Sandra E. Bachman, 60, wife of David E. Bachman, of RR1 Mifflintown, died Monday, July 1, 2002 at Centre Community Hospital, State College.

BELLEVILLE - Helen L. Bailey, 74, of 228 Hartzler Drive, Belleville, died at 3:15 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Valley View Haven, Belleville.
Born July 12, 1927, in Reedsville, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Stella (Gordon) McClellan. Her husband, Arthur A. "Art" Bailey, whom she married on Sept. 8, 1946, preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 2000.
Surviving are: children, Diana L. Bailey, Hampton, VA, Mrs. Gary (Donna) Schwenzer, Yardley, James A. Bailey, Yeagertown and Mrs. Michael (Pamela) Kanady, Port Matilda; a sister, Anna Roan, Burnham; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Shank, and three brothers, William, Frank and Charles McClellan.
She was homemaker. She was a member of Lewistown Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where she also taught Sunday School, and a volunteer at Lewistown Christian Academy for a number of years.
Her funeral service is at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lewistown Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, with the Rev. John T. Looney officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

BLACKSBURG, VA - Ruth N. Bailey, 88, of Blacksburg, VA and formerly of 626 S. Main St., Lewistown, died at 5:30 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2002, at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 3, 1914, in Windber, she was the daughter of the late Samuel B. and Bertha (Rhodes) Phenicie. Her husband, Harry J. Bailey, preceded her in death in 1972.
Surviving are: a daughter, Norrine Bailey Spencer, and son-in-law, Edward F. D. Spencer, Blacksburg, VA; a sister, Jane L. Shields, Valley St., Lewistown; a brother, Frederick E. Phenicie, Grand Parkway, Lewistown; and one grandson, Andrew Bailey Spencer, Fort Polk, LA.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
She was a homemaker.
She was a founding member of Calvary Bible Church and a member of the Lewistown Hospital Auxiliary and Rotary-Anns of Lewistown.
Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Roger R. Reece officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery.
There will be no public viewing, but family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Violet J. Bair
MCVEYTOWN - Violet J. Bair, 82, of State Route 103 South, McVeytown, died at 8:05 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2002, at her home.
Born Nov. 26, 1919, in Cambria County, she was a daughter of the late James "Guy" Goshorn and the late Luvania (Moore) Goshorn Daniels. Her husband, Mearl E. Bair Jr., whom she married March 3, 1942, died in combat on March 3, 1944, at Anzio beachhead while serving with Company A of the 4th Ranger Battalion, Fifth Army, during World War II.
Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Zane (Luvania) Renninger, McVeytown R.D.; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Wojnarek, Bethany Village, Horseheads, NY, and Mrs. Virginia Jury, McVeytown, R.D.; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter, Luvania Renninger; and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Austin Goshorn, and three infant brothers.
She was a former cook at the Beacon Lodge Camp for the Blind, and the Newton Hamilton United Methodist Training Camp.
She was a member of the Newton Hamilton United Methodist Church, and a former member of the Ryde Otterbein United Methodist Church for thirty years. She was a longtime children's Sunday School teacher.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Robert A. Brown Sr. officiating. Interment will be in Newton Hamilton Cemetery.

Constance N. Baker
LEWISTOWN - Constance N. Baker, 65, of 204 Lombardy Circle, Lewistown, died at 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at Lewistown Hospital.
Born Aug. 28, 1936, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of late Clair B. and Mary (Barnett) Noerr. Her husband, Gale I. Baker, whom she married on July 17, 1965, survives.
Also surviving are a son, Brian D. Baker and his wife, Hope, of Reedsville; a granddaughter, Katie May Baker of Reedsville; and a brother, Richard C. Noerr Sr. of Lewistown.
She was a homemaker. Earlier in life she taught history and biology at Lewistown High School.
She was a member of the Lewistown Presbyterian Church, active with the Panorama Newsletter of the church. She was also a member of the Mifflin County Historical Society and volunteered as a host at the McCoy House in Lewistown. She was a member of the Towpath Naturalist Society and the Republican Women of Action.
She graduated from Lewistown High School in 1954 and enjoyed dinner outings with Lewistown High School Class of 54 Girls.
She graduated from Gettysburg College in 1958 and was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority and the Historical Preservation Club. She played Ladies Field Hockey and Ladies Basketball while at the college.
She established the Clair B. and Mary E. Noerr Memorial Award at Gettysburg College, of which there have been several local recipients.
She loved animals and the companionship of her Airedale dogs. She enjoyed travel, dining, computers, reading and Civil War History.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Rev. Bruce A. Hinderliter officiating. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown.
There will be no public viewing but family will receive friends from 1 p.m until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Henry E. Baker
MCCLURE - Henry E. Baker, 83, of McClure, passed away at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at Rolling Hills Manor, where he had been a resident for the past eight weeks.
Born Dec. 14, 1918, in West Beaver Township, Snyder, he was a son of the late Edward and Edna (Weader) Baker. In 1945, he married Jessie I. Dillman, who survives.
Surviving are: step-son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Sandra Goodling, McClure; two grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a step-great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a step-sister, Mary Darby.
Early in life he was a sewing machinist at the former Arrow Shirt Factory and later he was a self-employed carpenter, working many years for Fisher's Plumbing and Heating and many others.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was awarded a good conduct medal and a European African Eastern Service medal with five bronze stars.
He enjoyed fishing, trapping and hunting.
He was a member of American Legion Post 942, McClure.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the McClure Chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes, North Brown Street, McClure, with the Rev. Donald Wise officiating. Interment will be in Black Oak Ridge Cemetery, RR2 McClure, where graveside military services will be provided by American Legion Post 942, McClure.

Richard R. Baker
BURNHAM - Richard R. Baker, 74, of Lot 1, Freedom Avenue Court, Burnham, died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at his residence.
Born Dec. 11, 1927, in Burnham, he was the son of the late Guy M. and Marie E. (Ehrenzeller) Baker. His wife, Patricia J. (Allen) Baker, whom he married on Dec. 5, 1970, survives.
Also surviving are a son, Richard E. Baker of Reedsville; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Keith A. Baker, on Feb. 12, 2000 and a brother, Donald Guy Baker on Sept. 3, 1983.
Earlier in life he worked at Beaver Bros. Bakery and Burnham Hardware, and was merchandise manager at WT Grant. He was also the owner of Bakers Market, Reedsville, for over 20 years.
He belonged to the Merchant Marines during World War II.
He was a 1945 graduate of Juniata High School.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Little Valley Presbyterian Cemetery, Vira, with Rev. Kenneth Longfield officiating.
A viewing will be held 7-9 p.m. today at Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville.

Robert D. 'Bob' Baker
MCCLURE - Robert D. 'Bob' Baker, 78, of McClure, died at 3:38 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital, after being stricken at home.
Born Oct. 24, 1923, in McClure, he was the son of the late Dorsie H. C. and Alma L. (Narehood) Baker. His wife, Mary Jane Mayhue, whom he married on Dec. 31, 1949, survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Sandra Kay Folk of Douglasville; three grandchildren, Doug, Diane and Tracie; three great-grandchildren, Laura, Chris and Ashley; two step-grandsons, Ray and William Lee; two step-great-grandchildren, Isaac and Rebekah; two sisters, Betty Wetzel of Pittsfield, MA and Margaret Nale of Seven Lakes, NC; and a brother, Donald "Jiggs" Baker of McClure.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Dwayne Peffer, in 1962; a brother, Theodore "Ted" Baker, in 1996; and a step-daughter, Mary Lee Johnston, in 1993.
He was baptized in Trinity Lutheran Church, McClure.
He worked as a truck driver for Nevamar Corp., Long Beach, CA, retiring in 1978 with 17 years of service. Prior to that, he had been employed by Standard Steel.
He served as an air mechanic instructor in the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1943.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the McClure Chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes, North Brown Street, McClure, with Rev. Beth Stone officiating.
Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Rose Mae Baker
LEWISTOWN - Rose Mae Baker, 85, of 180 Old Stagecoach Road, Lewistown, died at 10:55 p.m., Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at her residence.
Born Oct. 19, 1916, in Somerset County, she was the daughter of the late Charles M. and Olive (Young) Dickson. Her husband, Alfred H. Baker, died Feb. 20, 1989.
Surviving are: five children, Beverly Zeiders of Lewistown, Mrs. William (Fay) Headings of Buffalo, NY, Mrs. James (Kay) Cornell, Ronald L. Baker, and John Paul Baker all of Lewistown; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: one brother, two sisters, a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter and a great-grandson. She is the last of her immediate family.
She was employed as a sewing machine operator for 24 years at Juniata Garment, later at Lewistown Sportswear.
She was a Presbyterian by faith.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at the Juniata Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Zorn officiating. Interment will be in the Juniata Memorial Park Cemetery.

MANHEIM - Ruth F. Baker, 66, of 316 Oak Tree Road, Manhaim, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Essa Flory Hospice Center, Lancaster, after a brief illness.
Born in Belleville, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Saloma B. Yoder. Her husband, Carl W. Baker,

Yecker Jr., Lititz; five brothers, Emanuel M. married to Marian Yoder, Morgantown, John S. married to Grace Yoder, Belleville, Stephen C. married to Frances Yoder, Lebanon,Raymond D. married to Thelma Yoder, Yellow Jacket, CO, Isiah J. married to Shirley Yoder, Cedaredge, CO, and a sister, Mary B. married to John Byler, Belleville; and one granddaughter.
She worked for Penn-Elm Apparel in Elm, PA, for eight years.
She was a member of Grace Brethren Church, Manheim, for thirty-five years and was in charge of the Nursery Department. She was very active in the AWANA group of the church. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and making crafts.

Donald L. Ball
MILROY - Donald L. Ball, 68, of 2372 New Lancaster Valley Road, Milroy, died at 11:07 p.m. Thursday Dec. 26, 2002 at Beverly Healthcare William Penn.
Born March 4, 1934, in Yeagertown, he was a son of the late Ira and Mary (Nichols) Ball. His wife, Nancy (Landis) Ball, whom he married Feb. 9, 1985, survives.
Also surviving are: two daughters, Beth A. Martin and Mrs. Thomas (Cindy) Alexander, both of Havelock, NC; two step-daughters, Mrs. Douglas (Jody) Miller, McVeytown and Lisa Kinser, Lewistown; and four grandchildren.
He was the last of his immediate family having been preceded in death by a grandson, Shawn D. Miller in 2002.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and two tours of Vietnam-retiring in 1973. He owned and operated Granville Service Center and was a salesman for Fisher Auto Parts, Lewistown.
He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, New Lancaster Valley.
His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham with Rev. L. Ed Moore Jr. officiating. Interment will be in New Lancaster Valley Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by VFW Post 7011.

BELLEVILLE - Wilbur H. "JR" Barber, 84, a resident of Valley View Haven, Belleville, formerly of 420 Valley St., Lewistown, died at 5:35 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at Valley View Haven.
Born May 24, 1918, in Lewistown, he was a son, of the late Wilbur R. and Vera M. (Haupt) Barber. His wife, Marjorie M. (Campbell) Barber, preceded him in death April 7, 1994.
Surviving are: a son, Gerald E. Barber, Manheim; a daughter, Mrs. Roy (Donna) Crownover, 86 Poe St., Belleville; two brothers, Robert L. Barber and Richard R. Barber, both of Lewistown; a sister, Mrs. Franklin (Betty) Moore, Lewistown; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lou Ann Barber in 1953 and two brothers.
He retired from Stoicheff Auto Parts in 1979, early in life he and his brothers worked for their father at Barber's City Service Garage and Gas Station, Stratford's Hill, Lewistown.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ.

She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by a sister.
Early in life she worked at the American Viscose Corporation and Arrow Shirt Factory.

ANNVILLE - Charlotte L. Barker, 70, of 131 Palm City Park, Annville, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, of natural causes.
Born June 21, 1931, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Trilba (Wagner) Rothrock. Her husband, William E. Barker, preceded her in death.
Surviving are: two sons, William E. Barker, Harrisburg, and Walter N. Barker, Danville.

Alma C. Barrett
Alma C. Barrett, 86, of Brookline Retirement Village, Mifflintown, formerly of Thompsontown, died at 10:18 pm, Monday, May 6, 2002 at Lewistown Hospital.
Born May 3, 1916 in Atlantic City, NJ, she was the only child of the late William and Nancy (Casteel) Maxwell.
Her husband, Howard W. Barrett, whom she married in 1935, died on Sept. 28, 1994.
She is survived by a son, Kenneth M. Barrett of Chambersburg, a granddaughter, Constance Ammerman of York, a grandson, Gregory Barrett of Lewistown and two great-grandchildren.
Prior to moving to Pennsylvania in 1985, she lived in Absecon and Pleasantville, NJ. She was a piano teacher during her entire life, retiring before moving from New Jersey. She enjoyed playing the piano up until the time of her death. She concentrated upon playing church music, often playing piano-organ duets with her husband, who was a church organist for over 64 years before he died. She taught a children's Sunday school class and was an active member of the church choir in Wesley Methodist Church in Pleasantville, NJ for many years.
In Pennsylvania, she was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown, a member of the Ever Ready Sunday School Class, and sewed with the Needlers..
Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Darvin Donahey officiating. Burial will be in St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery, Licking Creek Valley.

Florence L. "Flo" Barth
MIFFLINTOWN - Florence L. "Flo" Barth, 93, of the Brookline Manor and Retirement Village, Mifflintown RR1, and formerly of East Salem, died at 3:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at the manor.
Born June 13, 1908, in Tuscarora Twp., Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Harry C. and Grace (McMeen) Lawson. Her first husband, C. David Kirk, died May 6, 1960, and her second husband, Frank H. Barth, died July 20, 1999.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was the last of her immediate family having been preceded in death by four brothers, Samuel Lawson, Hugh Lawson, Brooks Lawson and Ray Lawson, and two sisters, Edith Beale and Cardia Lawson.
She was a 1927 graduate of Port Royal High School and a 1929 graduate of Shippensburg State Teachers College.
Earlier in life she had attended the McCullough Mills Presbyterian Church and was a member of the East Salem United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Juniata County Retired Teachers Association and the Tuscarora Grange.
She retired with 39 years of service as an elementary school teacher for the Juniata County School District, having taught in Cross Keys and Waterloo.
Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Mifflintown Chapel of the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. JoAnn M. Darrow officiating. Interment will be in the East Waterford Cemetery, East Waterford.

Augustina M. Battista
BURNHAM - Augustina M. Battista, of 218 Second Avenue, Burnham, died at 9:02 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born Dec. 15, 1909, in Yeagertown, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Partore) Materia. Her husband, Anthony Battista, preceded her in death in 1953.
Surviving are: children, Michael J. Battista, San Antonio, TX, Albert T. Battista, 218 Second Ave., Burnham, Mrs. Frank (Marie) Guerrini, 295 Cornfield Circle, Lewistown; a brother, Edward Materia, Reading; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Frank, Louis, and Anthony, and four brothers.
She was a cook at Battista's Restaurant in Burnham. Later, she was a cook at Stewart's Restaurant for 28 years, before retiring in 1981.
She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Lewistown, with the Rev. Thomas Marickovic officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.

Jean H. Baublitz, 65, of Mechanicsburg, formerly of Mifflintown, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
Born March 26, 1937, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Harry Copeland and Kathyrn (Haspel) Copeland Hernley. Her husband, Rev. Claude R. Baublitz, whom she married Oct. 4, 1975, survives.
Also surviving are: four daughters, Kathy Jean Grumbine, Franklintown, Randee Grumbine Stevens, Harrisburg, Karolynne Grumbine Rudy, Mechanicsburg and Linda Grumbine Moxley, Littlestown; one step-son, C. Jean worked at Holy Spirit Hospital, Lewistown Hospital, and Juniata County Head Start.
She was a graduate of Northern Lebanon High School, the Thompson School of Business Technology, and attended HACC.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mechanics-burg, Letort Quilt Guild, and the Mifflin-Juniata Quilt Guild. She was a founder of Supercupboard and a former National Board member for the Institute of Parenting for Peace and Justice.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown while her husband was a pastor there, and later was a member of the Port Royal Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed quilting, flower gardening, reading and listening to operas.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mechanicsburg with the Rev. Julie Hart and Rev. Marton Roberson officiating. Interment will follow in St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery, Licking Creek Valley (Mifflintown RR 3) at 4 p.m.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown and on Thursday from 12:30 until the time of the services at the church.

LEWISTOWN - Julian J. Bauman, 90, of 10 Winding Way, Lewistown, died at 2:10 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2002 at his home.
Born June 1, 1911 in Etna, he is the son of the late Herman G. and Mary (Mertz) Bauman. His wife, Catherine (Herlihy) Bauman, whom he married Jan. 6, 1940, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Mrs. H. Scott (Joanne B.) Johnston, 413 Caldwell Hill, Lewistown, James J. Bauman, New York City, John J. Bauman, 15 Sunset Road, and Mrs. Paul D. (Margaret B.) Gorder, Pittsburgh; a sister, Margaret Ormond, Truro, Nova Scotia; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathlene M. Bauman, Nov. 12, 1962; five brothers and sisters.
He attended Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, and the Rutgers University School of Banking.
He was a National Bank Examiner for the U.S. Comptroller of the Currency prior to joining Russell National Bank in 1956 where he served as vice-president. He established a Lewistown office for L.F. Rothschild & Co. in 1962 and retired in 1981.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, a member and past president of Lewistown Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris award recipient. He was a member and 4th degree Knight of Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Banker's Associa-tion, Lewistown Lodge #663 B.P.O.E. and the Lewistown Country Club.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Marickovic officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.
Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, where a scripture service will be held at 8:30 p.m.

Born May 23, 1923, in Colver, Cambria County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse B. and Violet E. (Bollinger) Weaver. She was the wife of the late Harry A. Baumgardner Sr., who died on June 4, 1978.

BELLEVILLE - Bonilee M. Baumgardner, 91, of Valley View Retirement Community, Belleville, and formerly of Reedsville, died at 8:35 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Valley View Retirement Community.
Born July 24, 1910, in Milroy, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Davidson and Mary (Peters) Davidson Goss. Her husband, John D. Baumgardner Jr., whom she married March 4, 1928, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Jack Baumgardner, Hanover, Mrs. Kenneth (Mona) Headings, Reedsville, Mrs. Glenn (Greta) Hassinger, Milroy, and Vaughn Baumgardner Sr., Milroy; nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Grant Davidson.
She was a member of the Shrader United Methodist Church.

LEWISTOWN - Helen J. Bearley, 74, of 196 South Main St., Lewistown, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at her residence.
Born Feb. 12, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Percie M. and Viola M. (Crist) Hess. Her husband, James E. Bearley preceded her in death April 14, 1981.
Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Linda) Dunmire, Dillsburg, and Mrs. Gary (Cindy) Lynn, Burnham; two brothers, Paul R. Hess, Lewistown, and James L. Hess, McClure; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
She graduated from Lewistown High School.
She retired from the Malta Home in 1990.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church were she serviced in various positions.

MIFFLIN - William J. Beaston, 67, of HC 67, Mifflin (McCoysville), died Thursday evening at his home.
Born Jan. 23, 1934 in Huntingdon Co., he was the son of the late Elmer and Verna (Scott) Beaston. His wife, Dorothy (Peck) Beaston, preceded him in death on July 6, 1977.
Surviving are: two sons, William L. and Randy A. Beaston, both of McCoysville, and a daughter, Celeste D. Beaston, McCoysville; six brothers, Earl, Bluefield, WV, James, Mifflintown, Robert Mertztown, Carl, Carlisle, David and Ronald, East Waterford, and five sisters, Helen Potter, Greenpark, Lena Smith, East Waterford, Dorothy Miller, Shade Gap, Ruby Cook, Ickesburg, and Betsey Gardner, New Bloomfield; and a grandson, Dylan Beaston, East Waterford.
He was preceded in death by a son, Marlin, a brother, Marlin L. and three sisters, Genevieve McCreary, Josephine Funderwhite and Mildred Snyder.
He was an equipment operator for PennDot.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, his dogs and spending time with his grandson, Dylan, who was his pride and joy.

BELLEVILLE - Alma M. Beaver, 88, of Valley View, Belleville, formerly of Grand Parkway North, Lewistown, died at 1:05 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born April 27, 1914, in Burnham, she was the daughter of the late William and Ida (Varner) Rhodes. Her husband, Robert A. Beaver, preceded her in death on Oct. 21, 1994.
Surviving are: six siblings, Avis Wolpert of Harrisburg, Helen D. Snook of Milroy, Alberta Mackneer of Port Royal, Shirley Bowersox of Burnham, Chester D. Rhodes of Lewistown and William J. Rhodes of Reedsville.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
She was employed at American Viscose Corp. for 29 years and then owned and operated the Town Tavern on S. Main St., Lewistown.
She was a member of Grove Memorial United Methodist Church.

PORT ROYAL - Dolores E. Beers, 55, of Third St., Port Royal, died at 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, in Hershey Medical Center.
Born Oct. 1, 1947, in Honey Grove, she was a daughter of the late George H. Turman and Bertha (Orris) Hostler. Her step-father, George D. Hostler also preceded her in death.
Surviving are: five children, Tim Beers, Port Royal, Tammy Warner, Port Royal, Brian Beers, Richfield, Brenda Carter, Milroy, and Cathy Adair, Port Royal; a brother, George W. Turman, and a sister, Dottie M. Hostler, Port Royal; 11 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.
She was employed by Empire Kosher Poultry, Inc., Mifflintown, having worked in the cook room for 22 years. Earlier in life she had worked for the State Health Center, Port Royal, as a secretary.
She attended Port Royal United Methodist Church.
Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal with Pastor Kenneth R. Kitzmiller officiating. Interment will be in Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Cemetery, Academia.

REEDSVILLE - Richard C. Bell, 70, of 55 Coffee Run (P.O. Box 328), Reedsville, died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at his residence.
Born Jan. 18, 1932, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Raymond C. and Esther (Royer) Bell. His wife, Dorene A. (Griffith) (Glick) Bell, whom he married Nov. 9, 1984, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Barbara Bollinger, Lewistown, Evonne Rhodes, Lewistown, Kim Bell, Lewistown, Richard McCartle, CA, and a step-son, Jonathan R. Glick, Huntingdon; brothers and sister, Robert Bell, Donald Bell and Ronald Bell, all of Lewistown, and Bernice Barnham, Burnham; several grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict.
He worked at Sears, Burnham, before retiring in 1996.

MILROY - Ima E. (Smeltzer) Bender, 81, formerly of 98 Creek Drive, Milroy, died at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Ohesson Manor, Lewistown.
Born April 26, 1921, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Clayton J. and Edna H. (Fultz) Workinger. Her first husband, Clinton Miles Smeltzer, died Jan. 12, 1968. Her second husband, John M. Bender, died June 17, 1982.
Surviving are: a daughter, Deborah (Smeltzer) Kauffman, Milroy; and a step-daughter, Mrs. Richard (Dolli) Stuter, Mifflintown; three siblings, Jean Ernest, Brookhaven, Dean E. and Glenn E. Workinger, both of Milroy; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty L. Narehood on Nov. 29, 2000.
She had worked at Arrow Shirt Company, Kishacoquillas High School and Scotty's Fashions.
She was a member and former Deacon of White Memorial United Church of Christ, Milroy, member of the JOY Class of the Church, and delivered Meals on Wheels.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at White Memorial United Church of Christ, Milroy with Rev. James Barnes officiating. Interment will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy.

Marion J. (Hartzell) Bender
THOMPSONTOWN - Marion J. (Hartzell) Bender of RR1, Thompsontown died at 11:50 a.m. Thursday August 8, 2002, in the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born Sept. 28, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Mary Hartzell. Her husband of 52 years, John H. Bender, survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Steve Bender of Halifax and Kerry Bender of Thompsontown; twin grandsons, Jeffrey and Justin Bender of King of Prussia; two sisters, Bernice Felmlee of Camp Hill and Shirley Coffman of Lewisberry.
She was one of eight sisters and one brother.
She graduated from Thompsontown High School in 1949.
She retired from Debbie Enterprises in Mechanicsburg.
She enjoyed collecting Beanie Babies, solving word puzzles and jig saw puzzles, watching game shows, and spending time with her family.
She was a member of the Newport Assembly of God Church, Newport.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Newport Assembly of God Church, 253 N. Sixth St., Newport, where a viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Thompsontown Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Bellis will be officiating.

MILROY - Guy A. "Abie" Benfer, 82, of 3475 New Lancaster Valley Rd., Milroy, died at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at his home.
Born May 24, 1919, in McClure, he was the son of the late Lester A. and Minnie E. (Stuck) Benfer. His wife Mary C. (Putt) Benfer preceded him in death on April 8, 1988.
Surviving are: son, Thomas C. Benfer Sr., Lewistown; sisters, Gladys Tressler, Vero Beach, FL and Helen Stewart, Lewistown; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Eighth Air Force.
Early in life he worked at Standard Steel, Burnham and was retired from Leacy Motors, Lewistown.
He was a 1937 graduate of Lewistown High School and a member of Salem United Methodist Church, New Lancaster Valley, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7011 Lewistown, United Commercial Travelers, AARP and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with the Rev. Marshall Deckard officiating. Interment will be in New Lancaster Valley Cemetery, were military honors will be provided by VFW Post 7011.

Born July 15, 1939, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Howard H. and Agnes (Klumick) Goss. Her husband, Harry R. Benner, preceded her in death in 1980. She is survived by a companion with whom she resided, Robert D. Cameron.

LEWISTOWN - Conrad John "C.J." Berghof, 20, 6376 Belle Ave., Lewistown, died at 10:50 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2002, at Altoona Trauma Center.
Born April 16, 1982, in Bristol, he was the son of Sherri L. (Hunter) Sullivan of Port St. Lucie, FL, and the late Conrad Berghof. He is also survived by his stepfather, Francis Sullivan of Port St. Lucie, FL.
Surviving are: maternal grandparents, John and Sandra Hunter, Lewistown; uncles, John Hunter Jr., Lewistown and Craig Hunter and his family, Tammy and Tyler of McVeytown; and several other beloved relatives.
A 2000 graduate of Belleville Mennonite School, he was currently a sophomore at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he was an honor student and on the Dean's List. He was serving an internship at Whipple's Dam through the PA Department of Forestry.
He served in the Headquarters Company Second Battalion 112th Infantry "mechanized" with the rank of specialist.

Born March 9, 1916 in Penn, Westmoreland Co., PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Florence (Novac) Berginc. His wife, Rose (Palladino) Berginc, preceded him in death in 1970.
Surviving are: children, Andrea F. Haller, Huntsville, AL, Ronald G. Berginc, 410 Third St., Pleasant Acres, Lewistown, Alan J. Berginc, Butler, and Mrs. Russell (Rosann) Grose, Exton; a brother and sister, Paul Berginc, Penn, and Mrs. Mabel Bush, Wegley; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
He was a Service Technician for I.B.M. for over 35 years before retiring in 1975.
He served in the U.S. Army during WW II.
He attended Light Ministries Full Gospel Church and was a former member of the Lewistown Country Club and was active with the March of Dimes and chaired the Walk-A-Thon for 10 years.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Ronald Nipple officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park Cemetery.

C. William Berryman
LEWISTOWN - C. William Berryman, 77, of 109 Grand Parkway North, Lewistown, died at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at his residence.
Born Sept. 23, 1924, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Ruth (McCord) Berryman. His wife, Dorothy (Black) Berryman, whom he married July 3, 1946, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Dr. Jack and Elaine (Headings) Berryman, Seattle, WA, and Donald E. Berryman, San Diego, CA; one sister, Frances (Sue) Gilbert, Belleville; and two grandchildren, Andrea Larson, Seattle, WA, and Kimberly Berryman, San Diego, CA .
He was preceded in death by by two sisters, Betty Knepp and Elsie Elliott.
He graduated in 1942 from Lewistown High School.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre in the 984th Engineering Maintenance Com-pany.
He retired from Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania in 1982 after 33 years of service as a systems technician.
He was a former member of Lewistown Country Club and Lost Creek Golf Club. He was a life member of Lewistown Pistol Club, the PA Telephone Pioneers Association of Bell Telephone Retirees, and the National Rifle Association. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lewistown.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and pistol shooting and he loved to spend time at his cabin near Greenwood Furnace State Park.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. David Schmuck officiating. Interment will follow in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Ethel B. Betlyon
LEWISTOWN - Ethel B. Betlyon, 84, of 211 Cider Lane, Lewistown, died at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday October 9, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn.
Born April 25, 1918, in Portage, Cambria County, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Edna (Long) Chapple. Her first husband, Melvin Leap, preceded her in death Dec. 1940. Her second husband, William G. Betlyon, preceded her in death in 1986.
Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Delores) Hambright, Yeagertown, and Mrs. Charles (Kay) Eddinger, 211 Cider Lane, Lewistown; a brother, James Chapple, Macon, GA; three grandsons, Douglas Eddinger, Temple, TX, Scott Eddinger, Mifflin, and Steven Eddinger, Lewistown; 2 step-grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
She was a homemaker and formerly employed in the cafeteria of Chief Logan High School.
She was a Methodist by faith.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.

Jesse L. Betlyon Sr., 83, of 2164 Smith Station Rd., Hanover, died at 11:50 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2002, at Hanover Hospital.
His funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Trinity United Church of Christ, 116 York St., Hanover. Interment will be private at Marburg Memorial Gardens.

MIFFLIN - Sara Lynn Beward, infant daughter of Larry L. and Karen E. (Regester) Beward of Mifflin HC 67, died Tuesday, march 26, 2002, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Union Cemetery, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Frances Smith officiating.

Ruth E. Bickhart
BEAVER SPRINGS - Ruth E. Bickhart, 90, of Beaver Springs RR1, passed away at 6:05 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, where she had been a patient since Saturday. She had been in ill health for the past several years.
Born March 13, 1912, in W. Beaver Twp., Snyder Co., she was a daughter of the late Howard and Sarah (Snook) Wieder. Her husband, G. Franklin Bickhart, whom she married in 1934, preceded her in death on April 27, 1986.
Surviving are: five children and spouses, Phyllis and Martin Gerfen, Kansas City, KS, Robert and Sandy Bickhart, RR1 Beaver Springs, Arlene and Harold Flood Jr., McClure, David and Dayna Bickhart, Mifflinburg, and John and Lisa Bickhart, Wilmington, DE; two sisters, Savanah Bell, Horseheads, NY, Betty Goss, Milroy, and three brothers, Harry Wieder, Landisville, John Wieder, Pheonixville, and Richard Wieder, Breezeport, NY; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two infant children and five sisters, Hilda Hartman, May McNitt, Gertrude Kline, Sarah Suniega and Carrie Smeltzer.
She worked as a seamstress for ten years at the former Beaver Shoe Co. before retiring in 1974. Earlier in life, she had been employed by the former Charles T. Saylor Shirt Factory.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Troxelville.
She enjoyed camping and fishing.
Her funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in the Beavertown chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, with the Rev. Karl John Stone officiating. Interment will be in the Troxelville Union Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home 4-9 p.m. Friday where the family will be present from 7-9 p.m., and 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service Saturday.

Eugene R. Bigelow
REEDSVILLE - Eugene R. Bigelow, 89, of 6289 Route 655, Reedsville, died at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at Valley View Retirement Community, Belleville.
Born Feb. 25, 1913 in Altoona, he was the son of the late Clay and Ella (Randolph) Bigelow. His wife, Martha K. (Swyers) Bigelow, whom he married Aug. 11, 1933, survives.
Also surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. David (Barbara) Adams, Akron, OH; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family.
He was a manager at A&P Foods in Lewistown, Bellefonte and Philipsburg for 39 years.
He was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Masonic Lodge 268, Bellefonte.
He was a graduate of Lewistown High School.
His funeral service will be private and at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. Lois Martin officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville. There will be no viewing.
William L. Bigelow
LANCASTER - William L. Bigelow, 62, of, Lancaster, died Saturday morning at Brethren Village, after a brief illness.
Born in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Jack P. and D. Jeanne (Treaster) Bigelow. His wife, Barbara (Shilling) Bigelow, survives.
Also surviving are one son, and four brothers, and four sisters.
He was a machinist with William Tool and Design and other firms, retiring in March.
Marian A. Bingaman
Lewistown - Marian A. Bingaman, 87, of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, formerly of 21 McClintic Ave., Lewistown, died at 8:25 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2002, at the home.
Born June 2, 1915, in Snowshoe, Centre County, she was the daughter of the late James Edward and Della Agnes (Glace) Poorman.
Surviving are 11 children, Robert Stanford of Lewistown, Elizabeth Goss of McClure, Shirley Barton of Warminster, Barbara Earnest of California, Doris Grooms of Telford, Eleanor Diven of McClure, James Bingaman of Lancaster, Frances Paker of Lewistown, Marlene Shawver of Lewistown, Roxie Barnes of San Antonio, Texas and Peggy Mellinger of Lewistown; a brother, Ira Poorman of Houston, Texas; 34 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Howard Poorman; three brothers and four sisters.
She was a homemaker. In earlier life, she was employed at American Viscose Corporation, Lewistown.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with Rev. George H. Mark officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.
A public viewing will be held 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Jeanette E. Bishop
LEWISTOWN - Jeanette E. Bishop, 81, formerly of Deland, FL, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002 at the Malta Home.
She was preceded in death by her second husband, Park V. Bishop Sr., on Dec. 4, 1999, and her first husband, Paul A. Tassa Sr., in 1942.
Surviving are three children, Paul A. Tassa Jr., Stella R. Rhodes and Park V. Bishop Jr.; and a step-son, Dale Bishop.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
