Anna Marie R. Wood, 74, of RD1 Brandonville, died Tuesday at her home. Born in Girardville, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary Ginley Ey. She was a 1943 graduate of Butler Township High school. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Ringtown. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Francis and Thomas Ey, and a sister, Margaret Ey. Surviving are her husband, Francis; a son, Francis, at home; a daughter, Mary Kathleen Vera, Flourtown; a brother, James Ey, Girardville; a sister, Regina Yinger, Emmitsburg, Md.; nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from Robert M. McDonald Funeral Home, Girardville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Girardville, by the Rev. Victor Anselmi. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fountain Springs.

William Joseph ``Bib'' Dean
Services for William Joseph ``Bib'' Dean, 49, of 43 Patriotic Hill, Mahanoy City, formerly of Frackville, who died unexpectedly shortly after admission Monday morning at Pottsville Hospital, will be held at thr convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. The Rev. Durrell J. Seip will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Frackville. Nice Funeral Home, Frackville, is in charge of arrangements. Born in Frackville, he was a son of Elizabeth C. Mervine Dean, Frackville, and the late William E. Dean. He was a lifelong Frackville resident until moving to Patriotic Hill three years ago. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Reading Anthracite Co., Gilberton. He was of the Lutheran faith. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James, in 1986, and Darrin, in 1991. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his fiancee, Suzann Stank, Mahanoy City; a son, William C., Shenandoah; a daughter, Sherry A. Streeter, Shenandoah; two brothers, Paul A., Frackville, and Joseph W., Maizeville, Gilberton; two sisters, Laura M. Tomko, Pittstown, N.J., and Carol A. Hauze, Gilberton; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth Kuhl
Elizabeth Kuhl, 89, of Schuylkill Manor, Pottsville, died Tuesday at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. Born in Saint Clair, she was a daughter of the late Anthnoy and Mary Kuba Kanish. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo F., in 1995; a son, John Supko; three sisters, Anna Androshick, Mary Farenish and Susan Goblick; five brothers, Michael, John, Peter, Samuel and George Kanish. She was the last member of her immediate family. Surviving are two grandchildren, Pamela Donaldson, Delaware, and John Supko, Saint Clair; two great-grandchildren, Megan Donaldson and Shannon Donaldson, both of Delaware; nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday from James H. Evans Funeral Home Inc., Saint Clair. The Rev. Philip S. Bendle III will officiate. There will be no calling hours Thursday evening. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.

Francis J. ``Gus'' Heine
Services for Francis J. ``Gus'' Heine, 75, of 245 N. Nice St., Frackville, who died Monday night at his home, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday from Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home, Frackville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Frackville. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Englewood, Frackville. Born in Frackville, he was a son of the late Augustine and Bernadette Scholtes Heine. He was a 1942 graduate of Shenandoah Catholic High School. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater of Operations. He had been a die oven operator at the former Alcoa plant, Cressona, for 28 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church; a 52-year member of Knights of Columbus, Father James A. Hogan Council 2580, where he was financial secretary for 48 years; a life member of Frackville Elks Lodge 1533; a member of Goodwill Hose Company, all of Frackville; a member of Six County Firemans Association; American Legion Post 945; Marine Corps League, Coal Cracker Detachment; Alcoa 25-year Club; and was financial secretary for the 1976 Frackville Centenial Committee. He was a 43-year member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Schuylkill Assembly, and a 48-year member of Men of Malvern. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Colleen; three sisters, Mary Louise Petroskie, Bernadette Birster, and Augusta Pulaski. He was the last member of his immediate family. Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Mallick, to whom he was married 47 years; a son, James F., New Boston; four daughters, Donna Karpovich, Locust Valley, Lucinda Turner, Palmdale, Calif., Deborah Pepaj, Wrightwood, Calif., Karen Bowe, Hershey; 15 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; cousins; nieces and nephews.

John Hughes
Services for John Hughes, 78, of Broad Mountain Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Frackville, who died Monday evening at Ashland Regional Medical Center, will be held Friday at the convenience of the family at the Annunciation Cemetery, Shenandoah. Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland, is in charge of arrangements. Born in Shenandoah, he was a son of the late John and Bertha Muskiewicz Hughes Youskites. He was of the Catholic faith. He was the last immediate member of his family. Surviving are cousins.

John Sweat
John Sweat, 74, of 225 S. Morris St., Saint Clair, died Tuesday at home. Born in Saint Clair, he was a son of the late Paul and Mary Bonk Sweat. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was last employed at Tamaqua Cable, Schuylkill Haven. He was of the Catholic faith and a life member of Columbia Hose Company, Saint Clair. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Peter and Joseph. Surviving are his wife, the former Gloria F. Reinoehl, to whom he was married 47 years; a son, Robert, Orwigsburg; three daughters, Jan Gentry, Markham, Ill., Debra Forney, Pottsville, and Judy DiMariano, Saint Clair; a brother, Michael, Harrisburg; a sister, Helen Roble, Cheektowaga, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Minerva H. Baker
Minerva H. Baker, 83, of 109 Cranston Drive, Moon Township, Allegheny County, died Tuesday morning at St. Mary's Hospital, Langhorne, Bucks County, where she was a patient since Saturday. Born in Saint Clair, she was a daughter of the late Isaac and Emma Evans Hulett. She wrote for the Call newspaper when she lived in Schuylkill Haven. She was a member of Berkley Chapter 52, Order of Eastern Star, Chesapeake, Va. Her husband, Richard M., died Jan. 21, 1958. Surviving are two daughters, Harriet Sunday, Yardley and Debbie Ricketts, Moon Township; a son, Larry, Lewistown; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., 37 St. John St., Schuylkill Haven. The Rev. Albert J.D. Walsh will officiate. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Saint Clair.

Peter McDade Sr.
Peter McDade Sr., 90, of Holy Family Manor, Bethlehem, formerly of Schuylkill Haven, died Monday evening at the manor. Born in Scotland, he was a son of the late Peter and Agnes Curley McDade. He was employed as a cost analyst for Worthington Corp., Harrison, N.J. He was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven, and attended the retreat of St. Josephs-in-the-Hills, Malvern. His first wife, Kristina Skelton, died in 1978, and his second wife, Helen Maurer Brown, died in 1997. Surviving are a daughter, Isabelle Ganzer, Somerset, N.J.; four sons, Peter Jr., New Mexico, Joseph, Phoenix, Ariz., Gerard, Clark, N.J., and Henry, El Paso, Texas; a stepdaughter, Bonnie Buchanan, Schuylkill Haven; a brother, James, Pearl River, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; a great-grandson. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3:30 p.m. Friday at St. Ambrose Church. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Stanley A. Mika
Stanley Andrew Mika, 77, of Dale City, Va., died Sunday at Potomac Hospital, Woodbridge, Va. Born in Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Joseph and Anna Mika. He moved to the Washington, D.C., area in 1963 after retiring from the Army with 25 years of service. He retired from the government in 1983 and moved to Ocean City, Md. He lived in Dale City since 1992. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Mika. Surviving are five daughters, Ellen Mika, Bethesda, Md., Marcella Mika, Englewood, Fla., Jane Mika, Dale City, Sally Thatcher, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Julie Birch, Centreville, Va; two sisters, Helen Hine, Pennsylvania, and Stasia McLaughlin, Mahanoy City; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild. Services will be held at noon Thursday from Mountcastle Funeral Home Inc., Dale City. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

Rosemary Sherer
Rosemary Sherer, 81, of Wantagh, N.Y., one of the first women to become prominent in plumbing design, died Saturday at Massapequa General Hospital, New York. She was born and raised in Schuylkill Haven and graduated from Schuylkill Haven High School, where she was head cheerleader and member of the track and basketball teams in 1934. She excelled in plumbing design in the 1950s. During her tenure as president of the American Society of Sanitary Engineers, New York Chapter, she was involved in the investigation of Legionnaire's Disease. During 40 years in the industry, she designed plumbing systems for Nassau County, Long Island, N.Y., public schools, Old Bethpage Restoration Village, Hempstead Fire House, Cedar Creek Park and Pitman Home for the Aged. In 1942, having taken a drafting course at Penn State Center, Pottsville, she went to work for Budd Manufacturing Co., Philadelphia, where she designed shipping crates used in transporting flame throwers during World War II. She received the Army-Navy E award for service to the government during the war. She later did drafting and design for Karsunky, Weller & Gooch, Washington D.C., consulting engineer for Idlewild Airport, now John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York. In 1952, she helped establish a New York office for the firm and worked on the Holland-American Pier project. She also designed plumbing and fire hydrant systems at Jones Beach State Park, N.Y. From 1959-76, she worked with Clyde M. Alston, Consulting Engineers, Hempstead. She developed water and sanitation systems for the fallout shelters and Fireman's Training Center, Melville Pool for the Handicapped and Department of Water Conservation Building in Hempstead. In 1976, she moved to Blauvelt Engineering Co., Hempstead, where she headed the plumbing department. She later became a consultant and retired in 1994. Mrs. Sherer took courses in drafting and plumbing design at Temple University, Philadelphia, and Plumbing Designers Educational Foundation. She was the first woman admitted to American Society of Sanitary Engineering, where she was its first female international president 1978-79. She participated in President Jimmy Carter's program on Rural Energy Issues at the White House in 1978. In 1982, the sanitary engineering society presented her with its Henry B. Davis award for outstanding contributions to the society and industry. She was president of Wantagh Council PTA and served on the church council at Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church. Surviving are her husband, Thomas; a daughter, Judith-Anne, Denton, Texas; a grandson, Devon Glazer, New York City. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., 25 E. Main St., Schuylkill Haven. The Rev. Dale Groff will officiate. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven.

Walter N. Stine
Services for Walter N. Stine, 99, formerly of RR1 Ashland, who died Monday afternoon at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Christ United Lutheran Church, Ashland. The Rev. Kenneth Gould will officiate. Interment will be in St. John's Kimmel's Cemetery, RR1 Ashland. Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, RR1 Klingerstown, is in charge of arrangements. Born in RR1 Ashland, Barry Township, March 15, 1898, he was a son of the late Charles H. and Martha Beury Stine. He was educated in Barry Township schools. He was a retired timberman and owned and operated his own blacksmith, welding and repair shop in the Ashland area from 1939 until retiring in 1983. He was of the Protestant faith. He was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Lewis and Charles Clayton Stine; six sisters, Clara Seitzinger, Anna Seitzinger, Julia Lesher, Katie Kramer, Elsie Baumer and Alma Johnson. Surviving are nieces and nephews.
