage to Margaret Logan, who survives at home. Also
surviving are four children: Michael R. Fleegal, Deborah Moist, Mrs.
Stephen (Cynthia) Barger and Brian L. Fleegal, all of Lewistown. There
are eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Several cousins
survive in the Huntingdon area. Mr. Fleegal was a construction worker
employed by Pipefitters Local No. 520, Harrisburg, for 50 years. He
retired on disability in 1990. During the Korean War, he served in the
U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Strodes Mills Baptist Church and
the West Granville Fire Company. Funeral services will be held

Helen (Miller) KIRACOFE, 99, a resident of the Lutheran Home in
Hollidaysburg, formerly of Huntingdon and Hollidaysburg, died Friday,
July 14, 2000, at the home, following a brief illness. Born June 18,
1901, in Bridgewater, Va., she was the daughter of the late Virgil L.
and Mary Rebecca (Sanger) Miller. She was united in marriage June 18,
1925, in Bridgewater, Va., to Edgar Stuart Kiracofe, who preceded her in
death April 10, 1979. One daughter, Betty Weicht of Hollidaysburg,
survives. There are six grandchildren and 18, great-grandchildren. One
sister, Margaret M. Farrell of the Lutheran Home in Hollidaysburg,
survives. One daughter, Nancy Stewart, preceded her in death in 1987,
and a grandson, Peter Stewart, also in 1987. Mrs. Kiracofe was a member
of the Church of the Brethren. A 1925 graduate of Bridgewater College in
Bridgewater, Va., she was a charter member of the Standing Stone Art
League, Huntingdon, and was a member of the Standing Stone Chapter,
Daughters of the American Revolution, also of Huntingdon. Funeral

Beulah Maude (Louder) ISETT, 79, of Twin Gables, Cold Springs Road,
Huntingdon, died Friday, July 14, 2000, at 7:40 a.m., at the Altoona
Hospital. Born March 31, 1921, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of
the late Chester Paul and Lulu Grace (Walls) Louder. She was united in
marriage to John Melvin Isett Oct. 5, 1940, in Huntingdon, with the Rev.
George Morgan, pastor of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church,
Huntingdon, officiating. Mr. Isett survives at home, along with one son
and two daughters: Judy G. Isett, Chester P. Isett and Eileen Isett
Moore, all of Huntingdon. There are four grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers and one sister:
Robert E. Louder, Huntingdon; David F. Louder, Rochester, N.Y.; and Mrs.
Frank (Grace) Barnish, Huntingdon. One brother, Chester Paul Louder Jr.,
preceded her in death. Mrs. Isett was a lifelong member of the Christian
and Missionary Alliance Church, Huntingdon, assuming many committee
chairs over the years. Mrs. lsett was a constant and staunch supporter
of numerous charitable organizations on the local, state and national
level, especially Huntingdon County PRIDE, Inc., local unit of the
American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association; Huntingdon
County Historical Society, Salvation Army, Huntingdon Fire Department,
Huntingdon Ambulance Service, Huntingdon County Friends of the Library
and J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Juniata Valley
Chapter No. 121, Order of the Amaranth, where she had achieved the
office of royal matron and currently held the office of chapter
treasurer, which she held for many years. She was an active member of
the Soroptimist Club of Huntingdon County and was a former member of the
Order of the Eastern Star and the auxiliary of the Salvation Army,
Huntingdon. In 1942, Beulah, along with her husband, Melvin, began a
very long and successful business career in the Huntingdon community.
These various businesses ranged from the Crossroads General Store,
Isett's TV Sales and Service, Meltronic Distributors, Inc., to Isett's
Department Store. They were pioneers in the cable industry by forming
the Huntingdon TV Cable Company in 1961, among one of the earliest cable
companies in Pennsylvania. After establishing a long and distinguished
position in the business community and after 60 years of marriage and
business partnership, the Isetts retired in April 1999, when they sold
the cable company. Mrs. Isett attended the Huntingdon public schools and
graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1938. She had been a resident
of Huntingdon County since birth and had lived at her current residence
since 1946. Mrs. Isett enjoyed flower gardening, antiques, cooking and
helping others by her numerous acts of kindness and her expression of
love through her personal cards, notes and telephone calls. She always
had a kind word and a kind heart. A funeral service will be held at the
Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 1019 Moore St., Huntingdon,
Tuesday, July 18, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Peter Sears and the Rev.
Palmer E. Zerbe officiating. Interment will be made in the Old Stone
Church Cemetery, Penn Township, James Creek. Friends may call at the

Anna F. CHRISTOFF, 71, of P.O. Box 329, Overbrook Acres, Mount Union,
died at 2:35 p.m. Friday, July 14, 2000, at J.C. Blair Memorial
Hospital, Huntingdon. Born March 15, 1929, in Middleburg, Snyder County,
she was the daughter of the late Roy F. and Mary (Walter) Hackenberg.
She was united in marriage to Arthur S. Christoff July 14, 1956, in
Mount Union. He preceded her in death May 16, 1996. One daughter and one
son survive: Patricia Salisbury of Radnor and Roger Christoff of Mount
Union. One grandson, one granddaughter and one aunt survive, along with
two brothers: Nevin Hackenberg of McClure and Miles Hackenberg of
Middleburg. One sister, Frona Hackenberg, preceded her in death. Mrs.
Christoff was formerly employed with her husband, operating County
Mobile Homes, Inc., founded and owned by her husband. She attended the
Middleburg schools and was a lifelong member of the Zion United
Methodist Church, Middleburg. Funeral services were held today, July 17,

Joanne L. PARK, 67, of Sinoquipe Road, Fort Littleton, died at 3:20 p.m.
Friday, July 14, 2000, at the Fulton County Medical Center,
McConnellsburg. Born Aug. 3, 1932, in McConnellsburg, she was the
daughter of the late Clair K. and Katie E. (Kendall) Decker. She was
united in marriage to Foster W. Park Aug. 26, 1950, in Hagerstown, Md.
Mr. Park survives at home, along with a son and a daughter: Andrew W.
Park of Fort Littleton and Patti Jo Hunsinger of Shade Gap. There are
four grandsons and two great- grandchildren. One brother and one sister
survive: Richard Decker of Mercersburg and Doris Fowler of Carlisle.
Mrs. Park was a member of the Immanuel Bible Church, Three Springs, R.D.
She had served as Dublin Township, Fulton County, tax collector for the
past 21 years. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July
18, at the M R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, with Pastor Steve
Heaster officiating. Interment will be made in the Old Methodist
Cemetery, Orbisonia, R.D. (Maddensville).
William H. RUTHERFORD, 81, of 50 Huey St., Allensville, died at 3:30
a.m. Sunday, July 16, 2000, at Meadowview Manor, McVeytown, R.R. 1. Born
May 26, 1919, in Mill Creek, he was the son of the late Herbert and
Gertrude (Kimmel) Rutherford. He married Thelma M. Adams March 25, 1946.
She survives, along with three daughters: Mrs. Lloyd (Anna Marie) Yoder,
Allensville; Mrs. Lloyd (Mary) Grubb, Huntingdon, R.R. 1; and Mrs.
Thomas (Karen) Kauffman, Huntingdon, R.R. 3. There are six grandchildren
and two great- grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters: Mrs.
Monroe (Marian) White and Beatrice Harbaugh, both of HCR 61, Mill Creek,
and Dorothy Moneta, Belle Vernon. Mr. Rutherford was preceded in death
by a daughter, Susan Faith Rutherford, June 17, 1996; a son, Richard
Allen Rutherford, May 30, 1948; a granddaughter, Lesley Yoder; and three
sisters, Margaret Bailey, Regina Imler and Irene Bowser. He was a
veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a
dairy farmer in Trough Creek Valley, retiring in 1965. He later worked
at Fairmont Products, Belleville, until his retirement in 1985. Mr.
Rutherford was a member of the Allensville Presbyterian Church, and a
life member of the Standing Stone Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No.
1754, Huntingdon, and Trough Creek Valley Grange. He was an avid
woodworker and an accomplished musician who played for square dances.

Annie Viola HULING, 90, formerly of 524 Penn St., Huntingdon, and most
recently a resident of Hillview Nursing Home, Altoona, died Monday, July
17, 2000, at 5:10 a.m., at Bon Secours Holy Family Regional Health
System, Altoona. Born March 26, 1910, in Oakland, Md., she was the
daughter of the late Isaiah and Elizabeth (Warfel) Haun. She was united
in marriage to Willard James Huling April 15, 1931, by the Rev. Edmund
L. Manges. Mr. Huling preceded her in death Aug. 5, 1970. Surviving are
two daughters: Martha Jane Houck and Orpha Ann Scott, both of
Huntingdon. There are nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and
five great-great-grandchildren. The last surviving member of her
immediate family, she was preceded in death by five half-brothers and
one half-sister. Mrs. Huling was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church,
Petersburg. She was employed by the Juniata Valley School District as a
cook and retired in 1972 after 30 years of service. Prior to that, she
worked at the J.C. Blair Company in Huntingdon. Funeral services will be
held Thursday, July 20, at 11 a.m., at the Zion Lutheran Church,
Petersburg, with the Rev. Peter Naschke officiating. Interment will be

Clair E. PROUGH, 87, of 511 N. Jefferson St., Mount Union, formerly of
Kistler, died at 11:45 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2000, at Huntingdon Manor,
Huntingdon. He had been.in failing health. Born Oct. 7, 1912, in
Hollidaysburg, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Oliver
Prough. He married Ruth Irvin March 17, 1946. Mrs. Prough survives,
along with the following children: Mary Lou Nickoloff, Mount Union;
William C. Myers, Newton Hamilton; Donald J. Myers, Mount Union, R.D.;
W. Elaine Stevens, Three Springs; Wendell L. Myers, Lakemont, Altoona;
Jack H. Myers, Alexandria, R.D.; Bonnie K. Barr, Altoona; Stephen C.
Prough, Mount Union, R.D.; Richard A. Prough, Lititz; Thomas D. Prough,
Danville; and Ronald E. Prough, Mount Union. There are 48 grandchildren
and a large number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
One brother, Merrill Prough of Danville, survives. Mr. Prough was
preceded in death by two daughters, Patricia Ann Prough and Phyllis J.
Fox, and a sister, Alice Whitecross. He was of the Methodist faith. He
retired in 1973 after 14 years as an employee of the American Legion
Stone House in Mount Union. He began there in 1959 when he retired on
disability from the PRR where he was injured, on the job. Mr. Prough was
an avid hunter, fisherman, and loved golf. Funeral services will be held
at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount
Union, with lay pastor Richard Barr of Altoona officiating. Interment
will be made in the Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg, R.D. 1.

Kate WORTHING, 103, a resident of Homestead Village, Lancaster, formerly
of Saxton, died July 16, 2000, at the Homestead Village Health Center.
Born June 1, 1897, in Elizabeth Taylor, Allegheny Township, she was the
daughter of the late William and Jane (Griffiths) Robson. She was united
in marriage to Clyde A. Worthing Sept. 1, 1917, in Monessen. He preceded
her in death July 15, 1967. One son, Lee 0. Worthing of Lancaster
survives, along with three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
One brother, Joseph Robson of Monongahela, survives. Two daughters, Edna
Wertman and Ruby Koch, and one brother and four sisters preceded her in
death. Mrs. Worthing was a member of the Ttinity United Church of
Christ, She was a member of the Mite Society and the Broad Top Area
Senior Citizens. She was primarily a homemaker and a seamstress and was
active in her church. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 20,
at 11 a.m., at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with the Rev.
Charles Davis officiating. Interment will be made in St. Luke's
Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 until 9 p.m.

Robert N. ADOLPHSON, 72, of 7961 Raystown Rd., Saxton, died Tuesday,
July 18, 2000, at his residence. Born April 29, 1928, in Dudley, he was
the son of the late Harry and Lucta (Heath) Adolphson. He was united in
marriage to Ann Fitzgerald Oct. 1, 1951 in Cumberland, Md. Surviving are
three children: Shelia K. Ford and Larry G. Adolphson, both of Saxton;
and Wanda S. Sweger, Waterfall. There are four grandsons and a nephew.
The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in
death by a brother, William H. Adolphson July 20, 1999. He was a member
of the Robertsdale Church of God. Mr. Adolphson was a veteran of the
U.S. Navy. During his life he enjoyed hunting, fishing and family
outings. He was employed as a forklift operator for Saxton Bottling Co.
for 20 years, retiring in 1986. As a child, he attended school in
Dudley. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 20, at 4 p.m., at
the Robertsdale Church of God, with Pastor Donald Simmons officiating.
Interment will be made in the IOOF Cemetery. Friends may call at the

Helen M. BILGER, 81, of State College died Monday, July 17, 2000, at
Centre Community Hospital. Born Nov. 23, 1918, in Alexandria, she was a
daughter of the late Harvey and Margaret Hawk Mitchell. On May 29, 1935,
she married Robert E. "Doc" Bilger, who survives at Moran's Home in
Bellwood. Formerly of Tyrone, she and her husband had resided in Lehigh
Acres, Fla., for 27 years before moving back to Pennsylvania two years
ago. She retired from Big Yank Corp. in Tyrone, after more than 20 years
there. While in Tyrone, she was very active in support of her husband's
role in establishing the Tyrone Baseball Program and the founding and
organization of the ballfields in Tyrone. She was a member of Tyrone
Wesley United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband, she is
survived by a daughter, Margaret "Peg" Conrad of Warriors Mark; two
half-brothers, Richard Myers of Huntingdon and Larry Myers of Tyrone;
seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews. Three sons, an infant, Clarence H. and Robert M.; a half-sister
and two half-brothers preceded her in death. Visitation will be from 2
to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, at Derman Funeral Home Inc.,
1200 Lincoln Ave., Tyrone. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at

G. Harold PATTERSON, 82, of Wilmington, Del., died Friday, July 14,
2000, at 1:15 p.m., at Forwood Manor. Born in Uniontown, he spent most
of his childhood in Huntingdon. He was married to the former Evelyn Hood
in 1941. She preceeded him in death in 1998. He is survived by his son,
George Harold Patterson Jr. of Wilmington, Del., and a daughter, Linda
J. Patterson of Needham, Mass. There are four grandchildren. "Pat," as
his friends called him, worked for the DuPont Company's Jackson
Laboratory and Petroleum Laboratory for 38 years. At Jackson Laboratory,
he was the head of the physical and analytical division. He was editor
of the American Chemical Society's Del-Chem Bulletin from 1948-1950. He
received his B.S. magna cum laude from Juniata College in 1939 and his
Ph.D. in chemistry from Massachusetts Institute.of Technology in 1942
Mr. Patterson was also a member of the Brandywine Hundred and Claymont
Lions Clubs for 25 years. He served as district secretary of the Lions
Clubs International District 22-D. He also volunteered at Hagley Museum
in Wilmington for many years. An active member of the Presbyterian
Church of the Covenant, he was a trustee and a deacon and sang in the
choir over a 25-year period. In his spare time, he was an avid golfer. A
funeral service will be held Sunday, July 23, at 3 p.m., at the
Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 503 Duncan Rd., North Wilmington,
Del. Interment will follow in the church's memorial garden. In lieu of

Robert S. STEWART, 68, of 254 Sechrist Road, McVeytown, died at 1:35
a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital. He died
following an extended illness. Born Aug. 31, 1931, in Oliver Township,
Mifflin County, he was the son of the late James C. Sr. and Josephine
(Dunmire) Stewart. Four children survive: Lisa R. Stewart of York, Tina
M. Runk, Steven M. Stewart and Stanley E. Stewart, all of Mount Union.
There are six grandchildren and one great- granddaughter. Two sisters,
Kay Peterson of Lewistown and Sara Jane Rebuck of Boalsburg, survive.
The following brothers and sisters preceded him in death: James C.
Stewart Jr., Margaret Yoder, Grace Yeakley, Lois Moist and Philip
Stewart. Mr. Stewart was of the Presbyterian faith. He began employment
with Pennsylvania Sand Corp., now US Silica of Mapleton Oct. 31, 1954
and continued there until he retired March 1, 1985. He was a crane
operator. Mr. Stewart was a member and past commander of American Legion
Post No. 107 and VFW Post No. 5754, both of Mount Union; and was a
member of the Order of the Sons of Italy, Mount Union; Loyal Order of
the Moose, Huntingdon; American Legion Post No. 322, Mapleton; American
Legion Post, Orbisonia-Rockhill and Elks Lodge No. 976, Huntingdon. He
was also a charter member of the Atkinsons Mills Sportsman's Club and
was past president and member of Mount Union Lions Club. Mr. Stewart was
also an avid race car fan. He attended the Rothrock schools and served
overseas in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Funeral services will
be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 21, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home,
Mount Union, with the Rev. Franklin Moist officiating. Interment will be

Alma J. CROWNOVER-CRAMER, 95, of HCR 61, Box 422, Mill Creek, died
Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at 12:35 a.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial
Hospital, Huntingdon. Born July 21, 1904, in Johnstown, she was the
daughter of the late Thaddeus and Sarah J. (Smith) Park. She first
married Clarence W. Crownover Feb. 18, 1921, at the Lutheran parsonage
in Huntingdon with Dr. Edmund Manges officiating. Mr. Crownover preceded
her in death Oct. 18, 1967. She then married Elmer W. Cramer Feb. 13,
1969, at Calvary Baptist Church in Huntingdon with the Rev. Richard
Myers officiating. He preceded her in death March 21, 1977. Surviving
are the following children: Jane Wall, Curwensville; Elise Whitsel, Mill
Creek; June Frain, Mill Creek; C. William "Bill" Crownover, Petersburg;
James "Jim" Crownover, Petersburg; and Nancy L. Wilson, Mill Creek.
There are 20 grandchildren, 34 great- grandchildren and eight
great-great- grandchildren. Also surviving are four step-children:
Harold Cramer, Mapleton; Loey Mentzer, Mill Creek; Donald Cramer, Mill
Creek; and Janet Kauffman, Kilgore, Texas. There are 13
step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Edna
Mentzer; a son, Ray E. Crownover; a stepson, Millard Cramer; and a
granddaughter, Judy Whitsel. Mrs. Cramer was the last surviving member
of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by three sisters and
brother. She was a member of the Mill Creek Baptist Church and a charter
member of the Women's Missionary Society of her church. She was employed
by the housekeeping department at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital,
Huntingdon, and later was an aide in the kitchen at Juniata College,
retiring, in 1967. Funeral services will be field Friday, July 21, at 10
a.m., at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev.
Jeffrey Winstead officiating, assisted by the Rev. Raymond Crownover.

Martha Elizabeth LOW, 79, of 700 W. Bel Air Ave., Aberdeen, Md., died
Monday, July 17, 2000, at Harford Memorial Hospital, Havre de Grace, Md.
Born Feb. 19, 1921, in Bellwood, she was the daughter of the late
William David and Ruth Augusta (Igou) Farber. She was married to Gail A.
Low, who preceded her in death 1980. Surviving are three children: Gail
E. Low, Cincinnati, Ohio; Ronald B. Low Sr., Pylesville, Md.; and
Barbara D. Blevins, Aberdeen, Md. There are ten grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren. One daughter, Naomi Low, preceded her in death.
Also surviving are three siblings: Archie Raymond Farber, Altoona; Mary
Grace Unger, Hollidaysburg; and Alta Pearl Garner, Clearfield. Two
brothers, Albert Elwood Farber and Charles Henry Farber, and a sister,
Ruth Esther Swailes, preceded her in death. Mrs. Low was a member of the
Edgewood Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Edgewood, Md. She was
an assembly line worker at the Bata Shoe Company in Belcamp, Md. and

Kenneth W. SNARE, 72, of Box 87, Williamsburg, R.R. 1, died unexpectedly
Monday morning July 17, 2000, at his residence. Born Dec. 27, 1927, in
Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Blaine and Freda M.
(Miller) Snare. He married Dawn (Haney) Locher Aug. 13, 1965, in
Huntingdon. Surviving are his wife, six sons and two daughters: Jeffrey
W. Snare, Huntingdon; Kenny D. Locher, Weirton, W.Va.; Richard H.
Locher, Anchorage, Alaska; Roger W. Locher, Williamsburg, R.R. 2; Corey
A. Snare, Williamsburg; Eric J. Snare, at home; Tammy L. Diller,
Lancaster; and Rosemary F. Flaig, Williamsburg. There are 14
grandchildren. Two brothers and three sisters survive: James F. Snare,
Huntingdon; Allen L. Snare, Georgia; A. June Grove, Lancaster; Donna
Shope, Alexandria; and Faye Peters, Huntingdon. Mr. Snare was preceded
in death by a brother, Carl B. Snare. He was a member of Emmanuel Bible
Church, Huntingdon, R.R. 4. He retired from Meadow Pride Dairies in the
Huntingdon area in 1992 and he had previously been employed by
Strickler's Dairy, Huntingdon, for many years. Mr. Snare attended the
Huntingdon area schools and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II,
serving in Germany in 1946, during post-war recovery. He enjoyed
hunting, fishing and working in his yard. Funeral services will be held

Edward B. RUPERT, 78, of 927 Mifflin St., Huntingdon, died Wednesday,
July 19, 2000, at 8:20 a.m., at his home. Born Oct. 3, 1921, in Burnham,
he was the son of the late Ralph Maxon and. Lizzie Jane (Ashman) Rupert.
He was united in marriage to Patricia J. Weir Aug. 16, 1947. Mrs. Rupert
survives at home, along with two sons: Timothy A. Rupert and David L.
Rupert, both of Huntingdon. There are two grandsons. He was the last
surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Rupert was of the
Protestant faith. He was a life member of the Brooklyn Fire Company of
Lewistown and Standing Stone Post No. 1754, VFW, and Frank P. Hommon
Post No. 24, American Legion, both of Huntingdon. He retired from Owens
Corning Fiberglas in Huntingdon in 1984, after 27 years of service in
various departments throughout the plant. Mr. Rupert was a World War II
veteran serving with the Headquarters Battery of the 939th Field
Artillery Battalion of the U.S. Army. He saw action in the GO 33 and 40
WD 45, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Rhineland, Northern Apennines and
Central European campaigns. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the
Croix de Guerre, American Defense Service Medal; and European-African
Middle Eastern Service Medal with five Bronze Stars. Funeral services
will be held Saturday, July 22, at 2 p.m., at the Robert E. Peters
Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Doyle H. Klinger officiating.
Interment will be made in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Friends may

Althea Jeanette STAKE, 90, a resident of the Shirley Home for the Aged,
formerly of Three Springs, R.D., died at 5:35 p.m. Wednesday, July 19,
2000, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Aug. 7, 1909, in
Clay Township, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Daniel
and Ada (Brumbaugh) Stake. She is survived by one daughter, Nancy V.
Stake, a resident at the Shirley Home for the Aged, and a brother, Emory
S. Stake, Orbisonia. Five brothers preceded her in death. Miss Stake was
a member of the Fairview Evangelical Church, Three Springs, R.D. During
her life, she was primarily a homemaker. Funeral services will be held
at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home,
Orbisonia, with the Rev. William Hughes officiating. Interment will be
made in the Fairview Cemetery, Three Springs, R.D. Friends may call at

Josephine R. GREEN, 95, a resident of Valley View Haven Nursing Home,
Belleville, died Monday, July 17, 2000, at 11:30 a.m. Born Feb. 19,
1905, in McConnellstown, she was the daughter of the late Elisha J.
Green and Alfaretta (Gallagher) Green Schuldt. She never married. The
last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death
by three brothers and one sister: James Green, Carl Miller Green, George
A. Greene, and Elizabeth Green, who died in infancy. Miss Green was a
member of the Huntingdon Presbyterian Church, Huntingdon, where she was
a member of the Presbyterian Women's Association. She retired from
Westab Blair Division, the present Mead Consumer and Office Products.
She was educated in the Huntingdon public schools. A lifetime resident
of Huntingdon County, she had lived at the nursing home for 16 years.
She enjoyed gardening and cooking. A funeral service was held at the
John B. Brown Funeral Home, Inc., 417 Washington St., Huntingdon,
Thursday, July 20. Interment was made in the Alexandria Presbyterian

Richard Stone REYNOLDS, 77, of 2403 Shadyside Ave., Huntingdon, died
Thursday, July 20, 2000, at 9:10 a.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital,
Huntingdon, following an extended illness. Born Feb. 28, 1923, in
Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Hamilton T. and Ruth (Stone)
Reynolds. He was united in marriage to Marcia Rae Jones March 25, 1944,
at St. Paul's Methodist Church, State College, with the Rev. John T. T.
Cummings, brother-in-law of the groom, officiating. Mrs. Reynolds
survives at home, along with a daughter and four sons: Sue Anne
Reynolds, Huntingdon; Richard S. Reynolds Jr., Evergreen, Colo.; David
H. Reynolds, Huntingdon; Michael W. Reynolds, Conifer, Colo.; and Thomas
J. Reynolds, New Castle. There are eight grandchildren. The last
surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by a
sister, Reba (Reynolds) Cummings, and two brothers, Dean H. Reynolds and
Hiram P. Reynolds. Mr. Reynolds was a member of St. John's Episcopal
Church, Huntingdon. He was a member of several professional
organizations, as well as the Frank P. Hommon Post No. 24, American
Legion, Standing Stone Post No. 1754, VFW, both of Huntingdon, and the
American Philatelic Society. He was an active member of the Huntingdon
community, serving for 18 years on the Sewer and Water Authority, and
for many years as chairman of the authority. He assisted with the design
and construction of the first Huntingdon treatment plant and supervised
the installation of many new and replacement water and sewer systems.
Mr. Reynolds retired in 1995 after more than 50 years as a partner in
H.T. Reynolds & Sons, Inc., a construction business. His firm developed
the Cedar Tree Manor, Shadyside and Hollywood sections of Huntingdon. He
supervised the construction of many school and municipal buildings
during the post World War II era. He also served as a volunteer adviser
to many school and municipal authorities. A 1941 honors graduate of
Huntingdon High School, he received his B.S. degree in civil engineering
from Penn State University in 1948. While attending Penn State, he was a
member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. During World War II, he served as an
officer with the U.S. Army Field Artillery, stationed near Trieste in
Northern Italy with the 88th Blue Devils Division. He graduated first in
his class from Field Artillery Officer Graduate School in Fort Sill,
Okla. A lifetime resident of Huntingdon County, he had lived at his
current residence for 45 years. Mr. Reynolds was also an active
volunteer with Boy Scouts and other youth organizations. He was an avid
hunter and fisherman. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday
July 23, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 212 Penn St., Huntingdon, with
the Rev. W. Thomas Wame III officiating. Interment will be made in the

Patricia A. JONES, 61, a resident of Falling Spring Nursing Home,
Chambersburg, formerly of Star Route, Neelyton, died at 4:20 p.m.
Thursday, July 20, 2000, at the nursing home. Born Feb. 6, 1939, in
Mountain Green, Metal Township, Franklin County, she was a daughter of
John W. Miller who survives at Spring Run, and the late Frances (Smith)
Miller. She was married to Donald E. Jones May 17, 1957, in Hagerstown,
Md. Mr. Jones survives at their Neelyton home, along with four children:
Penny Parsons, Blairs Mills; Larry Jones, Neelyton; Ronald Jones, Mount
Union;, and Daniel Jones, Neelyton. There are six grandchildren and one
great- granddaughter. Several brothers and sisters also survive: Betty
Kadle, Chambersburg; Roy Miller, Spring Run; Ray Miller, Shippensburg;
Miriam Gryer, Chambersburg; Marie Brenize, Myersville; Jim Miller,
Spring Run; and Joan Gamble, Shippensburg. Mrs. Jones was of the
Methodist faith. She was a homemaker. Funeral services will be held at
10:30 a.m. Monday, July 24, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home,
Orbisonia, with the Rev. Virginia Eminhizer officiating. Interment will
be made in the Neelyton Pine Grove Cemetery, Neelyton. Friends may call

William Nelson NEUDER, 64, of Baltimore, formerly of Huntingdon County,
died Sunday, July 9, 2000, in the University Hospital of Baltimore. Born
July 13, 1937, in Robertsdale, he was the son of the late James and Edna
Blanche (Foore) Neuder. He was first married to Rosealie Howard, to whom
he had the following children: James Neuder, Mack Neuder, Ricky Neuder,
Brenda and Clint Neuder, all of Baltimore. He later married Carlene
Locklear. Surviving are several step-children: Carlene, Frances and Eli.
There are ten grandchildren, Three brothers and three sisters survive:
Lester Ross Neuder, Harrisonville; Ephriam Neuder, Robertsdale area;
John Neuder, Saxton; Mary Parks, Doylesburg; Minnie Wolfe, Chambersburg;
and Alice Swope, Robertsdale. Two brothers and a sister, Edgar, Jimmy
and Elda, preceded him in death. Mr. Neuder attended schools in the
Broad Top and the Cooks area, where he was reared. His primary
occupation was as a house painter, and he also did other odd jobs. He
was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Baltimore. Funeral services
were held July 12, along with interment, in Baltimore.
Thelma M. RUTHERFORD, 76, of 50 Huey St., Allensville, died at 4:54 p.m.
Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at Centre Community Hospital, State College.
Born July 28, 1923, in Warriors Mark, she was the daughter of the late
Jesse and Francis I. (Johnson) Adams. She was united in marriage to
William H. Rutherford March 25, 1946. He preceded her in death July 16,
2000. Surviving are three children: Mrs. Lloyd (Anna Marie) Yoder,
Allensville; Mrs. Lloyd (Mary) Grubb, Huntingdon, R.R. 1; and Mrs.
Thomas (Karen) Kauffman, Huntingdon, R.R. 3. One sister, Mrs. George
(Ann) Smith, and a brother, Glen W. Adams, both of Chambersburg,
survive. There are six grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Faith Rutherford June 17,
1996; a son, Richard Allen Rutherford, May 30, 1948; and a
granddaughter, Lesley Yoder. She was also preceded in death by four
brothers and a sister: Lawrence Adams, Dean E. Adams, Calvin C. Adams
and C. Marie Kupetz. Mrs. Rutherford was a member of the Allensville
Presbyterian Church and she volunteered at the Allensville Fire Company
during festivals. Most of her life she helped on the family farm in
Trough Creek Valley. She also worked at Arrow Shirt Company in
Huntingdon and at R.S. Vogt, Allensville, retiring in 1986. Funeral
services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at the Allensville
Presbyterian Church, Allensville, with the Rev. Geoffrey Huish and the
Rev. Keith Kensinger officiating. Interment will be made in the Mountain

Russell W. GLASGOW, 86, of Spruce Creek died Monday, July 24, 2000, at
Tyrone Hospital. Born July 10, 1914, in Potter Township, he was a son of
the late Robt and Mary Elizabeth Klinefelter Glasgow. On Oct. 11, 1986,
he married Leona Drueckhammer Putt, who survives at home. An Army
veteran, he served during World War II from August 1944 to June 1946,
with the Military Police Platoon of the First Armored Division. He
earned an Army Occupation Medal, an European African Middle Eastern
Campaign Medal, a Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Medal.
He was an automotive machinist and master mechanic in the
heavy-equipment industry and also worked in the agricultural engineering
department at Penn State. He was a member of Warriors Mark United
Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee. He was also a member of
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 321 and American Legion Post 245, both in
State College, and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Police, Bald
Eagle Lodge 51. He was a former member of the Independent Order of Odd
Fellows. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards. In
addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, R. Robert Glasgow of
Lees-burg, Va.; five stepdaughters, Joan Dean of Annapolis, Md., Donna
Fleming of Warriors Mark, Betty Adams and Mary Holmes, both of Port
Matilda, and Eleanor Sprankle of Spruce Creek; three stepsons, Robert
Harpster of Sunbury, Kenneth Ewald of San Antonio, Texas, and Rev.
Edward Putt Jr. of Millheim; 13 stepgrandchildren; and 11
stepgreat-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Robert E. CARPER, 76, of Franklinville, rural Spruce Creek, died Sunday,
July 23, 2000, at home. Born Jan. 14, 1924, in Altoona, he was a son of
the late Edward Brooks and Naomi Ruth Soyster Carper. On Jan. 19, 1946,
in Cumberland, Md., he married B. Jean Nelson, who survives at home. A
Navy veteran, he served during World War II as a gunner's mate on
merchant ships. In 1972, he retired from the agricultural engineering
department at Penn State. He was a member of Warriors Mark United
Methodist Church, Mount Moriah Lodge 300 Free and Accepted Masons,
Scottish Rite Consistory and Jaffa Shrine of Altoona. He was treasurer
of Blair County Open Heart Club, president of Franklinville Cemetery
Association, Republican committeeman for Franklin Township, Huntingdon
County, and coached teener league in Warriors Mark. He was an avid
sportsman. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Connie
Sue Jensen of Bloomington, Minn.; three sons, Robert E. Jr. of Port
Matilda, Leroy Dean of Franklinville and Alan E. of Tyrone; four
sisters, Miriam Brown of Spruce Creek, Joan Jones of Dover, Jane Miller
of Franklinville and Donna Baughman of Warriors Mark; a brother, Gilbert
of Spruce Creek; 10 granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters. A
sister and two brothers preceded him in death. Visitation will be from 2
to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bruce E.

James William HOLZMAN, 86, of McClure died Friday, July 21, 2000, at
Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg. Born Oct. 20, 1913, in
Clementon, N.J., he was a son of the late James Jay and Florence Eliza
Wood Holzman. He married Elizabeth Warwick, who died in 1974. On April
24, 1976, he married Ellen Elizabeth Armstrong Kurtz, who survives at
home. He was a mechanical and industrial engineer. He was a member and
past master of Lewistown Lodge 203 Free and Accepted Masons. In addition
to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Marcia Lynne Reidel of
Port Townsend, Wash., and Bonnie Elizabeth Smith of Mitchellville, Md.;
two stepdaughters, Nancy Ellen Lavers of Danbury, Ct. and Shea Kurtz of
McClure; a stepson, Harold Richard Kurtz of McClure; 15 grandchildren;
six great-grandchildren; and extended family living in Centre County. He
was preceded in death by a stepson, Daniel Victor Kurtz, who died May 6,

Arlene W. MILLS, 86, of Carlisle, died at 2:50 p.m. Monday, July 24,
2000, at Manor Care Nursing Home, Carlisle. Born May 6, 1914, in
Orbisonia, she was a daughter of the late James L. and Annie Almeta
(Hatt) Clark. She was first married to Wilbert E. Mills, who preceded
her in death in 1964. She then married Cloyd B. Mills, who preceded her
in death in 1980 Surviving are four children: Marilyn G. Small,
Waynesboro; Donald A. Mills, McVeytown; Bernard L. Mills, Mechanicsburg;
and Ann L. Bolinger, New Cumberland. There are nine grandchildren and 17
great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Dorothy Shotsberger of Carlisle and
Audrey Hartman of Virginia, survive. Four brothers and two sisters
preceded her in death. Mrs. Mills was a member of the Pleasant Hill
United Methodist Church, Shade Gap, R.D. She was primarily a homemaker.

Mary E. (Stone) MOBERG, 95, of R.R. 1, Box 4, James Creek, died Monday,
July 24, 2000, at 4:10 p.m., at Allegheny Lutheran Home, Hollidaysburg,
following an extended illness. Born June 3, 1905, in Entriken, she was
the daughter of the late Ira and Ida Catherine (McCall) Stone. She was
united in marriage to Paul Robert Moberg Feb. 7, 1925, in Marklesburg,
by the Rev. Edward Utts. Mr. Moberg preceded her in death Dec. 26, 1955.
Surviving are a daughter and a son: Ruth Marie Grubb of Hollidaysburg
and Paul Allen Moberg, James Creek. There are six grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren. The last surviving member of her immediate family,
she was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers: Elva Stone,
Grace (Stone) Morningstar, Harvey Stone and Orville Stone. Mrs. Moberg
was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Marklesburg. She was a
member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Markiesburg Fire Company and the
auxiliary of the Lutheran Home. Educated in the public schools of
Entriken, she was primarily a homemaker. For many years, she served her
community as a dispatcher for the Markiesburg Ambulance and Fire
Departments. She had been a resident of Huntingdon County her entire
life and had lived at her James Creek home since 948. She enjoyed
quilting, needlework, flowers and gardening. A funeral service will be
held at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, James Creek, Thursday, July 27,
at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Elizabeth A. Hess officiating. Interment will
be made in the Reformed Church Cemetery, Markiesburg. Friends may call

Charlotte R. PARSONS, 98, formerly of Mount Union, died at 6:55 p.m.
Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, where
she had been a resident. She had been in failing health. Born July 24,
1902, in Three Springs, she was the daughter of the late Harvey E. and
Alice Jane (Hockenberry) Wilson. She was united in marriage to Louis
Fred Parsons, who preceded her in death May 1956. Surviving are three
sons: Glenn C. Parsons, Mount Union; Eugene W. Parsons, Indianapolis,
Ind., and Ned A. Parsons, Durham, N.C. There are seven grandchildren and
numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Samuel
L. Parsons, and the following siblings: Genevieve McHenry, Agatha Goss,
Susie Hampson, Margaret Samuels, Nora Rankin, Helen Bair, Walter Wilson,
Glenn Wilson and Elmer Wilson. Mrs. Parsons was a member of the First
United Methodist Church, Mount Union. She had been employed for many
years at the former Thelma and Rachel's Style Shop in Mount Union and
was also a hostess at the former Motel 22 Restaurant. She was a devoted
volunteer for the American Red Cross Bloodmobile in Mount Union for many
years and was also well known for her Christmas cookies. Private funeral
services will be held at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union,
with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Grundon officiating. Interment will be made in
the Mount Union Cemetery. There will be no public viewing or visitation.

Charles B. PROUGH, 49, of P.O. Box 197, Three Springs, died Monday, July
24, 2000, at 6:15 a.m., in the emergency room of J.C. Blair Memorial
Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Sept. 30,1950, in Huntingdon, he was the son
of the late Howard D. and Viola J. (Gift) Prough. He was united in
marriage to Susan C. Howard Feb. 24, 1968, in Baltimore, Md. Mrs. Prough
survives at home, along with a daughter, Mrs. Todd (Misty) Helman, St.
Thomas. There are three grandchildren. One son, Carl Richard Prough,
preceded him in death. Four siblings survive: Richard D. Gift of
Wilkes-Barre, Carol L. Shaefer of Three Springs, Donald L. Prough of
Miller's Island, Md., and George C. Prough of Three Springs. Two
sisters, Sharon R. Basford and Patsy Lou Prough, preceded him in death.
Mr. Prough was a member of the Pine Grill Pool League in Mount Union. He
was a construction worker for K. L. Mills Contracting and Supply of
Orbisonia. He loved fishing and enjoyed shooting pool. A memorial
service will be held at Mr. Prough's residence on Mudtown Road, for
family and friends Aug. 12, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Janice Black

Lorena D. NEARHOOF, 84, of 2 West 11th St., Tyrone, died Wednesday, July
26, 2000, at her home. Her death was unexpected. Born July 30, 1915, she
was the daughter of the late Blanche (Claar) and John Raymond Detwiler.
She was united in marriage May 19, 1938, to J. Raymond Nearhoof. He
preceded her in death March 19, 1982. Surviving are two daughters, Lois
Ann McFarland of Warriors Mark and Debora Meenan of Carlisle. There are
two granddaughters. Two sisters, Avis Carson of Grazierville and Janice
Curry of Florida, survive. Three sisters preceded her in death. Mrs.
Nearhoof was a member of the Spring Mount Church of the Brethren. She
retired from Murata Erie in 1978, after 13 years of service. Graveside
memorial services will be held Sunday, July 30, at 2 p.m., at the Spring
Mount Cemetery, with the Rev. Gregory Lake officiating. Funeral

Thomas A. SHORE, 33, of Path Valley Road, Spring Run, died Wednesday,
July 26,2000, at Chambersburg Hospital. His death was unexpected. Born
Feb. 16, 1967, in McConnellsburg, he was a son of David S. Shore of HC
75, Shade Gap, and the late Norma (Park) Shore. He was married to Evelyn
J. Shields of Shade Gap, who survives. Also surviving is a companion,
Bonnie Harnish, who survives at their home in Spring Run. Six children
survive: Joshua Shore, Joseph Shore, Jennifer Shore and Katie Shore, all
of Spring Run, and Melissa Harnish and Jessica Harnish, both of
Greencastle. Two brothers, Charles F. Shore of Shade Gap, and Michael D.

one half-sister: David S. Shore Jr., Charles E. Shore, Elijah J. Shore
and Lacea J. Shore, all of Shade Gap. Mr. Shore was of the Protestant
faith. He worked for Rosenberry and Sons Lumber, Inc., Fort Loudon.

Alice A. SCITTICATTE, 86, of Pennknoll Village, formerly of Six Mile
Run, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at Pennknoll Village. She died
following an extended illness. Born April 5, 1914, in Six Mile Run, she
was the daughter of the late Charles and Meda (Swope) Noel. She was
united in marriage to Emil Scitticatte July 20,1933, in Six Mile Run. He
preceded her in death May 14,1978. Two daughters, Leota Fink of
Osterburg and Jean Douglas of Bedford, survive. There are six
grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
One grandson preceded her in death. The last surviving member of her
immediate family, she was preceded in death by three sisters and two
brothers. Mrs. Scitticatte retired from the Arrow Shirt Company in
Huntingdon in 1976, after 10 years of service. Funeral services will be
held Saturday, July 29, at 3 p.m., at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel,
Saxton, with Pastor James West officiating. Interment will be made in
the Steele Cemetery, Hopewell, R.D. Friends may call at the funeral
chapel Saturday from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service.
James E. ELLIS III, 78, of Broad Avenue, Altoona, died Friday, July 28,
at 5:30 a.m., at Bon Secours Holy Family Regional Health System
following an extended illness. Born Jan. 28, 1922, in Chambersburg, he
was the son of the late James E. and Edith (Johnson) Ellis Jr. He was
united in marriage to Freda M. Brown Nov. 10, 1945, in Chambersburg. He
is survived by his wife at home. He is survived by a daughter, Kathy
DiFolco of Geeseytown, and a son, Gregory Ellis of Altoona. Four
grandchildren and one great- granddaughter also survive. He is also
survived by a sister, Betty Lou Lukinbaugh of Gettysburg. He was
preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. Mr. Ellis was a
member of the Broad Ave. United Methodist Church, Altoona, and was an
avid hunter and fisherman. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in the
Pacific Theater during World War II and retired from Kelly's Monuments,
Altoona. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 1, at 11 a.m., at
the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with Pastor Peggy Bonsell
officiating. Interment will be made at Old Methodist Cemetery,
Orbisonia. Friends may call at the funeral home between 6 and 9 p.m.

Doran D. BLACK Sr., 74, died Friday, July 28, 2000, at 11:54 a.m., at
J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital. He was born March 20, 1926, in
Robertsdale, the son of the late Jesse Herbert and Grace Loretta (Fleck)
Black. He was united in marriage Oct. 25, 1952, to Olive Rankin in
Winchester, Va., who preceded him in death Oct. 7, 1999. He is survived
by a son, Doran Black Jr. of St. Thomas, and a daughter, Donna
Brantlinger Black of State College. Four grandchildren also survive.
Also surviving is a brother, Gary Black of Saxton, R.R. Mr. Black was a
member of the Church of God in Hagerstown, Md. He was retired as a
mechanic at the Letterkenny Army Depot and was an avid hunter and
fisherman. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 31 at 11 a.m. at
the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with Pastor Don Simmons
officiating. Interment will be made at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Broad Top

Dr. Carl J. DANNEKER, 80, of Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Taylor
Highlands, Huntingdon, died July 24, 2000, in Sun City. Born April 26,
1920, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Mary and Charles
Danneker. He is survived by his wife, Lucy, of Sun City, Ariz., and two
sons: Dr. Dale Danneker of Albert Lea, Minn., and Michael Danneker, New
Britain, Conn. They are both Huntingdon Area High School graduates.
There are five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Dr. Danneker
was one of ten children. Four siblings survive. While in Huntingdon, he
and his wife were active members of the Huntingdon Country Club. He was
a 1942 graduate of the Pennsylvania Institute of Optometry,
Philadelphia. After his discharge from the U.S. Army in 1946, he opened
his optometry practice in Huntingdon, on Mifflin Street. He retired in
1981, and moved to Sun City, Ariz A memorial service will be held at St.
Clemens of Rome Church in Sun City, Aug. 2.
John Milton CAROLUS, 71, of 213 Overiake Dr., Inman, S.C., died Friday,
July 28, 2000, at 5:45 a.m., at Skylyn Place, Spartanburg, S.C. Born
July 14, 1929, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late John W. and
Louise (Lankard) Carolus. He was united in marriage to Alma Crawford,
who survives at their home in South Carolina. In addition to his wife,
he is survived by two daughters: Doris Louise Ritz of Inman, S.C., and
Myra Louise Bowling, Snow Shoe. There are one grandchild, four
step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. One sister, Evelyn
(Carolus) Cirko of Mapleton, and a brother, Edward Carolus of Altoona,
survive. Mr. Carolus was a retired corrections officer. He was a member
of the Inman United Methodist Church in Inman, S.C., the William P.
Spyker American Legion Post No. 520, Alexandria, and Mt. Moriah Masonic
Lodge, where he was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner. In 1949, he served
in the United States Air Force. Funeral services were held Sunday in
South Carolina at the Inman United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bart
Sistare officiating. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 2,
at the Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery, with the Rev. David L. Dearing
officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
the Inman United Methodist Church Guild Scholarship Fund, 27 Bishop St.,
Inman, S.C. 29349, or a local Parkinson's Disease Foundation. Funeral

Earl E. MORDER, 77, of HCR 71, Orbisonia, died at 4:30.p.m. Friday, July
28, 2000, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born May 4, 1923,
in Newton Hamilton, he was a son of the late Mahion and Nettie Pearl
(Moist) Morder. He was married to Geraldine V. Knepp, who preceded him
in death. Two children, Kenneth E. Morder of Huntingdon and Nancy J.
Harper of Mapleton, R.D. 1, survive. There are six grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren. Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in
death. Mr. Morder was a member of Church of God of Prophecy,
Shirleysburg, R.D. He also belonged to the Orbisonia-Rockhill Volunteer
Fire Department, was an ambulance driver and a member of the Fire
Police. During his life, he was employed as a truck driver and served in
the U.S. Army during World, War II. Funeral services will be held at 2
p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Church of God of Prophecy, Shirleysburg,
R.D., with the Rev. Richard Sauls officiating. Interment will be made at
Pine Glen Brethren Cemetery, Mattawana. Friends may call at the church
from 7 until 9 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Funeral Home, Orbisonia.
Seth A. MORTON, 22, of Newton Hamilton, died at 11:45 a.m. Friday, July
28, 2000, at Conemaugh Regional Medical Center, Johnstown. Born March
26, 1978, in McConnellsburg, he is survived by his father and
stepmother, George Jr. and Bonnie Morton of Newton Hamilton; his mother,
Debra Luhman of Clear Lake, Calif.; paternal grandmother, Geraldine M.
Madden, McConnellsburg; and matemal grandmother, Judith Wilde,
California; and a step-grandmother, Lorma McConaughey, Mount Union.
Three children survive: Logan Morton, Alexis Morton and Alison Morton,
all of Mount Union. Also surviving are five siblings: Leslie Ramos,
California; Layne Morton, Mapleton; Kimberley Golden, Warfordsburg;
Rachel Perri, Louisiana; and Shawna McConaughey, Newton Hamilton. One
nephew survives. Mr. Morton was employed by FCI Electronics, Mount
Union. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the
Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with the Rev. Dayton Sines
officiating. Interment will be made in the Haven Rest Memorial Park,
Shirleysburg, R.D. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 until 9
p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service on
Wednesday.
Berley William PARKS, 79, of R.D. 3, Box 142-D, Huntingdon, died
Saturday, July 29, 2000, at 5 a.m., at Centre Community Hospital, State
College. He had been in failing health since February 2000. Born Dec. 9,
1920, in Juniata Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late
Berley M. and Martha A. (Thompson) Parks. He was united in marriage to
Helen Sue Krieger Sept. 24, 1945. Mrs. Parks preceded him in death July
15, 1987. Two sons, Barry J. Parks of Huntingdon and Larry V. Parks of
Fort Myers, Fla., survive. There are two grandchildren. One brother,
Dean C. Parks of Piney Ridge, Huntingdon, R.D. 3, survives. Two
sisters,. Irene Grazier and Jean Souders, preceded him in death. Mr.
Parks was a member of the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Huntingdon.
He was a life member of the Frank P. Hommon No. 24, American Legion, and
the Standing Stone Post No. 1754, VFW. He was also a member of the
National Rifle Association. Mr. Parks was a partner in Parks Orchard,
Piney Ridge, Huntingdon, R.D. 3, from 1960 until his retirement in 1983.
He attended the Juniata Township public schools. During World War II, he
served in the U.S. Army in the Mediterranean Theatre as a fifth grade
technician with Company A of the 719th Railway Operating Battalion. He
had been a resident of Huntingdon County since birth and had lived at
his current residence since 1993. He was an active sportsman and enjoyed
woodcrafts. A funeral Mass will be held at Most Holy Trinity Catholic
Church, Sixth and Washington streets, Huntingdon, Wednesday, Aug. 2, at
10 a.m., with the Rev. Anthony J. Petracca officiating. Interment will
be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery, 245 Standing Stone Ave., Huntingdon.
Full military honors will be accorded at the graveside committal
service. A vigil service will be held at the John B. Brown Funeral Home,
Inc., Huntingdon, Tuesday, Aug. 1, at 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers,

John W. "Jack" BREIG, 78, of Indian Head, Md., formerly of the
Huntingdon area, died July 15, 2000, at Charles County Nursing Home in
La Plata, Md. Born July 27, 1921, in Great Cacapon, W.Va., he was the
son of the. late George V. and Louise (Atkinson) Breig. He is survived
by his wife, Marybelle (Scalia) Breig, whom he married at the, Most Holy
Trinity Catholic Church, Huntingdon, in 1947. Also surviving are a
daughter, Mrs. Richard P. (Mary Louise) Hankins, and two granddaughters.
One sister, E. Marie Clark, and a brother, Paul V. Breig, survive, along
with many nieces and nephews. His family moved to Mount Union in 1934,
where he attended high school. He was a veteran of World War II and
served 34 months in the U.S. Air Force. He was a former employee of
Pennsylvania Glass Sand Co., Mapleton. In 1966, he moved to Indian Head,
Md.,He was a machinist at the Naval Ordinance Station. Mr. Breig was a
life member of the American Legion Frank P. Hommon Post No. 24, charter
member of the Knights of Columbus in Huntingdon, and Third Degree member
of the John F. Kennedy Knights of Columbus in Accokeek, Md. He was a
member of St. Mary Star of the Sea in Indian Head. A funeral Mass was
celebrated July 19, in St. Mary Star of the Sea, with the Rev. Peacock
officiating, assisted by Thomas 0. Hill and deacon Johnny R. Barnes.
Interment was made at St. Charles Cemetery, Indian Head. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer's
Association or the Charles County Nursing Center.
M. Anna Belle (Harris) COFFMAN, 84, a resident of Woodland Retirement
Center, Orbisonia, formerly of Huntingdon, died Sunday, July 30, 2000,
at 1:53 p.m., at the retirement center. She had been in failing health
for the past two years. Born March 25, 1916, in Huntingdon, she was the
daughter of the late Jesse and Grace (Bousum) Harris. She married Albert
James Foore Jr. in 1934. He preceded her in death in 1951. She married
her second husband, Chalmer Coffman in 1953, and he preceded her in
death in 1965. Surviving are three children: Carol (Foore) Crone,
Huntingdon; Eldred Foore, Campbelltown; and Elaine (Foore) Arnold,
Thomasville. Also surviving are two Stepsons, Richard Coffman of
Huntingdon and Fred Coffman of Kings Port, Tenn. There are six
grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
One sister, Phyllis Leedom of Indiana, survives. She was preceded in
death by three brothers and one sister: Howard Harris, Clarence "Bud"
Harris ,Vera Edwards and Fred Harris. Mrs. Coffman was a member of the
Calvary Independent Baptist Church, Huntingdon. She was employed by the
Arrow Shirt Company for 11 years, from 1965 until 1976. She was later
self- employed as caregiver to numerous Huntingdon area residents. She
attended the Huntingdon public schools and was a resident of Huntingdon
County for most of her life. She had lived at her current residence
since February 1999. Mrs. Coffman enjoyed sewing and was an avid reader.
A funeral service will be held at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Inc.,
412 Washington St., Huntingdon, Wednesday, Aug. 2, at 1 p.m., with the
Rev. Dr. Thomas C. Coleman officiating. Interment will be made in the
Broad Top Cemetery, Broad Top City. Friends may call at the funeral home
from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service on Wednesday. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Independent
Baptist Church, Standing Stone Ave., Huntingdon, Pa 16652; or the

Raymond E. HURLEY, 83, of Heath, Ohio, formerly of McConnellstown, died
July 20, 2000, at his residence. Born Aug. 16, 1916, in Entriken, he was
the son of the late Harvey and Lavina (Maloney) Hurley. He is survived
by his wife of 63 years, Pearl (Scott) Hurley, whom he married Feb. 20,
1937. Also surviving are three daughters and a son: Mrs. Richard (Hazel)
Johns, Huntingdon; Mrs. James (Peggy) Curtis , Johnstown, Ohio; .Mrs.
Glenn (Donna) Cunningham, Newark, Ohio; and Dan Hurley, Gahanna. There
are nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Hurley retired
in 1980 from Owens Coming Fiberglas Technical Center after 35 years of
service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He enjoyed fishing
and hunting and was a member of the Heath Senior Citizens Club, Owens
Coming Retirees and the 25 Year Club. Funeral services for Mr. Hurley
were held July 23, in Heath, Ohio. Interment was made in the Wilson
Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart
Association or the Ohio Lung Association.
