Robert Paul Stephens
Robert Paul Stephens, 74, of
Parker RD 1, Perry Township, died
Saturday morning, March 27,
2004, in UPMC Northwest,
Franklin, following an illness.
Born Dec. 19, 1929, in Perry
Township, Clarion County, he was
the son of Frederick and Millie
Crick Stephens.
He was a 1948 graduate of
Rimersburg-Madison Union High
School in Rimersburg.
Mr. Stephens entered the United
States Marine Corps Oct. 16, 1950,
and was honorably discharged May
5, 1952.
He retired as chief lineman with
the Central Electric Cooperative at
Parker following a 42-year career
in that industry.
Mr. Stephens represented Perry
Township on the Allegheny-
Clarion Valley School Board for a
number of years.
He was a member of the Concord
Presbyterian Church in Perry
Township. He also held membership
in the Parker American Legion
Post and the Parker VFW Post.
Mr. Stephens was an avid
hunter and fisherman and was a life
member of the AlleghenyClarion
Sportsmen Club and the North
American Fishing Club.
He was married in the Concord
Presbyterian Church March 13,
1951, to Ella Mae Terwilliger, who
died Nov. 18, 2003.
Surviving are four daughters and
their husbands, Barbara E. and
Nick Cherico of Callensburg,
Roberta M. and Rodger Douglas of
Parker, Bonnie S. and Robert Lowe
of Mifflinsville and Brenda L. and
Alan Confer of Emlenton; one son,
Robert Adrian Stephens of
Mifflinsville: and nine grandchildren,
Kimberly Douglas, Steve
Douglas and fiancee, Jody Hale,
and her son, Riley; Ryan, Garrett,
Shawn and Rachel Lowe; Brock
and Blaine Confer; and Jacob
Stephens.
He also is survived by a brother,
Frederick Dean Stephens of
Parker; a sister, Alice Simpson of
Rimersburg; and a number of
nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and
wife, Mr. Stephens was preceded
in death by two brothers, Oscar and
Buzard Stephens; and two sisters,
Phyllis Young and an infant,
Roberta Stephens.
Friends were received in the H.
Jack Buzard Funeral Home,
Wayne Street, Parker.
Funeral services were held in
the funeral home, along with a full
military service in the funeral home
conducted by members of the
Parker VFW and American Legion.
Interment was in Concord Cemetery,
Perry Township, Clarion
County.
William R. Peterson
William R. Peterson, 87, of Foxburg,
died at 4:55 a.m. Wednesday,
March 31, 2004, in the emergency
room of UPMC Northwest,
Franklin.
Born Jan. 15, 1917, in Knox, he
was the son of Andrew C. and Susie
A. (Rogers) Peterson.
He was a 1934 graduate of Knox
High School.
Mr. Peterson was a U.S. Navy
veteran of World War II, serving
aboard the USS Glennon.
He was employed for 40 years
as a machinist at Glass Containers
Corp. in Parker.
Mr. Peterson served on the Foxburg
Borough Council and also on
the Municipal Water and Sewer
Authority in Foxburg.
He was a life member of Parker
City Volunteer Fire Co.
Mr. Peterson was a member of
the Memorial Church of Our Father,
Episcopal, in Foxburg.
He also was a member and past
commander of American Legion
Post No. 636 of Foxburg and the
IOOF Connequenessing Lodge
No. 278 of Butler.
Mr. Peterson was a collector of
bells and was a member of the
American Bell Association International
Inc., Pittsburgh Chapter.
Surviving are his wife, Isabelle I.
Stubble Peterson. They were married
for more than 60 years.
Also surviving are a son and his
wife, William C. and Carmen P.
Peterson of Gaithersburg, Md.; a
granddaughter, Erin Melissa
Peterson, a graduate student at the
University of New South Wales,
Sydney, Australia; a grandson,
Kyle Matthew Peterson, a student
at the Savannah College of Art and
Design, Savannah, GA; and a number
of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr.
Peterson was preceded in death by
two brothers, Donald Peterson and
Dana Peterson; and four sisters
Marion Graff, Ann Kiser, Margaret
Whitmore and Jean Peterson.

S Lowrey, vicar of the Memorial

officiating.

Darl H. Heller, 77, of 4929 Club

AM Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at
The Woods of Manatee Springs in
Bradenton, FL.
Born November 6, 1926 in New
Bethlehem, he was the son of the
late Winn B. and Bernice (Minich)
Heller.
Mr. Heller received all his schooling
in St.Petersburg and was a
1944 graduate of St. Petersburg
High School in St. Petersburg, PA
and a 1948 graduate of the Pittsburgh
Institute of Mortuary Science.
Mr. Heller was a veteran of the
U.S. Army Air Corps, serving during
World War II. He owned and
operated Heller’s Funeral Homes in
Lewistown and Burnham from
1950 to 1991 and was part owner of
the Koch Funeral Home in State
College.
Mr. Heller was a member of the
Lewistown Presbyterian Church
where he served as an elder.
He was a board member and
former chairman of the board of directors
at the Russell National Bank
in Lewistown; a member of the
Lewistown Country Club; St. Petersburg,
PA Masonic Lodge; Jaffa
Shrine of Altoona; University Club;
Lewistown Lions Club; and the
Lewistown Rotary Club. He was a
board member for the Mifflin
County Industrial Development
Corporation and had been active in
the Mifflin/Juniata County United
Way. He had also served as a board
member for the Mifflin County Industrial
Development Corporation.
On October 6, 1951 he was married
to Patricia A McCall, of Knox,
who survives. They celebrated 50
years of marriage in 2001.
Also surviving are two daughters,
Beth Crimmins and her husband
David of Hatfield, PA and Susan
Rusbasan and her husband Charles
of Surrey, England; a sister, Joann
Baudoux of Mechanicsburg; and
four grandchildren, Carol and
Philip Crimmins of Hatfield, PA
and Maxine and John Rusbasan of
Surrey, England. A sister in law and
brother in law, Earl (Woody) and
Carole Weaver of R.D. 1, Knox and
a sister in law, Mary Louise
Hartzfeld of Stone Mountain, GA
and several nieces and nephews.

Doris R. Heineman, 87, of

Healthcare - Shippenville.
Mrs. Heineman also had been a
resident of Highland Oaks in
Shippenville and Emlenton’s Laurel
Manor.
Born April 18, 1916, in Rochester,
Pa/, she was the daughter of
Walter Alexander and Marian Virginia
Creese Calhoun.
Mrs. Heineman was a member of
St. John Lutheran Church in Mars,
where she was a member of the
church quilting group.
She enjoyed playing bingo and
spending time with her family, especially
her grandchildren.
Mrs. Heineman was married to
Woodrow W. Heineman, who preceded
her in death in 1994.
Surviving are three children, Susan
Brierley of Forest Falls, Calif.,
Fred Heineman and his wife,
Elaine, of Lempster, N.H., and Karl
Heineman and his wife, Linda, of
Seneca; seven grandchildren, John
Heineman of Seattle, Wash., Cathy

Catherine E. Garris, 77, of Parker
Pike, Parker, died in the early
morning Friday, April 2, 2004, in
Clarion Hospital, following a
lengthy illness.
Born Jan. 5, 1927, in Barger Hollow,
Perry Township, Clarion County, she was the daughter of
Samuel Q. and Martha Zimmerly
Kriebel.
Mrs. Garris was a homemaker.
She attended Fundamental Baptist
Church in St Petersburg.
She enjoyed cooking, baking,
gardening and the company of her
family.
Mrs. Garris was married Aug.
20,1956 in Mercer to C.O. Garris,
who survives.
Also surviving are three sons,
Jackie Davis and his wife, Edith, of
Laurel, Mississippi; Mark W.
Garris of Parker and Matthew
Garris of Lincoln, Mich.; two
daughters, Mrs. Harry (Mary)
Pierce of Melvindale, Mich. and

Oil City; nine grandchildren and 18
great-grandchildren.

M. Grace Murray, 79, of Big
Bend Road, Emlenton, Scrubgrass
Township, died at 7:02 pm, Thursday,
April 15, 2004 at the Indiana
Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Murray was born on October
19, 1924, in Oil City. She was
the daughter of Robert Lee and
Laura Hale Rodgers.
Mrs. Murray was an 1942 graduate
of Cranberry High School. For
more than 50 years Mrs. Murray
was an active member of the Big
Bend United Methodist Church.
She had served more than 40 years
as a Sunday School Teacher, she
was the church treasurer for more
than 30 years, and she had been the
secretary treasurer of the cemetery
committee for the past 20 years.
One of Mrs. Murray’s favorite
quotes was, "We all want to leave
our footprints in the sands of time,
just make sure they are pointed in a
commendable direction."
Mrs. Murray was married August
31, 1950 to C. Dale Murray, who
survives. Also surviving are a son,
Dennis D. Murray and wife, Judy
of Weedville; two grandchildren
Lewis and Crystal Murray,
Weedville. In addition she is survived
by her brother, Norman
Rodgers and wife, Patricia of
Dempseytown; four sisters,
Geraldine Rodgers Tarr of Emlenton;
Helen Rodgers Russell and
husband William of Oil City;
Juanita Rodgers McDowell and
husband, Edward of Lititz; Patricia
Rodgers of Polk; a brother-in-law,
Donald Vogus Oil City; and several
nieces and nephews.

Murray was preceded in death by a
daughter Nancy Ann Murray; three
sisters Shirley Rodgers Vogus,
Doris Jean Rodgers and Judith Ann

Rodgers; and a half-sister, Ethel
Rodgers.

Wilma L. 'Billie' Mains, 79, of
Emlenton, died at 9:25 a.m. Thursday,
April 15, 2004, in the Caring
Place, Franklin, where she had
been a resident since 1998.
Born Jan. 14, 1925, in Emlenton,
she was the daughter of Willis J.
and Carrie E. Kline Sloan.
She was a 1942 graduate of
Emlenton High School and a 1946
graduate of Allegheny General
Hospital School of Nursing, Pittsburgh
where she received a degree
as a registered nurse.
Mrs. Mains was a member of the
Emlenton United Methodist
Church.
She loved golf and enjoyed playing
bridge and bingo.
Mrs. Mains was married in
Bradford on July 30, 1947 to Kenneth
P. Mains who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters,
PJ Grimm and husband Hugh, and
Mitzie Fitzgerald, all of Emlenton;
four grandsons, Matthew J. Slater
of Monongahelia, and Mark M.
Slater, Robert K. Sloan and Brian
E. Sloan and wife Kim, all of
Emlenton; and one great-grandson,
Dawson Sloan of Emlenton.
She is survived by two sisters,
Patricia MacBeth of Sigel and
Pamela O’Brien of Port Allegany;
and a number of nieces, nephews

Gary L. Eakin, 65, of Parker,
died at 7:45 p.m. Saturday, April
10, 2004, in Clarview Nursing &
Rehabilitation Center, Sligo, following
an extended illness,
Born Sept. 18, 1938, in Licking
Township, Clarion County, he was
the son of Charles D. and Grace A.
Harshaw Eakin.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserves
for eight years.
Mr. Eakin was employed as a
weigh master for the former C&K
Coal Co., retiring after 27 years of
service.
He was a social member of the
VFW Post No. 7073 of Parker and
the American Legion Post No. 636
of Foxburg.
Mr. Eakin was a Protestant.
Surviving are a sister, Charlotte
J. Eakin Hosey of Rimersburg; a
brother, Robert D. Eakin of Knox;
a sister-in-law, Sarah Eakin of
Callensburg; and a number of

Born Jan. 12, 1952, in Magalang
Pampanga, Phillipines, she was a
daughter of Florencia Nabong of
the Phillipines and the late Mariano
Nabong.
She was employed at Canon of
Virginia.
Surviving is her husband of 27
years, Glenn Scott, formerly of the
Emlenton area.
Survivors also include four children,
Theodore Scott, Susan Scott,
Michael Scott and Patricia Almond
and her husband Cameron; three
grandchildren, C.J., Alyssa and
Alana, all of Newport News; and
12 brothers and sisters, Orlanda,

after an extended illness at the Trinity
Living Center, Grove City, Pa.
Born in Irwin Twp., Venango
County on March 8, 1913 the son of
William Ambrose McFadden and
Alcy M. Riddle McFadden.
Married to Malissa E. Anderson
McFadden on Oct 1, 1938 and she
survives.
Mr. McFadden was self-employed
where he operated in the oil business
in the southern Venango County area
in the Drilling-Cleaning and Pumping
of oil wells. He had worked for
the Ramage Oil Co. in Bullion, Pa.
for over 35 years. He also worked for
the Surrena Oil Co. in Clinton Twp
for a number of years and also for
Meals Oil Company also in Clinton
Twp.
Mr. McFadden was a member of
the Union Presbyterian Church, 409
Emlenton St., Clintonville Pa of
which he was an elder of the church,
served as a trustee of the church, superintendent
of the church and a Sunday
school teacher. Mr. McFadden
had been the representative to Presbyterian
for a number of years as well.
Attended the Yard Public School
in Irwin Twp. and graduate from the
Clintonville High School,
Clintonville, Pa. in 1930.
Mr. McFadden was quite active in
the community having served on the
Victory Joint School board for 26
years and also after consolidation in
1964 with Franklin School Dist.
served on that board as well. A member
of the Scrubgrass Grange since
1936 of which he served as Master of
the Grange and also as Secretary and
Stewart. Mr. McFadden also was a
member of the Pennsylvania State
and National Grange. Local member
of the AARP-2562 Chapter of
Clintonville, Pa. and also a National
member of the AARP.
Received a 50-year certificate from
the State Republic Party for not missing
voting in Venango County.
Surviving are two sons: Donald L.
and wife Ann McFadden of Hornell
N.Y.; and William L. and wife Jane
McFadden of Kennerdell, Pa. Two
sisters: Mrs. Everett 'Ila M.' Warren
of Hickory, N.C., Mrs. Eugene
'Ruth' Dodd of Franklin, Pa. and

was the daughter of Merle and Nina
L. Fair Callander.
For many years, Mrs. Peirce
cleaned homes in the Perry Township-
Parker area. She then was
employed at the former Glass Containers
Corp. in Parker.
Mrs. Peirce was a graduate of
Butler Beauty Academy and operated
Doris Peirce’s Beauty Shop in
West Freedom until her retirement.
She had attended the local United
Methodist churches.
Mrs. Peirce enjoyed raising cats
and was a well-known pet supporter.
She also enjoyed painting
as a hobby.
Surviving are two daughters,
Mrs. John (Lynn Gilbert) Kinney
and Mrs.. Ronald (Sue Gilbert)
Gindlesperger, both of West Freedom;
one stepdaughter, Barbara
Peirce of Elizabethtown; one

Whitmore, who died in World War
II.
She then married Richard Dean
Gilbert and later LeRoy Peirce,
both of whom preceded her in
death.

illness.
Born Aug. 15, 1946, in Emlenton,
she was the daughter of
Mildred Jean Konkle Klingler of
Emlenton and the late Carlos William
Klingler.
Mrs. Sproull graduated from Allegheny-
Clarion Valley School in
1964 and National Legal Secretarial
School in Hagerstown, Md.,
in November 1965. She worked as
a legal secretary and legal aid for
several attorneys in Richmond, for
the federal government in the office
of the Assisistant Secretary of
Defense, for the U.S. Air Force in
Albuquerque, N.M., and for the
U.S. Army at Fort Lee, Va.
She was Protestant by faith and
had been affiliated with Old Zion
Evangelical Church near Emlenton.
Mrs. Sproull was married March
11, 1967, at Fort Campbell, Ky., to
James R. Sproull who survives.
She traveled extensively with her
husband to military assignments
throughout the U.S. and Europe.
In addition to her husband and
mother, Mrs. Sproull is survived by
a son, James R. Sproull, II of Richmond;
a sister, Cynthia Drozda of
Emlenton; two brothers, C. William
and Daniel Klingler, both of
Emlenton; her mother-in-law,
Betty Shakley and her husband,
Dean, of Parker; and a number of
nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the H. Jack
Buzard Funeral Home, Wayne
Street, Parker.
Funeral services were held at 10
a.m. Monday, April 19, 2004 at the
funeral home.
Interment was in Old Zion Cemetery
near Emlenton.
