Anthony F. "Tony" Siro
Anthony F. "Tony" Siro, R.Ph., Ph.D., a pharmacist of Rockaway, N.J., died at Sept. 18 at home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Utica, N.Y., he was a son of the late Francesco and Ana Sumerano Siro. He lived in Rockaway since 1947.
He was a 1940 graduate of Proctor High School, Utica, N.Y., Albany College of Pharmacy with a bachelor's degree in pharmacy in 1944 and Sussex College of Technology, England, with a Ph.D. in pharmacy in 1976.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II. After his discharge, he practiced pharmacy for 42 years as the owner of Siro Pharmacy, Rockaway, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of St. Cecelia's Church, Rockaway, where he served as a senior altar server and a member of its Senior Citizens Club.
He was a member of the American Legion Rockaway Den Post 175, Rockaway, a third degree member of Knights of Columbus, Lafayette Council 514, Dover, and a fourth degree Knight of Walter Barrett Assembly, Boonton, N.J; and was a Faithful Navigator from 1990-91.
He was a member and past president of Morris-Sussex Pharmaceutical Association; member of New Jersey and American Pharmaceutical associations; National Association of Retail Pharmacists; and Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity.
In 1989, he received the William H. McNeil Memorial Award from the N.J. Pharmaceutical Association. He served on the Rockaway Borough Planning Board and Board of Health.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Patricia J., in 1953, and Catherine A., in 1989.
Surviving are his wife, of 54 years, the former Muriel Snook; three sons, Francis A., Newton, N.J., Thomas P., Orwigsburg, and Steven E., Dover, N.J.; a sister, Francesca Zarelli, Utica, N.Y.; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Caroline Yurkonis, 83, of 24 Bass Drive, Beury's Grove, Ashland, died Wednesday morning at home after a brief illness.
Born in Minersville, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Mikalauskas Smolskis. She attended Minersville schools.
She had been a cook at the former Necho Allen Hotel, Pottsville.
She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Minersville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex, in 1957; a son, James, in 1969; a brother, John Smolskis; a sister, Mary Blash.
Surviving are two daughters, Theresa Connor, with whom she resided, and Jean Bylina, Bristol; two brothers, Joseph Smolskis, Beury's Grove, and Leonard Smolskis, Levittown; three sisters, Adele Pothering, Seltzer, Beatrice Rumpf, Jonestown, and Anna Gutswa, Philadelphia; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services for Ernest R. Durose, 79, of 202 B St., Girardville, who died Tuesday at Penn State Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from Robert M. Edward J. O'Connor, 78, of 16 Thomaston Road, Heckscherville, died Wednesday morning at Seton Manor, Orwigsburg, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Heckscherville, he was a son of the late Michael J. and Margaret Canfield O'Connor, and a stepson of the late Marguerite Brophy O'Connor. He attended Cass Township schools and lived in Heckscherville all of his life.
He had been employed by Mudry Trucking Co., Kulpmont, and later as a corrections officer at the Schuylkill County Prison. He was also manager of the former Capperell Service Station, Pottsville.
He was a member of St. Kieran Roman Catholic Church, Heckscherville, where he served as a lector; member of Clover Fire Company, Heckscherville; Phoenix Fire Company, Pottsville; and Traveler's Protection Association.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Vincent J. and Francis A.; three sisters, Mary M. Quirk, Regina V. Gober and Ursula M. Fleming.
Surviving are his wife, the former Theresa Brennan; a son, the Rev. Edward J., pastor of Annunciation BVM Roman Catholic Church, Shenandoah, and St. Mary Magdalene Roman Catholic Church, Lost Creek; three sisters, Gertrude McCarthy, Mount Carmel, Margaret E. Holohan, Pottsville, and Sarah "Sally" Horan, Heckscherville; nieces and nephews.

Mary Louise Tuttle, 81, of 8763 Route 209, Williamstown, died Friday at home.
Born in Long Island, N.Y., June 23, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Beulah Clemons Kirkham.
She was formerly employed in her father's office, Kirkham Engineering, Farmingdale, N.Y., which was an early manufacturer of airplane engines and parts.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Lykens, past treasurer of The Friends of the Northern Dauphin Branch Library, Lykens, and served as a library volunteer for many years.
Her husband, Adelbert H., died Nov. 6, 1987.
Surviving are two sons, Douglas F., Newark, N.J., and Bruce K., Millersburg; five grandchildren.

Elva P. Seip, 90, of 201 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, died Thursday at Hometown Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Hometown.
Born in McKeansburg, Feb. 15, 1909, she was a daughter of the late Ammond and Lillie Sassaman Yost.
She was employed as a hair dresser. She assisted Griffiths Funeral Home, Tamaqua, for three generations of funeral directors. from the 1940s until the early 1990s, doing hair dressing.
She was a member of the Tamaqua Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Tamaqua, and Hair Dressers in Tamaqua.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry J.; a brother, Robert Yost; a grandchild, Drew Mook.

Born in Coaldale, Oct. 27, 1946, he was a son of the late Joseph and Anna Puishis Zaldaris. He was a 1964 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School and a graduate of Hiram G. Andrews Center, Johnstown, with a degree in drafting and designing.
He was employed as a design draftsman for Bechtel Corp., Three Mile Island, Middletown, until retiring.
He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Tamaqua, and its Holy Name Society; Middletown Anglers Hunters Club; East End Fire Company; Tamaqua Fire Police; social member of South Ward Fire Company, Keystone Fish and Hunt Club and American Legion Post, all of Tamaqua; Rod and Gun Club, Ontelaunee; fourth degree Knights of Columbus.

She was a retired cashier at Horn & Hardart, New York City, until retiring.

He was born in Philadelphia. He lived in Pottsville from 1979-89. He was a graduate of Lafayette College, Easton.
He was an employee of Merck Pharmaceutical Co., West Point, Pa. He had operated a seasonal guest home, the Belvedere, in Cape May, N.J.
He was a member of American Chemical Society.
A son, Fred, died earlier this year.

Born in Minersville, she was a daughter of the late John and Justine Horbal Shemella. She lived in Schuylkill County most of her life.
