Homer Shelley Rice Sr.
TUSCARORA - Homer Shelley Rice Sr., 65, of Tuscarora, RR3, Port Royal, died at 8:56 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Dec. 7, 1936, in Turbett Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Homer S. and Mary Jane (Sheaffer) Rice. His wife, Lillian Jean (Comerford) Rice, whom he married July 3, 1962, survives. Also surviving are: two daughters and two sons, Lillian Leach and Sherry Ann Rice, both of RR3, Port Royal, Homer S. Rice Jr., Thompsontown, and Mitchell S. Rice Sr., McAlisterville; two sisters, Mrs. Herb (Dot) Beasom, RR3, Port Royal, and Mrs. Sam (Mary Jane) Varner, McAlisterville; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Curtis Rice, on July 10, 1989, two sisters, Jennie Haas and Margaret Welshonse, a brother, Harold Rice, and an infant brother, James Rice. He was a peacetime veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He was a truck driver and a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of the Tuscarora Church of the Brethren. His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with the Rev. Charles Sheaffer and the Rev. Charles Eldredge officiating. Peter L. "Petey" Rinker
NEWTON HAMILTON - Peter L. "Petey" Rinker, 27, of P.O. Box 227, Newton Hamilton, died at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at the UPMC, Pittsburgh. Born Oct. 23, 1974, in Huntington, he was the son of Judy P. (Sunderland) Rinker, Lewistown and Oshel M. Rinker Jr., Roaring Springs. Also surviving are: his loving companion, Misty J. Worthy; maternal grandparents, Clay and Gloria Sunderland, Newton Hamilton; sister, Pam Rinker, Newton Hamilton; step-sister and a step-brother, Carli J. and William M. Rinker, both of Roaring Springs; a niece and a nephew. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching WWF. He was also a Nascar fan, especially following Jeff Burton. His service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mt. Union. Interment will be in Haven Rest Memorial Park, RD1 Shirleysburg. Henry C. Ritchey
McVeytown - Henry C. Ritchey, 86, of 23 N. Water St., McVeytown, died at 11:55 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at the Malta Home for the Aging in Granville. Born Dec. 28, 1915, in Germany Valley, he was the son of the late Ambrose and Olive (Shields) Ritchey. His wife, Esther I. (Miller) Ritchey, whom he married on Oct. 4, 1936, survives. Also surviving are: children, Ronald C. Ritchey of Berwick, Charles and Gary Ritchey, both of Lewistown, and David and Randall Ritchey, both of McVeytown; a sister, Tessie Knox of Granville; a brother, Marshall Ritchey of McVeytown; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis L. Ritchey, Sr., two daughters Susan and Shirley Ritchey, two brothers and a sister. He was a heavy equipment operator for the construction industry and a member of local Union of Operating Engineers #542. He was a member of the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pine Glen Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Donald Peters officiating. Interment will be held at the Pleasant View Cemetery. A public viewing will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham.

Pearl Ritchey
HONEY GROVE - Pearl Ritchey, 75, of Honey Grove, died at 11:20 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born July 5, 1927, in Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Marshall and Eva (Palm) Peterson. Her husband, William Ritchey died Jan. 19, 1986. Surviving are: two sons, John W. Ritchey and Robert P. Ritchey, both of Honey Grove; a daughter, Connie Campbell, RR1, East Waterford; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family having been preceded in death by three brothers, John, Dean, and Clarence Peterson. She was a retired floor supervisor for the East Waterford Textile Company. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, East Waterford. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday from Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove with Pastor Don Walters officiating. Interment will be in McCullochs Mills Cemetery. A viewing will be from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with family present from 7-9 p.m.

Eva R. Ritzman
PORT ROYAL - Eva R. Ritzman, 87, formerly of RR1, Port Royal, died at 12:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, HC 67, Mifflin. Born Dec. 20, 1914, in Fermanagh Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of Edward Miller Kramer and Bessie Rebecca Kramer Wileman. Her husband, Robert W. Ritzman, died on April 3, 1991. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Emma) Page of RR2, Port Royal; two siblings, Delton Wileman of Bonifay, FL and Naoma Trout of Lancaster County; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Leona Joy Youtzy, on March 29, 1998; two grandsons, one great-grandson, one brother and five sisters. She was a member of Port Royal Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with Pastor Frank J. Swartz officiating. Interment will be in Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. A viewing will be held 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

K. Roberta Robinson
PORT ROYAL - K. Roberta Robinson, 72, of RR2, Port Royal (Walnut), died at 12:50 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Brookline Manor and Retirement Village, RR1, Mifflintown. Born June 12, 1930, in Beale Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late J. Dewey and Katherine B. (McClure) McWilliams. Her husband, Harold H. "Ham" Robinson, whom she married Feb. 28, 1952, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. John W. (Sue) Dunn, Port Royal, two sons, H. Eugene Robinson, Falls Church, VA, and Gerald R. Robinson, RR2, Port Royal; a brother, J. Ed McWilliams, Mifflintown, three sisters, Mrs. Clarence B. (Beatrice L.) Reed, RR3, Mifflintown, Mrs. John E. (Caryl L.) Groninger, Mexico, Mrs. Donald L. (Pauline B.) Campbell Etters; and seven grandchildren. She was a 1948 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown. Early in life she was a secretary/bookkeeper for John E. Groninger, General Contractor, Mexico, and then served 12 years as the secretary for the Beale Township Supervisors, before retiring in 2000. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Nook. She enjoyed reading and attending church activities. Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Nook, with her pastor, the Rev. Marton Roberson officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Nook. MILLSBORO, DE - Samuel Richard Robinson, 71, of Millsboro, DE, formerly of Wilmington, DE, died in the arms of his loving wife, Sarah on Sept. 15, 2002, in the Beebe Hospital. Born July 31, 1931, in Lewistown. In addition to his wife of 30 years, Sarah T. Robinson, he is also survived by: eight children, Nancy R. DeVito and her husband, Gary, Bear, DE, Diana K. Loveland and her husband Robert, Mannington, NJ, Sharon L. Kipp, Claymont, DE, Kathleen S. Griffith, Newark, DE, Kevin F. Corcoran and his wife Mary, Middletown, DE, Mary Jo Langford and her husband Dennis, Richmond, VA, Jeffrey C. Corcoran, Corvallis, OR, John C. Corcoran, Yardley; a brother, Harold Robinson, Smyrna, DE; a brother-in-law, John E. Adams and a sister-in-law, Mary L. Robinson, both of Wilmington, DE; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: a brother, Melvin A. Robinson; a sister, Clementine A. Adams; and a great-grandson, Haidon Samuel Robinson. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He retired in 1995 from DART after 38 years of service. He also worked for DART Park & Ride in Rehoboth and the Cheer in Millsboro for two years. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. Deacon John A. Rocco
LEWISTOWN -Deacon John A. Rocco, 78, of 401 S. Main St., Lewistown, died at 3:36 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2002 at Brookline Manor. Born Aug. 15, 1924, in Renova, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Astone) Rocco. Surviving are five siblings, Joseph Rocco of Shillington, Grace Wilt, Anthony Rocco, Samuel P. Rocco and Mildred Rocco, all of Lewistown. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Charles and James Rocco; two sisters, Rose Rocco and Anna Gagliardo; two nephews and a niece. He earned a bachelor of science degree from St. Francis College, Loretto. He was the former manager and proprietor of Rocco's Supermarkets. In 1978, he was ordained as a deacon and served in St. Joseph's Parish, Mechanicsburg, St. Pious X Parish, Selinsgrove, and currently at St. Jude's Parish, Mifflintown. He was member of B.P.O.E. Lodge #663, Knights of Columbus and Roundtable of Christians and Jews. He was President to Cabinet at St. Francis College and a member of U.T.C. Council #591. He was also a member of Lewistown Rotary Club and Lewistown Kiwanis, where he served as a director for two years. He was a former member of the board of directors of Russell National Bank, the former secretary and treasurer of the Mifflin-Juniata Counties American Heart Association, and the former director of the American Cancer Society and the Lewistown Chamber of Commerce, previously serving as the former chairman of the Mercantile Division. He was also a former member of the Lewistown Industrial Development Corp. and the City Planning and Zoning Commission. He was a former recipient of the Brotherhood Award. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Lewistown, with Celebrant Father Thomas Marickovic and Concelebrant Father John Schmalhofer officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church, followed by a viewing until 9 p.m. The family will provide all funeral flowers. Paul R. Rodgers
LEWISTOWN - Paul R. Rodgers, 75, of Green Township, Franklin County, formerly of Lewistown, died of natural causes after a lengthy illness Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, in Chambersburg Hospital. Born Feb. 26, 1927, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Paul R. and Elsie Heikes Rodgers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette Berger Rodgers. Surviving are daughters Linda, wife of David Peck of Dillsburg, and Jeanne, wife of Rick Beckley of Palmyra as well as one grandson, David Peck, Jr. of Mechanicsburg. He worked as a supervisor for the Landis Plant of the Kinney Shoe Co., Palmyra, and retired from Adidas Shoe Co., Kutztown. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War and was a member of the National Rifle Association. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Services will be private at the convenience of the family at the Rothermel Funeral Home, 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.

Kenneth J. Rodkey
Kenneth J. Rodkey Sr, 93, of RR2 Northumberland, and formerly of Sunbury, died at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2002, in Nottingham Village Northumberland. He was born in Lewistown on Aug. 30, 1908. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family at the David T. Zweier Funeral Home Inc., Sunbury, with the Rev. Paul Beach officiating.

Vera M. Roe
GRANVILLE - Vera M. Roe, 78, a resident of the Malta Home, Granville, and formerly of Lawler Place, Lewistown, died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at the Malta Home. Born April 4, 1923, in Three Springs, Huntingdon County, she was the daughter of the late Charles R. and Rachel L. (Everhart) Hagans. She was preceded in death by her first husband, George W. Wentz, in 1947 and her second husband, Donald E. Roe, in 1987. Surviving are: two sons, Ronald G. Wentz Sr., Leonardtown, MD and Edward L. Hagans, Lewistown; a brother, Milford D. Hagans, Windham, OH; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters Early in life, she worked for Juniata Garment Company. Later, she was employed by Lewistown Shoe Factory and Sitkins Refinery, where she retired from in 1975. She was a member of Evangel Baptist Church. Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Bernard Carpenter officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Edwin H. Rohrbeck
STATE COLLEGE - Edwin H. Rohrbeck, 71, of State College, died March 26, 2002, at Centre Community Hospital. Born Jan. 22, 1931, in Bellefonte, he was a son of the late Edwin H. and Ruth O. (Hyndman) Rohrbeck. His wife, Marjorie (Shaffer) Rohrbeck, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Patricia Stepler, and a son, Fred Rohrbeck; a sister, Mary R. Bittner, a brother, Dr. Charles W. Rohrbeck; and five grandchildren. He graduated from State College High School, Penn State University and Garrett Theological Seminary. He was a minister with the Central Pennsylvania United Methodist Conference from 1954 to 1992, including Mifflintown from 1961-1965. He taught in Juniata County at East Juniata High School and Tuscarora Junior High and was Athletic Director at East Juniata. His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Mt. Nittany United Methodist Church, State College, with the Rev. Carl E. Hill officiating. Interment will be in Centre County Memorial Park. MECHANICSBURG - Harold L. Rohrer, 90, of Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Lewistown, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002 at Messiah Village. Born Sept. 21, 1911 in West Milton, OH, he was the son of Emanuel J. and Mae (Lochner) Rohrer. His wife, Martha (Gramm) Rohrer, whom he married Feb. 22, 1936 in Troy, OH, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Joyce (Mrs. Samuel J.) King, Belleville, two sons, Carl E., Ormand Beach, FL, and Lowell I., McVeytown; two sisters, Lois Scheaffer, West Milton, OH, and Miriam Rooney, Punta Gorda, FL; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews. He had 40 years of pastoral work with the B.I.C. Church's at Pleasant Hill, OH, Granville, PA, and Uniontown, OH. He also drove school bus for the Mifflin Co. School District. He was a member of the Messiah Village Brethren in Christ Church. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Messiah Village with the Rev. Ron Burgard officiating. MCCLURE - Dorothy C. Romig, 88, of Valley View Haven, formerly of Summit Road, McClure, died at 5:20 a.m. Saturday, Sept 21, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Dec. 24, 1913, in McClure, she was a daughter of the late Reuben S. and Amanda (Rager) Romig. Her husband, Russell R. Romig, preceded her in death on Dec 12, 1983. Surviving are: nine children, Mrs. Barbara Shirey, Strodes Mills, Richard L. Romig, Back Maitland Road, McClure, Larry R. Romig, Lewistown, Gary L. Romig, McClure, Mrs. Robert (Lucy) Baker, Summit Road, McClure, Mrs. Donald (Donna) Wray, McClure, Mrs. Darwin (Shirley) Shawver, Summit Road, McClure, Michael R. Romig, Old Stage Road, McClure, Dennis A. Romig, Summit Road, McClure; 23 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. MCVEYTOWN - Bessie R. Ronk, 79, of 280 W. Holiday St., McVeytown, died at 2:55 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, in Lewistown Hospital. Born Sept. 18, 1922, in Bratton Township, she was the daughter of the late Caleb A. and Tillie (Miller) Harshbarger. She was the wife of the late David C. Ronk, who preceded her in death on Nov. 11, 1992. Surviving are: children, Leonard L. Ronk, Electric Ave., Lewistown, Mrs. Scott (Donna) Shirk, Treaster Valley, Linda Ronk, Maple Ave., Lewistown, Ronald R. Ronk, McVeytown, and Mrs. Jeffrey (Shirley "Shirl") Miller, Reedsville; brothers and sisters, Samuel C. Harshbarger, Mt. Union, Lorma J. Moist, McVeytown, Wilbur E. Harshbarger, Mifflintown, Mary I. Geraldine Arnold Rosensteel
MOUNT UNION - Geraldine Arnold Rosensteel, 92, of RR1, Box 159, Mt. Union, died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia. Born June 10, 1909, in Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Minta (Kelly) Arnold. She was married to the late J. Arthur Rosensteel. Surviving is a daughter, Donna Bilger of RR1 Mt. Union. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., on Saturday, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mt. Union, with viewing 2 hours before.

Shirley A. Ross
LEWISTOWN - Shirley A. Ross, 65, of 171 Pennebaker Ave., Apt. A, Lewistown, died at 9:10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at the Lewistown Hospital Emergency Room. Born Nov. 5, 1936, in Zap, N.D., she was a daughter of the late Allen and Irene (Sams) Luder. Her husband, Rocco A. Ross, whom she married on April 4, 1985, survives. Also surviving are: children, David Phillips, Westcliff, CO, and Mrs. Greg (Susan) Stuter, Reedville; a step-son, Rocco E. Ross, St. Paul, MN; a step-daughter, Mrs. Mike (Gina) Malbis, Orange Beach, AL; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Lindsay Morgan and Claudia Holbrook. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Sorshdaul. She was an assembler for 11 years in the parts department of Arrow Shirt Factory, Lewistown, and was later employed by the Lewistown Sentinel from 1987-1999. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church. Her service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. John S. Walters officiating. MILLHEIM - Franklin Howard Rossman, 82, of Penn Street, Millheim, entered into rest on Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at his beloved home that he built. Born May 30, 1920, at 149 Penn St., Millheim, he was the son of the late Ray Howard and Helen (Colyer) Rossman. His wife, Geraldine Louise (Colyer) Rossman, whom he married March 28, 1941 in Bel Aire, MD, survives at 165 Penn St., Millheim. Also surviving are: three daughters, Brenda A. Confer, wife of the late John C. Confer, Millheim, Carol L. McNichol and her husband, Sam A. McNichol, Bellefonte, Karen (Rossman) Styers and her husband, E. Terry Styers, McVeytown; a son, Dean Kenneth Rossman and his wife, Sandra (Lose) Rossman, Spring Mills; a brother, Russell J. Rossman, State College; two sister-in-laws, Jean O. Stover, Spring Mills, and Mary Cilmore, Millheim; twelve grandchildren, John Howard Confer, Spring Mills, Shelia Confer Barlock, State College, Kylee M. Styers, McVeytown, Carmen L. McNichol, Samuel A. McNichol, Zebulon H. McNichol, Bellefonte, Deanna Rossman Brown, Hollidaysburg, Richela Rossman Benton, York, Dawn Rossman Funk, Dover, Dean Kenneth Rossman II, Bath, NY, Scott Franklin Cornell Rossman, State College, and Mitchell Charles Rossman, Philadelphia; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dean Kenneth Rossman; and two sisters, Elizabeth (Rossman) Smith and Virginia Kane Boob. He attended primary and elementary school in Millheim and graduated from East Penns Valley High School in 1938. He was a carpenter, plumber, and cabinet maker, retiring from Hosterman and Stover Hardware, Millheim. He served as a member of the 275th port company of the U.S. Army as a rifleman in the infantry of the Phillipines 1944-46. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Phillipines Liberation Ribbon, the AS-PAC Service Medal and a Victory Medal. He was a member of the Saint Luke's United Methodist Church, Millheim. He was a charter member of the World War II Memorial, the National Rifle Association, the American Legion Post #444, the Fraternal Organization of the Elks, and the Millheim Fire Company. His hobbies were cabinet making, hunting, fishing, reading, furniture making, spending time at his mountain land and spending time with family. Franklin Howard Rossman was a devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather. He took great pride in his family and their accomplishments. He was a veteran of World War II in which he was active in fighting to save the way of life we enjoy today in the United States and a keeper of hope for the future. In these endeavors, he was one of the last of the greatest generation in our country. Franklin loved the outdoors and the life that was part of it. He found a tabernacle in the earth, hearing God whisper in the winds. He was an avid hunter and loved to fish and read. His work with wood, building furniture, clocks, and homes were a way of passing on to future generations creativity and craftsmanship. He patiently taught those skills to his children and grandchildren so that they would not be lost. He believed in only asking for what was necessary so that everyone could have what they needed. In these things and so many more he was a man who made the world better just by being the kind of person he was. He possessed the gifts of kindness, courage, loyalty and integrity. It mattered little what he was pursuing in life, he taught the truth by living it. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday, at Saint Luke's United Methodist Church, 117 Penn St., Millheim, and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday, with services at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Edward H. Putt Sr. officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Millheim. Military services will be conducted graveside by American Legion Post #444 of Millheim. Barbara Ann Rotz
CHAMBERSBURG - Barbara Ann Rotz, 60, of 414 South Main Street, Chambersburg, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, in Falling Springs Nursing Home, Chambersburg. Born June 15, 1942, in Thompsontown, she was a daughter of her late father, William Dillman, mother and step-father, Preston and Lida Foose. Her husband, Mike T. Rotz, whom she married Dec. 30, 1978, survives. Also surviving are: two sons, Jeffrey R. Strawser, Sidney, OH, and Michael O. Rotz, Chambersburg; two daughters, Shana R. Kline, Richfield, and Savannah Daniels, Lititz; five brothers, Bill Dillman, Palm Springs, CA, Guy Dillman, McAlisterville, Martin Dillman, Mt. Pleasant Mills, Preston G. Fossellman, McAlisterville, and Ken Foose, Mifflintown; a sister, Betty Notestine, Lakeland, FL; and three grandchildren. She worked as a secretary for Off Track Betting, Chambersburg. Her memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Ltd., 725 Norland Ave., Chambersburg. Reba B. (Weller) Smith Roudabush
LEWISTOWN - Reba B. (Weller) Smith Roudabush, 86, of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, and formerly of Huntingdon, died at 5:35 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn. She had been in declining health for the past two years. Born June 26,1915, in Entriken, she was a daughter of the late Samuel C. and Laura (Lynn) Weller. She was preceded in death by her two previous husbands. Surviving are: children, Donald C. Smith, Huntingdon, Larry L. Smith, RD2 Huntingdon, and Mrs. Benjamin (Barbara Frances) Kidd, Lewistown; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by brothers, James Allen Weller and John Howard Weller, and sisters, Laura Dorothy (Weller) Barner, Frances Rhoda (Weller) Fouse, Florence (Weller) Heck, Margaret (Weller) Bellman and Minnie (Weller) Stover. She attended the public schools of Marklesburg and graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1932. She worked as a live-in companion with families in the Lewistown area. She was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses, Huntingdon and Lewistown. She had served on the Huntingdon County Emergency Relations Board. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Inc. 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, with Mr. Robert Cook officiating. Interment will be at Huntingdon Memorial Gardens. There is no public viewing, but friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.

David L. Rowe
LEWISTOWN - David L. Rowe, 71, of 13153 Ferguson Valley Road, died at 9:10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at his home. Born May 21, 1930, in Yeagertown, he was the son of the late David I. and Margaret (Aumiller) Rowe. His wife, Norita (Kemberling) Rowe, whom he married in 1961, survives. Also surviving are: children, Drew D. Rowe, Spartanburg, SC, Dr. Christopher L. Rowe, Mechanicsville, MD, Molly B. Schuck, State College, and Gregory Rowe, Bakersfield, CA; a sister, Mrs. Guy L. (Alva) Shirk, Reedsville; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister. He was a 1947 graduate of Derry Township High School and a 1953 graduate of the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma, with Bachelors and Masters degrees in Chemical Engineering. His professional life was spent at Atlantic Refining Co., Philadelphia, American Viscose Corp., Lewistown, Chemcut Corp., State College, and Standard Steel, Burnham. Much of his tenure at Standard Steel was in the Maintenance Department. In 1985, Mr. Rowe founded Freedom Componets, Inc., and served as President and General Manager until his death. He also owned and operated Rowe Gun and Machine Shops from 1958 through 1998. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Alfarata, and a life member of the National Rifle Assoc., as well as many local sportsmen's clubs. He was a long-time competitor in NRA sanctioned rifle competitions. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, Inc., 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Clyde B. Singh officiating. Interment will be in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery. There will be no viewing, however family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday, at the funeral home. Homer C. Rowles
EAST WATERFORD - Homer C. Rowles, 80, of RR1 East Waterford (Cross Keys) died at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday in the Lewistown Hospital. Born April 19, 1922, in Tell Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late S. Joshua and Lillian (Rhine) Rowles. His wife, Jean (Kelley) Rowles, survives. Also surviving are: three sons, Floyd Rowles and wife Joyce, Cross Keys, Homer "Mart" Rowles and wife Audrey, Cross Keys and Darvin Rowles and wife Patricia, Middletown; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Sherry) Swartz and Mrs. Eugene (Sharon) Scott, both of Port Royal; 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, three brothers and two sisters. He was U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the Cross Keys Church of God, Cross Keys Hunting Club, Cross Keys Conservation Club, East Waterford Fire Company and EMS. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove, with Pastor Frances Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Waterloo Cemetery, where full military honors will be conducted by the Juniata Veterans Council. Scott D. Ruble
HONEY GROVE - Scott D. Ruble, 66, of Honey Grove RR 1, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Sept. 3, 1936, in East Waterford, he was a son of the late John and Dorothy (Kirk) Ruble. His wife, Marie (Bontemps) Ruble, died on June 22, 2000. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Scott (Violette) Darrow, Honey Grove RR 1; one brother, Dennis Ruble, New Bloomfield; and one sister, Pat Williams, Port Royal. He was preceded in death by two infant sons and one brother, John Ruble. He was a veteran, serving in the United States Army. He retired from Leidy Chevrolet and enjoyed reading. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal, with Pastor Dennis Thompson officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council. There will be a viewing on 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown.

Sheldon D. Runk Sr.
MCVEYTOWN - Sheldon D. Runk Sr., 73, of 70 Rowe Drive, McVeytown, died at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, at Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Jan. 2, 1929, in Shirleysburg, he was a son of the late David W. and Naomi T. (Newman) Runk. His wife, Janet (Hobbs) Runk, survives at home. Also surviving are: three children, Sheldon D. Runk Jr., Samuel D. Runk, Jane Hess; three brothers, Kenneth, Max, and Boyd Runk; six grandchildren and one great-grandson. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mt Union, with the Rev. Jeff Winstead officiating. Interment will be in the Germany Valley Cemetery. Stanford W. Runk
MIFFLINTOWN - Stanford W. Runk, 79, of RR 3 Mifflintown and formerly of Mt. Union, died at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital. Born May 20, 1922, in Shirley Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Granville and Beatrice (James) Runk. Surviving are a son, Gary Runk of Harrisburg; three daughters, Mrs. Keith (Debra) Mingle, Mrs. Gary (Judy) Boozel and Mrs. Roger (Teresa) Nearhood, all of Mifflintown; two sisters, Katherine Shaffer of Bedford and Mrs. Ronald (Isabel) Hoch of Clermont, FL; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Mifflintown, where he was a member of the Ambassador Sunday School Class. He had previously attended Sugar Run Church of the Brethren, Mt. Union, for many years. He was retired from J.C. Blair Hospital, where he had worked in the custodial department. He later worked at Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia. In earlier years, he had worked at Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg, and also in construction and farming. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Sugar Run Church of the Brethren, Mt. Union, with Pastor Ronald Shupe and Pastor Jim Hullihen officiating. Interment will be in Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg. A viewing will be held 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Wayne E. Runk
MCVEYTOWN - Wayne E. Runk, 76, of 8206 Ferguson Valley Rd., McVeytown, died at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born July 28, 1925, in Shirleysburg, he was a son of the late David W. and Naomi T. (Newman) Runk. His wife, Dorothy J. (Kane) Runk, whom he married June 5, 1949, at the CMA Church in Mt. Union, survives. Also surviving are: children, Wayne C. Runk, Potters Mills, Susan R. Brodie, State College, Ronald E. Runk, Milton, and Peggy J. Wien, Delmont; brothers, Kenneth Runk, WI, Sheldon Runk, RD McVeytown, Max Runk, Punxsutawney, and Boyd Runk, RD Mt. Union; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, two brothers and four sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the European Theatre. He retired in 1973 as a gauger after 23 years of service with Mobile Oil Co., being based in the Altoona office. He also farmed in Ferguson Valley for many years. He was a member of the Spring Run Church of the Brethren and a member of the Big Spring Lodge #361 F&AM, Newville. His funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mt. Union, with the Rev. Jerry Miller officiating. Interment will be in the Germany Valley Cemetery, RD, Shirleysburg. Crystal F. (Westover) Rupert
ALEXANDRIA - Crystal F. (Westover) Rupert, 27, of RD 1, BOx 380A-1, Alexandria, died at 7:45 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2002 in an automobile accident. Born June 3, 1974, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of Freddie Westover of Mt. Union, RD1 and Theresa (Palm) Westover of Kistler. She was the wife of Michael G. Rupert, whom she married on April 24, 1995 in West Virginia. Also surviving are children, Chellsie L. Rupert, Dalton L. Rogers and Cheyenne M. Rupert, all at home; two sisters, Tami Raison of Mt. Union and Amanda Westover of Kistler; and a paternal grandmother, Clara Stever of Mt. Union. She was a member of the Word of Life Fellowship Church, Saulsburg. She was a graduate of Mt. Union Area High School and Huntingdon County Vo-tech and was employed at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Word of Life Fellowship Church, Saulsburg with Pastor Stephen Watkins officiating. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery, Petersburg. LEWISTOWN - Daniel M. Rupert, 40, of 360 Cottage Place, Lewistown, died at 10:35 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, while visiting at his brother's home in Silver Springs, MD. Born Sept. 17, 1962, in Lewistown, he was a son of Donald M. and Phyllis J. (Reese) Rupert Jr. of 360 Cottage Place, Lewistown. Also surviving are two brothers, Steven A. Rupert and his wife, Esther, of Silver Springs, MD, and M. Scott Rupert and his wife, Terri Dawn, of McClure; nieces and nephews, Calvin, Rachel and Bethany, all of Maryland, and Tyler and Chase, both of Lewistown; and his best friend, Kaelon. He was a 1980 graduate of Chief Logan High School and a 1984 graduate of Lock Haven University, where he was a member of Phi Mu Delta. Prior to his illness he was employed in restaurant personnel management and was also a professional waiter. He was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 North Main St., Lewistown, with Pastor Don Ehrlich officiating. Jesse Z. Rush III
NEWPORT - Jesse Z. Rush III, 76, of South Second Street, Newport, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. Born Dec. 21, 1925, in Claymont, DE, he was the son of the late Jesse Z. and Lillian "Huggins" Rush Jr. His wife, Charlotte E. (Hackenberg) Rush, preceded him in death. Surviving are: sons, Jesse Z. Rush IV, Huntingdon, Stephen L. Rush, Lewistown, and Matthew Todd Rush; a half-brother, Robert Rush, Lewistown; two grandchildren, David and Christopher Rush, and four great-grandchildren, Mackenzee, Payton, Gates and Kailin. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Rush. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was retired from the State as a High Voltage Electrician. He was a member of Calvary Bible Church, Lewistown, Newport American Legion Post #177, Newport VFW Post #34, Newport Social Order of Owls, Newport Loyal Order of Moose #1562 and the Lewistown Fire Co. He enjoyed gardening. A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. today at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.
