Paris, 76, past NC resident, part owner of Joy Gardens
Joseph N. Paris, 76, of Salem, Va., formerly of New Castle, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, in Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Roanoke, Va.
Born April 25, 1929, in New Castle, he was a son of the late Louis and Mary Latess Paris.
Mr. Paris worked as an inspector and a quality assurance supervisor for the Rockwell Axel Division, retiring with 45 years of service.
He also had been part owner of the Joy Gardens Bar in New Castle.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Paris served as an aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of the Croton Dukes, the Moose Club, the Eagle's Club and the American Legion.
Mr. Paris is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Mari Anne and Ron Hoover of Virginia Beach, Va., Patti and Jerry Franklin of Jacksonville, Fla., and Linda and Jerry Baker of Ellwood City; his companion, Fran Morris of Salem, Va.; a brother, Henry Paris of New Castle and his former wife, Stella Klejnocki Paris of New Castle; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Paris was preceded in death by two sisters, Marian Lombardo and Sally Sylvester.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow in the William F. and Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Ave., New Castle.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Vitus Church, with the Rev. John Petrarulo officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m.
Interment will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.
The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform a military funeral service at the cemetery.

Tritschler, 53, belonged to Women of the Moose
Faith Marie Tritschler, 53, of Beaver Falls, formerly of Ellwood City, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at her residence.
Born July 10, 1951, in Ellwood City, she was a daughter of Audrey Mae Watson Wawrzynski of Ellwood City and the late Edward John Wawrzynski.
She was a nursing assistant for Home Health and attended Calvary Presbyterian Church, Beaver Falls.
Mrs. Tritschler was a member of the Ellwood City Women of the Moose.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband of four years, Jeffrey R. Tritschler; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joshua and Tara Morehouse of Rochester and Jacob and Kim Morehouse of Ellwood City; a daughter and her companion, Jaclyn Morehouse and Andrew Suders of Beaver Falls; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, William and Linda Wawrzynski of New Castle, Ronald and Robin Wawrzynski of Bonita, Calif., and Michael Wawrzynski of Ellwood City; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Audrey Patterson of Ellwood City, and Debra and Robert James Reid of Ellwood City; and five grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow in the Lutton Beaver Falls Funeral Home, 1117 Fifth Ave., Beaver Falls.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Paul Holland of the Calvary Presbyterian Church, Beaver Falls, officiating.

Herrmann, 65, beautician, member of Lakeview UM
Janet M. Herrmann, 65, of 5 Swartz Road, Sandy Lake Township, Stoneboro, Pa., died unexpectedly at 12:07 a.m. Sunday, June 13, 2004, in the emergency room of United Community Hospital in Grove City.
Born Feb. 24, 1939, in Alliance, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Lester and H. Eileen Hutmacher Shankleton. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, the late George S. Goodballet.
She was married April 20, 1963, to Roy W. Herrmann Sr., who survives.
Mrs. Herrmann graduated in 1959 from Sebring-McKinley High School and was a graduate of the Gerber Beauty Academy in Akron, Ohio.
She worked as a beautician for Jud's Beauty Shop in Sandy Lake for 27 years.
Mrs. Herrmann was a member of the Lakeview United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Lakeview United Methodist Women.
She also was a member of the Stoneboro Chapter 110 Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Herrmann enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing, playing cards and working with flowers. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Timothy C. Winder of Grove City; a son and daughter-in-law, Alan L. and Dori Herrmann of Stoneboro, Pa.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and James Cameron of Alliance, Pa., and Garnet "Cricket" and David Yaggi of Beloit, Ohio; a brother and sister-in-law, George S. Jr. and "KJ" Goodballet of Boardman, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Ryan, Jordan and Chloe Hermann of Stoneboro and Jenna and Kayla Winder of Grove City.
In addition to her parents and stepfather, Mrs. Herrmann was preceded in death by a son, Roy W. Herrmann Jr.

Assini, 92, legal assistant for Verlihay law office
Philip V. Assini, 92, of Koppel, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at his residence.
Born Jan. 15, 1912, in Koppel, he was a son of the late Fred and Barbara Assini. He was married Jan. 5, 1935, to the former Olga Naberezny Assini, who survives.
Mr. Assini was a retired legal assistant for the law office of George A. Verlihay and its predecessors for 70 years.
He was a member of Queen of Heaven Parish, St. Teresa Church, Koppel and the IMBS Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Frederick W. and Mea Assini of Cleveland, Ohio; a daughter, Kathleen Perry of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Anthony Assini of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Nanni of Cleveland, Vincentine Gioffre of Koppel and Edith and Joseph Sobeck of Chippewa Township; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, John Assini; two sisters, Angelina Fusco and Dorena Rossi; and a son-in-law, Bernard Perry.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, in Queen of Heaven Parish, with the Rev. Joseph Lemp, pastor, as celebrant.
Following the Mass, family and friends are invited to a celebration of Mr. Assini's life in the Queen of Heaven Parish social hall.
Interment will be private.

Brightshue, 79, resident of New Castle
Jessie I. Mitcheltree Brightshue, 79, of Friendship Street, New Castle, died at 5:53 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, in the Skilled Care Unit of Jameson South.
Born July 27, 1925, in New Castle, she was a daughter of the late Jesse C. and Dora Marie Brunswick Mitcheltree.
She was married for 62 years to Merle Brightshue Sr., who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mary E. Shoaff and Dori Moyer, both of New Castle; three sons, Gary C. Brightshue and Darrell C. Brightshue, both of New Castle, and Merle Brightshue Jr. of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico; two brothers, Richard C. Mitcheltree of St. Paul, Minn. and Floyd E. Mitcheltree of New Castle; a sister, Gladys L. Barnhouse of Bushnell, Fla.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Brightshue was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by a daughter, Merleen Marie Brightshue; a brother, George C. Mitcheltree; and two sisters, Mary and Pauline.
There will be no public visitation. Services will be announced at a later date by the Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208 N. Jefferson St., New Castle.
Interment will be in Oak Park Cemetery.

Brandt, 93, mother of EC resident, 4-H leader
Irene Wessel Brandt, 93, of Poland, Ohio, died at 3 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at Briarsfield Manor in Youngstown, Ohio.
Born Dec. 25, 1910, in Lorain, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Rose Kondroytn Wessel.
She was married Oct. 10, 1930, to Edwin Clare Brandt Sr., who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Brandt attended Bethel Presbyterian Church where she had been a member of the choir.
She also was a member of WCTU and was a 4-H leader, teaching sewing. She enjoyed flower gardening.
Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Timothy Brandt of Ellwood City, Edwin C. Jr. and Laura Brandt of Sun City, Ariz., and William Richard and Kathy Brandt of New Middletown, Ohio; and three daughters, Virginia Brandt Padgett and husband, Perry, of Fayetteville, Ga. and Susan Brandt and Adaline Brandt Lyden and husband, Tom, all of Salem, Ohio.
Mrs. Brandt was preceded in death, in addition to her parents and husband, by a daughter-in-law, Sally Brandt; a grandson, Jon Padgett; two sisters, Rose Dennis and Elizabeth Heaber; and three brothers, Michael, Frank and Joseph Wessel.

JOHN E. SYMCZAK
Symczak, 82, retired ARCO chemist, YMCA member
John E. Symczak, 82, of Chippewa Township, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, in his residence.
He was born Nov. 12, 1920, in Pittsburgh, to the late John and Aniela Symczak. He was married Sept. 25, 1948 to Carmen Gaeta Symczak, who survives.
Mr. Symczak graduated from David B. Oliver High School and later earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh in 1943.
He was a retired chemist from ARCO Polymers in Monaca, formerly the Koppers Company, where he worked for 37 years.
When the company closed temporarily in 1945, Mr. Symczak worked for a brief time at the Government Laboratories at the University of Akron in Ohio.
Mr. Symczak was a member of St. Mary's Church and later of Christ the Divine Teacher Church.
He was an avid golfer, a 20-year member of the YMCA and was the program chairman of his retiree's club.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Symczak is survived by five sons and four daughters-in-law, Paul and Debbie Symczak, Mark and Susan Symczak, Bruce and Jane Symczak, Roger and Gina Symczak and Tom Symczak; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Mark Blaustein and Marianne and Sam Kelly; six granddaughters; four grandsons; two sisters, Sophie Morrow and Jean Kazmier; two sisters-in-law, Catherine and Eleanor Gaeta; and four nieces and nephews.

Van Fossan, 85, B&W retiree, longtime resident of BF
Gertrude T. Mohrbacher Van Fossan, 85, of the Blair Personal Care Homes, formerly of Beaver Falls, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, in the Skilled Nursing Unit of Ellwood City Hospital, where she had been a patient since May 26.
Born Oct. 28, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Gertrude Douglass Tinsman.
She first was married to Lester E. Mohrbacher, who died in 1945. She later was married to Donald D. Van Fossan, who preceded her in death in 1988.
Mrs. Van Fossan retired in 1985 from Babcock & Wilcox Tubular Products after 28 years of service as a secretary. She first had worked in the continuous casting department and later in the welding fittings division.
A graduate of Beaver Falls High School and the Garfield Business School, Mrs. Van Fossan had previously worked at Keystone Driller and at Wolfe Electric. She and her mother also provided tax-filing services for many years.
During her working years, Mrs. Van Fossan was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Organization and the B&W Girl's Organization and enjoyed playing in their bowling leagues.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Beaver Falls.
Mrs. Van Fossan is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. G. William Mohrbacher of Beaver Falls and Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Mohrbacher of Stanford, Maine; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dougherty, 57, millwright at Republic Steel
David Edward "Doc" Dougherty, 57, of Chippewa Township, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at his residence after a long battle with cancer.
Born July 29, 1947, in Beaver Falls, he was a son of Faye Simpson Dougherty of Chippewa Township and the late Robert H. Dougherty. He was married for 33 years to Eleanor Ecimovic Dougherty, who survives.
A graduate of Beaver Falls High School Class of 1965, Mr. Dougherty retired from Republic Steel, Beaver Falls, with 37 years of service. He was a millwright and furnace operator.
He was Roman Catholic by faith. He loved to golf and was a faithful Steeler fan and an avid baseball fan.
In addition to his mother and his wife, he is survived by a son, Anthony David Dougherty of Pittsburgh; two daughters and a son-in-law, Stacy Lynn Bailey, at home, and Tina Marie and John Foster of Chippewa Township; four brothers and their spouses, Patrick and Ainslie Dougherty of Arvada, Colo., Robert and Carol Dougherty of Chippewa Township, James and Linda Dougherty of Beaver Falls and Michael Dougherty and his companion, Betty "B.J." of Beaver; a sister, Susan "Sis" Bouzek of Wheeling, W.Va.; a grandson; two stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Josephine Ecimovic; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Gregg Bailey in 2003; and his father-in-law, Stephen Ecimovic in 1972.

Elizabeth Gambino Tolomeo, 87, of Cranberry Township, formerly of Penn Hills and Ellwood City, died at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, in Cranberry Place Nursing Home.
Born March 5, 1917, in Ellwood City, she was a daughter of the late Vincent and Erina DiFalco Gambino.
She was married July 15, 1942, to Nicholas Tolomeo, who preceded her in death in 2000.
A 1935 graduate of Lincoln High School, Mrs. Tolomeo was a homemaker and, while living in Ellwood City, was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Irene and Tony Guerrera of Ellwood City and Nicolette and Ronald Germain of Prospect; a son, Vincent Tolomeo of San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Frances Dattilo of Brookline, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Tolomeo was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosalie Tolomeo in 1991; two sisters, Sylvia Gambino of 2002 and Virginia Ionadi; and two brothers, Ernest Gambino in 2002 and Albert Gambino in 2004.

David B. Carothers, 74, of Harmony, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, in his home.
Born June 8, 1930, in Ellwood City, he was a son of the late David R. and Anna Koach Carothers.
He was married March 16, 1991, to Ann L. Carothers, who survives.
Mr. Carothers was a member of the North Way Christian Community in Wexford and had worked for Billco Manufacturing for more than 40 years.
He also was a U.S. Air Force veteran and enjoyed golfing and music.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three daughters, Melinda Harold of Pittsburgh, Diane DeFreese and Donna Robinsky, both of Alabama; four sons, Mark Carothers and Dan Carothers, both of Ellwood City, Kenny Endler of Harmony and Doug Carothers of Butler; two brothers, Merlin Carothers of California and Jerry Carothers of Kentucky; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the North Way Christian Community, Route 19, Wexford.
Private interment will be in St. Mark's Lutheran Cemetery, Franklin Township.

Eiler, 79, WW II veteran, American Legion member
Clyde E. "Bud" Eiler, 79, of New Brighton, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, in the VA Medical Center, Butler.
He was born July 19, 1924, in New Brighton, to the late Clyde E. and Gladys Baker Eiler.
He was married to Mable I. Hoschar Eiler, who survives.
Mr. Eiler was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post 19 in New Brighton.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gary Eiler, Wade and Cheryl Eiler, and Robert and Leslie Eiler, all of New Brighton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Marilyn Snedeker and Gary Glass of New Brighton and Daryl and James Dougherty of Wampum; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Janet Eiler of Beaver Falls; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jeanie and Charles See of East Palestine, Ohio, Hazel and Paul Farkas of Beaver Falls and Janice Bullock of North Carolina.
Mr. Eiler was preceded in death by a son, Orin Ray Eiler; a brother, William Eiler; and a sister, Evelyn Kellner.

Hahn, 66, Korean veteran, Mico Industries retiree,
Frederick F. Hahn, 66, of Frew Road, Slippery Rock Township, Ellwood City, died Saturday, June 12, 2004, in the Ellwood City Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Born Dec. 24, 1937, in Ellwood City, he was a son of Frederick G. and Zelma Marie Derrow Hahn of Sharon, Pa.
His wife of 44 years, Rose Pasquale Hahn, survives him.
Mr. Hahn retired Feb. 3, 1999 from Mico Industries where he worked as a welder.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.
Mr. Hahn belonged to the Western Pennsylvania Retreads International Motorcycle Group and enjoyed gardening, hunting and riding motorcycles.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Hahn is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Dennis Brommer of Enon Valley; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Carl and Sallie Hahn of Aiken, S.C., and Tim Hahn of Boardman, Ohio; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Charles and Freida Hahn McMath of Hubbard, Ohio, and Kathy Marie Hahn of Hickory, N.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, David Lee and June Hahn of Bergen, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.

Dorothy B. Hall, 90, of New Castle, formerly of Zelienople, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Golden Hill Nursing Home, New Castle.
Born May 13, 1914, in Perry Township, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Elsie Myers Marshall.
Her husband, Clyde A. Hall, preceded her in death on March 16, 1962.
Mrs. Hall was a member of Grace Church in Harmony.
Surviving are three sons, Leroy Hall and Clyde Hall, both of Lancaster Township, and Don Hall of Volant; three daughters, Alice Short of Lancaster Township, Mary White of Cottonwood, Ariz. and Rita Hahn of Harmony; two brothers, Irvin Marshall of Harmony and Clinton Marshall of Fombell; three sisters, Marjorie Knauff of Zelienople, Gladys Faull of Ellwood City and Annabelle Young of Aliquippa; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

WILLIAM W. PATTON
Patton, 74, farmer, member of 1st UP Church of Darlington
William W. Patton, 74, of Friendship Ridge, Beaver, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004.
Born March 28, 1930, in the residence of his Darlington Township farm, he was a son of the late William A. and Mae Walker Patton.
He was married for 52 years to Patricia Stockdale Patton, who survives.
Mr. Patton was the valedictorian of the Darlington High School Class of 1948 and also played on the school's first ever football team, serving as captain his senior year.
A lifelong self-employed farmer, he also worked for R.H. Murray Feed Mill in East Palestine, Ohio, Culligan Water Conditioning in Beaver and later as a school bus driver for McCarter's Transit.
Mr. Patton was a member and trustee of the First United Presbyterian Church in Darlington.
An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching the Steelers, Pirates and the Blackhawk Cougars.
A masterful gardener, Mr. Patton enjoyed sharing his produce with friends and those in need. He also loved his land and his animals, but his greatest pleasure was being surrounded by family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are five daughters and four sons-in-law, Beverly and Emmery Rabovsky, Joyce and Dave Ledford, Linda and Herb Rawding, Sharon and John Izotic and Carolyn Barger; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Sallie Ferris Patton; several grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and an aunt.
Friends will be received from noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow in the Hill & Kunselman Funeral Home, 3801 Fourth Ave., College Hill, Beaver Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the First United Presbyterian Church of Darlington, with his pastor, the Rev. C.F. Hoffman, officiating.

Swarmer, 46, Catholic by faith, worked at Kenny Ross
Rosalia A. "Lea" Swarmer, 46, of North Sewickley Township, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, in her home.
Born March 25, 1958, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of Dee Katz of Penn Hills and the late Gino Billante.
She was married to Gregory J. Swarmer, who survives.
Mrs. Swarmer was Roman Catholic by faith and had been employed at Kenny Ross Chevrolet in Zelienople.
Surviving, in addition to her mother and husband, are three daughters, Bianca LoVerde and Mrs. Michael (Andrea) Reams, both of North Sewickley Township, and Mrs. Chris (Amanda) Andrews of Pittsburgh; two sons, Andrew Swarmer of Virginia and Branden Swarmer of North Sewickley Township; a sister, Staci Kohler of Mount Pleasant, Pa.; a grandson; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces.
In addition to her father, Mrs. Swarmer was preceded in death by a brother, Nunzio Billante in 1998.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Hill & Kunselman Funeral Home, 3801 Fourth Ave., College Hill, Beaver Falls.

Naticchioni, 77, U.S. Steel retiree, WW II veteran
Earl A. Naticchioni, 77, of 315 Allenby St., Ellwood City, died at 12:37 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, in the Ellwood City Hospital.
He was born July 27, 1926, in Ellwood City, to the late Antonio and Fannie Regoli Naticchioni. He was married July 31, 1948, to Emma Mancini Naticchioni, who survives.
Mr. Naticchioni retired in 1974 from the former Ellwood City Works of U.S. Steel, where he worked for 32 years in the accounting department.
He later worked as a guard for the Ellwood City Hospital from 1978 to 1990.
Mr. Naticchioni was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served as a private first class in the company E 23rd Infantry Regiment from Nov. 20, 1944 to Oct. 30, 1945.
A 1944 graduate of Lincoln High School, he was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish, Purification BVM Church, where he served as an usher for many years.
Mr. Naticchioni was a Meals on Wheels volunteer and was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge 93 and the SOI 608.
He also belonged to the National Tube Industrial Bowling League, the Beaver Valley Ten Pin League and the Ellwood City Moose bowling league.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Naticchioni is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyne and Brian Holupka of Forrest Hills, Pa., and Marilyn and Dennis Bayer of Peters Township, Pa.; a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony F. and Diane Naticchioni of Kennesaw, Ga.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Armond Naticchioni; and a sister, Theresa Naticchioni.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, 309 Spring Ave., Ellwood City, where a prayer vigil will be held tomorrow afternoon.

DONALD L. KALAJAINEN
Kalajainen, 71, PAW retiree, founded golf outing and 5K
Donald L. Kalajainen, 71, of 956 Old Princeton Road, New Castle, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, in his residence.
He was born in New Castle to the late Matthew and Mabel Thompson Kalajainen.
He was married Sept. 1, 1951, to Joann S. McConahy Kalajainen, who died April 5, 2001.
Mr. Kalajainen retired in 1991 after 42 years of service with the Pennsylvania American Water Company.
A 1950 graduate of Shenango High School, he was a member of the Castlewood Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.
Mr. Kalajainen coordinated the Kalajainen Klassic 5K Run/Walk in memory of his wife, Joann.
He also was the founder of the Kalajainen Klassic Golf Outing, which raised money for cancer research.
Mr. Kalajainen enjoyed golf, woodworking and spending time with his family.
Surviving are four daughters and two sons-in-law, Janet Kalajainen-Pomerico and her husband, Louis, of New Castle, Lauri Kalajainen of Pittsburgh; Sherry and Carl Lempke of Beaver Falls; and Joy Kalajainen of Toronto, Ontario; two brothers, William and Robert Kalajainen, both of New Castle; a sister, Carol Fontanesi of New Castle; and five grandchildren, Dean, Ciara and Alyssa Pomerico and Shauna and Tiana Lempke.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Kalajainen was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Kalajainen.

Boren, 83, worked as straightener at B&W
Clifford E. Boren, 83, of 105 Circle St., Franklin Township, died at 1:25 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2004, in the Ellwood City Hospital.
He was born Sept. 8, 1920, in New Brighton, to the late Emery and Esta Boyd Boren. He was married Dec. 30, 1950, to the former Vivian Cunningham, who died Jan. 2, 1998.
Mr. Boren retired in 1983 with 43 years of service from Babcock and Wilcox Tubular Co. in Beaver Falls, where he worked as a straightener.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a corporal with Co. A 207th Engineer Combat Battalion, 45th Infantry Division from Dec. 11, 1943, to Feb. 3, 1946. He was in the Battles of Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.
A member of Holy Redeemer Parish, he was also a life member of Ellwood City VFW Post 252.
He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Beth Boren of York, Pa.; a daughter, Barbara Sheehan of Franklin Township; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Main; and a brother, Richard Boren.
At Mr. Boren's request, there will be no visitation.
A private blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, 309 Spring Ave., Ellwood City.
Interment will be in Holy Redeemer Cemetery.

Maietta, 63, timekeeper at B&W, horse trainer
Joseph A. Maietta, 63, of 520 Second St., Ellwood City, died at 1:53 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004, at The Medical Center, Beaver.
Born June 6, 1941, in Ellwood City, he was a son of Virginia Pertile Maietta of Ellwood City and the late Michael F. Maietta.
A 1959 graduate of Lincoln High School, Mr. Maietta was a self-employed horse trainer. He also owned horses and was a horse broker. He formerly worked as a timekeeper at the Babcock and Wilcox Company, Wallace Run plant, and was also a co-owner with his father of the Ellwood Bottling Company.
He was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph T. and Diedre Maietta of Orlando, Fla.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Debbie and Rich Botti of Ellwood City, Jayne and Dave Michlich of Mesa, Ariz. and Judi Maietta of Kissimmee, Fla.; a brother, Michael V. Maietta of Linesville, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and a special friend, Mary Gasper of Beaver Falls.

Polovina, 91, retired chef, auditor for Ellport Borough
Jennie Polovina, 91, of 321 Martin Ave., Ellport, died at 12:10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, in the Ellwood City Hospital.
Born July 7, 1913, in Grantown, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Rada and Rose Butsak Polovina.
Ms. Polovina worked for 35 years as a chef in the executive dining room of the former Ellwood Works of U.S. Steel, retiring in 1974.
She also had been an auditor for Ellport Borough.
A 1929 graduate of Lincoln High School, Ms. Polovina was valedictorian of her graduating class.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Ellport where she was a member of St. Mary's Altar Society and also served as treasurer, among other positions.
Ms. Polovina was a member of the Ellwood City Hospital Auxiliary and was active with the American Cancer Society.
Surviving are three nephews, Timothy Polovina of Jupiter, Fla., Michael S. Polovina of Arlington, Va. and David G. Polovina of Indiana, Pa.; a great-nephew, Jordan Polovina of Bolder, Colo.; and a sister-in-law, Betty Polovina of Ellport.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Polovina, in 1991.

Humphrey, 66, YSU graduate, former Ellwood City resident
James R. Humphrey, 66, of Ennis, Texas, formerly of Ellwood City, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at his home.
Born July 3, 1938, in Ellwood City, he was a son of the late John Sherman and Dorothy Elizabeth Humphrey.
He was married for over 40 years to Catherine Humphrey, who survives.
Mr. Humphrey earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a master's degree in business administration from Youngstown State University.
He was employed for 15 years as the plant manager at Ennis Extruded.
Mr. Humphrey was a member of the Young of Heart Sunday school class at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Ennis.
He obtained his life masters in bridge and enjoyed the game immensely.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Sharron and Randy Korensek of Ennis, Sherry and Dave Lucas of Austin, Texas, Stephanie and Brian Huckaby of Red Oak, Texas, and Stacey and Dwain Bobalek of Ennis; two brothers, Donald Humphrey of Ellwood City and Thomas Humphrey of Slippery Rock; two sisters, Patricia Swick of Ellwood City and Linda Newhouse of East Palestine, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the Tabernacle Church Worship Center in Ennis.

Marlene "Joy" Yeck, 52, of Ellwood City, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003.
She was born Feb. 21, 1951, in Ellwood City, to the late Herbert and Martha Gerard Bookamer.
She was married for 33 years to Robert A. Yeck, who survives.
Mrs. Yeck attended the First Baptist Church in Ellwood City.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Joe Black of Laurel Township; two brothers, Herbert and Gary Bookamer, both of Ellwood City; three sisters, Barbara Rhodes of North Sewickley Township, Ruth Thompson of Ellwood City and Karen Marchiegiano of Texas; and five grandchildren.
Private visitation and funeral services will be held tomorrow in the Huntsman Rochester Funeral Home, 502 Adams St., Rochester.
STEVE MESKO
Mesko, 85, longtime career in trucking industry
Steve Mesko, 85, of 481 State Route 288, Franklin Township, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born Jan. 8, 1918, in Eckley, Pa., to the late Andras and Mary Myjar Mesko.
He was married Jan. 10, 1942, to Rose Irene Markus Mesko, who survives.
Mr. Mesko was a diesel mechanic and owned and operated a long-distance trucking company.
A truck driver for 65 years, he worked for European Bakery and for the Ellwood City Forge.
Mr. Mesko was a member of the Church of God International in Elyria, Ohio.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Agnes and Ronald Stuck of Wampum; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Stephen A. and Jane Mesko of Wayne Township, James and Peggy Mesko of New Castle and Joseph G. Mesko at home; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Loretta Mesko of Uvalde, Texas; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and John Cutri of Black Canyon, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Mesko was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Nye, Anne Vargo and Irene Swoger.
Funeral services were held Friday morning in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, 309 Spring Ave., Ellwood City, with the Rev. Wayne Hendrix of Elyria, Ohio, officiating.
Interment was in Clinton Cemetery.

Mr. Mesko also had one of the first delivery trucks in Ellwood City.

Sicard, 79, employed by American Plating
Doris E. Sicard, 79, of Bridge Street, Ellwood City, died at 9:45 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2004, in the Ellwood City Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born July 21, 1924, in Wayne Township, to the late Frederick and Ethel Mae Cunningham Houk. She was married on Aug. 21, 1948, to Leo E. Sicard, who survives.
Mrs. Sicard was employed at American Plating in Ellwood City for a number of years.
She was a life member of Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church and was a charter member and past president of Wayne Township Fire Department Auxiliary.
She enjoyed square dancing. Her labors of love, which included cooking and baking, were graciously enjoyed by many for years.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Sicard is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Barry W. and Colleen Sicard of Naples, Fla., and Terry L. and Cathy Sicard of Chippewa Township; a daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Brian Presky of Ellwood City; and four grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Allan W. Houk.

Walter W. Bingle Jr., 87, of 501 Choctaw Ave., Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Ellwood City, died Sunday, July 18, 2004, in his residence.
Born Sept. 19, 1916, in Ellwood City, he was a son of the late Walter I. and Daisy Mae Cunningham Bingle.
His wife, the late Dorothy Hinkle Bingle, preceded him in death in 1985.
Mr. Bingle retired in 1975 from the former Ellwood Works of U.S. Steel where he worked for 40 years in the carpentry shop.
He was a member of Bell Memorial Church while living in Ellwood City and enjoyed model trains and boating.
Mr. Bingle is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and John Suite of North Sewickley Township; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Terry and Jeanie Bingle of Beaver Falls and Kenneth J. Bingle of Lakeland, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Donna Bingle of Ellwood City; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Bingle was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Deets.

KATHERINE C. THOMAS
Thomas, 73, former resident, Chatham College graduate
Katherine C. Thomas, 73, of Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Ellwood City and Patterson Heights, Pa., died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004.
Born June 3, 1931, in New Castle, she was a daughter of the late Irene and Frank Coleman Sr.
Her former husband, Lloyd W. "Pete" Thomas, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Thomas graduated from New Brighton High School and obtained a nursing degree from Chatham College.
She spent the next 30 years traveling with her family throughout the United States and overseas, living in New York, Washington, D.C., Florida, Texas, Illinois, California, The Philippines and Germany.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathleen A. O'Donnell and Karen A. Dettman; a son, Lloyd "Pete" Thomas II; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Frank (Helen) Coleman and Mrs. Robert (Eleanor) Coleman, both of Patterson Township; and six grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank A. Coleman Jr. and Robert "Costy" Coleman.
Private services will be held in California.
RUTH S. EVERLINE McKINLEY
McKinley, 101, member of Mahoningtown 1st Christian
Ruth S. Everline McKinley, 101, of RD 7, Mahoningtown, New Castle, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, in the Indian Creek Nursing Home, following an extended illness.
Born April 10, 1903, in Shaft, Md., she was a daughter of the late Enoch and Anna Mary Weinald Wade.
She was first married to Harmon M. Everline, who died in 1940. She later was married to Robert Lee McKinley, who preceded her in death in 1990.
Mrs. McKinley was a member of the First Christian Church in Mahoningtown.
She is survived by a stepson; a stepdaughter; three daughters-in-law; eight grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. McKinley also was preceded in death by three sons, Robert, John and Howard Everline; and six brothers and three sisters, as she was the last of her family.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main St., Wampum.
Visitation also will be held prior to the service at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Salem Church of Christ in Frostburg, Md., with the Rev. Margie Iddings officiating.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park, Maryland.
